¹But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

¹Nhưng có một người tên là A-na-nia, thuận với vợ là Sa-phô-ra, bán gia sản mình,

²And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

²và đồng mưu với vợ, giữ lại một phần tiền giá bán; rồi mới đem phần còn lại đặt dưới chơn các sứ đồ.

³But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

³Phi -e-rơ bèn nói với người rằng: Hỡi A-na-nia, sao quỉ Sa-tan đã đầy dẫy lòng ngươi, đến nỗi ngươi nói dối cùng Ðức Thánh Linh, mà bớt lại một phần giá ruộng đó?

⁴Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

⁴Nếu ngươi chưa bán ruộng đó, há chẳng phải là của ngươi sao? Khi bán rồi, giữ giá đó há chẳng được sao? Ðiều đó nhập vào lòng những thế nào? Ấy chẳng phải ngươi nói dối loài người, bèn là nói dối Ðức Chúa Trời.

⁵And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

⁵A-na-nia nghe bấy nhiêu lời, thì ngã xuống và tắt hơi; phàm người nào hay điều đó đều sợ hãi quá đỗi.

⁶And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

⁶Nhưng các gã trẻ tuổi đứng dậy khâm liệm thây người và đem đi chôn.

⁷And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

⁷Khỏi đó độ ba giờ, vợ người bước vào, vốn chưa hề biết việc mới xảy đến.

⁸And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

⁸Phi -e-rơ cất tiếng nói rằng: Hãy khai cho ta, ngươi đã bán đám ruộng giá có ngằn ấy phải không? Thưa rằng: Phải, giá ngằn ấy đó.

⁹Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

⁹Phi -e-rơ bèn rằng: Sao các ngươi dám đồng mưu để thử Thánh Linh của Chúa? Kìa, chơn những kẻ chôn chồng ngươi đương ở ngoài cửa, họ sẽ đem ngươi đi luôn.

¹⁰Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

¹⁰Chính lúc đó, nàng té xuống nơi chơn Phi -e-rơ và tắt hơi. Các gã tuổi trẻ trở về, thấy nàng đã chết, bèn khiêng đi chôn bên chồng nàng.

¹¹And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

¹¹Cả Hội thánh đều rất sợ hãi, cho đến người nào nghe tin cũng vậy.

¹²And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.

¹²Bấy giờ, có nhiều phép lạ dấu kỳ được làm ra trong dân bởi tay các sứ đồ; và các môn đồ đều hiệp một lòng nhóm nhau dưới hiên cửa Sa-lô-môn.

¹³And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

¹³Dầu vậy, chẳng một kẻ nào khác dám nhập bọn với môn đồ, nhưng dân chúng thì cả tiếng ngợi khen.

¹⁴And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

¹⁴Số những người tin Chúa cùng ngày càng thêm lên, nam nữ đều đông lắm,

¹⁵Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

¹⁵đến nỗi người ta đem kẻ bịnh để ngoài đường, cho nằm trên giường nhỏ hoặc trên chõng, để khi Phi -e-rơ đi ngang qua, bóng của người ít nữa cũng che được một vài người.

¹⁶There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

¹⁶Dân sự ở các thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, đem đến những người đau ốm và kẻ bị tà ma khuấy hại, thì hết thảy đều được chữa lành.

¹⁷Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

¹⁷Bấy giờ thầy cả thượng phẩm và những kẻ theo người (ấy là phe Sa-đu-sê) đều đứng dậy, đầy lòng ghen tương,

¹⁸And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

¹⁸bắt các sứ đồ bỏ vào khám công.

¹⁹But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

¹⁹Nhưng đương ban đêm, có một thiên sứ của Chúa mở cửa khám cho sứ đồ ra, và dặn rằng:

²⁰Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

²⁰Ði đi, hãy chường mặt nơi đền thờ, mà rao giảng cho dân chúng mọi lời nầy của sự sống.

²¹And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

²¹sứ đồ nghe bấy nhiêu lời, vừa lúc rạng ngày, vào đền thờ, khởi sự dạy dỗ. Nhưng thầy cả thượng phẩm và những kẻ ở với người đến thình lình, nhóm tòa công luận và hết thảy trưởng lão của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên lại, sai người vào khám đặng điệu các sứ đồ đến.

