1And Samuel saith unto Saul, `Me did Jehovah send to anoint thee for king over His people, over Israel; and now, hearken to the voice of the words of Jehovah:
1एक दिवस शमुवेल शौलला म्हणाला, “इस्राएलचा राजा म्हणून तुला राज्याभिषेक करायला परमेश्वराने मला पाठवले. आता परमेश्वर काय म्हणतो ते ऐक.
2`Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, I have looked after that which Amalek did to Israel, that which he laid for him in the way in his going up out of Egypt.
2सर्व शक्तिमान परमेश्वराचे म्हणणे आहे. “इस्राएल लोक मिसर मधून बाहेर पडले तेव्हा अमालेकींनी त्यांना कनानच्या वाटेवर अडवले. अमालेक्यांचे हे कृत्य मी पाहिले आहे.
3Now, go, and thou hast smitten Amalek, and devoted all that it hath, and thou hast no pity on it, and hast put to death from man unto woman, from infant unto suckling, from ox unto sheep, from camel unto ass.`
3तेव्हा आता त्यांच्याशी जाऊन लढ. त्यांचा आणि त्यांच्या मालमत्तेचा पूर्णपणे बीमोड कर. काहीही शिल्लक ठेवू नकोस. पुरुष, बायका, मुले, अगदी तान्ही बाळेसुध्दा मारुन टाक. त्याची गुरे, मेंढरे, उंट, गाढवे या सर्वाचा संहार कर.”
4And Saul summoneth the people, and inspecteth them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand [are] men of Judah.
4तलाईम येथे शौलाने सर्व सैन्याची जमवाजमव केली. दोन लाखांचे पायदळ आणि यहूदातील दहा हजार माणसे त्यात होती.
5And Saul cometh in unto a city of Amalek, and layeth wait in a valley;
5मग शौल अमालेक नगरापाशी जाऊन एका खोऱ्यात दबा धरुन बसला.
6and Saul saith unto the Kenite, `Go, turn aside, go down from the midst of Amalek, lest I consume thee with it, and thou didst kindness with all the sons of Israel, in their going up out of Egypt;` and the Kenite turneth aside from the midst of Amalek.
6केनी लोकांना तो म्हणाला, “तुम्ही अमालेक्यांची संगत सोडून दूर निघून जा. म्हणजे मग आम्ही अमलेक्यांच्या बरोबर तुमचा नाश करणार नाही. कारण मिसरमधून इस्राएल बाहेर पडले तेव्हा तुम्ही त्यांच्याशी प्रेमाने वागला होता.” तेव्हा केनी लोक अमालेक्यांना सोडून निघून गेले.
7And Saul smiteth Amalek from Havilah — thy going in to Shur, which [is] on the front of Egypt,
7शौलने अमालेक्यांचा पराभव केला. हवीलापासून मिसरच्या हद्दीजवळच्या शूरपर्यंत त्याने अमालेक्यांचा पाठलाग केला.
8and he catcheth Agag king of Amalek alive, and all the people he hath devoted by the mouth of the sword;
8अगाग हा अमालेक्यांचा राजा होता. त्याला शौलने ताब्यात घेतले. त्याला जिवंत ठेवून बाकी अमालेकी लोकांना त्याने कापून आणले.
9and Saul hath pity — also the people — on Agag, and on the best of the flock, and of the herd, and of the seconds, and on the lambs, and on all that [is] good, and have not been willing to devote them; and all the work, despised and wasted — it they devoted.
9सर्वच गोष्टींचा संहार करायचे शौलच्या आणि त्याच्या सैन्याच्या जिवावर आले. म्हणून त्यांनी अगागला जिवंत ठेवले. तसेच धष्टपुष्ट गुरे. उत्तम मेंढरे, कोकरे आणि काही चांगल्या ठेवण्यायोग्य गोष्टी त्यांनी ठेवल्या. जे टाकाऊ आणि कुचकामी त्याचा नाश केला.
10And the word of Jehovah is unto Samuel, saying,
10यानंतर शमुवेलला परमेश्वरा कडून संदेश आला.
11`I have repented that I caused Saul to reign for king, for he hath turned back from after Me, and My words he hath not performed;` and it is displeasing to Samuel, and he crieth unto Jehovah all the night.
11परमेश्वर त्याला म्हणाला, “शौला आता मला अनुसरत नाही. त्याला राजा केले याचे मला दु:ख होते. माझ्या सांगण्याप्रमाणे तो आता वागत नाही. शमुवेलला हे ऐकून फार खेद वाटला. रात्रभर त्याने अश्रू ढाळत परमेश्वराची प्रार्थना केली.
