¹Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, through the will of God, according to a promise of life that [is] in Christ Jesus,

¹ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્તના પ્રેરિત પાઉલ તરફથી કુશળતા હો. દેવની ઇચ્છાથી હું પ્રેરિત બન્યો છું. ખ્રિસ્ત ઈસુમાં જીવન વિષે જે વચન છે તે વિષે લોકોને જણાવવા દેવે મને મોકલ્યો છે.

²to Timotheus, beloved child: Grace, kindness, peace, from God the Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord!

²હવે તિમોથીને સંબોધન કરું છું. તું તો મારા પ્રિય પુત્ર સમાન છે. દેવ-પિતા તથા આપણા પ્રભુ ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્ત તરફથી તને કૃપા, દયા અને શાંતિ પ્રાપ્ત થાઓ.

³I am thankful to God, whom I serve from progenitors in a pure conscience, that unceasingly I have remembrance concerning thee in my supplications night and day,

³રાત-દિવસ હંમેશા મારી પ્રાર્થનાઓમાં હું તને યાદ કરું છું. એ પ્રાર્થનાઓમાં તારા માટે હું દેવની આભારસ્તુતિ કરું છું. મારા પૂર્વજો જેની સેવા કરતા હતા તે એ જ દેવ છે. હું જે જાણું છું તે સાચું છે એમ સમજી, મેં હંમેશા એ દેવની સેવા કરી છે.

⁴desiring greatly to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that with joy I may be filled,

⁴તારાં આંસુઓ સંભારતાં તને મળવાનું મને ઘણું મન થાય છે જેથી મારું હૈયું આનંદથી છલકાઇ જાય.

⁵taking remembrance of the unfeigned faith that is in thee, that dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that also in thee.

⁵તારો સાચો વિશ્વાસ પણ મને યાદ આવે છે. તારી દાદી લોઈસ અને તારી માતા યુનિકા સૌ પ્રથમ એવો જ વિશ્વાસ ધરાવતાં હતાં. હું જાણું છું કે એ જ વિશ્વાસ હવે તું ધરાવે છે.

⁶For which cause I remind thee to stir up the gift of God that is in thee through the putting on of my hands,

⁶માટે હું તને યાદ દેવડાવા ઈચ્છું છું કે, જ્યારે મેં મારા હાથો તારા માથા પર મૂક્યા, દેવે તને તે કૃપાદાન આપ્યું. જેમ એક નાની સરખી જ્યોત ધીરે ધીરે મોટા અગ્નિમાં પરિવર્તન પામે છે, તેમ દેવે તને આપેલ તે ખાસ કૃપાદાન વધુ ને વધુ ખીલે અને તું એનો ઉપયોગ કરે એમ હું ઈચ્છું છું.

⁷for God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind;

⁷કેમ કે દેવે આપણને ભયનો આત્મા નહિ, પણ સાર્મથ્યનો તથા પ્રેમનો તથા સાવધ બુધ્ધિનો આત્મા આપ્યો છે.

⁸therefore thou mayest not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but do thou suffer evil along with the good news according to the power of God,

⁸તેથી આપણા પ્રભુ ઈસુ વિષે લોકોને કહેતાં તું શરમ કે સંકોચ ન રાખીશ. અને મારા માટે પણ તારે શરમિંદા બનવાની જરૂર નથી કેમ કે હું પ્રભુને ખાતર જ કેદમાં છું. પરંતુ એ સુવાર્તાને લીધે તું પણ મારી સાથે દુ:ખ સહન કર એ સહન કરવા દેવ આપણને સાર્મથ્ય આપે જ છે.

⁹who did save us, and did call with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, that was given to us in Christ Jesus, before the times of the ages,

⁹દેવે આપણને તાર્યા છે અને આપણને તેના સંતો બનાવ્યા છે. આપણા પોતાના પ્રયત્નને કારણે એ થયું નથી. ના! તેની કૃપાને કારણે દેવે આપણને બચાવ્યા અને આપણને તેના સંતો બનાવ્યા કારણ કે એવી દેવની ઈચ્છા હતી. સમયનો પ્રારંભ થયો તે પહેલા ખ્રિસ્ત ઈસુ ધ્વારા દેવે એ કૃપા આપણને આપેલી હતી.

