¹After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

¹Hai ngày trước lễ Vượt Qua và lễ ăn bánh không men, các thầy tế lễ cả cùng các thầy thông giáo tìm mưu đặng bắt Ðức Chúa Jêsus và giết đi.

²But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

²Vì họ nói rằng: Chẳng nên làm việc nầy trong này lễ, sợ sanh sự xôn xao trong dân chúng.

³And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

³Ðức Chúa Jêsus ở tại làng Bê-tha-ni, trong nhà Si-môn là kẻ phung. Ngài đương ngồi bàn ăn, có một người đờn bà vào, đem một cái bình bằng ngọc, đựng đầy dầu cam tòng thật rất quí giá, đập bể ra mà đổ dầu thơm trên đầu Ðức Chúa Jêsus.

⁴And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

⁴Có vài người nổi giận nói cùng nhau rằng: Sao xài phí dầu thơm ấy như vậy?

⁵For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

⁵Vì có thể bán dầu đó được hơn ba trăm đơ-ni-ê, mà bố thí cho kẻ khó khăn. Vậy, họ oán trách người.

⁶And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

⁶Nhưng Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán rằng: Hãy để mặc người; sao các ngươi làm rầy người mà chi? Người đã làm một việc tốt cho ta.

⁷For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

⁷Vì các ngươi hằng có kẻ khó khăn ở cùng mình, khi nào muốn làm phước cho họ cũng được; nhưng các ngươi chẳng có ta ở luôn với đâu.

⁸She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

⁸Người đã làm điều mình có thể làm được, đã xức xác cho ta trước để chôn.

⁹Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

⁹Quả thật, ta nói cùng các ngươi, trong khắp cả thế gian, hễ nơi nào Tin Lành nầy được giảng ra, việc người đã làm cũng sẽ được nhắc lại để nhớ đến người.

¹⁰And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.

¹⁰Bấy giờ, Giu-đa Ích-ca-ri-ốt là một trong mười hai sứ đồ, đến nơi các thầy tế lễ cả, để nộp Ðức Chúa Jêsus cho.

¹¹And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.

¹¹họ vui lòng mà nghe và hứa cho nó tiền bạc; rồi Giu-đa tìm dịp tiện để nộp Ngài.

¹²And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?

¹²Ngày thứ nhứt về lễ ăn bánh không men, là ngày giết chiên con làm lễ Vượt Qua, các môn đồ thưa cùng Ðức Chúa Jêsus rằng: Thầy muốn chúng tôi đi dọn cho thầy ăn lễ Vượt Qua tại đâu?

¹³And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.

¹³Ngài sai hai môn đồ đi, và dặn rằng: Hãy vào thành, sẽ gặp một người xách vò nước; cứ theo sau,

¹⁴And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

¹⁴hễ người vào nhà nào, các ngươi sẽ nói cùng chủ nhà ấy rằng: Thầy phán: Cái phòng ta sẽ dùng ăn lễ Vượt Qua với môn đồ ta ở đâu?

¹⁵And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

¹⁵Chính kẻ đó sẽ chỉ cho các ngươi một cái phòng lớn trên lầu có đồ đạc sẵn sàng, hãy dọn tại đó cho chúng ta.

¹⁶And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

¹⁶Vậy, hai môn đồ đi ra mà vào thành, gặp mọi điều như lời Ngài đã phán, rồi dọn lễ Vượt Qua.

¹⁷And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.

¹⁷Buổi chiều, Ngài đến với mười hai sứ đồ.

¹⁸And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.

¹⁸Ðang ngồi ăn, Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán rằng: Quả thật, ta nói cùng các ngươi, trong vòng các ngươi có một kẻ ngồi ăn cùng ta, sẽ phản ta.

¹⁹And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?

¹⁹Các môn đồ bèn buồn rầu lắm, cứ lần lượt mà thưa cùng Ngài rằng: Có phải tôi chăng?

²⁰And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.

²⁰Ngài đáp rằng: Ấy là một trong mười hai người, là người thò tay vào mâm cùng ta.

²¹The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

²¹Vì Con người đi, y như lời đã chép về Ngài; song khốn cho kẻ phản Con người! Thà nó chẳng sanh ra thì hơn.

²²And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.

²²Khi đang ăn, Ðức Chúa Jêsus lấy bánh, tạ ơn, đoạn bẻ ra trao cho các môn đồ, mà phán rằng: Hãy lấy, nầy là thân thể ta.

²³And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.

²³Ngài lại cầm chén, tạ ơn, rồi trao cho các môn đồ, và ai nấy đều uống.

²⁴And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

²⁴Ngài phán rằng: Nầy là huyết ta, huyết của sự giao ước đổ ra cho nhiều người.

