¹Then said Solomon, The LORD hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

¹Bấy giờ, Sa-lô-môn nói rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán rằng Ngài sẽ ngự trong nơi tối thẳm.

²But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever.

²Nhưng tôi đã cất một cái đền cho Chúa trú ngụ, một nơi cho Chúa ở đời đời.

³And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.

³Ðoạn vua xây mặt lại chúc phước cho cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên đều đứng.

⁴And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,

⁴Người nói: Ðáng ngợi khen Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, là Ðấng đã phán hứa với Ða-vít, cha tôi, và nay lấy tay Ngài mà làm cho thành lời hứa ấy; Ngài rằng:

⁵Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:

⁵Từ ngày ta đem dân ta ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô, ta chưa chọn một thành nào trong các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên đặng cất một cái đền, để đặt danh ta tại đó, và ta cũng chẳng chọn người nào làm vua chúa trên dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ta;

⁶But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

⁶nhưng ta đã chọn Giê-ru-sa-lem, để đặt danh ta tại đó, và chọn Ða-vít đặng cai trị dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ta.

⁷Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

⁷Vả, Ða-vít, cha tôi, đã rắp lòng xây đền cho danh Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

⁸But the LORD said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:

⁸Nhưng Ðức Giê-hô-va phán với Ða-vít, cha tôi, rằng: Ngươi có rắp lòng cất một cái đền cho danh ta, ấy thật phải lắm;

⁹Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

⁹dầu vậy, ngươi sẽ chẳng cất đền ấy; song con trai ngươi sanh ra sẽ cất cái đền cho danh ta.

¹⁰The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

¹⁰Ðức Giê-hô-va đã làm ứng nghiệm lời Ngài phán, khiến tôi kế cho Ða-vít, cha tôi, lên ngôi trị vì Y-sơ-ra-ên, y như Ðức Giê-hô-va đã hứa: nên tôi có cất đền cho danh Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên,

¹¹And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.

¹¹và tại đền ấy đã đặt cái hòm đựng giao ước của Ðức Giê-hô-va mà Ngài lập với dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.

¹²And he stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:

¹²Sa-lô-môn đương đứng trước bàn thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va, đối mặt cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên, giơ tay mình ra

¹³For Solomon had made a brazen scaffold of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.

¹³(vì người đã đóng một cái sạp bằng đồng, bề dài năm thước, bề ngang năm thước, bề cao ba thước, để tại giữa hành lang; người đứng tại đó, quì gối xuống trước mặt cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên, giơ tay lên trên trời),

¹⁴And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and showest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

¹⁴mà rằng: Lạy Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên! trên trời và dưới đất, chẳng có thần nào giống như Chúa. Chúa gìn giữ lời giao ước và lòng nhơn từ đối với kẻ tôi tớ Chúa, là kẻ hết lòng đi trước mặt Chúa;

¹⁵Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.

¹⁵đối với tôi tớ Chúa là Ða-vít cha tôi, Chúa có gìn giữ lời Chúa đã hứa với người: Thật hễ điều gì miệng Chúa phán, thì tay Chúa đã làm cho hoàn thành, y như đã có ngày nay.

¹⁶Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.

¹⁶Vậy, Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên ôi! Chúa đã hứa cùng tôi tớ Chúa là Ða-vít, cha tôi, rằng: Ví bằng con cháu ngươi cẩn thận đường lối mình, giữ theo các luật pháp ta, y như ngươi đã làm, thì trước mặt ta ngươi sẽ chẳng hề thiếu người ngồi trên ngôi Y-sơ-ra-ên; nay cầu xin Chúa hãy giữ gìn lời hứa ấy.

¹⁷Now then, O LORD God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou hast spoken unto thy servant David.

¹⁷Hỡi Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên! nguyện lời Chúa đã hứa cùng Ða-vít, tôi tớ Chúa, được ứng nghiệm.

¹⁸But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!

¹⁸Mà chi! Có thật rằng Ðức Chúa Trời ngự chung với loài người ở trên đất ư? Kìa trời, cho đến đỗi trời của các từng trời còn chẳng có thế chứa Chúa được thay, phương chi cái đền nầy tôi đã cất!

¹⁹Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:

¹⁹Dầu vậy, hỡi Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời tôi ôi! xin hãy đoái thương lời cầu nguyện và sự nài xin của tôi tớ Chúa, nghe tiếng kêu cầu và khẩn nguyện của tôi tớ Chúa cầu trước mặt Chúa.

²⁰That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.

²⁰Nguyện mắt Chúa ngày và đêm đoái xem nhà này, vì về nhà này Chúa đã phán rằng: sẽ đặt danh Chúa tại đó. Khi tôi tớ Chúa hướng nơi này mà cầu nguyện, xin Chúa dủ nghe.

²¹Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest, forgive.

²¹Phàm điều gì tôi tớ Chúa và dân Y-sơ-ra-ên sẽ cầu khẩn trong khi hướng về nơi này, xin Chúa hãy dủ nghe, nhậm lời, và tha thứ cho.

²²If a man sin against his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;

²²Nếu ai phạm tội cùng kẻ lân cận mình, và người ta bắt nó phải thề, nếu nó đến thề ở trước bàn thờ của Chúa tại trong đền này,

²³Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by recompensing his way upon his own head; and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.

²³thì xin Chúa từ trên trời hãy nghe, thi hành, và xét đoán tôi tớ Chúa, mà báo trả kẻ ác tùy việc nó làm, khiến tội nó đổ lại trên đầu nó, xưng công bình cho người công bình, và thưởng người tùy sự công bình của người.

