¹At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.

²And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.

²Giê-rô-bô-am nói với vợ mình rằng: Ta xin ngươi hãy chổi dậy, giả dạng khác đi, cho người ta không biết người là vợ ta. Ngươi hãy đi đến Si-lô, tại đó có tiên tri A-hi-gia, là đấng đã nói trước về ta rằng ta sẽ làm vua của dân sự này.

³And take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he shall tell thee what shall become of the child.

³Ngươi phải lấy đem theo mười ổ bánh, những bánh ngọt, và một bình mật ong, rồi hãy đi đến người; người sẽ nói cho ngươi đều phải xảy đến cho con trẻ.

⁴And Jeroboam's wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.

⁴Vợ Giê-rô-bô-am làm theo vậy, đứng dậy đi đến Si-lô, và tới nhà A-hi-gia. Vả, A-hi-gia không thấy được, bởi vì tuổi già làm cho mắt người mù lòa.

⁵And the LORD said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.

⁵Nhưng Ðức Giê-hô-va phán với người rằng: Kìa, vợ của Giê-rô-bô-am đến cầu hỏi ngươi về con trai nó đương đau. Ngươi sẽ đáp lời cùng nó thể này, thể này. Khi đến, nàng sẽ giả dạng làm một người khác.

⁶And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

⁶Khi nàng bước qua ngạch cửa cái, A-hi-gia nghe tiếng bước người, thì nói rằng: Hỡi vợ vua Giê-rô-bô-am, hãy vào; cớ sao ngươi giả làm người khác? Ta chịu sai báo cho ngươi một tin dữ: Hãy đi tâu với Giê-rô-bô-am:

⁷Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel,

⁷Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên phán như vầy: Ta đã cất ngươi lên từ giữa dân sự, lập ngươi làm vua trên dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ta.

⁸And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;

⁸Ta đã đoạt lấy nước khỏi nhà Ða-vít, kẻ tôi tớ ta, là người gìn giữ các điều răn ta, hết lòng theo ta, chỉ làm điều thiện tại trước mặt ta.

⁹But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:

⁹Ngươi đã làm điều ác hơn các kẻ tiên bối ngươi, đi lập cho mình những thần khác và hình tượng đúc đặng chọc giận ta, và đã chối bỏ ta.

¹⁰Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.

¹⁰Bởi cớ đó, ta sẽ giáng tai họa trên nhà Giê-rô-bô-am, các nam đinh của nó, bất luận kẻ nô lệ hay là người tự do, ta sẽ diệt hết khỏi trong Y-sơ-ra-ên, và quét sạch nhà nó, như người ta quét phân, cho đến chẳng còn sót chi hết.

¹¹Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat: for the LORD hath spoken it.

¹¹Phàm người của nhà Giê-rô-bô-am chết tại trong thành, đều sẽ bị chó ăn nuốt, còn người nào chết ngoài đồng, thì sẽ bị chim trời cắn rỉa ăn đi; vì Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán vậy.

¹²Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.

¹²Thế thì, hãy đứng dậy trở về nhà ngươi; vừa khi ngươi đặt chơn vào thành, thì con ngươi sẽ chết.

¹³And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him: for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the LORD God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.

¹³Cả Y-sơ-ra-ên sẽ than khóc và chôn nó; trong nhà Giê-rô-bô-am chỉ một mình nó sẽ được chôn nơi mồ mả, vì trong gia quyến Giê-rô-bô-am chỉ thấy nơi nó có chút lòng tốt đối cùng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

¹⁴Moreover the LORD shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: but what? even now.

¹⁴Trong ngày đó, Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ dấy lên một vua trên Y-sơ-ra-ên, người diệt hết nhà Giê-rô-bô-am. Mà sao? Việc đã xảy đến rồi.

¹⁵For the LORD shall smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking the LORD to anger.

