1And Jephthah the Gileadite hath been a mighty man of valour, and he [is] son of a woman, a harlot; and Gilead begetteth Jephthah,
1ഗിലെയാദ്യനായ യിഫ്താഹ് പരാക്രമശാലി എങ്കിലും വേശ്യാപുത്രന് ആയിരുന്നു; യിഫ്താഹിന്റെ ജനകനോ ഗിലെയാദ് ആയിരുന്നു.
2and the wife of Gilead beareth to him sons, and the wife`s sons grow up and cast out Jephthah, and say to him, `Thou dost not inherit in the house of our father; for son of another woman [art] thou.`
2ഗിലെയാദിന്റെ ഭാര്യയും അവന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര് വളര്ന്നശേഷം അവര് യിഫ്താഹിനോടുനീ ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതൃഭവനത്തില് അവകാശം പ്രാപിക്കയില്ല; നീ പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ മകനല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.
3And Jephthah fleeth from the face of his brethren, and dwelleth in the land of Tob; and vain men gather themselves together unto Jephthah, and they go out with him.
3അങ്ങനെ യിഫ്താഹ് തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ വിട്ടു തോബ് ദേശത്തു ചെന്നു പാര്ത്തു; നിസ്സാരന്മാരായ ചിലര് യിഫ്താഹിനോടു ചേര്ന്നു അവനുമായി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു.
4And it cometh to pass, after a time, that the Bene-Ammon fight with Israel,
4കുറെക്കാലം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അമ്മോന്യര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു.
5and it cometh to pass, when the Bene-Ammon have fought with Israel, that the elders of Gilead go to take Jephthah from the land of Tob;
5അമ്മോന്യര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധം തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് ഗിലെയാദിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് യിഫ്താഹിനെ തോബ് ദേശത്തുനിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് ചെന്നു.
6and they say unto Jephthah, `Come, and thou hast been to us for captain, and we fight against the Bene-Ammon.`
6അവര് യിഫ്താഹിനോടുഅമ്മോന്യരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ വന്നു ഞങ്ങളുടെ സേനാപതിയായിരിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
7And Jephthah saith to the elders of Gilead, `Have not ye hated me? and ye cast me out from the house of my father, and wherefore have ye come unto me now when ye are in distress?`
7യിഫ്താഹ് ഗിലെയാദ്യരോടുനിങ്ങള് എന്നെ പകെച്ചു പിതൃഭവനത്തില് നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ലയോ? ഇപ്പോള് നിങ്ങള് കഷ്ടത്തില് ആയ സമയം എന്റെ അടുക്കല് എന്തിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
8and the elders of Gilead say unto Jephthah, `Therefore, now, we have turned back unto thee; and thou hast gone with us, and fought against the Bene-Ammon, and thou hast been to us for head — to all the inhabitants of Gilead.`
8ഗിലെയാദിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് യിഫ്താഹിനോടുനീ ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വന്നു അമ്മോന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്കയും ഗിലെയാദിലെ സകല നിവാസികള്ക്കും തലവനായിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങള് ഇപ്പോള് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഇങ്ങോട്ടു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
9And Jephthah saith unto the elders of Gilead, `If ye are taking me back to fight against the Bene-Ammon, and Jehovah hath given them before me — I, am I to you for a head?`
9യിഫ്താഹ് ഗിലെയാദിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാരോടുഅമ്മോന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്വാന് നിങ്ങള് എന്നെ കൊണ്ടുപോയിട്ടു യഹോവ അവരെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചാല് നിങ്ങള് എന്നെ തലവനാക്കുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
10And the elders of Gilead say unto Jephthah, `Jehovah is hearkening between us — if according to thy word we do not so.`
10ഗിലെയാദിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് യിഫ്താഹിനോടുയഹോവ നമ്മുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ സാക്ഷി; നീ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ഞങ്ങള് ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
11And Jephthah goeth with the elders of Gilead, and the people set him over them for head and for captain, and Jephthah speaketh all his words before Jehovah in Mizpeh.
11അങ്ങനെ യിഫ്താഹ് ഗിലെയാദിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാരോടുകൂടെ പോയി; ജനം അവനെ തലവനും സേനാപതിയുമാക്കി; യിഫ്താഹ് മിസ്പയില്വെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് തന്റെ കാര്യമെല്ലാം പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു.
