1And Eliphaz the Temanite answereth and saith: —
1അതിന്നു തേമാന്യനായ എലീഫസ് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്
2Doth a wise man answer [with] vain knowledge? And fill [with] an east wind his belly?
2ജ്ഞാനിയായവന് വ്യര്ത്ഥജ്ഞാനം പ്രസ്താവിക്കുമോ? അവന് കിഴക്കന് കാറ്റുകൊണ്ടു വയറുനിറെക്കുമോ?
3To reason with a word not useful? And speeches — no profit in them?
3അവന് പ്രയോജനമില്ലാത്ത വാക്കുകളാലും ഉപകാരമില്ലാത്ത മൊഴികളാലും തര്ക്കിക്കുമോ?
4Yea, thou dost make reverence void, And dost diminish meditation before God.
4നീ ഭക്തി വെടിഞ്ഞു ദൈവസന്നിധിയിലെ ധ്യാനം മുടക്കിക്കളയുന്നു.
5For thy mouth teacheth thine iniquity, And thou chooseth the tongue of the subtile.
5നിന്റെ അകൃത്യം നിന്റെ വായെ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; ഉപായികളുടെ നാവു നീ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.
6Thy mouth declareth thee wicked, and not I, And thy lips testify against thee.
6ഞാനല്ല, നിന്റെ സ്വന്തവായ് നിന്നെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ അധരങ്ങള് തന്നേ നിന്റെ നേരെ സാക്ഷീകരിക്കുന്നു.
7The first man art thou born? And before the heights wast thou formed?
7നീയോ ആദ്യം ജനിച്ച മനുഷ്യന് ? ഗിരികള്ക്കും മുമ്പെ നീ പിറന്നുവോ?
8Of the secret counsel of God dost thou hear? And withdrawest thou unto thee wisdom?
8നീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മന്ത്രിസഭയില് കൂടീട്ടുണ്ടോ? ജഞാനത്തെ നീ കുത്തക പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവോ?
9What hast thou known, and we know not? Understandest thou — and it is not with us?
9ഞങ്ങള് അറിയാത്തതായി നീ എന്തു അറിയുന്നു? ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വശം ഇല്ലാത്തതായി എന്തൊന്നു നീ ഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു?
10Both the gray-headed And the very aged [are] among us — Greater than thy father [in] days.
10ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് നരെച്ചവരും വൃദ്ധന്മാരും ഉണ്ടു; നിന്റെ അപ്പനെക്കാള് പ്രായം ചെന്നവര് തന്നേ.
11Too few for thee are the comforts of God? And a gentle word [is] with thee,
11ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആശ്വാസങ്ങളും സ്വന്തമായി പറഞ്ഞുതരുന്ന വാക്കും നിനക്കു പോരയോ?
12What — doth thine heart take thee away? And what — are thine eyes high?
12നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം നിന്നെ പതറിക്കുന്നതെന്തു? നീ കണ്ണു ഉരുട്ടുന്നതെന്തു?
13For thou turnest against God thy spirit? And hast brought out words from thy mouth:
13നീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ചീറുകയും നിന്റെ വായില്നിന്നു മൊഴികളെ പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
14What [is] man that he is pure, And that he is righteous, one born of woman?
14മര്ത്യന് ശുദ്ധിമാനായിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ? സ്ത്രീ പ്രസവിച്ചവന് നീതിമാനായിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?
15Lo, in His holy ones He putteth no credence, And the heavens have not been pure in His eyes.
15തന്റെ വിശുദ്ധന്മാരിലും അവന്നു വിശ്വാസമില്ലല്ലോ; സ്വര്ഗ്ഗവും തൃക്കണ്ണിന്നു നിര്മ്മലമല്ല.
16Also — surely abominable and filthy Is man drinking as water perverseness.
16പിന്നെ മ്ളേച്ഛതയും വഷളത്വവുമുള്ളവനായി വെള്ളംപോലെ അകൃത്യം കുടിക്കുന്ന മനുഷ്യന് എങ്ങനെ?
17I shew thee — hearken to me — And this I have seen and declare:
17ഞാന് നിന്നെ ഉപദേശിക്കാം, കേട്ടുകൊള്ക; ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ളതു വിവരിച്ചുപറയാം.
18Which the wise declare — And have not hid — from their fathers.
18ജ്ഞാനികള് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു കേള്ക്കയും മറെച്ചുവെക്കാതെ അറിയിക്കയും ചെയ്തതു തന്നേ.
19To them alone was the land given, And a stranger passed not over into their midst:
19അവര്ക്കുംമാത്രമല്ലോ ദേശം നല്കിയിരുന്നതു; അന്യന് അവരുടെ ഇടയില് കടക്കുന്നതുമില്ല.
