¹And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.

¹Nghe tin đó, vua Ê-xê-chia liền xé áo mình, quấn bao gai, vào đền Ðức Giê-hô-va.

²And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

²Ðoạn, sai quan cung giám Ê-li-a-kim, thơ ký Sép-na, và các trưởng lão trong hàng thầy tế lễ, đều quấn bao gai, đến cùng đấng tiên tri Ê-sai, con trai của A-mốt,

³And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.

³nói với người rằng: Vua Ê-xê-chia phán như vầy: Ngày nay là ngày hoạn nạn, quở phạt, và hổ nhuốc; vì con đã đến kỳ đẻ rồi, nhưng không có sức mà đẻ ra.

⁴It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left.

⁴Có lẽ Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời ngươi sẽ nghe những lời của Ráp-sa-kê mà chủ nó là vua A-si-ri đã sai đến để đố thách Ðức Chúa Trời hằng sống; và có lẽ Ngài sẽ quở phạt nó theo như những lời mà Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời ngươi đã nghe: vậy xin hãy vì những người còn lại đây mà cầu nguyện!

⁵So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

⁵Các tôi tớ của vua Ê-xê-chia bèn đến cùng Ê-sai.

⁶And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

⁶Ê-sai bảo rằng: Nầy là lời các ngươi sẽ tâu lại cùng chủ mình: Ðức Giê-hô-va có phán như vầy: Chớ sợ về những lời ngươi đã nghe, là lời của tôi tớ vua A-si-ri dùng mà nói phạm ta.

⁷Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

⁷Nầy ta đặt thần linh trong nó, rồi nó sẽ nghe tin mà trở về xứ mình; tại đó, ta sẽ làm cho nó ngã dưới gươm.

⁸So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.

⁸Vả, khi Ráp-sa-kê nghe chủ mình là vua A-si-ri đã đi khỏi La-ki, bèn trở về chầu người, gặp người đương đánh thành Líp-na.

⁹And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

⁹Bấy giờ vua A-si-ri có nghe tin báo về Tiệt-ha-ca là vua Ê-thi-ô-bi rằng: Người kéo ra để đánh cùng vua; bèn sai các sứ giả đến cùng Ê-xê-chia, và dặn rằng:

¹⁰Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

¹⁰Các ngươi hãy nói cùng Ê-xê-chia, vua Giu-đa, rằng: Vua chớ để cho mình bị lừa bởi Ðức Chúa Trời mà mình tin cậy, nói rằng: Giê-ru-sa-lem sẽ chẳng phó vào tay vua A-si-ri đâu.

¹¹Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?

¹¹Nầy, vua hẳn có nghe những sẽ các vua A-si-ri đã làm ra ở các nước. Các nước ấy đã bị hủy diệt cả rồi; còn vua, vua sẽ được cứu khỏi ư!

¹²Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar?

¹²Các thần của các nước mà tổ tiên chúng ta đã diệt, tức là các thần của Gô-xan, của Cha-ran, của Rết-sép và của con cái Ê-đen ở Tê-la-sa, có cứu được họ không?

¹³Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?

¹³Chớ nào vua của Ha-mát, vua của Aït-bát, các vua của thành Sê-phạt va-im, thành Hê-ma và thành Y-va ở đâu?

¹⁴And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.

¹⁴Ê-xê-chia đã nhận thơ tại tay sứ giả và đọc rồi, thì lên nhà Ðức Giê-hô-va, mở thơ ra trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va,

¹⁵And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying,

¹⁵cầu nguyện Ðức Giê-hô-va rằng:

¹⁶O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.

¹⁶Hỡi Ðức Giê-hô-va vạn quân, Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, là Ðấng ngự trên các chê-ru-bin, chỉ một mình Ngài là Ðức Chúa Trời của mọi nước trên đất, Ngài đã dựng nên trời và đất.

¹⁷Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.

¹⁷Hỡi Ðức Giê-hô-va, xin nghiêng tai mà nghe! Hỡi Ðức Giê-hô-va, xin mở mắt mà xem! Xin nghe mọi lời mà San-chê-ríp đã khiến nói cùng tôi để đố thách Ðức Chúa Trời hằng sống!

¹⁸Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,

¹⁸Hỡi Ðức Giê-hô-va, thật rằng các vua nước A-si-ri đã hủy diệt các nước và phá hại đất đai,

¹⁹And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.

¹⁹ném các thần trong lửa. Nhưng ấy chẳng phải là các thần, bèn là việc của tay người ta, bằng gỗ và bằng đá, cho nên họ đã hủy diệt đi được.

²⁰Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.