12And Jephthah sendeth messengers unto the king of the Bene-Ammon, saying, `What — to me and to thee, that thou hast come in unto me, to fight in my land.`
12അനന്തരം യിഫ്താഹ് അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുനീ എന്നോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്വാന് എന്റെ ദേശത്തു വരേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടു നിനക്കെന്തു കാര്യം എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.
13And the king of the Bene-Ammon saith unto the messengers of Jephthah, `Because Israel took my land in his coming up out of Egypt, from Arnon, and unto the Jabbok, and unto the Jordan; and now, restore them in peace.`
13അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവു യിഫ്താഹിന്റെ ദൂതന്മാരോടുയിസ്രായേല് മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നപ്പോള് അവര് അര്ന്നോന് മുതല് യബ്ബോക്വരെയും യോര്ദ്ദാന് വരെയും ഉള്ള എന്റെ ദേശം അടക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നേ; ഇപ്പോള് ആ ദേശങ്ങളെ സമാധാനത്തോടെ മടക്കിത്തരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
14And Jephthah addeth yet and sendeth messengers unto the king of the Bene-Ammon,
14യിഫ്താഹ് പിന്നെയും അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു,
15and saith to him, `Thus said Jephthah, Israel took not the land of Moab, and the land of the Bene-Ammon,
15അവനോടു പറയിച്ചതെന്തെന്നാല്യിഫ്താഹ് ഇപ്രകാരം പറയുന്നു;
16for in their coming up out of Egypt, Israel goeth in the wilderness unto the Red Sea, and cometh in to Kadesh,
16യിസ്രായേല് മോവാബ് ദേശമോ അമ്മോന്യരുടെ ദേശമോ അടക്കീട്ടില്ല. യിസ്രായേല് മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു മരുഭൂമിയില്കൂടി ചെങ്കടല്വരെ സഞ്ചരിച്ചു കാദേശില് എത്തി.
17and Israel sendeth messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me pass over, I pray thee, through thy land, and the king of Edom hearkened not; and also unto the king of Moab hath [Israel] sent, and he hath not been willing; and Israel abideth in Kadesh,
17യിസ്രായേല് എദോം രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുഞാന് നിന്റെ ദേശത്തുകൂടി കടന്നുപോകുവാന് അനുവാദം തരേണമെന്നു പറയിച്ചു എങ്കിലും എദോംരാജാവു കേട്ടില്ല; മോവാബ് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കലും അവര് പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു, അവനും സമ്മതിച്ചില്ല; അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല് കാദേശില് പാര്ത്തു.
18and he goeth through the wilderness, and compasseth the land of Edom and the land of Moab, and cometh in at the rising of the sun of the land of Moab, and they encamp beyond Arnon, and have not come into the border of Moab, for Arnon [is] the border of Moab.
18അവര് മരുഭൂമിയില്കൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു എദോംദേശവും മോവാബ്ദേശവും ചുറ്റിച്ചെന്നു മോവാബ് ദേശത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കു എത്തി അര്ന്നോന്നക്കരെ പാളയമിറങ്ങി; അര്ന്നോന് മോവാബിന്റെ അതിരായിരുന്നു. മോവാബിന്റെ അതിര്ക്കകത്തു അവര് കടന്നില്ല.
19`And Israel sendeth messengers unto Sihon, king of the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and Israel saith to him, Let us pass over, we pray thee, through thy land, unto my place,
19പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല് ഹെശ്ബോനില് വാണിരുന്ന അമോര്യ്യരാജാവായ സീഹോന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുനിന്റെ ദേശത്തുകൂടി എന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു കടന്നുപോകുവാന് അനുവാദം തരേണമെന്നു പറയിച്ചു.
20and Sihon hath not trusted Israel to pass over through his border, and Sihon gathereth all his people, and they encamp in Jahaz, and fight with Israel;
20എങ്കിലും സീഹോന് യിസ്രായേല് തന്റെ ദേശത്തുകൂടി കടന്നുപോകുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം അവരെ വിശ്വസിക്കാതെ തന്റെ ജനത്തെ ഒക്കെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി, യഹസില് പാളയമിറങ്ങി യിസ്രായേലിനോടു പടയേറ്റു.
21and Jehovah, God of Israel, giveth Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smite them, and Israel possesseth all the land of the Amorite, the inhabitant of that land,
21യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ സീഹോനെയും അവന്റെ സകലജനത്തെയും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവര് അവരെ തോല്പിച്ചു; ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല് ആദേശനിവാസികളായ അമോര്യ്യരുടെ ദേശം ഒക്കെയും കൈവശമാക്കി.
