1And I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
1ભાઈઓ અને બહેનો, આપણા પૂર્વજો કે જે મૂસાને અનુસરેલા તેઓને સાથે શું બન્યું હતું, તે તમે જાણો તેમ હું ઈચ્છું છું. તેઓ બધા એક વાદળ નીચે હતા અને તેઓ દરિયો પસાર કરી ગયા.
2and all to Moses were baptized in the cloud, and in the sea;
2મૂસામાં તે બધાજ લોકો વાદળ અને દરિયામાં બાપ્તિસ્મા પામ્યા હતા.
3and all the same spiritual food did eat,
3તેઓ બધાએ એ જ આત્મિક અન્ન ખાધું હતું.
4and all the same spiritual drink did drink, for they were drinking of a spiritual rock following them, and the rock was the Christ;
4તેઓ બધાએ એક સમાન આત્મિક પીણું પીધું હતું. તેઓએ તેઓની સાથે રહેલા આત્મિક ખડકમાંથી પીણું પીધું હતું. તે ખડક ખ્રિસ્ત હતો.
5but in the most of them God was not well pleased, for they were strewn in the wilderness,
5પરંતુ દેવ મોટા ભાગના લોકોથી સંતુષ્ટ ન હતો. તેઓને રણપ્રદેશમાં મારી નાખવામાં આવ્યા.
6and those things became types of us, for our not passionately desiring evil things, as also these did desire.
6આ બાબતો જે બની તે આપણા માટે ઉદાહરણરૂપ છે. આ ઉદાહરણોએ આપણને પેલા લોકોની જેમ દુષ્ટ કામો કરવાની ઈચ્છામાંથી રોકવા જોઈએ, જે તે લોકોએ કર્યા.
7Neither become ye idolaters, as certain of them, as it hath been written, `The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play;`
7મૂર્તિઓની ઉપાસના ન કરશો જેમ પેલા લોકોએ કરેલી. એવું શાસ્ત્રલેખમાં લખેલું છે કે: “લોકો ખાવા-પીવા માટે નીચે બેઠા. લોકો નૃત્ય માટે ઊભા થયા.”
8neither may we commit whoredom, as certain of them did commit whoredom, and there fell in one day twenty-three thousand;
8આપણે વ્યભિચારના પાપો જે તેમાંના કેટલાએક લોકોએ કર્યા તે નહિ કરવા જોઈએ. તેઓના પાપોને કારણે એક જ દિવસમાં તેઓમાંના 23,000 લોકો મૃત્યુ પામ્યા.
9neither may we tempt the Christ, as also certain of them did tempt, and by the serpents did perish;
9તેઓમાંના કેટલાએકે જેમ કર્યુ તેમ આપણે પ્રભુનું પરીક્ષણ ન કરવું જોઈએ. તેઓ સર્પો દ્વારા મૃત્યુ પામ્યા કારણ કે તેઓએ પ્રભુનું પરીક્ષણ કર્યુ હતું.
10neither murmur ye, as also some of them did murmur, and did perish by the destroyer.
10અને તેઓમાંના કેટલાએક લોકોએ ફરિયાદ કરેલી તેમ ન કરો. તે લોકોને જે વિનાશકર્તા છે એવા દૂત દ્વારા તેમને મારી નાખવામાં આવેલા હતા.
11And all these things as types did happen to those persons, and they were written for our admonition, to whom the end of the ages did come,
11જે ઘટનાઓ પેલા લોકો સાથે ઘટી હતી તે ઉદાહરણરુંપ છે. અને તે બાબતો આપણા માટે ચેતવણીરૂપે લખાઈ હતી. આપણે એવા સમયગાળામાં અત્યારે રહીએ છીએ કે જ્યારે ભૂતકાળના દરેક ઈતિહાસની સમાપ્તિને આરે આવી પહોંચ્ચા છે.
12so that he who is thinking to stand — let him observe, lest he fall.
12તેથી જે વ્યક્તિ માને છે કે તે સ્થિર ઊભો રહી શકે છે તેણે નીચે પડી ન જવાય તેની સંભાળ રાખવી જોઈએ.
13No temptation hath taken you — except human; and God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able, but He will make, with the temptation, also the outlet, for your being able to bear [it].