²⁰Hỡi Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi, vậy, bây giờ, xin Ngài cứu chúng tôi khỏi tay San-chê-ríp, hầu cho mọi nước trên đất đều biết chỉ một mình Ngài là Ðức Giê-hô-va!

²¹Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria:

²¹Ê-sai, con trai của A-mốt, bèn khiến người tâu cùng vua Ê-xê-chia rằng: Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên phán như vầy: Vì ngươi đã cầu xin ta nghịch cùng San-chê-ríp, vua A-si-ri;

²²This is the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.

²²nầy là lời Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán về nó: Gái đồng trinh Si-ôn khinh dể ngươi, nhạo cười ngươi; gái Giê-ru-sa-lem lắc đầu sau ngươi!

²³Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

²³Ngươi đã đố thách và nói phạm đến ai? Ngươi đã cất tiếng lên và ngước mắt lên cao nghịch cùng ai? Ấy là nghịch cùng Ðấng Thánh của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

²⁴By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel.

²⁴Ngươi đã dùng các tôi tớ mình mà đố thách Chúa, nói rằng: Ta đem muôn vàn cỗ xe lên trên chót núi, là nơi xa thẳm của Li-ban; ta sẽ đốn những cây bách rất cao, cây tùng rất xinh; vào đến trên đỉnh rất cao, trong rừng của ruộng tốt.

²⁵I have digged, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places.

²⁵Ta đã đào đất và uống nước; dùng bàn chơn làm cho cạn mọi sông Ê-díp-tô.

²⁶Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into ruinous heaps.

²⁶Ngươi há chẳng nghe rằng ta đã làm sự đó từ lâu, đã định từ đời xưa hay sao? Hiện nay ta khiến xảy ra, hầu cho ngươi phá các thành bền vững nên gò đống đổ nát.

²⁷Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.

²⁷Những dân cư các thành ấy đã kém sức, khiếp sợ, xấu hổ, trở nên như rau ngoài đồng và cỏ xanh, như cỏ trên mái nhà, như lúa mì chưa trồi đọt mà đã héo.

²⁸But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.

²⁸Ta xem thấy ngươi khi ngồi, khi ra, khi vào và khi náo loạn nghịch cùng ta.

²⁹Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

²⁹Vì ngươi náo loạn nghịch cùng ta, lời xấc xược của ngươi đã thấu đến tai ta, nên ta tra cái khoen nơi lỗ mũi ngươi, và cái khớp nơi miệng ngươi, khiến ngươi theo con đường mình đã noi đến mà trở về.

³⁰And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.

³⁰Hỡi Ê-xê-chia, điều nầy sẽ là dấu: năm nay sẽ ăn hoa lợi chính ruộng tự sanh ra, sang năm còn ăn lúa tự nhiên mọc lên không gieo giống. Nhưng, đến năm thứ ba, hãy gieo và gặt, hãy trồng vườn nho và ăn trái.

³¹And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:

³¹Trong nhà Giu-đa kẻ nào tránh khỏi nạn và còn sót lại sẽ châm rễ mới ở dưới và ra trái ở trên.

³²For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

³²Vì sẽ có dân sót ra từ Giê-ru-sa-lem, và mấy kẻ trốn khỏi nạn ra từ núi Si-ôn: lòng sốt sắng của Ðức Giê-hô-va vạn quân sẽ làm điều đó.

³³Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.

³³Vậy nên, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán về vua A-si-ri như vầy: Nó sẽ không vào thành nầy, chẳng bắn vào một mũi trên, cũng chẳng dùng một cái thuẫn mà nghịch với, và chẳng đắp lũy mà cự lại.

³⁴By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.

³⁴Nó sẽ theo con đường mình đã noi đến mà trở về, không vào thành nầy đâu, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán vậy.

³⁵For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

³⁵Ta sẽ binh vực thành nầy, để giải cứu nó, vì cớ ta và vì cớ Ða-vít là tôi tớ ta.

³⁶Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

³⁶Bấy giờ, một thiên sứ của Ðức Giê-hô-va vào trại quân của người A-si-ri, và giết mười tám vạn năm ngàn người. Sáng hôm sau, người ta dậy sớm, thấy rặt những thây chết.

³⁷So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.

³⁷San-chê-ríp, vua A-si-ri, bèn đi, trở về ở tại Ni-ni-ve.

³⁸And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

³⁸Một ngày kia người đương quì lạy trong đền Nít-róc, thần của mình, thì con trai người là A-tra-mê-léc và Sa-rết-se lấy gươm giết người. Ðoạn, hai người đó trốn trong xứ A-ra-rát. Con trai người là Ê-sạt-ha-đôn trị vì thay người.