²²But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told,

²²Các kẻ sai đến khám, không thấy sứ đồ tại đó, bèn trở về trình

²³Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

²³rằng: chúng tôi thấy khám đóng kĩ, lính canh đứng ngoài cửa; nhưng lúc mở ra chẳng thấy một người nào ở trong.

²⁴Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

²⁴Quan coi đền thờ và các thầy tế lễ cả nghe vậy, đều bức tức về việc các sứ đồ và về manh mối của việc ấy.

²⁵Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

²⁵Nhưng có người thoạt đến, báo với họ rằng: Kìa, những người mà các quan đã bỏ tù, nay đương ở trong đền thờ dạy dỗ dân sự!

²⁶Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

²⁶Kế đó, quan coi đền thờ với các kẻ sai cùng đi đến nơi bắt và dẫn các sứ đồ đi nhưng không dùng cách dữ tợn, vì sợ dân chúng ném đá;

²⁷And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

²⁷và khi điệu các sứ đồ đi rồi, thì đem đến tòa công luận. Thầy cả thượng phẩm tra hỏi các sứ đồ, rằng:

²⁸Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

²⁸Chúng ta đã cấm ngặt các ngươi, không cho lấy danh đó mà dạy dỗ, song các ngươi lại làm cho thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đầy dẫy đạo giáo mình. Vậy, các ngươi muốn khiến máu người ấy đổ lại trên chúng ta sao!

²⁹Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

²⁹Phi -e-rơ và các sứ đồ trả lời rằng: Thà phải vâng lời Ðức Chúa Trời còn hơn là vâng lời người ta.

³⁰The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

³⁰Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ chúng ta đã khiến Ðức Chúa Jêsus sống lại, là Ðấng mà các ông đã treo trên cây gỗ và giết đi.

³¹Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

³¹Ðức Chúa Trời đã đem Ðấng ấy lên bên hữu Ngài, làm Vua và Cứu Chúa, để ban lòng ăn năn và sự tha tội cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.

³²And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

³²Còn Chúng ta đây là kẻ làm chứng mọi việc đó, cũng như Ðức Thánh Linh mà Ðức Chúa Trời đã ban cho kẻ vâng lời Ngài vậy.

³³When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

³³Họ nghe mấy lời thì nghiến ngầm, giận hoảng, bàn mưu giết các sứ đồ.

³⁴Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

³⁴Nhưng một người Pha-ri-si, tên là Ga-ma-li-ên, làm luật sư, được dân sự tôn kính, đứng lên giữa tòa công luận, truyền lịnh đem các sứ đồ ra ngoài một lát.

³⁵And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

³⁵Kế đó, người nói rằng: Hỡi người Y-sơ-ra-ên, hãy cẩn thận về điều các ngươi sẽ xứ với những người nầy.

³⁶For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

³⁶Trước đây, Thêu-đa dấy lên, xưng mình là kẻ tôn trọng, có độ bốn trăm người theo hắn: hắn bị giết, và cả thảy những kẻ theo hắn đều tan lạc, rốt lại chẳng qua là hư không.

³⁷After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

³⁷Kế hắn thì có Giu-đa, người Ga-li-lê, dấy lên, về thời kỳ tu sổ dân, rủ nhiều người theo mình; nhưng rồi cũng chết, bao nhiêu kẻ theo phải tan tành.

³⁸And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

³⁸Nay ta khuyên các ngươi: Hãy lánh xa những người đó để mặc họ đi. Vì nếu mưu luận và công cuộc nầy ra bởi người ta, thì sẽ tự hư đi;

³⁹But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

³⁹nhưng nếu bởi Ðức Chúa Trời ra, thì các ngươi phá diệt những người đó chẳng nổi, và lại là liều mình đánh giặc cùng Ðức Chúa Trời. Chúng nghe theo lời người:

⁴⁰And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

⁴⁰thì đòi các sứ đồ trở vào, sai đánh đòn, rồi cấm không được lấy danh Ðức Chúa Jêsus mà giảng dạy; đoạn, tha ra.

⁴¹And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

⁴¹Vậy, các sứ đồ từ tòa công luận ra, đều hớn hở về mình đã được kể là xứng đáng chịu nhục vì danh Ðức Chúa Jêsus.

⁴²And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

⁴²Ngày nào cũng vậy, tại trong đền thờ hoặc từng nhà, sứ đồ cứ dạy dỗ rao truyền mãi về Tin Lành của Ðức Chúa Jêsus, tức là Ðấng Christ.
