¹And these [are] the nations which Jehovah left, to try Israel by them, all who have not known all the wars of Canaan;

¹ Gadawodd yr ARGLWYDD y cenhedloedd hyn i brofi'r Israeliaid oedd heb gael unrhyw brofiad o ryfeloedd Canaan, a hynny er mwyn i genedlaethau Israel gael profiad,

²(only for the sake of the generations of the sons of Israel`s knowing, to teach them war, only those who formerly have not known them) —

² ac er mwyn dysgu'r rhai nad oedd ganddynt brofiad blaenorol sut i ryfela.

³five princes of the Philistines, and all the Canaanite, and the Zidonian, and the Hivite inhabiting mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-Hermon unto the entering in of Hamath;

³ Gadawyd pum arglwydd y Philistiaid, y Canaaneaid oll, y Sidoniaid, a'r Hefiaid oedd yn byw ar fynydd-dir Lebanon o Fynydd Baal-hermon hyd Lebo-hamath.

⁴and they are to prove Israel by them, to know whether they obey the commands of Jehovah that He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

⁴ Yr oeddent yno i'r ARGLWYDD brofi Israel drwyddynt, a chael gwybod a fyddent yn ufuddhau i'r gorchmynion a roddodd ef i'w hynafiaid trwy Moses.

⁵And the sons of Israel have dwelt in the midst of the Canaanite, the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite,

⁵ Ymgartrefodd yr Israeliaid ymysg y Canaaneaid, Hethiaid, Amoriaid, Peresiaid, Hefiaid a Jebusiaid;

⁶and take their daughters to them for wives, and their daughters have given to their sons, and they serve their gods;

⁶ a chymerasant eu merched hwy yn wragedd, a rhoi eu merched eu hunain i'w meibion hwy, ac addoli eu duwiau.

⁷and the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and forget Jehovah their God, and serve the Baalim and the shrines.

⁷ Gwnaeth yr Israeliaid yr hyn oedd ddrwg yng ngolwg yr ARGLWYDD, ac anghofio'r ARGLWYDD eu Duw ac addoli'r duwiau Baal ac Asera.

⁸And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He selleth them into the hand of Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram-Naharaim, and the sons of Israel serve Chushan-Rishathaim eight years;

⁸ Cyneuodd llid yr ARGLWYDD yn erbyn Israel a gwerthodd hwy i law Cusan-risathaim, brenin Aram-naharaim, a bu'r Israeliaid yn gwasanaethu Cusan-risathaim am wyth mlynedd.

⁹and the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth a saviour to the sons of Israel, and he saveth them — Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb`s younger brother;

⁹ Yna gwaeddodd yr Israeliaid ar yr ARGLWYDD, a chododd yr ARGLWYDD achubwr i'r Israeliaid, sef Othniel fab Cenas, brawd iau Caleb, ac fe'u gwaredodd.

¹⁰and the Spirit of Jehovah is upon him, and he judgeth Israel, and goeth out to battle, and Jehovah giveth unto his hand Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram, and strong is his hand against Chushan-Rishathaim;

¹⁰ Daeth ysbryd yr ARGLWYDD arno, a barnodd Israel a mynd allan i ryfela, a rhoddodd yr ARGLWYDD yn ei law Cusan-risathaim, brenin Aram, ac fe'i trechodd.

¹¹and the land resteth forty years. And Othniel son of Kenaz dieth,

¹¹ Yna cafodd y wlad lonydd am ddeugain mlynedd, nes i Othniel fab Cenas farw.

¹²and the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah; and Jehovah strengtheneth Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because that they have done the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah;

¹² Unwaith eto gwnaeth yr Israeliaid yr hyn oedd ddrwg yng ngolwg yr ARGLWYDD, a nerthodd ef Eglon brenin Moab yn eu herbyn am iddynt wneud yr hyn oedd ddrwg yng ngolwg yr ARGLWYDD.

¹³and he gathereth unto him the Bene-Ammon and Amalek, and goeth and smiteth Israel, and they possess the city of palms;

¹³ Casglodd Eglon yr Ammoniaid a'r Amaleciaid ato, ac ymosododd ar Israel a meddiannu Dinas y Palmwydd.

¹⁴and the sons of Israel serve Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.

¹⁴ Bu'r Israeliaid yn gwasanaethu Eglon brenin Moab am ddeunaw mlynedd.

¹⁵And the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth to them a saviour, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjamite (a man — shut of his right hand), and the sons of Israel send by his hand a present to Eglon king of Moab;

¹⁵ Yna gwaeddodd yr Israeliaid ar yr ARGLWYDD, a chododd ef achubwr iddynt, sef Ehud fab Gera, Benjaminiad a dyn llawchwith; ac anfonodd yr Israeliaid gydag ef deyrnged i Eglon brenin Moab.

¹⁶and Ehud maketh for himself a sword, and it hath two mouths (a cubit [is] its length), and he girdeth it under his long robe on his right thigh;

¹⁶ Yr oedd Ehud wedi gwneud cleddyf daufiniog, cufydd o hyd, a'i wregysu ar ei glun dde, o dan ei ddillad.

