¹When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

¹Ðến sáng mai, các thầy tế lễ cả và các trưởng lão trong dân hội nghị nghịch cùng Ðức Chúa Jêsus để giết Ngài.

²And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

²Khi đã trói Ngài rồi, họ đem nộp cho Phi-lát, là quan tổng đốc.

³Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

³Khi ấy, Giu-đa, là kẻ đã phản Ngài, thấy Ngài bị án, thì ăn năn, bèn đem ba chục miếng bạc trả cho các thầy tế lễ cả và các trưởng lão,

⁴Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

⁴mà nói rằng: Tôi đã phạm tội vì nộp huyết vô tội! Song họ đáp rằng: Sự đó can gì đến chúng ta? Mặc kệ ngươi.

⁵And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

⁵Giu-đa bèn ném bạc vào đền thờ, liền trở ra, đi thắt cổ.

⁶And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

⁶Nhưng các thầy tế lễ cả lượm bạc và nói rằng: Không có phép để bạc nầy trong kho thánh, vì là giá của huyết.

⁷And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.

⁷Rồi họ bàn với nhau dùng bạc đó mua ruộng của kẻ làm đồ gốm để chôn những khách lạ.

⁸Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

⁸Nhơn đó, ruộng ấy đến nay còn gọi là "ruộng huyết."

⁹Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;

⁹Bấy giờ được ứng nghiệm lời đấng tiên tri Giê-rê-mi đã nói rằng: Họ lấy ba chục bạc, là giá của Ðấng đã bị định bởi con cái Y-sơ-ra-ên,

¹⁰And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

¹⁰và đưa bạc ấy mà mua ruộng của kẻ làm đồ gốm y như lời Chúa đã truyền cho ta.

¹¹And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

¹¹Ðức Chúa Jêsus đứng trước quan tổng đốc, quan hỏi rằng: Có phải ngươi là Vua của dân Giu-đa không? Ðức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Thật như lời.

¹²And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

¹²Trong lúc các thầy tế lễ cả và các trưởng lão kiện Ngài, Ngài không đối đáp gì hết.

¹³Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

¹³Phi-lát bèn nói cùng Ngài rằng: Họ có nhiều điều làm chứng kiện ngươi, ngươi há không nghe đến sao?

¹⁴And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

¹⁴Song Ðức Chúa Jêsus không đáp lại một lời gì, đến nỗi làm cho quan tổng đốc lấy làm lạ lắm.

¹⁵Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.

¹⁵Phàm đến ngày lễ Vượt qua, quan tổng đốc thường có lệ tha một tên tù tùy ý dân muốn.

¹⁶And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

¹⁶Ðang lúc ấy, có một tên phạm nổi tiếng, tên là Ba-ra-ba.

¹⁷Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?

¹⁷Khi chúng đã nhóm lại, thì Phi-lát hỏi rằng: Các ngươi muốn ta tha người nào, Ba-ra-ba hay là Jêsus gọi là Christ?

¹⁸For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

¹⁸Vì quan ấy biết bởi lòng ghen ghét nên chúng đã nộp Ngài.

¹⁹When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

¹⁹Quan tổng đốc đương ngồi trên tòa án, vợ người sai thưa cùng người rằng: Ðừng làm gì đến người công bình đó; vì hôm nay tôi đã bởi cớ người mà đau đớn nhiều trong chiêm bao.

²⁰But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

²⁰Song các thầy tế lễ cả và các trưởng lão dỗ chúng hãy xin tha Ba-ra-ba và giết Ðức Chúa Jêsus

²¹The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.

²¹Quan tổng đốc cất tiếng hỏi rằng: Trong hai người nầy, các ngươi muốn ta tha ai? Chúng thưa rằng: Ba-ra-ba.

²²Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

²²Phi-lát nói rằng: Vậy, còn Jêsus gọi là Christ, thì ta sẽ xử thế nào? Chúng đều trả lời rằng: Ðóng đinh nó trên cây thập tự!

²³And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

²³Quan hỏi: Song người nầy đã làm việc dữ gì? chúng lại kêu la lớn hơn rằng: Ðóng đinh nó trên cây thập tự!