22and they possess all the border of the Amorite from Arnon, and unto the Jabbok, and from the wilderness, and unto the Jordan.
22അര്ന്നോന് മുതല് യബ്ബോക്വരെയും മരുഭൂമിയില് യോര്ദ്ദാന് വരെയുമുള്ള അമോര്യ്യരുടെ ദേശം ഒക്കെയും അവര് പിടിച്ചടക്കി.
23`And now, Jehovah, God of Israel, hath dispossessed the Amorite from the presence of His people Israel, and thou wouldst possess it!
23യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ തന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു അമോര്യ്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കെ നീ അവരുടെ അവകാശം അടക്കുവാന് പോകുന്നുവോ?
24That which Chemosh thy god causeth thee to possess — dost thou not possess it? and all that which Jehovah our God hath dispossessed from our presence, — it we do possess.
24നിന്റെ ദേവനായ കെമോശ് നിനക്കു അവകാശമായി തരുന്ന ദേശത്തെ നീ അടക്കി അനുഭവിക്കയില്ലയോ? അങ്ങനെ തന്നെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഞങ്ങളുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളയുന്നവരുടെ അവകാശം ഞങ്ങളും അടക്കി അനുഭവിക്കും.
25`And now, [art] thou at all better than Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he at all strive with Israel? did he at all fight against them?
25സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക് എന്ന മോവാബ് രാജാവിനെക്കാളും നീ യോഗ്യനോ? അവന് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു എപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും വാഗ്വാദം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടോ? എപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും അവരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടോ?
26In Israel`s dwelling in Heshbon and in its towns, and in Aroer and in its towns, and in all the cities which [are] by the sides of Arnon three hundred years — and wherefore have ye not delivered them in that time?
26യിസ്രായേല് ഹെശ്ബോനിലും അതിന്റെ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലും അരോവേരിലും അതിന്റെ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലും അര്ന്നോന് തീരത്തുള്ള എല്ലാപട്ടണങ്ങളിലും മുന്നൂറു സംവത്സരത്തോളം പാര്ത്തിരിക്കെ ആ കാലത്തിന്നിടയില് നിങ്ങള് അവയെ ഒഴിപ്പിക്കാതിരുന്നതു എന്തു?
27And I — I have not sinned against thee, and thou art doing with me evil — to fight against me. Jehovah, the Judge, doth judge to-day between the sons of Israel and the sons of Ammon.`
27ആകയാല് ഞാന് നിന്നോടു അന്യായം ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല; എന്നോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുന്നതിനാല് നീ എന്നോടാകുന്നു അന്യായം ചെയ്യുന്നതു; ന്യായാധിപനായ യഹോവ ഇന്നു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളുടെയും അമ്മോന്യരുടെയും മദ്ധ്യേ ന്യായം വിധിക്കട്ടെ.
28And the king of the Bene-Ammon hath not hearkened unto the words of Jephthah which he sent unto him,
28എന്നാല് യിഫ്താഹ് പറഞ്ഞയച്ച വാക്കു അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവു കൂട്ടാക്കിയില്ല.
29and the Spirit of Jehovah is on Jephthah, and he passeth over Gilead and Manasseh, and passeth over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he hath passed over to the Bene-Ammon.
29അപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു യിഫ്താഹിന് മേല് വന്നു; അവന് ഗിലെയാദിലും മനശ്ശെയിലും കൂടി കടന്നു ഗിലെയാദിലെ മിസ്പയില് എത്തി ഗിലെയാദിലെ മിസ്പയില്നിന്നു അമ്മോന്യരുടെ നേരെ ചെന്നു.
30And Jephthah voweth a vow to Jehovah, and saith, `If Thou dost at all give the Bene-Ammon into my hand —
30യിഫ്താഹ് യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു നേര്ച്ച നേര്ന്നു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ അമ്മോന്യരെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കുമെങ്കില്
31then it hath been, that which at all cometh out from the doors of my house to meet me in my turning back in peace from the Bene-Ammon — it hath been to Jehovah, or I have offered up for it — a burnt-offering.`
31ഞാന് അമ്മോന്യരെ ജയിച്ചു സമാധാനത്തോടെ മടങ്ങിവരുമ്പോള് എന്റെ വീട്ടുവാതില്ക്കല്നിന്നു എന്നെ എതിരേറ്റുവരുന്നതു യഹോവേക്കുള്ളതാകും; അതു ഞാന് ഹോമയാഗമായി അര്പ്പിക്കും.