20`All days of the wicked he is paining himself, And few years have been laid up for the terrible one.
20ദുഷ്ടന് ജീവപര്യന്തം അതിവേദനയോടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; നിഷ്ഠൂരന്നു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ആണ്ടുകള് തികയുവോളം തന്നേ.
21A fearful voice [is] in his ears, In peace doth a destroyer come to him.
21ഘോരനാദം അവന്റെ ചെവിയില് മുഴങ്ങുന്നു; സുഖമായിരിക്കയില് കവര്ച്ചക്കാരന് അവന്റെ നേരെ വരുന്നു.
22He believeth not to return from darkness, And watched [is] he for the sword.
22അന്ധകാരത്തില്നിന്നു മടങ്ങിവരുമെന്നു അവന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നില്ല; അവന് വാളിന്നിരയായി നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
23He is wandering for bread — `Where [is] it?` He hath known that ready at his hand Is a day of darkness.
23അവന് അപ്പം തെണ്ടിനടക്കുന്നു; അതു എവിടെ കിട്ടും? അനര്ത്ഥദിവസം തനിക്കു അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവന് അറിയുന്നു.
24Terrify him do adversity and distress, They prevail over him As a king ready for a boaster.
24കഷ്ടവും വ്യാകുലവും അവനെ അരട്ടുന്നു; പടെക്കൊരുങ്ങിയ രാജാവെന്നപോലെ അവനെ ആക്രമിക്കുന്നു.
25For he stretched out against God his hand, And against the Mighty he maketh himself mighty.
25അവന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു വിരോധമായി കൈ നീട്ടി, സര്വ്വശക്തനോടു ധിക്കാരം കാട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നേ.
26He runneth unto Him with a neck, With thick bosses of his shields.
26തന്റെ പരിചകളുടെ തുടിച്ച മുഴകളോടുകൂടെ അവന് ശാഠ്യംകാണിച്ചു അവന്റെ നേരെ പാഞ്ഞുചെല്ലുന്നു.
27For he hath covered his face with his fat, And maketh vigour over [his] confidence.
27അവന് തന്റെ മുഖത്തെ മേദസ്സുകൊണ്ടു മൂടുന്നു; തന്റെ കടിപ്രദേശത്തു കൊഴുപ്പു കൂട്ടുന്നു.
28And he inhabiteth cities cut off, houses not dwelt in, That have been ready to become heaps.
28അവന് ശൂന്യനഗരങ്ങളിലും ആരും പാര്ക്കാതെ കല്കൂമ്പാരങ്ങളായിത്തീരുവാനുള്ള വീടുകളിലും പാര്ക്കുംന്നു.
29He is not rich, nor doth his wealth rise, Nor doth he stretch out on earth their continuance.
29അവന് ധനവാനാകയില്ല; അവന്റെ സമ്പത്തു നിലനില്ക്കയില്ല; അവരുടെ വിളവു നിലത്തേക്കു കുലെച്ചുമറികയുമില്ല.
30He turneth not aside from darkness, His tender branch doth a flame dry up, And he turneth aside at the breath of His mouth!
30ഇരുളില്നിന്നു അവന് തെറ്റിപ്പോകയില്ല; അഗ്നിജ്വാല അവന്റെ കൊമ്പുകളെ ഉണക്കിക്കളയും; തിരുവായിലെ ശ്വാസംകൊണ്ടു അവന് കെട്ടുപോകും.
31Let him not put credence in vanity, He hath been deceived, For vanity is his recompence.
31അവന് വ്യാജത്തില് ആശ്രയിക്കരുതു; അതു സ്വയവഞ്ചനയത്രേ; അവന്റെ പ്രതിഫലം വ്യാജം തന്നേ ആയിരിക്കും.
32Not in his day is it completed, And his bending branch is not green.
32അവന്റെ ദിവസം വരുംമുമ്പെ അതു നിവൃത്തിയാകും; അവന്റെ പനമ്പട്ട പച്ചയായിരിക്കയില്ല.
33He shaketh off as a vine his unripe fruit, And casteth off as an olive his blossom.
33മുന്തിരിവള്ളിപോലെ അവന് പിഞ്ചു ഉതിര്ക്കും; ഒലിവുവൃക്ഷംപോലെ പൂ പൊഴിക്കും.
34For the company of the profane [is] gloomy, And fire hath consumed tents of bribery.
34വഷളന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടം വന്ധ്യത പ്രാപിക്കും; കൈക്കൂലിയുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങള് തീക്കിരയാകും.
35To conceive misery, and to bear iniquity, Even their heart doth prepare deceit.
35അവര് കഷ്ടത്തെ ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു അനര്ത്ഥത്തെ പ്രസവിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ ഉദരം വഞ്ചനയെ ഉരുവാക്കുന്നു.