¹⁰and was made manifest now through the manifestation of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who indeed did abolish death, and did enlighten life and immortality through the good news,

¹⁰અત્યાર સુધી એ કૃપા આપણને પ્રગટ થઈ ન હતી. જ્યારે આપણો તારનાર ખ્રિસ્ત ઈસુ આવ્યો ત્યારે આપણને તેની કૃપા પ્રગટ થઈ. ઈસુએ મરણને નાબૂદ કર્યુ અને આપણને જીવન મેળવવાનો માર્ગ બતાવ્યો. હા! સુવાર્તા દ્ધારા ઈસુએ આપણને અવિનાશી જીવન પ્રાપ્ત કરવાનો માર્ગ દેખાડ્યો.

¹¹to which I was placed a preacher and an apostle, and a teacher of nations,

¹¹તે સુવાર્તાના પ્રચાર માટે, સુવાર્તાના પ્રેરિત તથા ઉપદેશક થવા માટે મારી પસંદગી કરવામાં આવી હતી.

¹²for which cause also these things I suffer, but I am not ashamed, for I have known in whom I have believed, and have been persuaded that he is able that which I have committed to him to guard -- to that day.

¹²અને અત્યારે હું દુ:ખ સહન કરી રહ્યો છું કેમ કે હું સુવાર્તા બધે કહેતો ફરું છું. પણ તેથી કઈ હું શરમાતો નથી. જેને મેં સ્વીકાર્યો છે તે એક (ઈસુ) ને જાણું છું. તે દિવસ આવે ત્યાં સુધી મને સોંપેલી વસ્તુઓનું રક્ષણ કરવા તે સમર્થ છે, એની મને ખાતરી છે.

¹³The pattern hold thou of sound words, which from me thou didst hear, in faith and love that [is] in Christ Jesus;

¹³મારી પાસેથી તેં જે સત્ય વચનો સાંભળ્યાં છે તેને તું અનુસર. ખ્રિસ્ત ઈસુમાં આપણને જે વિશ્વાસ અને પ્રેમ છે તેના ધ્વારા એ ઉપદેશને તું અનુસર. એ ઉપદેશ નમૂનારૂપ છે, કે જે દર્શાવે છે કે તારે કેવો ઉપદેશ આપવો જોઈએ.

¹⁴the good thing committed guard thou through the Holy Spirit that is dwelling in us;

¹⁴તને જે સત્ય મળેલ છે તેનું તું રક્ષણ કર. પવિત્ર આત્માની સહાય વડે એ વસ્તુઓને તું સંભાળી રાખ. એ પવિત્ર આત્મા આપણા અંત:કરણમાં જ વસે છે.

¹⁵thou hast known this, that they did turn from me -- all those in Asia, of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes;

¹⁵તું તો જાણે જ છે કે આસિયાના પ્રાંતના પશ્ચિમની દરેક વ્યક્તિએ મને ત્યજી દીધો છે. ફુગિલસ અને હર્મોગનેસ પણ મને છોડીને ચાલ્યા ગયા છે.

¹⁶may the Lord give kindness to the house of Onesiphorus, because many times he did refresh me, and of my chain was not ashamed,

¹⁶ઓનેસિફરસના કુટુંબ પર પ્રભુ દયા કરે એવી મારી પ્રાર્થના છે. ઓનેસિફરસે ઘણી વાર મને મદદ કરી છે. મારી કેદની સજાને કારણે તે શરમિંદો થયો ન હતો.

¹⁷but being in Rome, very diligently he sought me, and found;

¹⁷ના, તે શરમાયો ન હતો. જ્યારે તે રોમ આવ્યો ત્યારે જ્યાં સુધી હું તેને મળ્યો નહિ ત્યાં સુધી તેણે મારી ખંતપૂર્વક શોધ કરી.

¹⁸may the Lord give to him to find kindness from the Lord in that day; and how many things in Ephesus he did minister thou dost very well know.

¹⁸મારી પ્રાર્થના છે કે તે દિવસે પ્રભુ ઓનેસિફરસને દયા બતાવશે. તું તો જાણે છે જ એફેસસમાં ઓનેસિફરસે મને કઈ કઈ રીતે મદદ કરી હતી.
