1A name is chosen rather than much wealth, Than silver and than gold — good grace.
1അനവധിസമ്പത്തിലും സല്കീര്ത്തിയും വെള്ളിയിലും പൊന്നിലും കൃപയും നല്ലതു.
2Rich and poor have met together, The Maker of them all [is] Jehovah.
2ധനവാനും ദരിദ്രനും തമ്മില് കാണുന്നു; അവരെ ഒക്കെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയവന് യഹോവ തന്നേ.
3The prudent hath seen the evil, and is hidden, And the simple have passed on, and are punished.
3വിവേകമുള്ളവന് അനര്ത്ഥം കണ്ടു ഒളിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു; അല്പബുദ്ധികളോ നേരെ ചെന്നു ചേതപ്പെടുന്നു.
4The end of humility [is] the fear of Jehovah, Riches, and honour, and life.
4താഴ്മെക്കും യഹോവഭക്തിക്കും ഉള്ള പ്രതിഫലം ധനവും മാനവും ജീവനും ആകുന്നു.
5Thorns — snares [are] in the way of the perverse, Whoso is keeping his soul is far from them.
5വക്രന്റെ വഴിയില് മുള്ളും കുടുക്കും ഉണ്ടു; തന്റെ പ്രാണനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന് അവയോടു അകന്നിരിക്കട്ടെ.
6Give instruction to a youth about his way, Even when he is old he turneth not from it.
6ബാലന് നടക്കേണ്ടുന്ന വഴിയില് അവനെ അഭ്യസിപ്പിക്ക; അവന് വൃദ്ധനായാലും അതു വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.
7The rich over the poor ruleth, And a servant [is] the borrower to the lender.
7ധനവാന് ദരിദ്രന്മാരെ ഭരിക്കുന്നു; കടം മേടിക്കുന്നവന് കടം കൊടുക്കുന്നവന്നു ദാസന് .
8Whoso is sowing perverseness reapeth sorrow, And the rod of his anger weareth out.
8നീതികേടു വിതെക്കുന്നവന് ആപത്തു കൊയ്യും; അവന്റെ കോപത്തിന്റെ വടി ഇല്ലാതെയാകും.
9The good of eye — he is blessed, For he hath given of his bread to the poor.
9ദയാകടാക്ഷമുള്ളവന് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെടും; അവന് തന്റെ ആഹാരത്തില്നിന്നു അഗതിക്കു കൊടുക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.
10Cast out a scorner — and contention goeth out, And strife and shame cease.
10പരിഹാസിയെ നീക്കിക്കളക; അപ്പോള് പിണക്കം പോയ്ക്കൊള്ളും; കലഹവും നിന്ദയും നിന്നുപോകും.
11Whoso is loving cleanness of heart, Grace [are] his lips, a king [is] his friend.
11ഹൃദയശുദ്ധി ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവന്നു അധരലാവണ്യം ഉണ്ടു; രാജാവു അവന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന് .
12The eyes of Jehovah have kept knowledge, And He overthroweth the words of the treacherous.
12യഹോവയുടെ കണ്ണു പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവനെ കാക്കുന്നു; ദ്രോഹികളുടെ വാക്കോ അവന് മറിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.
13The slothful hath said, `A lion [is] without, In the midst of the broad places I am slain.`
13വെളിയില് സിംഹം ഉണ്ടു, വീഥിയില് എനിക്കു ജീവഹാനി വരും എന്നു മടിയന് പറയുന്നു.
14A deep pit [is] the mouth of strange women, The abhorred of Jehovah falleth there.
14പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ വായ് ആഴമുള്ള കുഴി ആകുന്നു; യഹോവയാല് ത്യജിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് അതില് വീഴും.
15Folly is bound up in the heart of a youth, The rod of chastisement putteth it far from him.
15ബാലന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തോടു ഭോഷത്വം പറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ശിക്ഷെക്കുള്ള വടി അതിനെ അവനില് നിന്നു അകറ്റിക്കളയും.