²⁵Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

²⁵Quả thật, ta nói cùng các ngươi, ta không uống trái nho nầy nữa, cho đến ngày ta sẽ uống trái nho mới trong nước Ðức Chúa Trời.

²⁶And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

²⁶Khi đã hát thơ thánh rồi, Chúa và môn đồ đi ra đặng lên núi ô-li-ve.

²⁷And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

²⁷Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán cùng môn đồ rằng: Hết thảy các ngươi sẽ gặp dịp vấp phạm; vì có chép rằng: Ta sẽ đánh kẻ chăn chiên, thì bầy chiên sẽ tan lạc.

²⁸But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

²⁸Nhưng khi ta sống lại rồi, ta sẽ đi đến xứ Ga-li-lê trước các ngươi.

²⁹But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

²⁹Phi -e-rơ thưa rằng: Dầu nói người vấp phạm vì cớ thầy, nhưng tôi chẳng hề làm vậy.

³⁰And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

³⁰Ðức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Quả thật, ta nói cùng ngươi, hôm nay, cũng trong đêm nay, trước khi gà gáy hai lượt, ngươi sẽ chối ta ba lần.

³¹But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

³¹Nhưng Phi -e-rơ lại thưa cách quả quyết hơn rằng: Dầu tôi phải chết cùng thầy, tôi cũng chẳng chối thầy đâu. Hết thảy các môn đồ khác cũng đều nói như vậy.

³²And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

³²Kế đó, đi đến một nơi kia, gọi là Ghết-sê-ma-nê, Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán cùng môn đồ rằng: Các ngươi hãy ngồi đây, đợi ta cầu nguyện.

³³And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

³³Ngài bèn đem Phi -e-rơ, Gia-cơ và Giăng đi, thì Ngài khởi sự kinh hãi và sầu não.

³⁴And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

³⁴Ngài phán cùng ba người rằng: Linh-hồn ta buồn rầu lắm cho đến chết; các ngươi hãy ở đây, và tỉnh thức.

³⁵And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

³⁵Rồi Ngài đi một đỗi xa hơn, sấp mình xuống đất mà cầu nguyện rằng: nếu có thể được, xin giờ nầy qua khỏi mình.

³⁶And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

³⁶Ngài rằng: A-ba lạy Cha, mọi việc Cha làm được cả; xin Cha cất chén nầy khỏi con; nhưng không theo điều con muốn, mà theo điều Cha muốn.

³⁷And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

³⁷Rồi Ngài trở lại, thấy ba người ngủ; bèn phán cùng Phi -e-rơ rằng: Si-môn, ngủ ư! Ngươi không thức được một giờ sao?

³⁸Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

³⁸Hãy tỉnh thức và cầu nguyện, để các ngươi khỏi sa vào chước cám dỗ; tâm thần thì muốn lắm, mà xác thịt thì yếu đuối.

³⁹And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.

³⁹Ngài lại đi lần nữa, và cầu nguyện, y như lời trước.

⁴⁰And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.

⁴⁰Ngài trở lại, thấy môn đồ còn ngủ, vì con mắt đã đừ quá; và không biết trả lời cùng Ngài thể nào.

⁴¹And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

⁴¹Ngài trở lại lần thứ ba, phán cùng môn đồ rằng: Bây giờ các ngươi ngủ và nghỉ ngơi ư! thôi, giờ đã tới rồi; nầy, Con người hầu bị nộp trong tay kẻ có tội.

⁴²Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

⁴²Hãy chờ dậy, đi hè; kìa, đứa phản ta đã đến gần.

⁴³And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

⁴³Ngài đương còn phán, tức thì Giu-đa, là một trong mười hai sứ đồ thoạt đến với một toán đông cầm gươm và gậy, bởi các thầy tế lễ cả, các thầy thông giáo, và các trưởng lão phái đến.

⁴⁴And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

⁴⁴Và, đứa phản Ngài đã cho chúng dấu hiệu nầy: Hễ tôi hôn ai, ấy là người đó; hãy bắt lấy và điệu đi cho cẩn thận.

⁴⁵And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.

⁴⁵Vậy, khi Giu-đa đến rồi, liền lại gần Ngài mà nói rằng: Lạy thầy! Rồi nó hôn Ngài.

⁴⁶And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

⁴⁶Chúng bèn tra tay bắt Ðức Chúa Jêsus.

⁴⁷And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

⁴⁷Có một người trong những kẻ ở đó rút gươm ra, đánh một đứa đầy tớ của thầy cả thượng phẩm, chém đứt tai đi.

⁴⁸And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

⁴⁸Ðức Chúa Jêsus cất tiếng phán cùng chúng rằng: Các ngươi đem gươm và gậy đến bắt ta như ta là kẻ trộm cướp.

⁴⁹I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

⁴⁹Ta hằng ngày ở giữa các ngươi, giảng dạy trong đền thờ, mà các ngươi không bắt ta; nhưng điều ấy xảy đến, để lời Kinh Thánh được ứng nghiệm.

