¹And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

¹Ðức Chúa Jêsus đi khỏi đó, đến quê hương mình, có các môn đồ cùng đi theo.

²And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

²Ðến ngày Sa-bát, Ngài bắt đầu dạy dỗ trong nhà hội; thiên hạ nghe Ngài, lấy làm lạ mà nói rằng: Người bởi đâu được những điều nầy? Sự khôn sáng mà người được ban cho là gì, và thể nào tay người làm được những phép lạ dường ấy?

³Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

³Có phải người là thợ mộc, con trai Ma-ri, anh em với Gia-cơ, Giô-sê, Giu-đê, và Si-môn chăng? Chị em người há chẳng phải ở giữa chúng ta đây ư? Chúng bèn vấp phạm vì cớ Ngài.

⁴But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

⁴Song Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán cùng họ rằng: Ðấng tiên tri chỉ bị quê hương mình, bà con mình và trong nhà mình khinh dể mà thôi.

⁵And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

⁵Ở đó, Ngài không làm phép lạ nào được, chỉ đặt tay chữa lành một vài người đau ốm;

⁶And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

⁶và Ngài lấy làm lạ vì chúng chẳng tin. Rồi Ngài đi khắp các làng gần đó mà giảng dạy.

⁷And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

⁷Ngài bèn kêu mười hai sứ đồ, bắt đầu sai đi từng đôi, ban quyền phép trừ tà ma.

⁸And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:

⁸Ngài truyền cho sứ đồ đi đường đừng đem chi theo hết, hoặc bánh, hoặc bao, hoặc tiền bạc trong dây lưng, chỉ đem một cây gậy mà thôi;

⁹But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

⁹chỉ mang dép, đừng mặc hai áo.

¹⁰And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.

¹⁰Ngài phán cùng sứ đồ rằng: Hễ nhà nào các ngươi sẽ vào, hãy cứ ở đó, cho đến khi đi.

¹¹And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

¹¹Nếu có chỗ nào, người ta không chịu tiếp các ngươi, và cũng không nghe các ngươi nữa, thì hãy đi khỏi đó, và phủi bụi đã dính chơn mình, để làm chứng cho họ.

¹²And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

¹²Vậy, các sứ đồ đi ra, giảng cho người ta phải ăn năn;

¹³And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

¹³đuổi ma quỉ, xức dầu cho nhiều kẻ bịnh và chữa cho được lành.

¹⁴And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

¹⁴Vả, vua Hê-rốt nghe nói về Ðức Chúa Jêsus (vì danh tiếng Ngài đã trở nên lừng lẫy), thì nói rằng: Giăng, là người làm phép báp-tem, đã từ kẻ chết sống lại; cho nên tự người làm ra các phép lạ.

¹⁵Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.

¹⁵Người thì nói: Ấy là Ê-li; kẻ thì nói: Ấy là đấng tiên tri, như một trong các đấng tiên tri đời xưa.

¹⁶But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

¹⁶Nhưng Hê-rốt nghe vậy, thì nói rằng: Ấy là Giăng mà ta đã truyền chém, người đã sống lại.

¹⁷For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.

¹⁷Số là, Hê-rốt đã sai người bắt Giăng, và truyền xiềng lại cầm trong ngục, bởi cớ Hê-đô-đia, vợ Phi-líp em vua, vì vua đã cưới nàng,

¹⁸For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.

¹⁸và Giăng có can vua rằng: Vua không nên lấy vợ em mình.

¹⁹Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:

¹⁹Nhơn đó, Hê-rô-đia căm Giăng, muốn giết đi.

²⁰For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

²⁰Nhưng không thể giết, vì Hê-rốt sợ Giăng, biết là một người công bình và thánh. Vua vẫn gìn giữ người, khi nghe lời người rồi, lòng hằng bối rối, mà vua bằng lòng nghe.

²¹And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;

²¹Nhưng, vừa gặp dịp tiện, là ngày sanh nhựt Hê-rốt, vua đãi tiệc các quan lớn trong triều, các quan võ, cùng các ngươi tôn trưởng trong xứ Ga-li-lê.

²²And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

²²Chính con gái Hê-rô-đia vào, nhảy múa, đẹp lòng Hê-rốt và các ngươi dự tiệc nữa. Vua nói cùng người con gái ấy rằng: Hãy xin ta điều chi ngươi muốn, ta sẽ cho.

²³And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

²³Vua lại thề cùng nàng rằng: Bất kỳ ngươi xin điều chi, ta cũng sẽ cho, dầu xin phân nửa nước ta cũng vậy.

²⁴And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

²⁴Nàng ra khỏi đó, nói với mẹ rằng: Tôi nên xin điều chi? Mẹ rằng: Cái đầu của Giăng Báp-tít.

²⁵And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.

²⁵Tức thì nàng vội trở vào nơi vua mà xin rằng: Tôi muốn vua lập tức cho tôi cái đầu Giăng Báp-tít để trên mâm.

²⁶And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.

²⁶Vua lấy làm buồn rầu lắm; nhưng vì cớ lời thề mình và khách dự yến, thì không muốn từ chối nàng.

²⁷And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

²⁷Vua liền sai một người lính thị vệ truyền đem đầu Giăng đến.