12And Samuel riseth early to meet Saul in the morning, and it is declared to Samuel, saying, `Saul hath come in to Carmel, and lo, he is setting up to himself a monument, and goeth round, and passeth over, and goeth down to Gilgal.`
12दुसऱ्या दिवशी पहाटे लवकर उठून तो शौलला भेटायला गेला. पण तिथे गेल्यावर त्याला कळले की शौल यहूदातील कर्मेल येथे गेला आहे. तिथे स्वत:च्या सन्मानार्थ एक दगडी स्तंभ उभारुन अनेक गावे फिरुन तो गिलगाल येथे येणार आहे. तेव्हा शौल होता त्या ठिकाणी शमुवेल गेला. तिथे अमालेक्याच्या लुटीतील पहिला भाग परमेश्वरासाठी शौलने नुकताच यज्ञात अर्पण केला होता.
13And Samuel cometh in unto Saul, and Saul saith to him, `Blessed [art] thou of Jehovah; I have performed the word of Jehovah.`
13शमुवेल शौलजवळ पोचला तेव्हा शौलने त्याला अभिवादन केले. तो म्हणाला, “परमेश्वर तुमचे कल्याण करो. मी परमेश्वराच्या आज्ञेत आहे.”
14And Samuel saith, `And what [is] the noise of this flock in mine ears — and the noise of the herd which I am hearing?`
14तेव्हा शमुवेल म्हणाला, “मग मला हा कसला आवाज ऐकायला येत आहे? शेरडामेंढरांचे केकारणे आणि गुरांचे हंबरणे याचा अर्थ काय?”
15And Saul saith, `From Amalek they have brought them, because the people had pity on the best of the flock, and of the herd, in order to sacrifice to Jehovah thy God, and the remnant we have devoted.`
15शौल म्हणाला, “सैनिकांनी ती गुरे अमाले क्यांकडून लुटीत आणली आहेत. प्रभु परमेश्वरासाठी यज्ञ अर्पण करायला म्हणून त्यांनी उत्तमोत्तम गुरेमेंढरे बाजूला ठेवली आहेत. बाकीच्या सगळ्याचा मात्र आम्ही संहार केला.”
16And Samuel saith unto Saul, `Desist, and I declare to thee that which Jehovah hath spoken unto me to-night;` and he saith to him, `Speak.`
16यावर शमुवेल शौलला म्हणाला, “बस्स कर! काल रात्री परमेश्वर माझ्याशी काय बोलला ते सांगतो.” शौल म्हणाला, “बरे तर, सांगा.”
17And Samuel saith, `Art not thou, if thou [art] little in thine own eyes, head of the tribes of Israel? and Jehovah doth anoint thee for king over Israel,
17शमुवेल सांगायला लागला, “पूर्वी तू स्वत:ला मोठा समजत नव्हतास. पण तू सर्व इस्राएलांचा प्रमुख बनलास. परमेश्वराने तुला राजा म्हणून नेमले.
18and Jehovah sendeth thee in the way, and saith, Go, and thou hast devoted the sinners, the Amalekite, and fought against them till they are consumed;
18परमेश्वराने तुला विशेष कामगिरीवर पाठवले. तो म्हणाला, ‘सर्व अमालेक्यांच्या संहार कर. ते नीच असल्याने त्यांना शिल्लक ठेवू नको. त्यांची नावनिशाणीही उरु देऊ नको.
19and why hast thou not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah — and dost fly unto the spoil, and dost do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah?`
19पण तू परमेश्वराचे ऐकले नाहीस. तुला या गोष्टी ठेवायच्या होत्या म्हणून परमेश्वराने जे करु नको म्हणून सांगितले ते तू केलेस.”
20And Saul saith unto Samuel, `Because — I have hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, and I go in the way which Jehovah hath sent me, and bring in Agag king of Amalek, and Amalek I have devoted;
20शौल म्हणाला, “पण मी तर परमेश्वराची आज्ञा पाळली आहे. त्याने पाठवले तिकडे मी गेलो. सर्व अमालेक्यांना नष्ट केले. राजा अगाग याला तेवढे मी परत आणले.
21and the people taketh of the spoil of the flock and herd, the first part of the devoted thing, for sacrifice to Jehovah thy God in Gilgal.`
21आणि सैनिकांनी जी निवडक गुरेमेंढरे घेतली ती गिलगाल येथे यज्ञात तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ह्याला अर्पण करण्यासाठी.”
22And Samuel saith, `Hath Jehovah had delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices as [in] hearkening to the voice of Jehovah? lo, hearkening than sacrifice is better; to give attention than fat of rams;
22पण शमुवेल म्हणाला, “परमेश्वर जास्त प्रसन्न कशामुळे होईल? यज्ञ आणि होमार्पणे देऊन की त्याच्या आज्ञा पाळल्याने? त्याच्यासाठी यज्ञ करण्यापेक्षा परमेश्वराची आज्ञा पाळणे केव्हाही श्रेयस्कर. मेंढराची चरबी त्याला वाहण्यापेक्षा त्याचे ऐकणे चांगले.