⁵⁰And they all forsook him, and fled.

⁵⁰Bấy giờ, mọi người đều bỏ Ngài và trốn đi cả.

⁵¹And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

⁵¹Có một người trẻ tuổi kia theo Ngài, chỉ có cái khăn bằng gai trùm mình; chúng bắt người.

⁵²And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

⁵²Nhưng người bỏ khăn lại, ở truồng chạy trốn khỏi tay chúng.

⁵³And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

⁵³Chúng điệu Ðức Chúa Jêsus đến nơi thầy cả thượng phẩm, có hết thảy thầy tế lễ cả, trưởng lão, và thầy thông giáo nhóm họp tại đó.

⁵⁴And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

⁵⁴Phi -e-rơ theo sau Ngài xa xa, cho đến nơi sân trong của thầy cả thượng phẩm; rồi ngồi với quân lính gần đống lửa mà sưởi.

⁵⁵And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

⁵⁵Vả, các thầy tế lễ cả, cùng cả tòa công luận đều tìm chứng gì để nghịch cùng Ðức Chúa Jêsus đặng giết Ngài, song không kiếm được chi hết.

⁵⁶For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

⁵⁶Vì có nhiều kẻ làm chứng dối nghịch cùng Ngài; nhưng lời họ khai chẳng hiệp nhau.

⁵⁷And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

⁵⁷Bấy giờ có mấy người đứng lên làm chứng dối nghịch cùng Ng@ i rằng:

⁵⁸We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

⁵⁸Chúng tôi có nghe người nói: Ta sẽ phá đền thờ nầy bởi tay người ta cất lên, khỏi ba ngày, ta sẽ cất một đền thờ khác không phải bởi tay người ta cất.

⁵⁹But neither so did their witness agree together.

⁵⁹Song về điều nầy, lời chứng của họ cũng chẳng hiệp nhau nữa.

⁶⁰And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

⁶⁰Khi ấy, thầy cả thượng phẩm đứng dậy giữa hội đồng, tra hỏi Ðức Chúa Jêsus mà rằng: Ngươi chẳng đối đáp chi hết về những điều các kẻ nầy cáo người sao?

⁶¹But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

⁶¹Nhưng Ðức Chúa Jêsus làm thinh, không trả lời chi hết. Thầy cả thượng phẩm lại hỏi: Ấy chính ngươi là Ðấng Christ, Con Ðức Chúa Trời đáng ngợi khen phải không?

⁶²And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

⁶²Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán rằng: Ta chính phải đó; các ngươi sẽ thấy Con người ngồi bên hữu quyền phép Ðức Chúa Trời, và ngự giữa đám mây trên trời mà đến.

⁶³Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

⁶³Bấy giờ thầy cả thượng phẩm xé áo mình ra mà rằng: Chúng ta có cần kiếm chứng cớ khác nữa làm chi?

⁶⁴Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

⁶⁴Các ngươi có nghe lời lộng ngôn chăng? Các ngươi nghĩ thế nào: Ai nấy đều đoán Ngài đáng chết.

⁶⁵And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

⁶⁵Có kẻ nhổ trên Ngài, đậy mặt Ngài lại, đấm Ngài, và nói với Ngài rằng: Hãy nói tiên tri đi! Các lính canh lấy gậy đánh Ngài.

⁶⁶And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:

⁶⁶Phi -e-rơ đương ở dưới nơi sân, có một đầy tớ gái của thầy cả thượng phẩm đến,

⁶⁷And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

⁶⁷thấy Phi -e-rơ đương sưởi, ngó người mà rằng: ngươi trước cũng ở với Jêsus Na-xa-rét!

⁶⁸But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

⁶⁸Nhưng người chối rằng: Ta không biết, ta không hiểu ngươi nói chi. Ðoạn, người bước ra tiền đàng, thì gà gáy.

⁶⁹And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.

⁶⁹Ðầy tớ gái đó thầy người, lại nói cùng những người ở đó rằng: Người nầy cũng là bọn đó.

⁷⁰And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.

⁷⁰Nhưng người lại chối một lần nữa. Khỏi một chặp, những kẻ đứng đó nói cùng Phi -e-rơ rằng: Chắc thật, ngươi cũng là bọn đó, vì ngươi là người Ga-li-lê.

⁷¹But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

⁷¹Người bèn rủa mà thề rằng: Ta chẳng hề quen biết với người mà các ngươi nói đó!

⁷²And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

⁷²Tức thì gà gáy lần thứ hai; Phi -e-rơ bèn nhớ lại lời Ðức Chúa Jêsus đã phán rằng: Trước khi gà gáy hai lượt, ngươi sẽ chối ta ba lần. Người tưởng đến thì khóc.