²⁴And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;

²⁴Nếu dân Y-sơ-re-ên của Chúa, vì phạm tội với Chúa, bị quân thù nghịch đánh được, mà chúng trở lại cùng Chúa, nhận biết danh Ngài, và cầu nguyện nài xin trước mặt Chúa trong đền này,

²⁵Then hear thou from the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.

²⁵thì xin Chúa từ trên trời hãy dủ nghe, tha tội cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Chúa, và khiến họ trở về xứ mà Chúa đã ban cho họ và cho tổ phụ của họ.

²⁶When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;

²⁶Khi các từng trời đóng chặt, không có mưa, bởi vì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phạm tội với Chúa; nếu sau khi Chúa đã đoán phạt họ, họ hướng về nơi này mà cầu nguyện, nhận biết danh Chúa, trở bỏ tội lỗi mình,

²⁷Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

²⁷thì xin Chúa ở trên trời hãy dủ nghe, tha tội cho kẻ tôi tớ Chúa và cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Ngài, khi Ngài đã dạy cho chúng con đường lành mà chúng phải đi theo, và giáng mưa xuống trên đất mà Chúa đã ban cho dân Ngài làm sản nghiệp.

²⁸If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillars; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be:

²⁸Nếu trong xứ có cơn đói kém, ôn dịch, đại hạn, ten sét, cào cào, hay là châu chấu; hoặc kẻ thù nghịch vây hãm các thành trong địa phận họ; bất kỳ có tai vạ gì, tật bịnh gì;

²⁹Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:

²⁹ví bằng có một người, hoặc cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Chúa đã nhận biết tai vạ và sự đau đớn của mình, mà giơ tay ra hướng về nhà này, cầu nguyện và khẩn xin vô luận điều gì,

³⁰Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)

³⁰thì xin Chúa từ trên trời, là nơi ngự của Chúa, hãy dủ nghe, tha thứ cho, và báo lại cho mỗi người tùy theo công việc họ, vì Chúa thông biết lòng của họ (thật chỉ một mình Chúa biết được lòng của con cái loài người);

³¹That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

³¹để khiến chúng kính sợ Chúa, đi theo đường lối của Chúa trọn đời chúng sống ở trên đất mà Chúa đã ban cho tổ phụ chúng tôi.

³²Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name's sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;

³²Vả lại, về người ngoại bang là người chẳng thuộc về dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Chúa, nhưng vì danh lớn Chúa, vì cánh tay quyền năng giơ thẳng ra của Ngài, họ sẽ từ xứ xa đi đến hướng về đền này mà cầu nguyện,

³³Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

³³thì xin Chúa từ trên trời, là nơi ngự của Chúa; hầu cho muôn dân trên đất nhận biết danh Chúa, kính sợ Ngài như dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Chúa, và biết rằng cái đền này mà tôi đã xây cất, được gọi bằng danh Chúa.

³⁴If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;

³⁴Khi dân sự Chúa ra chiến tranh với kẻ thù nghịch mình, theo đường nào mà Chúa sẽ sai đi, nếu chúng cầu nguyện cùng Chúa, xây về hướng thành nầy mà Chúa đã chọn, và về đền nầy mà tôi đã xây cất cho danh Chúa,

³⁵Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

³⁵thì xin Chúa từ trên trời hãy dủ nghe lời cầu nguyện nài xin của chúng, và binh vực cho họ.

³⁶If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;

³⁶Nếu dân Y-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội với Chúa (vì chẳng có người nào mà không phạm tội), và Chúa nổi giận, phó chúng cho kẻ thù nghịch, và kẻ thù nghịch bắt họ làm phu tù dẫn đến xứ xa hay gần;

³⁷Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;

³⁷nếu trong xứ mà họ bị dẫn đến làm phu tù, họ suy nghĩ lại, ăn năn, và cầu khẩn Chúa, mà rằng: Chúng tôi có phạm tội, làm điều gian ác và cư xử cách dữ tợn,

³⁸If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:

³⁸nếu tại trong xứ mà kẻ thù nghịch đã dẫn họ đến làm phu tù, họ hết lòng hết ý trở lại cùng Chúa, cầu nguyện cùng Ngài hướng về xứ mà Chúa đã ban cho tổ phụ họ, về thành Chúa đã chọn, và về đền mà tôi đã xây cất cho danh Chúa,

³⁹Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.

³⁹thì xin Chúa từ trên trời, là nơi ngự của Chúa, hãy dủ nghe lời cầu nguyện nài xin của chúng, binh vực họ, và tha thứ tội mà dân sự của Chúa đã phạm cùng Ngài.

⁴⁰Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

⁴⁰Vậy, Ðức Chúa Trời tôi ôi! bây giờ cầu xin Chúa đoái thương và lắng tai nghe phàm lời nào cầu nguyện trong nơi này.

⁴¹Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

⁴¹Nầy, Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời ôi! xin hãy chổi dậy, để Chúa và hòm quyền năng Ngài được vào nơi an nghỉ Ngài! Lạy Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời! nguyện những thầy tế lễ Chúa được mặc sự cứu rỗi, và các thánh đồ Chúa được mừng rỡ trong sự nhơn từ Ngài!

⁴²O LORD God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.

⁴²Hỡi Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời! xin chớ từ bỏ kẻ chịu xức dầu của Chúa; khá nhớ lại các sự nhân từ của Chúa đối với Ða-vít, là kẻ tôi tớ Ngài.
