¹Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

¹Ðương thuở đó, vua Hê-rốt hà hiếp một vài người trong Hội thánh.

²And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

²Vua dùng gươm giết Gia-cơ là anh của Giăng;

³And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

³thấy điều đó vừa ý người Giu-đa, nên cũng sai bắt Phi -e-rơ nữa.

⁴And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

⁴Bấy giờ nhằm ngày ăn bánh không men. Vậy, vua bắt người và hạ ngục, phó cho bốn ngũ binh canh giữ, mỗi ngũ có bốn tên lính. Vua toan đợi lúc xong lễ Vượt Qua, thì bắt người ra hầu trước mặt dân chúng.

⁵Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

⁵Vậy, Phi -e-rơ bị cầm trong khám, còn Hội thánh cứ cầu nguyện Ðức Chúa Trời cho người luôn.

⁶And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

⁶Vả, đêm rạng ngày mà Hê-rốt định bắt Phi -e-rơ ra hầu, người đanh mang hai xiềng, ngủ giữa hai tên lính, và trước cửa có quân canh giữ ngục.

⁷And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

⁷Thình lình, một thiên sứ của Chúa đến, và có ánh sáng soi trong ngục tối. Thiên sứ đập vào sường Phi -e-rơ, đánh thức người, mà rằng: Hãy mau chờ dậy. Xiềng bèn rớt ra khỏi tay người.

⁸And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

⁸Kế đó, thiên sứ nói rằng: Hãy nịt lưng và mang dép vào đi. Phi -e-rơ làm theo. Thiên sứ lại tiếp: Hãy mặc áo ngoài và theo ta.

⁹And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

⁹Phi -e-rơ ra theo; chẳng biết điều thiên sứ làm đó là thật, song tưởng mình thấy sự hiện thấy.

¹⁰When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

¹⁰Khi qua khỏi vọng canh thứ nhứt, rồi vọng thứ nhì, thì đến nơi cửa sắt, là cửa thông vào thành; cửa đó tự mở ra trước mặt hai người, rồi hai người vượt ra khỏi, đi lên đàng cái, tức thì thiên sứ lìa Phi -e-rơ.

¹¹And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the LORD hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

¹¹Phi -e-rơ bèn tỉnh lại và nói rằng: Bây giờ ta nhận biết thật Ðức Chúa Trời đã sai thiên sứ Ngài giải cứu ta ra khỏi tay Hê-rốt cùng khỏi điều dân Giu-đa đang mong đợi.

¹²And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

¹²Người suy nghĩ lại điều đó, rồi đến nhà Ma-ri, mẹ của Giăng, cũng gọi là Mác, là nơi có nhiều người đang nhóm lại cầu nguyện.

¹³And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

¹³Người gõ cửa nhà ngoài, một con đòi tên là Rô-đơ đến nghe,

¹⁴And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

¹⁴nhận biết tiếng Phi -e-rơ nên mừng rỡ lắm, đến nỗi chẳng mở cửa, nhưng trở chạy vào báo tin rằng Phi -e-rơ đương đứng trước cửa.

¹⁵And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

¹⁵Người ta nói rằng: Mầy sảng. Song nàng quyết là quả thật. Họ bèn nói: Ấy là thiên sứ của người.

¹⁶But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

¹⁶Nhưng Phi -e-rơ cứ gõ cửa hoài. Khi mở cửa, thấy Phi -e-rơ, hết thảy đều kinh hãi.

¹⁷But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

¹⁷Nhưng người lấy tay ra dấu biểu chúng làm thinh, rồi thuật lại cho biết Chúa đã dùng cách nào cứu mình khỏi ngục; đoạn, người lại dặn rằng: Hãy cho Gia-cơ và anh em biết điều nầy. Rồi đó, người bước ra sang nơi khác.

¹⁸Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

¹⁸Ðến sáng, trong bọn lính có sự xôn xao rất lớn: vì chúng nó chẳng hay Phi -e-rơ đi đâu.

¹⁹And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.

¹⁹Vua Hê-rốt sai tìm người, nhưng tìm chẳng được, bèn tra hỏi bọn lính, rồi truyền lịnh dẫn chúng nó đi giết. Ðoạn, người từ xứ Giu-đê xuống thành Sê-sa-rê, ở lại tại đó.

²⁰And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.

²⁰Vả, vua Hê-rốt căm giận dân thành Ty-rơ và dân thành Si-đôn. Chúng đã được lòng quan hầu của vua là Ba-la-tút rồi, bèn đồng lòng đến cùng vua mà xin hòa, vì xứ họ ăn nhờ lương thực trong xứ vua.

²¹And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

²¹Ðến kỳ, vua Hê-rốt mặc áo chầu, ngồi trên ngai, truyền phán giữa công chúng.

²²And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

²²Dân chúng kêu lên rằng: Ấy là tiếng của một thần, chẳng phải tiếng người ta đâu!

²³And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

²³Liền lúc đó, có thiên sứ của Chúa đánh vua Hê-rốt, bởi cớ chẳng nhường sự vinh hiển cho Ðức Chúa Trời; và vua bị trùng đục mà chết.

²⁴But the word of God grew and multiplied.

²⁴Bấy giờ, đạo Ðức Chúa Trời tấn tới rất nhiều, càng ngày càng tràn thêm ra.

²⁵And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

²⁵Ba-na-ba và Sau-lơ làm chức vụ mình xong rồi, bèn từ thành Giê-ru-sa-lem trở về thành An-ti-ốt, dẫn theo Giăng, cũng gọi là Mác.