32And Jephthah passeth over unto the Bene-Ammon to fight against them, and Jehovah giveth them into his hand,
32ഇങ്ങനെ യിഫ്താഹ് അമ്മോന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്വാന് അവരുടെ നേരെ ചെന്നു; യഹോവ അവരെ അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.
33and he smiteth them from Aroer, and unto thy going in to Minnith, twenty cities, and unto the meadow of the vineyards — a very great smiting; and the Bene-Ammon are humbled at the presence of the sons of Israel.
33അവന് അവര്ക്കും അരോവേര്മുതല് മിന്നീത്ത്വരെയും ആബേല്-കെരാമീംവരെയും ഒരു മഹാസംഹാരം വരുത്തി, ഇരുപതു പട്ടണം ജയിച്ചടക്കി.
34And Jephthah cometh into Mizpeh, unto his house, and lo, his daughter is coming out to meet him with timbrels, and with choruses, and save her alone, he hath none, son or daughter.
34എന്നാല് യിഫ്താഹ് മിസ്പയില് തന്റെ വീട്ടിലകൂ ചെല്ലുമ്പോള് ഇതാ, അവന്റെ മകള് തപ്പോടും നൃത്തത്തോടുംകൂടെ അവനെ എതിരേറ്റുവരുന്നു; അവള് അവന്നു ഏകപുത്രി ആയിരുന്നു; അവളല്ലാതെ അവന്നു മകനുമില്ല മകളുമില്ല.
35And it cometh to pass, when he seeth her, that he rendeth his garments, and saith, `Alas, my daughter, thou hast caused me greatly to bend, and thou hast been among those troubling me; and I — I have opened my mouth unto Jehovah, and I am not able to turn back.`
35അവളെ കണ്ടയുടനെ അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം കീറിഅയ്യോ എന്റെ മകളേ, നീ എന്റെ തല കുനിയിച്ചു, നീ എന്നെ വ്യസനിപ്പിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ആക്കിയല്ലോ; യഹോവയോടു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞുപോയി; എനിക്കു പിന്മാറിക്കൂടാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
36And she saith unto him, `My father — thou hast opened thy mouth unto Jehovah, do to me as it hath gone out from thy mouth, after that Jehovah hath done for thee vengeance on thine enemies, on the Bene-Ammon.`
36അവള് അവനോടുഅപ്പാ, നീ യഹോവയോടു പറഞ്ഞുപോയിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കില് യഹോവ നിനക്കുവേണ്ടി നിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളായ അമ്മോന്യരോടു പ്രതികാരം നടത്തിയിരിക്കയാല് നിന്റെ വായില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടതുപോലെ എന്നോടു ചെയ്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
37And she saith unto her father, `Let this thing be done to me; desist from me two months, and I go on, and have gone down on the hills, and I weep for my virginity — I and my friends.`
37എന്നാല് ഒരു കാര്യം എനിക്കു വേണ്ടിയിരുന്നു; ഞാന് പര്വ്വതങ്ങളില് ചെന്നു എന്റെ സഖിമാരുമായി എന്റെ കന്യാത്വത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു വിലാപം കഴിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എനിക്കു രണ്ടു മാസത്തെ അവധി തരേണം എന്നു അവള് തന്റെ അപ്പനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.
38And he saith, `Go;` and he sendeth her away two months, and she goeth, she and her friends, and she weepeth for her virginity on the hills;
38അതിന്നു അവന് പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവളെ രണ്ടു മാസത്തേക്കു അയച്ചു; അവള് തന്റെ സഖിമാരുമായി ചെന്നു തന്റെ കന്യാത്വത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു പര്വ്വതങ്ങളില് വിലാപംകഴിച്ചു.
39and it cometh to pass at the end of two months that she turneth back unto her father, and he doth to her his vow which he hath vowed, and she knew not a man; and it is a statute in Israel:
39രണ്ടു മാസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവള് തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു മടങ്ങിവന്നു; അവന് നേര്ന്നിരുന്ന നേര്ച്ചപോലെ അവളോടു ചെയ്തു; അവള് ഒരു പുരുഷനെ അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നതുമില്ല.
40from time to time the daughters of Israel go to talk to the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite, four days in a year.
40പിന്നെ ആണ്ടുതോറും യിസ്രായേലിലെ കന്യകമാര് നാലു ദിവസം ഗിലെയാദ്യനായ യിഫ്താഹിന്റെ മകളെ കീര്ത്തിപ്പാന് പോകുന്നതു യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരു ആചാരമായ്തീര്ന്നു.
