1Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.
1Na'uli': "Tuama-tuama, ompi' hawe'ea! Pe'epei-ka-kuwo, ku'uli' -kokoi noa' -ku."
2(And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)
2Kara'epe-na ntodea Paulus mololita hi rala basa-ra moto, hangkedi' pengkalino-ra. Napokaliliu Paulus lolita-na, na'uli':
3I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
3"Aku' tohe'i, to Yahudi-a. Ngata kaputua-ku, Tarsus hi tana' Kilikia, aga ngkai kakedia' -ku mo'oha' -a hi rehe'i hi Yerusalem. Pai' mosikola lompe' wo'o-a, guru-ku Gamaliel, hadua guru to rabila' lia. Natudui' -a hawe'ea atura to nawai' Musa hi ntu'a-ta owi. Tida mpu'u-a mpotuku' Alata'ala, hewa koi' toi-e ompi'.
4And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
4Jadi', toe pai' kuhuduwukui wengi mpo'ewa tauna to mpotuku' Tudui' Pue' Yesus. Ria-ra to kupatehi. Wori' -ra to kuhoko' pai' to kutarungku', lompe' tomane lompe' tobine.
5As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.
5Imam Bohe moto pai' hawe'ea pangkeni agama ma'ala mposabii' ka'uma-ku boa'. Apa' hira' toe-mi wengi to mpowai' -a sura kuasa hilou hi ompi' -ompi' -ta to Yahudi hi ngata Damsyik. Patuju-ku hilou hi Damsyik toe, mpohoko' topetuku' Yesus to hi ria, kuhoo' pai' kukeni nculii' tumai bona rahuku'.
6And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.
6"Hi rala pomako' -ku hilou hi Damsyik toe, ba neo' tebua' -mi eo, neo' rata-makai hi Damsyik. Nto'u toe, muu-mule' mehini ncorobaa baja to mekiroi' ngkai langi', mehini hi ntololikia-ku.
7And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
7Kamodungka-kumi hi tana', pai' -a mpo'epe lolita to mpo'uli': `Saulus! Saulus! Napa pai' nubalinai' -a?'
8And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.
8"Kupekune' -i: `Ha hema-ko Pue'?' "Na'uli' -ka: `Aku' -mile Yesus to Nazaret, to nubalinai' -e.'
9And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.
9Ane doo-doo-kuera, rahilo moto wo'o-rawo to mehini toe, aga uma ra'incai napa to na'uli' -ka.
10And I said, What shall I do, LORD? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.
10"Ngkai ree, ku'uli': `Ane wae, napa to kana kubabehi Pue'?' "Na'uli' Pue': `Memata-moko pai' kaliliu mesua' hi rala ngata. Hi ria-damo mpai' ra'uli' -koko hawe'ea to nahubui-koko Alata'ala bona nubabehi.'
11And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.
11Ngkai ree, apa' wero-ama, napakawero to mehini toe-e we'i, ratete' doo-kua-damo rata hi ngata Damsyik.
12And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,
12"Hi Damsyik toe, ria hadua tomane, Ananias hanga' -na. Ananias toei, tau monoa' -i, moroho petuku' -na hi Atura Musa. Hawe'ea to Yahudi to mo'oha' hi Damsyik mpobila' -i.
13Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
13Tumai-imi Ananias toei mpokinomo-a, mokore-i hi ncori-ku, pai' na'uli' -ka: `Ompi' -ku Saulus, pehilo nculii' -moko!' Hampinisi mata pehilo mpu'u-ama, pai' kuhilo-imi.
14And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.
14Ngkai ree, na'uli' wo'o-mi mpo'uli' -ka: `Alata'ala to rapue' ntu'a-ta owi mpelihi-moko, bona nu'inca napa konoa-na. Napelihi-ko bona nuhilo-i Yesus, Batua-na Alata'ala to Monoa', pai' bona nu'epe libu' -na hante tilinga-nu moto.
15For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
15Iko-mi mpai' to jadi' sabi' -na to mpokarebai hi hawe'ea tauna napa to nuhilo pai' to nu'epe-mi tetu-e.
