¹Now it came to pass, when Adonizedec king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;

¹Khi A-đô-ni-Xê-đéc, vua Giê-ru-sa-lem, hay rằng Giô-suê đã chiếm lấy thành A-hi, và tận diệt nó đi, đãi thành A-hi và vua nó như người đã đãi Giê-ri-cô và vua nó, lại hay rằng dân Ga-ba-ôn đã lập hòa với dân Y-sơ-ra-ên và ở cùng họ,

²That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

²thì người lấy làm sợ hãi lắm; vì Ga-ba-ôn là một thành lớn, một đế đô thật; lại lớn hơn thành A-hi, và cả dân sự nó đều là người mạnh dạn.

³Wherefore Adonizedec king of Jerusalem, sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

³Vậy, A-đô-ni-Xê-đéc, vua thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, sai người đi nói cùng Hô-ham, vua Hếp-rôn, cùng Phi-ram, vua Giạt-mút, cùng Gia-phia, vua La-ki, cùng Ðê-bia, vua Éc-lôn, mà rằng:

⁴Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

⁴Hãy đi lên đến ta mà tiếp cứu ta, và đánh thành Ga-ba-ôn; vì nó đã lập hòa cùng Giô-suê và dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.

⁵Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

⁵Vậy, năm vua A-mô-rít, tức là vua Giê-ru-sa-lem, vua Hếp-rôn, vua Giạt-mút, vua La-ki, và vua Éc-lôn nhóm hiệp, kéo lên cùng hết thảy quân lính mình, đóng trại trước Ga-ba-ôn, và hãm đành thành.

⁶And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

⁶Người Ga-ba-ôn sai kẻ đến nói cùng Giô-suê tại trại quân Ghinh-ganh, mà rằng: Xin chớ bỏ tôi tớ ông; hãy mau lên đến cùng chúng tôi, giải thoát và tiếp cứu chúng tôi vì hết thảy vua A-mô-rít trong núi đã hiệp lại nghịch chúng tôi.

⁷So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor.

⁷Vậy, Giô-suê ở Ghinh-ganh đi lên với hết thảy quân lính và những người mạnh dân.

⁸And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

⁸Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Giô-suê rằng: Chớ sợ, vì ta đã phó chúng nó vào tay ngươi, chẳng còn một ai đứng nổi trước mặt ngươi được.

⁹Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.

⁹Vậy, Giô-suê ở Ghinh-ganh đi trọn đêm, rồi chợt đến áp chúng nó.

¹⁰And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

¹⁰Ðức Giê-hô-va làm cho chúng nó vỡ chạy trước mặt Y-sơ-ra-ên, khiến cho bị đại bại gần Ga-ba-ôn; Y-sơ-ra-ên rượt đuổi chúng nó theo đường dốc Bết-Hô-rôn, và đánh họ cho đến A-xê-ca và Ma-kê-đa.

¹¹And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

¹¹Khi chúng nó chạy trốn trước mặt Y-sơ-ra-ên và xuống dốc Bê-Hô-rôn, thì Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến đá lớn từ trời rớt xuống cả đường cho đến A-xê-ca, và chúng nó đều bị chết. Số những người bị chết về mưa đá nhiều hơn số những người bị dân Y-sơ-ra-ên giết bằng gươm.

¹²Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

¹²Ngày mà Ðức Giê-hô-va phó dân A-mô-rít cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì Giô-suê thưa cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va tại trước mặt Y-sơ-ra-ên, mà rằng: Hỡi mặt trời, hãy dừng lại trên Ga-ba-ôn; Hỡi mặt trăng, hãy ngừng lại trên trũng A-gia-lôn!

¹³And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

¹³Mặt trời bèn dừng, mặt trăng liền ngừng, Cho đến chừng dân sự đã báo thù quân nghịch mình. Ðiều đó há không có chép trong sách Gia-sa sao? Mặt trời dừng lại giữa trời, và không vội lặn ước một ngày trọn.

¹⁴And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

¹⁴Từ trước và về sau, chẳng hề có ngày nào như ngày đó, là ngày Ðức Giê-hô-va có nhậm lời của một loài người; vì Ðức Giê-hô-va chiến cự cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.

¹⁵And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

¹⁵Rồi Giô-suê và cả Y-sơ-ra-ên trở về trại quân Ghinh-ganh.

¹⁶But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.

¹⁶Vả, năm vua kia đã chạy trốn, và ẩn trong một hang đá tại Ma-kê-đa.

¹⁷And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.

¹⁷Có người thuật cho Giô-suê hay điều đó, mà rằng: Người ta có gặp năm vua núp trong một hang đá tại Ma-kê-đa.

¹⁸And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:

¹⁸Giô-suê bèn dạy rằng: Hãy lấy đá lớn lấp miệng hang lại, và cắt người canh giữ.

¹⁹And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.

¹⁹Còn các ngươi chớ dừng lại, phải rượt theo quân nghịch, xông đánh phía sau; đừng để chúng nó vào thành chúng nó; vì Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã phó chúng nó vào tay các ngươi.

²⁰And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.

²⁰Khi Giô-suê và dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã đánh chúng nó bị bại rất lớn, cho đến nỗi tuyệt diệt đi, và khi những người trong chúng nó đã được thoát khỏi, rút ở lại trong thành kiên cố,

²¹And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

²¹thì cả dân sự trở về với Giô-suê bình yên nơi trại quân tại Ma-kê-đa, chẳng một ai dám khua môi nghịch cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.

²²Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.