13બધા લોકો પર જે પરીક્ષણ આવે છે તે જ પરીક્ષણો તમારા પર પણ આવે છે. પરંતુ તમે દેવમાં ભરોસો રાખી શકો છો. તમારી સહનશક્તિની સીમા બહાર તે તમને વધારે પરીક્ષણમાં પડવા દેશે નહિ. પરંતુ જ્યારે તમે પરીક્ષણમાં પડો, ત્યારે તે પરીક્ષણમાંથી છટકવા માટેનો રસ્તો પણ દેવ જ તમને બતાવશે, તેથી તમે સહન કરી શકો.
14Wherefore, my beloved, flee from the idolatry;
14તેથી મારા પ્રિય મિત્રો, મૂર્તિપૂજાથી દૂર રહો.
15as to wise men I speak — judge ye what I say:
15તમે બુદ્ધિશાળી લોકો છો એમ માનીને હું તમારી સાથે વાતચીત કરી રહ્યો છું; હું જે કઈ કહી રહ્યો છું તે તમે તમારી જાતે જ મૂલવો.
16The cup of the blessing that we bless — is it not the fellowship of the blood of the Christ? the bread that we break — is it not the fellowship of the body of the Christ?
16આશીર્વાદનો પ્યાલો કે જેને માટે આપણે આભારી છીએ, તે ખ્રિસ્તના રક્તના સહભાગી થવા માટે છે, ખરુંને? અને રોટલી કે જે આપણે તોડીએ છે તે ખ્રિસ્તના શરીરના સહભાગી થવા માટે છે, ખરુંને?
17because one bread, one body, are we the many — for we all of the one bread do partake.
17રોટલીનો ત્યાં એક જ ટુકડો છે, અને આપણે ઘણા માણસો છીએ. પરંતુ આપણે બધા તે એક રોટલીના ટુકડાને વહેંચીએ છીએ. તેથી ખરેખર તો આપણે એક શરીર જ છીએ.
18See Israel according to the flesh! are not those eating the sacrifices in the fellowship of the altar?
18ઈસ્રાએલના લોકો વિષે વિચાર કરો. એ લોકો કે જે વેદી પર ચડાવેલા યજ્ઞાર્પણો ખાય છે. તેઓ વેદીના ભાગીદાર છે, શું તેઓ આમ નથી કરતા?
19what then do I say? that an idol is anything? or that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything? —
19હું એમ કહેવા નથી માગતો કે મૂર્તિને ચડાવેલું નૈવેદ કોઈ મહત્વની વસ્તુ છે અને મૂર્તિ કઈક છે એવું તો હું જરાપણ કહેવા નથી માગતો. ના!
20[no,] but that the things that the nations sacrifice — they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not wish you to come into the fellowship of the demons.
20પરંતુ હું કહું છું કે મૂર્તિને લોકો જે વસ્તુઓનું બલિદાન ચડાવે છે તે તો ભૂતપિશાચોને ચડાવેલું બલિદાન છે, નહિ કે દેવને, અને ભૂતપિશાચો સાથે કોઈ પણ બાબતમાં તમારી ભાગીદારી હું ઈચ્છતો નથી.
21Ye are not able the cup of the Lord to drink, and the cup of demons; ye are not able of the table of the Lord to partake, and of the table of demons;
21તમે પ્રભુના પ્યાલા સાથે ભૂતપિશાચોનો પ્યાલો પી શક્તા નથી. તમે પ્રભુના તેમ જ ભૂતપિશાચોના મેજના સહભાગી થઈ શકો નહિ.
22do we arouse the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than He?
22શું આપણે પ્રભુને ઈર્ષ્યાળુ બનાવવા માગીએ છીએ? શું આપણે તેનાથી વધુ જોરાવર છીએ? ના!
23All things to me are lawful, but all things are not profitable; all things to me are lawful, but all things do not build up;
23હા, “બધી જ વસ્તુઓ મંજૂર છે.” પણ બધી જ વસ્તુઓ સારી નથી. હા. “બધી જ વસ્તુની પરવાનગી છે.” પરંતુ કેટલીક વસ્તુઓ બીજાઓને વધારે શક્તિશાળી બનવામાં ઉપયોગી થતી નથી.