16And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
16Wae-pi, napa wo'o-pi to nupopea! Mokore-moko pai' raniu' -moko jadi' topetuku' Yesus. Mekakae-moko hi Pue' Yesus bona na'ampungi jeko' -nu.'
17And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;
17"Jadi', ngkai ree, nculii' -ama tumai hi Yerusalem, pai' bula-ku mosampaya hi Tomi Alata'ala, ria pangila-ku.
18And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.
18Kuhilo Pue' Yesus mpololitai-a, na'uli' -ka: `Pesahui malai ngkai Yerusalem, apa' uma-ra mpai' mpotarima posabi' -nu mposabi' -ka.'
19And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
19"Kutompoi' hewa toi: `Pue', ratarima moto mpai'. Apa' ra'inca moto-hana kehi-ku ri'ulu: beiwa-a mesua' hi rala tomi posampayaa, kuhoko' pai' kuweba' hawe'ea tauna to mepangala' hi Iko Pue'.
20And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.
20Wae wo'o, hi karapatehi-na sabi' -nu Stefanus, retu wo'o-a-kuwo mpokagoe' karapatehi-na, pai' aku' -mi to mpodongo baju-ra to mpopatehi-i.'
21And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.
21"Oti toe, na'uli' tena-ka Pue': `Bate hilou-moko, apa' kuhubui-ko mpai' hilou hi ngata to molaa, hi tauna to bela-ra to Yahudi.'"
22And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.
22Rodo oa' -ramo ntodea mpo'epe Paulus mololita. Tapi' kana'uli' -na we'i kahilou-na hi tauna to bela-ra to Yahudi, pejeu' -rami rahuduwukui, ra'uli': "Patehi lau-imi pe'! Uma ntoto-ipi natao tuwu'!"
23And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,
23Nto'u pejeu' -ra tohe'e, ratene' -mi baju-ra, pai' -ra mpohawu' awu hi lolo raoa, apa' nakeni kagigi nono-ra.
24The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.
24Toe pai' kapala' tantara mpohubui tantara-na ngkeni Paulus kaliliu hilou hi tomi tantara, bona hi ria-damo mpai' raweba' pai' rapompekunei' bona ra'inca napa pai' moroe rahi-ra to Yahudi mpolibui' -i.
25And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?
25Rata hi ria, rataka' -imi Paulus hi tuha' bona raweba'. Toe pai' na'uli' mpo'uli' -ki tadulako to hi ncori-na: "Ha ma'ala moto-hawo raweba' hadua warga negara Roma, ane ko'ia rapohurai kara-kara-nae?"
26When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman.
26Mpo'epe toe we'i, kahilou-nami tadulako toei hi kapala' -na pai' na'uli': "Napa to tababehi, Kapala'? Apa' to Roma-i-hana."
27Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea.
27Oti toe, kapala' tantara hilou hi Paulus pai' mpekune' -i: "Uli' -ka, ba makono mpu'u-ko warga negara Poparenta Roma?" Na'uli' Paulus: "Makono mpu'u-di."
28And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.
28Na'uli' kapala': "Wori' -hana pobayari-ku bona mesua' -a warga negara Roma." Na'uli' Paulus: "Ane aku', ngkai kaputu-kumi-kuna warga negara Roma-a."
29Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.
29Ngkai ree, ngkala'ura-ramo tantara to doko' mpoparesa' Paulus, pai' me'eka' wo'o-imi-hawo kapala' tantara toei. Apa' napehubui-hana we'i mpohoo' Paulus, ntaa' warga negara Roma-idi.
30On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.
30Kapala' tantara toei we'i doko' mpo'inca ba napa mpu'u sala' Paulus pai' -i rapakilu to Yahudi-e. Toe pai' kamepulo-na, nakio' hawe'ea imam pangkeni pai' pangkeni agama Yahudi ntani' -na bona moromu. Oti toe, nabahaka-imi Paulus ngkai tarungku' pai' nakeni-i hilou mponyanyo-ra.