¹⁷and he bringeth near the present to Eglon king of Moab, and Eglon [is] a very fat man.

¹⁷ Cyflwynodd y deyrnged i Eglon brenin Moab, a oedd yn ddyn tew iawn.

¹⁸And it cometh to pass, when he hath finished to bring near the present, that he sendeth away the people bearing the present,

¹⁸ Ar �l gorffen cyflwyno'r deyrnged, anfonodd ymaith y bobl a fu'n cario'r deyrnged,

¹⁹and he himself hath turned back from the graven images which [are] at Gilgal, and saith, `A secret word I have unto thee, O king;` and he saith, `Hush!` and go out from him do all those standing by him.

¹⁹ ond dychwelodd Ehud ei hun oddi wrth y colofnau ger Gilgal a dweud, "Y mae gennyf neges gyfrinachol iti, O frenin."

²⁰And Ehud hath come unto him, and he is sitting in the upper chamber of the wall which he hath for himself, and Ehud saith, `A word of God I have unto thee;` and he riseth from off the throne;

²⁰ Galwodd yntau am dawelwch, ac aeth pawb oedd yn sefyll o'i gwmpas allan. Yna nesaodd Ehud ato, ac yntau'n eistedd wrtho'i hunan mewn ystafell haf oedd ganddo ar y to, a dywedodd, "Gair gan Dduw sydd gennyf iti." Cododd yntau oddi ar ei sedd.

²¹and Ehud putteth forth his left hand, and taketh the sword from off his right thigh, and striketh it into his belly;

²¹ Yna estynnodd Ehud ei law chwith, cydiodd yn y cleddyf oedd ar ei glun dde, a'i daro i fol Eglon,

²²and the haft also goeth in after the blade, and the fat shutteth on the blade, that he hath not drawn the sword out of his belly, and it goeth out at the fundament.

²² nes bod y carn yn mynd i mewn ar �l y llafn, a'r braster yn cau amdano. Ni thynnodd y cleddyf o'i fol, a daeth allan y tu cefn.

²³And Ehud goeth out at the porch, and shutteth the doors of the upper chamber upon him, and hath bolted [it];

²³ Yna aeth Ehud allan trwy'r cyntedd a chau drysau'r ystafell arno a'u cloi.

²⁴and he hath gone out, and his servants have come in, and look, and lo, the doors of the upper chamber are bolted, and they say, `He is only covering his feet in the inner chamber of the wall.`

²⁴ Wedi iddo fynd i ffwrdd, daeth gweision Eglon, ac wedi edrych a gweld drysau'r ystafell ynghlo, dywedasant, "Rhaid mai esmwyth�u ei gorff y mae yn yr ystafell haf."

²⁵And they stay till confounded, and lo, he is not opening the doors of the upper chamber, and they take the key, and open, and lo, their lord is fallen to the earth — dead.

²⁵ Wedi iddynt ddisgwyl nes bod cywilydd arnynt, ac yntau heb agor drysau'r ystafell, cymerasant allwedd a'u hagor, a dyna lle'r oedd eu meistr wedi syrthio i'r llawr yn farw.

²⁶And Ehud escaped during their tarrying, and hath passed by the images, and is escaped to Seirath.

²⁶ Yr oedd Ehud wedi dianc tra oeddent hwy'n oedi; aeth heibio i'r colofnau a dianc i Seira.

²⁷And it cometh to pass, in his coming in, that he bloweth with a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim, and go down with him do the sons of Israel from the hill-country, and he before them;

²⁷ Pan gyrhaeddodd, fe ganodd yr utgorn ym mynydd-dir Effraim, a daeth yr Israeliaid i lawr gydag ef o'r mynydd-dir, ac yntau'n eu harwain.

²⁸and he saith unto them, `Pursue after me, for Jehovah hath given your enemies, the Moabites, into your hand;` and they go down after him, and capture the passages of the Jordan towards Moab, and have not permitted a man to pass over.

²⁸ Dywedodd wrthynt, "Dilynwch fi, oherwydd y mae'r ARGLWYDD wedi rhoi eich gelyn Moab yn eich llaw." Aethant hwythau ar ei �l a dal rhydau'r Iorddonen yn erbyn Moab, a rhwystro pawb rhag croesi.

²⁹And they smite Moab at that time, about ten thousand men, all robust, and every one a man of valour, and not a man hath escaped,

²⁹ Lladdasant y pryd hwnnw tua deng mil o'r Moabiaid, pob un yn heini a grymus; ni ddihangodd neb.

³⁰and Moab is humbled in that day under the hand of Israel; and the land resteth eighty years.

³⁰ Darostyngwyd y Moabiaid y diwrnod hwnnw dan law Israel, a chafodd y wlad lonydd am bedwar ugain mlynedd.

³¹And after him hath been Shamgar son of Anath, and he smiteth the Philistines — six hundred men — with an ox-goad, and he saveth — he also — Israel.

³¹ Ar ei �l ef bu Samgar fab Anath. Lladdodd ef chwe chant o Philistiaid � swmbwl gyrru ychen. Fe waredodd yntau Israel.
