1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
1บัดนี้ พวกที่รัก นี่เป็นจดหมายฉบับที่สองที่ข้าพเจ้าได้เขียนถึงท่านทั้งหลาย และในจดหมายทั้งสองฉบับนั้น ข้าพเจ้าได้สะกิดใจอันบริสุทธิ์ของท่านให้ระลึก
2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
2เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะได้ใส่ใจถ้อยคำทั้งหลายที่พวกศาสดาพยากรณ์อันบริสุทธิ์ได้กล่าวไว้เมื่อก่อน และคำบัญชาของเราทั้งหลายพวกอัครสาวกขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าและพระผู้ช่วยให้รอด
3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
3จงรู้ข้อนี้ก่อน คือในวันสุดท้ายคนที่ชอบเยาะเย้ยจะเกิดขึ้นและประพฤติตามใจปรารถนาชั่วของตน
4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
4และจะถามว่า "คำที่ทรงสัญญาไว้ว่าพระองค์จะเสด็จมานั้นอยู่ที่ไหน เพราะว่าตั้งแต่บรรพบุรุษหลับล่วงไปแล้ว สิ่งทั้งปวงก็เป็นอยู่เหมือนที่ได้เป็นอยู่ตั้งแต่เดิมทรงสร้างโลก"
5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
5เพราะว่าเขาแกล้งลืมข้อนี้เสีย คือโดยคำตรัสของพระเจ้า ฟ้าสวรรค์ได้อุบัติขึ้นตั้งแต่โบราณ และแผ่นดินโลกจึงได้บังเกิดขึ้นแยกออกจากน้ำและท่ามกลางน้ำ
6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
6โดยเหตุเหล่านั้น พระองค์จึงได้ทรงบันดาลให้น้ำมาท่วมทำลายโลกที่มีอยู่ในเวลานั้น
7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
7แต่ว่าท้องฟ้าอากาศและแผ่นดินโลกที่อยู่เดี๋ยวนี้ พระองค์ทรงเก็บงำไว้โดยคำตรัสนั้นสำหรับให้ไฟเผา คือเก็บไว้จนถึงวันทรงพิพากษาและวันพินาศแห่งบรรดาคนอธรรม
8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
8แต่พวกที่รัก อย่าลืมข้อนี้เสีย คือวันเดียวขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเป็นเหมือนกับพันปี และพันปีก็เป็นเหมือนกับวันเดียว
9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
9องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ได้ทรงเฉื่อยช้าในเรื่องพระสัญญาของพระองค์ ตามที่บางคนคิดนั้น แต่พระองค์ได้ทรงอดกลั้นพระทัยไว้ เพราะเห็นแก่เราทั้งหลายมาช้านาน ไม่ทรงประสงค์ที่จะให้ผู้หนึ่งผู้ใดพินาศเลย แต่ทรงปรารถนาที่จะให้คนทั้งปวงกลับใจเสียใหม่
10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
10แต่ว่าวันขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้านั้นจะมาถึงเหมือนอย่างขโมยแอบย่องมาในเวลากลางคืน และในวันนั้นท้องฟ้าจะล่วงเสียไปด้วยเสียงที่ดังกึกก้อง และโลกธาตุจะสลายไปด้วยไฟอันร้อนยิ่ง และแผ่นดินโลกกับการงานทั้งปวงที่มีอยู่ในนั้นจะต้องไหม้เสียสิ้นด้วย
11Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
11เมื่อเห็นแล้วว่าสิ่งทั้งปวงจะต้องสลายไปหมดสิ้นเช่นนี้ ท่านทั้งหลายควรจะเป็นคนเช่นใดในชีวิตที่บริสุทธิ์และที่เป็นอย่างพระเจ้า
12Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
12คอยท่าและกระหายที่จะให้วันของพระเจ้ามาถึง เมื่อไฟจะติดท้องฟ้าอากาศให้ละลายไป และโลกธาตุจะละลายไปด้วยไฟอันร้อนยิ่ง
13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
13แต่ว่าตามพระสัญญาของพระองค์นั้น เราจึงคอยท้องฟ้าอากาศใหม่และแผ่นดินโลกใหม่ ที่ซึ่งความชอบธรรมจะดำรงอยู่
14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
14เหตุฉะนั้นพวกที่รัก เมื่อท่านทั้งหลายยังคอยสิ่งเหล่านี้อยู่ ท่านก็จงอุตส่าห์ให้พระองค์ทรงพบท่านทั้งหลายอยู่เป็นสุข ปราศจากมลทินและข้อตำหนิ
15And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
15และจงถือว่า การที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเราทรงอดกลั้นพระทัยไว้นานนั้นเป็นการช่วยให้รอด ดังที่เปาโลน้องที่รักของเราได้เขียนจดหมายถึงท่านทั้งหลายด้วย ตามสติปัญญาซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงโปรดประทานแก่ท่านนั้น
16As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
16เหมือนในจดหมายของท่านทุกฉบับ ท่านได้กล่าวถึงเหตุการณ์เหล่านั้น และในจดหมายนั้นมีบางข้อที่เข้าใจยาก ซึ่งคนทั้งหลายที่ไม่ได้เรียนรู้และไม่แน่นอนมั่นคงนั้นได้เปลี่ยนแปลงเสีย เหมือนเขาได้เปลี่ยนแปลงข้ออื่นๆในพระคัมภีร์ จึงเป็นเหตุกระทำให้ตัวพินาศ
17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
17เพราะเหตุนั้น พวกที่รัก เมื่อท่านทั้งหลายรู้เรื่องนี้ก่อนแล้ว ท่านก็จงระวังให้ดี เกรงว่าท่านอาจจะหลงไปกระทำผิดตามการผิดของคนชั่ว และท่านทั้งหลายจะสูญเสียความหนักแน่นมั่นคงของท่าน
18But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
18แต่ขอท่านทั้งหลายจงเจริญขึ้นในพระคุณ และในความรู้เกี่ยวกับพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าและพระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของเรา สง่าราศีจงมีแด่พระองค์ทั้งในปัจจุบันนี้และตลอดไปเป็นนิตย์ เอเมน