²⁴When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

²⁴Phi-lát thấy mình không thắng nổi chi hết, mà sự ồn ào càng thêm, thì lấy nước rửa tay trước mặt thiên hạ, mà nói rằng: Ta không có tội về huyết của người nầy; điều đó mặc kệ các ngươi.

²⁵Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

²⁵Hết thảy dân chúng đều đáp rằng: Xin huyết người lại đổ trên chúng tôi và con cái chúng tôi!

²⁶Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

²⁶Phi-lát bèn tha tên Ba-ra-ba cho chúng; và khiến đánh đòn Ðức Chúa Jêsus, đoạn giao Ngài ra để đóng đinh trên cây thập tự.

²⁷Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.

²⁷Lính của quan tổng đốc bèn đem Ðức Chúa Jêsus vào công đường, và nhóm cả cơ binh vây lấy Ngài.

²⁸And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

²⁸Họ cổi áo Ngài ra, lấy áo điều mà khoác cho Ngài.

²⁹And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

²⁹Ðoạn, họ đương một cái mão gai mà đội trên đầu, và để một cây sậy trong tay hữu Ngài; rồi quì xuống trước mặt Ngài mà nhạo báng rằng: Lạy Vua của dân Giu-đa.

³⁰And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

³⁰Họ nhổ trên Ngài, và lấy cây sậy đánh đầu Ngài.

³¹And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

³¹Khi đã nhạo báng Ngài rồi, thì họ cổi áo điều ra mà mặc áo của Ngài lại, rồi đem Ngài đi đóng đinh trên cây thập tự.

³²And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

³²Khi họ đi ra, gặp một người ở trành Sy-ren tên là Si-môn; thì bắt người vác cây thập tự của Ðức Chúa Jêsus.

³³And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

³³Ðã đi tới một chỗ gọi là Gô-gô-tha, nghĩa là chỗ cái Sọ,

³⁴They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

³⁴họ cho Ngài uống rượu trộn với mật đắng; song Ngài nếm, thì không chịu uống.

³⁵And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

³⁵Họ đã đóng đinh Ngài trên cây thập tự rồi, thì bắt thăm mà chia nhau áo xống của Ngài.

³⁶And sitting down they watched him there;

³⁶Rồi họ ngồi đó mà canh giữ Ngài.

³⁷And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

³⁷Phía trên đầu Ngài họ để cái bảng đề chữ chỉ về án Ngài, rằng: Người Nầy Là Jêsus, Vua Dân Giu-đa.

³⁸Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

³⁸Cũng lúc đó, họ đóng đinh hai tên trộm cướp với Ngài, một tên ở cây thập tự bên hữu, một tên ở cây thập tự bên tả.

³⁹And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

³⁹Những kẻ đi ngang qua đó chê cười Ngài, lắc đầu,

⁴⁰And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

⁴⁰mà nói rằng: Ngươi là kẻ phá đền thờ và dựng lại trong ba ngày, hãy cứu lấy mình đi! Nếu ngươi là Con Ðức Chúa Trời, hãy xuống khỏi cây thập tự!

⁴¹Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,

⁴¹Các thầy tế lễ cả, các thầy thông giáo và các trưởng lão cũng nhạo Ngài rằng:

⁴²He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

⁴²Nó đã cứu kẻ khác mà cứu mình không được. Nếu phải Vua dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, bây giờ hãy xuống khỏi cây thập tự đi, thì chúng ta mới tin.

⁴³He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

⁴³Nó nhờ cậy Ðức Chúa Trời; nếu Ðức Chúa Trời yêu nó thì bây giờ Ngài phải giải cứu cho, vì nó đã nói rằng: Ta là Con Ðức Chúa Trời.

⁴⁴The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

⁴⁴Hai tên trộm cướp bị đóng đinh trên cây thập tự với Ngài cũng nhiếc móc Ngài như vậy.

⁴⁵Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

⁴⁵Từ giờ thứ sáu đến giờ thứ chín, khắp cả xứ đều tối tăm mù mịt.

