¹And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

¹Giô-sa-phát, con trai A-sa, cai trị thế cho người; người làm cho nước mình ra mạnh để nghịch cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên,

²And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

²đặt những cơ binh nơi các thành bền vững của Giu-đa, lập đồn trong xứ Giu-đa và trong các thành Ép-ra-im, mà A-sa, cha người, đã chiếm lấy.

³And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;

³Ðức Giê-hô-va ở cùng Giô-sa-phát, vì người đi theo đường lối đầu tiên của Ða-vít, tổ phụ mình, không tìm cầu thần Ba-anh,

⁴But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

⁴nhưng tìm cầu Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ mình, giữ theo các điều răn của Ngài, chớ chẳng làm như Y-sơ-ra-ên.

⁵Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honor in abundance.

⁵Vì vậy Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến nước vững chắc trong tay người; cả Giu-đa dâng lễ vật cho Giô-sa-phát, người được của cải nhiều và sự vinh hiển lớn.

⁶And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.

⁶Người vững lòng theo các đường lối của Ðức Giê-hô-va; lại phá dỡ các nơi cao và những thần tượng A-sê-ra khỏi Giu-đa.

⁷Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Benhail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.

⁷Năm thứ ba đời Giô-sa-phát trị vì, người sai các tôi tớ mình, là Bên-Hai, Ô-ba-đia, Xa-cha-ri, Na-tha-na-ên, và Mi-ca-gia đi dạy dỗ trong các thành xứ Giu-đa;

⁸And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tobadonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.

⁸có mấy người Lê-vi đi với họ, là Sê-ma-gia, Nê-tha-nia, Xê-ba-đia, A-sa-ên, Sê-mi-ra-mốt, Giô-na-than, A-đô-ni-gia, Tô-bi-gia, và Tô-ba-đô-ni-gia; lại có Ê-li-sa-ma và Giô-ram, hai thầy tế lễ cũng đi nữa;

⁹And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

⁹chúng có đem theo mình sách luật pháp của Ðức Giê-hô-va, đi vòng các thành xứ Giu-đa mà dạy dỗ dân sự.

¹⁰And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

¹⁰Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến các nước ở bốn phía của Giu-đa kinh hãi, chẳng dám chinh chiến với Giô-sa-phát.

¹¹Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.

¹¹Có dân Phi-li-tin đem dâng cho Giô-sa-phát những lễ vật và bạc cống thuế; người A rạp cũng dẫn đến cho người những bầy súc vật: bảy ngàn bảy trăm con chiên đực, và bảy ngàn bảy trăm con dê đực.

¹²And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.

¹²Giô-sa-phát càng ngày càng cường đại, cho đến tột bực. Người xây cất trong xứ Giu-đa những đền đài và thành kho tàng.

¹³And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valor, were in Jerusalem.

¹³Người có nhiều công việc trong các thành Giu-đa, và tại Giê-ru-sa-lem có những lính chiến mạnh dạn.

¹⁴And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valor three hundred thousand.

¹⁴Ðây là sổ kể các người ấy tùy theo nhà tổ phụ họ; về Giu-đa, có những quan tướng ngàn người, là Át-na làm đầu, người lãnh ba mươi vạn người mạnh dạn;

¹⁵And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.

¹⁵kế người có Giô-ha-nan làm đầu, người lãnh hai mươi tám vạn người mạnh dạn;

¹⁶And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.

¹⁶sau người này có A-ma-sia, con trai của Xiếc-ri, là người vui lòng dâng mình cho Ðức Giê-hô-va, người lãnh hai mươi vạn người mạnh dạn.

¹⁷And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valor, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.

¹⁷Về Bên-gia-min có Ê-li-a-đa, là người mạnh dạn, người lãnh hai mươi vạn quân cầm cung và khiên;

¹⁸And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.

¹⁸kế người có Giê-hô-xa-bát, người lãnh mười tám vạn binh đều sắm sửa ra trận.

¹⁹These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.

¹⁹Ðó là những người giúp việc vua, trừ ra những người mà vua đặt trong các thành bền vững khắp xứ Giu-đa.