16He is oppressing the poor to multiply to him, He is giving to the rich — only to want.
16ആദായം ഉണ്ടാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എളിയവനെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നവനും ധനവാന്നു കൊടുക്കുന്നവനും മുട്ടുള്ളവനായ്തീരും.
17Incline thine ear, and hear words of the wise, And thy heart set to my knowledge,
17ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ ചെവിചായിച്ചു കേള്ക്കുക; എന്റെ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്നു മനസ്സുവെക്കുക.
18For they are pleasant when thou dost keep them in thy heart, They are prepared together for thy lips.
18അവയെ നിന്റെ ഉള്ളില് സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നതും നിന്റെ അധരങ്ങളില് അവ ഒക്കെയും ഉറെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതും മനോഹരം.
19That thy trust may be in Jehovah, I caused thee to know to-day, even thou.
19നിന്റെ ആശ്രയം യഹോവയില് ആയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് ഇന്നു നിന്നോടു, നിന്നോടു തന്നേ, ഉപദേശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
20Have I not written to thee three times With counsels and knowledge?
20നിന്നെ അയച്ചവര്ക്കും നീ നേരുള്ള മറുപടി കൊണ്ടുപോകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിനക്കു നേരുള്ള മറുപടിയുടെ നിശ്ചയം അറിയിച്ചുതരുവാന്
21To cause thee to know the certainty of sayings of truth, To return sayings of truth to those sending thee.
21ആലോചനയും പരിജ്ഞാനവും അടങ്ങിയ സാരസംഗതികളെ ഞാന് നിനക്കു എഴുതീട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
22Rob not the poor because he [is] poor, And bruise not the afflicted in the gate.
22എളിയവനോടു അവന് എളിയവനാകകൊണ്ടു കവര്ച്ച ചെയ്യരുതു; അരിഷ്ടനെ പടിവാതില്ക്കല്വെച്ചു പീഡിപ്പിക്കയും അരുതു.
23For Jehovah pleadeth their cause, And hath spoiled the soul of their spoilers.
23യഹോവ അവരുടെ വ്യവഹാരം നടത്തും; അവരെ കൊള്ളയിട്ടവരുടെ ജീവനെ കൊള്ളയിടും.
24Shew not thyself friendly with an angry man, And with a man of fury go not in,
24കോപശീലനോടു സഖിത്വമരുതു; ക്രോധമുള്ള മനുഷ്യനോടുകൂടെ നടക്കയും അരുതു.
25Lest thou learn his paths, And have received a snare to thy soul.
25നീ അവന്റെ വഴികളെ പഠിപ്പാനും നിന്റെ പ്രാണന് കണിയില് അകപ്പെടുവാനും സംഗതി വരരുതു.
26Be not thou among those striking hands, Among sureties [for] burdens.
26നീ കയ്യടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും കടത്തിന്നു ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും ആയ്പോകരുതു.
27If thou hast nothing to pay, Why doth he take thy bed from under thee?
27വീട്ടുവാന് നിനക്കു വകയില്ലാതെ വന്നിട്ടു നിന്റെ കീഴില്നിന്നു നിന്റെ മെത്ത എടുത്തുകളവാന് ഇടവരുത്തുന്നതു എന്തിനു?
28Remove not a border of olden times, That thy fathers have made.
28നിന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാര് ഇട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന പണ്ടത്തെ അതിര് നീ മാറ്റരുതു.
29Hast thou seen a man speedy in his business? Before kings he doth station himself, He stations not himself before obscure men!
29പ്രവൃത്തിയില് സാമര്ത്ഥ്യമുള്ള പുരുഷനെ നീ കാണുന്നുവോ? അവന് രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ മുമ്പില് നിലക്കും; നീചന്മാരുടെ മുമ്പില് അവന് നില്ക്കയില്ല.