⁴⁶And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

⁴⁶Ước chừng giờ thứ chín, Ðức Chúa Jêsus kêu tiếng lớn lên rằng: Ê-li, Ê-li lam-ma sa-bách-ta-ni? nghĩa là: Ðức Chúa Trời tôi ơi! Ðức Chúa Trời tôi ơi! sao Ngài lìa bỏ tôi?

⁴⁷Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

⁴⁷Có mấy người đứng đó, nghe kêu, thì nói rằng: Nó kêu Ê-li.

⁴⁸And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

⁴⁸Liền có một người trong bọn họ chạy lấy một miếng bông đá, và thấm đầy dấm, để trên đầu cây sậy mà đưa cho Ngài uống.

⁴⁹The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

⁴⁹Nhưng kẻ khác thì lại nói rằng: Hãy để vậy, coi thử có Ê-li đến giải cứu nó chăng.

⁵⁰Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

⁵⁰Ðức Chúa Jêsus lại kêu lên một tiếng lớn nữa, rồi trút linh hồn.

⁵¹And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

⁵¹Và nầy, cái màn trong đền thờ, bị xé ra làm hai từ trên chí dưới, đất thì rúng động, đá lớn bể ra,

⁵²And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

⁵²mồ mả mở ra, và nhiều thây của các thánh qua đời được sống lại.

⁵³And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

⁵³Sau khi Ðức Chúa Jêsus đã sống lại, các thánh đó ra khỏi mồ mả, đi vào thành thánh, và hiện ra cho nhiều người thấy.

⁵⁴Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

⁵⁴Thầy đội và những lính cùng với người canh giữ Ðức Chúa Jêsus, thấy đất rúng động và những điều xảy đến, thì sợ hãi lắm, mà nói rằng: Thật người nầy là Con Ðức Chúa Trời.

⁵⁵And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

⁵⁵Vả, có nhiều người đờn bà đứng coi ở đàng xa, là người đã đi theo Ðức Chúa Jêsus từ xứ Ga-li-lê để hầu việc Ngài.

⁵⁶Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children.

⁵⁶Trong những đờn bà đó có Ma-ri Ma-đơ-len, Ma-ri, mẹ của Gia-cơ và Giô-sép, và mẹ hai con trai của Xê-bê-đê.

⁵⁷When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

⁵⁷Ðến chiều tối, có một người giàu, ở thành A-ri-ma-thê, tên là Giô-sép, chính là một môn đồ của Ðức Chúa Jêsus,

⁵⁸He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

⁵⁸đến nơi Phi-lát mà xin xác Ðức Chúa Jêsus. Phi-lát bèn truyền cho.

⁵⁹And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

⁵⁹Giô-sép lấy xác Ngài mà bọc trong tấm vải liệm trắng,

⁶⁰And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

⁶⁰và đưa để trong một cái huyệt mới mà người đã khiến đục cho mình trong hòn đá; đoạn, lăn một hòn đá lớn đến trước cửa mồ, rồi đi.

⁶¹And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

⁶¹Có Ma-ri Ma-đơ-len và Ma-ri khác ở đó, ngồi đối ngang huyệt.

⁶²Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,

⁶²Ðến ngày mai (là ngày sau ngày sắm sửa), các thầy tế lễ cả và người Pha-ri-si cùng nhau đến Phi-lát

⁶³Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

⁶³mà nói rằng: Thưa Chúa, chúng tôi nhớ người gian dối nầy, khi còn sống, có nói rằng: Khỏi ba ngày thì ta sẽ sống lại.

⁶⁴Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

⁶⁴Vậy, xin hãy cắt người canh mả cẩn thận cho đến ngày thứ ba, kẻo môn đồ nó đến lấy trộm xác đi, rồi nói với chúng rằng: Ngài đã từ kẻ chết sống lại. Sự gian dối sau đó sẽ tệ hơn sự gian dối trước.

⁶⁵Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.

⁶⁵Phi-lát nói với họ rằng: Các ngươi có lính canh; hãy đi canh giữ theo ý các ngươi.

⁶⁶So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

⁶⁶Vậy, họ đi, niêm phong mả Ngài lại, cắt lính canh giữ, lấy làm chắc chắn lắm.