24let no one seek his own — but each another`s.
24કોઈ પણ વ્યક્તિએ માત્ર તેની જાતને જ મદદરુંપ થાય તેવું કરવાનો પ્રયાસ ન કરવો જોઈએ. અન્યને મદદરુંપ થાય તેવું કરવાનો તેણે પ્રયત્ન કરવો જોઈએ.
25Whatever in the meat-market is sold eat ye, not inquiring, because of the conscience,
25જે કઈ બજારમાં માંસ વેચાતું હોય તે પ્રેરબુદ્ધિથી આત્મા કહે કે તે તમારે ખાવાને યોગ્ય હોય તો કોઈ પણ પ્રશ્ન તે માંસ વિષે પૂછયા વિના ખાઓ.
26for the Lord`s [is] the earth, and its fulness;
26તમે તે ખાઈ શકો કારણ કે, “પૃથ્વી અને પૃથ્વીની અંદરની દરેક વસ્તુ પ્રભુની છે.”
27and if any one of the unbelieving do call you, and ye wish to go, all that is set before you eat, nothing inquiring, because of the conscience;
27વ્યક્તિ કે જે વિશ્વાસી નથી તે તમને તેની સાથે જમવાનું આમંત્રણ આપે. જો તમે જવા ઈચ્છતા હો તો તમારી આગળ જે કઈ મૂકવામાં આવે તે તમે જમો. તમારા મતે અમુક વસ્તુ ખાવી યોગ્ય છે તે દર્શાવવા પ્રશ્નો ન પૂછો.
28and if any one may say to you, `This is a thing sacrificed to an idol,` — do not eat, because of that one who shewed [it], and of the conscience, for the Lord`s [is] the earth and its fulness:
28પરંતુ એક વ્યક્તિ જો તમને કહે, “કે આ ખોરાક મૂર્તિને ઘરવામાં આવેલો હતો.” તો તે ખોરાક ખાશો નહિ. તે ખાશો નહિ. શા માટે? કારણ કે તમને જે વ્યક્તિએ કહ્યું તેના વિશ્વાસને તમે આંચ પહોંચાડવા નથી માગતા. અને તે જ સમયે, લોકો માને છે કે અર્પણ કરેલું ખાવું તે ખોટું છે.
29and conscience, I say, not of thyself, but of the other, for why [is it] that my liberty is judged by another`s conscience?
29હું એમ નથી કહેતો કે તમારા મતે તે ખોટું છે. પરંતુ અન્ય વ્યક્તિ માને છે કે તે ખોટું છે. આ એક જ કારણે હું તે માંસ ન ખાઉ. મારી પોતાની સ્વતંત્રતા અન્ય વ્યક્તિ વિચારે તે રીતે મૂલવાવી ન જોઈએ.
30and if I thankfully do partake, why am I evil spoken of, for that for which I give thanks?
30હું ત્ર્ક્ષણી થઈને ભોજન જમું છું. અને તેથી જે વસ્તુ માટે હું દેવનો ત્ર્ક્ષણી છું તેના માટે હું ટીકાને પાત્ર થવા નથી માગતો.
31Whether, then, ye eat, or drink, or do anything, do all to the glory of God;
31તેથી તમે ખાઓ કે તમે પીવો કે તમે જે કઈ કરો, તે દેવના મહિમા માટે કરો.
32become offenceless, both to Jews and Greeks, and to the assembly of God;
32એવું કઈ પણ ન કરો કે જે બીજા લોકોને અનિષ્ટ કરવા માટે પ્રેરે-યહૂદિઓ, ગ્રીકો અથવા દેવની મંડળીઓ.
33as I also in all things do please all, not seeking my own profit, but that of many — that they may be saved.
33હું તેમ જ કરું છું. હું પ્રત્યેક વ્યક્તિને દરેક રીતે પ્રસન્ન કરવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરું છું. જે મારા માટે સારું છે તે કરવાનો પ્રયત્ન નથી કરતો. હું મોટા ભાગના લોકો માટે જે સારું છે તે કરવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરું છું, કે જેથી તેમનું તારણ થાય.