¹⁵Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ hành hại Y-sơ-ra-ên, như một cây sậy bị nước đưa đi, truất Y-sơ-ra-ên khỏi xứ tốt đẹp này mà Ngài đã ban cho tổ phụ họ, và làm tản lạc họ phía bên kia sông cái, bởi vì họ đã lấy hình tượng chọc giận Ðức Giê-hô-va.

¹⁶And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.

¹⁶Vì cớ tội Giê-rô-bô-am đã phạm, tức tội khiến cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên can phạm nên Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ phó Y-sơ-ra-ên vào tay thù nghịch.

¹⁷And Jeroboam's wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: and when she came to the threshold of the door, the child died;

¹⁷Vợ của Giê-rô-bô-am đứng dậy đi và đến Tiệt-sa. Nàng vừa đặt chơn trên ngạch cửa nhà, thì đứa trẻ đã chết.

¹⁸And they buried him; and all Israel mourned for him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by the hand of his servant Ahijah the prophet.

¹⁸Người ta chôn nó, và cả Y-sơ-ra-ên đều than khóc nó, theo như lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va đã cậy miệng tôi tớ Ngài, là A-hi-gia, đấng tiên tri, mà phán.

¹⁹And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

¹⁹Mọi công việc khác của Giê-rô-bô-am làm, tức là sự tranh chiến và cuộc trị vì của người, đều đã chép trong sách sử ký của các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.

²⁰And the days which Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.

²⁰Giê-rô-bô-am trị vì hai mươi hai năm; đoạn, người an giấc cùng các tổ phụ mình, và Na-đáp, con trai người, kế vị người. Ðời Rô-bô-am trị vì

²¹And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess.

²¹Rô-bô-am, con trai của Sa-lô-môn, cai trị Giu-đa. Khi lên ngôi, người đã được bốn mươi mốt tuổi; người trị vì mười bảy năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, là thành Ðức Giê-hô-va đã chọn trong các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, đặng đặt danh Ngài ngự tại đó. Mẹ người tên là Na-a-ma, người Am-môn.

²²And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.

²²Dân Giu-đa làm điều ác tại trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va; vì cớ tội phạm, chúng nó chọc cho Ðức Giê-hô-va phân bì hơn là các tổ phụ mình đã làm.

²³For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

²³Vì những người Giu-đa cũng xây cất cho mình những nơi cao, trụ thờ và tượng Át-tạt-tê tại trên các gò nổng cao và dưới những cây rậm.

²⁴And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

²⁴Cũng có những bợm vĩ gian ở trong xứ. Chúng bắt chước làm theo những sự gớm ghiếc của các dân tộc mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã đuổi khỏi trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.

²⁵And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem:

²⁵Năm thứ năm đời Rô-bô-am trị vì, Si-sắc, vua Ê-díp-tô, đi lên đánh Giê-ru-sa-lem,

²⁶And he took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

²⁶lấy các châu báu của đền Ðức Giê-hô-va và của cung vua; người cũng đoạt lấy hết thảy những khiên bằng vàng mà Sa-lô-môn đã làm.

²⁷And king Rehoboam made in their stead brazen shields, and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king's house.

²⁷Vua Rô-bô-am bèn truyền làm những khiên bằng đồng đặng thế cho các khiên ấy, giao cho các quan làm đầu thị vệ canh cửa cung vua.

²⁸And it was so, when the king went into the house of the LORD, that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.

²⁸Hễ vua đi vào đền Ðức Giê-hô-va, có những thị vệ cầm các khiên ấy; đoạn, họ đem cất nó lại trong phòng thị vệ.

²⁹Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

²⁹Các công việc khác của Rô-bô-am, và mọi việc người đã làm, đều chép trong sách sử ký của các vua Giu-đa.

³⁰And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days.

³⁰Vả, Rô-bô-am và Giê-rô-bô-am đánh giặc nhau luôn luôn.

³¹And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his stead.

³¹Rô-bô-am an giấc với tổ phụ người, và được chôn với họ tại trong thành Ða-vít. Mẹ người tên là Na-a-ma, người Am-môn, A-bi-giam, con trai người, kế vị người.