23for a sin of divination [is] rebellion, and iniquity and teraphim [is] stubbornness; because thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, He also doth reject thee from [being] king.`
23परमेश्वराची अवज्ञा करणे हे जादूटोण्याचे पाप करण्या इतकेच वाईट. आडमुठेपणाने आपल्याला हव ते करणे हे मूर्तीपूजेसारखंच पातक आहे. तू परमेश्वराचा आज्ञाभंग केलास. तेव्हा परमेश्वरालाही तू राजा असणे आता मान्य नाही.”
24And Saul saith unto Samuel, `I have sinned, for I passed over the command of Jehovah, and thy words; because I have feared the people, I also hearken to their voice;
24तेव्हा शौल शमुवेलला म्हणाला, “माझ्या हातून पाप झाले आहे. मी परमेश्वराचे वचन पाळले नाही. तुम्ही सांगितले तसे वागलो नाही. लोकांचा मला धाक वाटला आणि त्यांच्या म्हणण्याप्रमाणे मी वागलो.
25and now, bear, I pray thee, with my sin, and turn back with me, and I bow myself to Jehovah.`
25पण आता या पापाबद्दल मला क्षमा करा. मी तुम्हाला ही विनवणी करतो. माझ्या बरोबर चला. मी परमेश्वराची उपासना करीन.”
26And Samuel saith unto Saul, `I do not turn back with thee; for thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, and Jehovah doth reject thee from being king over Israel.`
26पण शमुवेल म्हणाला, “मी आता तुझ्याबरोबर परत येणार नाही. तू परमेश्वराचा शब्द मोडलास तेव्हा परमेश्वरही तुला इस्राएलच्या राजेपदावरुन झुगारुन देत आहे.”
27And Samuel turneth round to go, and he layeth hold on the skirt of his upper robe — and it is rent!
27एवढे बोलून शमुवेल जायला निघाला तेव्हा शौलने त्याच्या अंगरख्याचे टोक धरुन त्याला थोपवायचा प्रयत्न केला. यात अंगरखा फाटला.
28And Samuel saith unto him, `Jehovah hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee to-day, and given it to thy neighbour who is better than thou;
28शमुवेल म्हणाला, “तू हा अंगराखा फाडलास तसे इस्राएलचे राज्य तुझ्याकडून परमेश्वराने हिसकावून घेतले आहे. तुझ्याच एका मित्राकडे ते सोपवले आहे. तो तुझ्या पेक्षा भला आहे.
29and also, the Pre-eminence of Israel doth not lie nor repent, for He [is] not a man to be penitent.`
29परमेश्वर इस्राएलचा देव असून तो सर्वकाळ आहे. परमेश्वर आपला शब्द फिरवत नाही की विचार बदलत नाही. माणसासारखा तो चंचल नव्हे.”
30And he saith, `I have sinned; now, honour me, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn back with me; and I have bowed myself to Jehovah thy God.`
30शौल म्हणाला, “ठीक आहे माझ्याहातून पाप झाले आहे. पण कृपाकरुन माझ्या बरोबर परत चल. इस्राएलचे लोक आणि अधिकारी मंडळी यांच्यासमोर माझा अवमान करु नको. तू बरोबर चल. मग मी प्रभु परमेश्वराची उपासना करतो.”
31And Samuel turneth back after Saul, and Saul boweth himself to Jehovah;
31शमुवेल त्या प्रमाणे शौलबरोबर गेला. शौलने परमेश्वराची उपासना केली.
32and Samuel saith, `Bring ye nigh unto me Agag king of Amalek,` and Agag cometh unto him daintily, and Agag saith, `Surely the bitterness of death hath turned aside.`
32शमुवेल म्हणाला, “आता अमालेक्यांचा राजा अगाग याला माझ्या समोर आणा.” अगाग आला. त्याला साखळदंडांनी बांधले होते. त्याला वाटले, “हा काही आपला जीव घेणार नाही.”
33And Samuel saith, `As thy sword bereaved women — so is thy mother bereaved above women;` and Samuel heweth Agag in pieces before Jehovah in Gilgal.
33पण शमुवेल अगागला म्हणाला, “तुझ्या तलवारीने तू मुलांना आई वेगळे केलेस. आता तुझ्या आईची गतीही तशीच होईल.” आणि त्याने गिलगाल येते परमेश्वरासमोर अगागचे तुकडे तुकडे केले.
34And Samuel goeth to Ramath, and Saul hath gone unto his house — to Gibeah of Saul.
34मग शमुवेल तिथून निघाला. तो रामा येथे गेला. शौल आपल्या गिबा येथील घरी परतला.
35And Samuel hath not added to see Saul till the day of his death, for Samuel mourned for Saul, and Jehovah repented that He had caused Saul to reign over Israel.
35पुढे आयूष्यभर शमुवेलला शौलचे दर्शन झाले नाही. शौलबद्दल त्याला फार वाईट वाटले. शौलला इस्राएलचा राजा केल्याबद्दल परमेश्वरालाही खेद झाला.
