¹Many teachers become not, my brethren, having known that greater judgment we shall receive,

¹ Fy nghyfeillion, peidiwch � thyrru i fod yn athrawon, oherwydd fe wyddoch y byddwn ni'r athrawon yn cael ein barnu'n llymach.

²for we all make many stumbles; if any one in word doth not stumble, this one [is] a perfect man, able to bridle also the whole body;

² Oherwydd y mae mynych lithriad yn hanes pawb ohonom. Os gall rhywun ymgadw rhag llithro yn ei ymadrodd, dyma un perffaith, �'r gallu ganddo i ffrwyno ei holl gorff hefyd.

³lo, the bits we put into the mouths of the horses for their obeying us, and their whole body we turn about;

³ Yr ydym yn rhoi'r ffrwyn yng ngenau'r march i'w wneud yn ufudd inni, ac yna gallwn droi ei gorff cyfan.

⁴lo, also the ships, being so great, and by fierce winds being driven, are led about by a very small helm, whithersoever the impulse of the helmsman doth counsel,

⁴ A llongau yr un modd; hyd yn oed os ydynt yn llongau mawr, ac yn cael eu gyrru gan wyntoedd geirwon, gellir eu troi � llyw bychan iawn i ba gyfeiriad bynnag y mae'r peilot yn ei ddymuno.

⁵so also the tongue is a little member, and doth boast greatly; lo, a little fire how much wood it doth kindle!

⁵ Felly hefyd y mae'r tafod; aelod bychan ydyw, ond y mae'n honni pethau mawr. Ystyriwch fel y mae gwreichionen fechan yn gallu rhoi coedwig fawr ar d�n.

⁶and the tongue [is] a fire, the world of the unrighteousness, so the tongue is set in our members, which is spotting our whole body, and is setting on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by the gehenna.

⁶ A th�n yw'r tafod; byd o anghyfiawnder ydyw, wedi ei osod ymhlith ein haelodau, yn halogi'r corff i gyd, ac yn rhoi holl gylch ein bodolaeth ar d�n wrth iddo ef ei hun gael ei roi ar d�n gan uffern.

⁷For every nature, both of beasts and of fowls, both of creeping things and things of the sea, is subdued, and hath been subdued, by the human nature,

⁷ Y mae'r hil ddynol yn gallu rheoli pob math o anifeiliaid ac adar, o ymlusgiaid a physgod; yn wir, y mae wedi eu rheoli.

⁸and the tongue no one of men is able to subdue, [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison,

⁸ Ond nid oes neb sy'n gallu rheoli'r tafod. Drwg diorffwys yw, yn llawn o wenwyn marwol.

⁹with it we do bless the God and Father, and with it we do curse the men made according to the similitude of God;

⁹ �'r tafod yr ydym yn bendithio'r Arglwydd a'r Tad; �'r tafod hefyd yr ydym yn melltithio'r rhai a luniwyd ar ddelw Duw.

¹⁰out of the same mouth doth come forth blessing and cursing; it doth not need, my brethren, these things so to happen;

¹⁰ o'r un genau y mae bendith a melltith yn dod. Fy nghyfeillion, nid felly y mae pethau i fod.

¹¹doth the fountain out of the same opening pour forth the sweet and the bitter?

¹¹ A welir du373?r peraidd a du373?r chwerw yn tarddu o lygad yr un ffynnon?

¹²is a fig-tree able, my brethren, olives to make? or a vine figs? so no fountain salt and sweet water [is able] to make.

¹² A yw'r pren ffigys, fy nghyfeillion, yn gallu dwyn olifiau, neu'r winwydden ffigys? Nac ydyw, ac ni ddaw du373?r peraidd o ddu373?r hallt chwaith.

¹³Who [is] wise and intelligent among you? let him shew out of the good behaviour his works in meekness of wisdom,

¹³ Pwy sy'n ddoeth a deallus yn eich plith? Gadewch i hwnnw, trwy ei ymarweddiad da, ddangos ei weithredoedd mewn gwyleidd-dra sy'n dod o ddoethineb.

¹⁴and if bitter zeal ye have, and rivalry in your heart, glory not, nor lie against the truth;

¹⁴ Ond os ydych yn coleddu eiddigedd chwerw ac uchelgais hunanol yn eich calon, peidiwch ag ymffrostio a dweud celwydd yn erbyn y gwirionedd.

¹⁵this wisdom is not descending from above, but earthly, physical, demon-like,

¹⁵ Nid dyma'r ddoethineb sy'n disgyn oddi uchod; peth daearol yw, peth bydol a chythreulig.

¹⁶for where zeal and rivalry [are], there is insurrection and every evil matter;

¹⁶ Oherwydd lle bynnag y mae cenfigen ac uchelgais hunanol, yno hefyd y mae anhrefn a phob gweithred ddrwg.

¹⁷and the wisdom from above, first, indeed, is pure, then peaceable, gentle, easily entreated, full of kindness and good fruits, uncontentious, and unhypocritical: —

¹⁷ Ond am y ddoethineb sydd oddi uchod, y mae hon yn y lle cyntaf yn bur, ac yna'n heddychol, yn dirion, yn hawdd ymwneud � hi, yn llawn o drugaredd a'i ffrwythau daionus, yn ddiragfarn ac yn ddiragrith.

¹⁸and the fruit of the righteousness in peace is sown to those making peace.

¹⁸ Y mae cynhaeaf cyfiawnder yn cael ei hau mewn heddwch i'r rhai sy'n gwneud heddwch.