²⁸And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

²⁸Người ấy đi chém Giăng trong ngục; rồi để đầu trên mâm đem cho người con gái, và người con gái đem cho mẹ mình.

²⁹And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

²⁹Môn đồ Giăng nghe tin, đến lấy xác người chôn trong mả.

³⁰And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

³⁰Các sứ đồ nhóm lại cùng Ðức Chúa Jêsus, thuật cho Ngài mọi điều mình đã làm và dạy.

³¹And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

³¹Ngài phán cùng sứ đồ rằng: Hãy đi tẻ ra trong nơi vắng vẻ, nghỉ ngơi một chút. Vì có kẻ đi người lại đông lắm, đến nỗi Ngài và sứ đồ không có thì giờ mà ăn.

³²And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

³²Vậy, Ngài và sứ đồ xuống thuyền đặng đi tẻ ra trong nơi vắng vẻ.

³³And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.

³³Nhưng nhiều người thấy đi, thì nhận biết; dân chúng từ khắp các thành đều chạy bộ đến nơi Chúa cùng sứ đồ vừa đi, và đã tới đó trước.

³⁴And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

³⁴Bấy giờ Ðức Chúa Jêsus ở thuyền bước ra, thấy đoàn dân đông lắm, thì Ngài động lòng thương xót đến, vì như chiên không có người chăn; Ngài bèn khởi sự dạy dỗ họ nhiều điều.

³⁵And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:

³⁵Trời đã chiều, môn đồ tới gần Ngài mà thưa rằng: Chỗ nầy là vắng vẻ, và trời đã chiều rồi;

³⁶Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.

³⁶xin cho dân chúng về, để họ đi các nơi nhà quê và các làng gần đây đặng mua đồ ăn.

³⁷He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?

³⁷Ngài đáp rằng: Chính các ngươi phải cho họ ăn. Môn đồ thưa rằng: chúng tôi sẽ đi mua đến hai trăm đơ-ni-ê bánh để cho họ ăn hay sao?

³⁸He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.

³⁸Ngài hỏi rằng: Các ngươi có bao nhiêu bánh? Hãy đi xem thử. Môn đồ xem xét rồi, thưa rằng: Năm cái bánh và hai con cá.

³⁹And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

³⁹Ngài bèn truyền cho môn đồ biểu chúng ngồi xuống hết thảy từng chòm trên cỏ xanh.

⁴⁰And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

⁴⁰Chúng ngồi xuống từng hàng, hàng thì một trăm, hàng thì năm chục.

⁴¹And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

⁴¹Ðức Chúa Jêsus lấy năm cái bánh và hai con cá, ngước mắt lên trời, tạ ơn, rồi bẻ bánh ra mà trao cho môn đồ, đặng phát cho đoàn dân; lại cũng chia hai con cá cho họ nữa.

⁴²And they did all eat, and were filled.

⁴²Ai nấy ăn no nê rồi;

⁴³And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.

⁴³người ta lượm được mười hai giỏ đầy những miếng bánh và cá còn thừa lại.

⁴⁴And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.

⁴⁴Vả, số những kẻ đã ăn chừng năm ngàn người.

⁴⁵And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.

⁴⁵Rồi Ngài liền giục môn đồ vào thuyền, qua bờ bên kia trước mình, hướng đến thành Bết-sai-đa, trong khi Ngài cho dân chúng về.

⁴⁶And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.

⁴⁶Ngài lìa khỏi chúng rồi, thì lên núi mà cầu nguyện.

⁴⁷And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.

⁴⁷Ðến tối, chiếc thuyền đương ở giữa biển, còn Ngài thì ở một mình trên đất.

⁴⁸And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

⁴⁸Ngài thấy môn đồ chèo khó nhọc lắm, vì gió ngược. Lối canh tư đêm ấy, Ngài đi bộ trên biển mà đến cùng môn đồ; và muốn đi trước.

⁴⁹But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:

⁴⁹Môn đồ thấy Ngài đi bộ trên mặt biển ngỡ là ma, nên la lên;

⁵⁰For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

⁵⁰vì ai nấy đều thấy Ngài và sợ hoảng. nhưng Ngài liền nói chuyện với môn đồ và phán rằng: Hãy yên lòng, ta đây đừng sợ chi.

⁵¹And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.

⁵¹Ngài bèn bước lên thuyền với môn đồ, thì gió lặng. Môn đồ càng lấy làm lạ hơn nữa;

⁵²For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.

⁵²vì chẳng hiểu phép lạ về mấy cái bánh, bởi lòng cứng cỏi.

⁵³And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.

⁵³Khi Ngài và môn đồ đã qua khỏi biển, đến xứ Ghê-nê-xa-rết, thì ghé thuyền vào bờ.

⁵⁴And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,

⁵⁴Vừa ở trong thuyền bước ra, có dân chúng nhận biết Ngài,

⁵⁵And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.

⁵⁵chạy khắp cả miền đó, khiêng những người đau nằm trên giường, hễ nghe Ngài ở đâu thì đem đến đó.

⁵⁶And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.

⁵⁶Ngài đến nơi nào, hoặc làng, thành, hay chốn nhà quê, người ta đem người đau để tại các chợ, và xin Ngài cho mình ít nữa được rờ đến trôn áo Ngài; những kẻ đã rờ đều được lành bịnh cả.
