1Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
1ซีโมนเปโตร ผู้รับใช้และอัครสาวกของพระเยซูคริสต์ เรียน ท่านทั้งหลายที่ได้รับความเชื่ออันประเสริฐอย่างเดียวกันกับเรา โดยความชอบธรรมของพระเจ้าและพระเยซูคริสต์พระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของเราทั้งหลาย
2Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
2ขอพระคุณและสันติสุขจงเพิ่มพูนแก่ท่านทั้งหลาย โดยรู้จักพระเจ้าและพระเยซูองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา
3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
3ด้วยเห็นแล้วว่าฤทธิ์เดชอันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของพระองค์ ได้ให้สิ่งสารพัดแก่เราที่จะให้มีชีวิตและทางที่เป็นอย่างพระเจ้า โดยรู้จักพระองค์ผู้ได้ทรงเรียกเราให้ถึงสง่าราศีและคุณธรรม
4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
4ด้วยเหตุเหล่านี้พระองค์จึงได้ทรงประทานพระสัญญาอันประเสริฐและใหญ่ยิ่งแก่เรา เพื่อว่าด้วยพระสัญญาเหล่านี้ ท่านทั้งหลายจะพ้นจากความเสื่อมโทรมที่มีอยู่ในโลกนี้เพราะตัณหา และจะได้รับส่วนในสภาพของพระองค์
5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
5เพราะเหตุนี้เองท่านจงอุตส่าห์จนสุดกำลังที่จะเอาคุณธรรมเพิ่มความเชื่อ เอาความรู้เพิ่มคุณธรรม
6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
6เอาความเหนี่ยวรั้งตนเพิ่มความรู้ เอาความอดทนเพิ่มความเหนี่ยวรั้งตน เอาการที่เป็นอย่างพระเจ้าเพิ่มความอดทน
7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
7เอาความรักฉันพี่น้องเพิ่มการที่เป็นอย่างพระเจ้า และเอาความรักคนทั่วไปเพิ่มความรักฉันพี่น้อง
8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
8ถ้ามีใจอย่างนั้นอยู่ในท่านทั้งหลายพร้อมบริบูรณ์แล้ว ก็จะกระทำให้ท่านไม่เกียจคร้านหรือไร้ผลในความรู้แห่งพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา
9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
9เพราะว่าผู้ใดที่ขาดสิ่งเหล่านี้ก็เป็นคนตาบอดตาสั้น และลืมไปว่าตนได้รับการชำระจากความผิดบาปเมื่อก่อนนั้นเสียแล้ว
10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
10เพราะฉะนั้น พี่น้องทั้งหลาย จงยิ่งอุตส่าห์กระทำตนให้เป็นไปตามที่พระเจ้าทรงเรียก และทรงเลือกท่านไว้แล้วนั้น เพราะว่าถ้าท่านประพฤติเช่นนั้น ท่านจะไม่สะดุดล้มเลย
11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
11ด้วยว่าอย่างนั้นท่านทั้งหลายจะมีสิทธิสมบูรณ์ที่จะเข้าในอาณาจักรนิรันดร์ของพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า และพระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของเรา
12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
12เหตุฉะนั้น ถึงแม้ว่าท่านจะรู้และตั้งมั่นคงอยู่ในความจริงที่ท่านรับแล้วนั้นก็ดี ข้าพเจ้าก็ไม่ละเลยที่จะเตือนสติท่านทั้งหลายเสมอให้ระลึกถึงสิ่งเหล่านี้
13Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
13ตราบใดที่ข้าพเจ้ายังอาศัยอยู่ในพลับพลานี้ ข้าพเจ้าเห็นสมควรที่จะเตือนสติท่านทั้งหลายให้ระลึกถึงข้อความเหล่านี้
14Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
14เพราะข้าพเจ้ารู้ว่า อีกไม่ช้าข้าพเจ้าก็จะต้องสละทิ้งพลับพลาของข้าพเจ้าไป ดังที่พระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเราได้ทรงสำแดงแก่ข้าพเจ้าแล้ว
15Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
15ยิ่งกว่านั้นข้าพเจ้าจะอุตส่าห์กระทำให้ท่านทั้งหลายระลึกถึงสิ่งเหล่านี้เสมอเมื่อข้าพเจ้าตายแล้ว
16For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
16เพราะว่าเมื่อเราได้สำแดงให้ท่านทั้งหลายทราบถึงฤทธิ์เดชของพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา และการที่พระองค์จะเสด็จมานั้น เราไม่ได้คล้อยตามนิยายที่เขาคิดแต่งไว้ด้วยความเฉลียวฉลาด แต่เราได้เห็นอานุภาพของพระองค์ด้วยตาของเราเอง
17For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
17เพราะว่าคราวเมื่อพระองค์ได้ทรงรับเกียรติและสง่าราศีจากพระเจ้าพระบิดา เมื่อพระสุรเสียงจากสง่าราศีอันยิ่งใหญ่ได้มาถึงพระองค์ ตรัสแก่พระองค์ว่า "ท่านผู้นี้เป็นบุตรที่รักของเรา เราชอบใจท่านผู้นี้มาก"
18And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
18และเราก็ได้ยินพระสุรเสียงนี้มาจากสวรรค์ ในครั้งที่เราได้อยู่กับพระองค์ที่ภูเขาอันบริสุทธิ์นั้น
19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
19และเรามีคำพยากรณ์ที่แน่นอนยิ่งกว่านั้นอีก จะเป็นการดีถ้าท่านทั้งหลายจะถือตามคำนั้น เสมือนแสงประทีปที่ส่องสว่างในที่มืด จนกว่าแสงอรุณจะขึ้น และดาวประจำรุ่งจะผุดขึ้นในใจของท่านทั้งหลาย
20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
20จงรู้ข้อนี้ก่อน คือว่าคำพยากรณ์ทุกคำที่จารึกไว้ในพระคัมภีร์แล้ว ไม่มีใครตีความได้ตามลำพังใจของตนเอง
21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
21ด้วยว่าคำพยากรณ์ในอดีตนั้นไม่ได้มาจากความประสงค์ของมนุษย์ แต่พวกผู้บริสุทธิ์ของพระเจ้าได้กล่าวคำตามที่พระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ได้ทรงดลใจเขา