²²Bấy giờ, Giô-suê nói rằng: Hãy mở miệng hang, đem năm vua đó ra, rồi dẫn đến cho ta.

²³And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.

²³Họ làm như vậy, đưa năm vua ra khỏi hang đá, và dẫn đến cho người, tức là vua Giê-ru-sa-lem, vua Hếp-rôn, vua Giạt-mút, vua La-ki, và vua Éc-lôn.

²⁴And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

²⁴Khi họ đã dẫn năm vua này đến cùng Giô-suê, thì Giô-suê gọi hết thảy người nam của Y-sơ-ra-ên, và nói cùng các binh tướng đã đi với mình, mà rằng: Hãy lại gần, đạp chơn lên cổ của các vua này. Họ bèn đến gần, đạp chơn trên cổ các vua ấy.

²⁵And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

²⁵Ðoạn, Giô-suê nói cùng họ rằng: Chớ ngại, và chớ kinh khủng; khá vững lòng bền chí, vì Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ làm như vậy cho hết thảy thù nghịch các ngươi, mà các ngươi sẽ chiến cự.

²⁶And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

²⁶Sau rồi, Giô-suê đánh giết các vua ấy, biểu đem treo trên năm cây; năm vua ấy bị treo trên cây cho đến chiều tối.

²⁷And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave's mouth, which remain until this very day.

²⁷Khi mặt trời chen lặn, Giô-suê biểu người ta hạ thây xuống khỏi cây; họ liệng những thây trong hang đá, là chỗ các vua ấy đã núp, rồi lấy những đá lớn lấp miệng hang lại, hãy còn cho đến ngày nay.

²⁸And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.

²⁸Trong ngày đó, Giô-suê cũng chiếm lấy Ma-kê-đa, và dùng lưỡi gươm giết cả thành cùng vua nó. Người tận diệt thành, luôn hết thảy kẻ ở trong, không để thoát một ai. Người đãi vua Ma-kê-đa như đã đãi vua Giê-ri-cô.

²⁹Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:

²⁹Ðoạn, Giô-suê cùng cả Y-sơ-ra-ên ở Ma-kê-đa đi qua Líp-na, và hãm đánh Líp-na.

³⁰And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.

³⁰Ðức Giê-hô-va cũng phó Líp-na cùng vua nó vào tay Y-sơ-ra-ên; họ dùng lưỡi gươm diệt thành, luôn hết thảy kẻ ở trong đó, chẳng để thoát một ai. Người đãi vua thành này y như đã đãi vua Giê-ri-cô vậy.

³¹And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:

³¹Kế ấy, Giô-suê cùng cả Y-sơ-ra-ên ở Líp-na đi qua La-ki, đóng trại đối cùng thành, và hãm đánh nó.

³²And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

³²Ðức Giê-hô-va phó La-ki vào tay Y-sơ-ra-ên; ngày thứ hai họ chiếm lấy thành, dùng lưỡi gươm diệt thành với những người ở trong, cũng y như đã làm cho Líp-na vậy.

³³Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

³³Bấy giờ, Hô-ram, vua Ghê-xe, đi lên tiếp cứu La-ki; Giô-suê đánh bại người và dân sự người, đến đỗi không còn để ai thoát khỏi.

³⁴And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:

³⁴Ðoạn, Giô-suê cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên ở La-ki đi qua Éc-lôn, đóng trại đối ngang thành, và hãm đánh nó.

³⁵And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

³⁵Chánh ngày đó, họ chiếm lấy thành, dùng lưỡi gươm diệt nó đi. Trong ngày đó, Giô-suê tận diệt thành với hết thảy người ở trong đó, y như người đã làm cho La-ki vậy.

³⁶And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:

³⁶Kế đó, Giô-suê cùng cả Y-sơ-ra-ên từ Éc-lôn đi lên Hếp-rôn, và hãm đánh nó.

³⁷And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.

³⁷Họ chiếm lấy thành, dùng lưỡi gươm diệt thành, vua, các hương thôn nó, và mọi người ở trong đó, không để thoát khỏi một ai, cũng y như người đã làm cho Éc-lôn vậy; người tận diệt thành và các người ở trong.

³⁸And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:

³⁸Ðoạn, Giô-suê cùng cả Y-sơ-ra-ên đi đến Ðê-bia, và hãm đánh nó.

³⁹And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.

³⁹Người chiếm lấy thành và hương thôn nó, cùng bắt vua, dùng lưỡi gươm diệt thành, và tận diệt hết thảy những người ở trong, không để thoát khỏi một ai. Người đãi Ðê-bia và vua nó, y như đã đãi Hếp-rôn, đãi Líp-na và vua nó.

⁴⁰So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

⁴⁰Vậy, Giô-suê đánh toàn xứ, nào miền núi, nào miền nam, nào đồng bằng, nào những gò nỗng, và các vua mấy miền đó. Người không để thoát khỏi một ai hết; phàm vật có hơi thở thì người diệt hết đi, y như Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã truyền dặn.

⁴¹And Joshua smote them from Kadeshbarnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

⁴¹Ấy vậy, Giô-suê đánh các vua đó từ Ca-đe-Ba-nê-a cho đến Ga-xa, và toàn xứ Gô-sen cho đến Ga-ba-ôn.

⁴²And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

⁴²Qua một lượt thì Giô-suê bắt các vua này và chiếm lấy xứ họ, bởi vì Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên chinh chiến cho Y-sơ-ra-ên.

⁴³And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

⁴³Ðoạn, Giô-suê và cả Y-sơ-ra-ên trở về trại quân ở Ghinh-ganh.
