1And David cometh in to Nob, unto Ahimelech the priest, and Ahimelech trembleth at meeting David, and saith to him, `Wherefore [art] thou thyself alone, and no man with thee?`
1मग दावीद निघून गेला आणि योनाथान आपल्या गावी परत आला.
2And David saith to Ahimelech the priest, `The king hath commanded me a matter, and he saith unto me, Let no man know anything of the matter about which I am sending thee, and which I have commanded thee; and the young men I have caused to know at such and such a place;
2दावीद नोब नामक गावी अहीमलेख या याजकाला भेटायला गेला. अहीमलेख त्याला भेटायला चार पावले पुढे चालून गेला. अहीमलेखला भीतीने कापरे भरले होते. दावीदला त्याने विचारले, “तू एकटाच का? तुझ्याबरोबर कोणीच नाही हे कसे?”
3and now, what is there under thy hand? five loaves give into my hand, or that which is found.`
3दावीदाने सांगितले, “राजाच्या खास आज्ञेवरुन मी आलो आहे. त्यानुसार हे काम गुप्त ठेवायचे आहे. त्याबद्दल कोणालाही काही काळू द्यायचे नाही. माझी माणसे विशिष्ट संकेतस्थळी मला भेटणार आहेत.
4And the priest answereth David, and saith, `There is no common bread under my hand, but there is holy bread; if the youths have been kept only from women.`
4आता आधी तुझ्या जवळ खायला द्यायला काय आहे ते सांग. पाच भाकरी किंवा जे असेल ते दे.”
5And David answereth the priest, and saith to him, `Surely, if women have been restrained from us as heretofore in my going out, then the vessels of the young men are holy, and it [is] a common way: and also, surely to-day it is sanctified in the vessel.`
5तेव्हा याजक म्हणाला, “साधी भाकर तर आत्ता नाही पण पवित्र भाकर आहे. तुझ्या अधिकाऱ्यांचा बायकांशी संबंध आला नसेल तर त्यांना ती चालेल.”
6And the priest giveth to him the holy thing, for there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence which is turned aside from the presence of Jehovah to put hot bread in the day of its being taken away.
6दावीद म्हणाला, “आमचा बायकांशी संपर्क आलेला नाही. युध्दावरच काय पण अगदी सामान्य मोहिमेवर निघाको तरी आमची माणसे शुचिर्भूत असतात. मग या खास कामाबद्दल तर बोलायलाच नको.”
7And there [is] a man of the servants of Saul on that day detained before Jehovah, and his name [is] Doeg the Edomite, chief of the shepherds whom Saul hath.
7पवित्र भाकरी खेरीज दुसरी भाकर नव्हतीच. तेव्हा याजकाने दावीदला तीच दिली परमेश्वरापुढच्या पवित्र मेजावर याजक रोजच्या रोज ताजी भाकर ठेवत, त्यातलीही होती.
8And David saith to Ahimelech, `And is there not here under thy hand spear or sword? for neither my sword nor my vessels have I taken in my hand, for the matter of the king was urgent.`
8दवेग नावाचा शौलचा एक अधिकारी त्या दिवशी तेथे होता. तो अदोमी असून शौलच्या मेंढपाळांचा प्रमुख होता. परमेश्वरासमोर त्याला थांबवून ठेवलेले होते.
9And the priest saith, `The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou didst smite in the valley of Elah, lo, it is wrapt in a garment behind the ephod, if it thou dost take to thyself, take; for there is none other save it in this [place].` And David saith, `There is none like it — give it to me.`
9दावीदाने अहीमलेखला विचारले, “इथे भाला किंवा तलवार आहे का? राजाचे काम फार निकडीचे असल्यामुळे मला तातडीने निघावे लागले. त्यामुळे मी माझे शस्त्र बरोबर आणू शकलो नाही.”
10And David riseth and fleeth on that day from the face of Saul, and cometh in unto Achish king of Gath;
10पुरोहित म्हणाला, “गल्याथ या पलिष्ट्याला तू एलाच्या खोऱ्यात मारलेस तेव्हा त्याची तलवार काढून घेतलीस. तीच काय ती इथे आहे. एफोदच्या मागे एका कापडात ती गुंडाळून ठेवलेली आहे. हवीतर ती घे.” दावीद म्हणाला, “तीच दे. तिच्यासारखी दुसरी तलवार नाही.”
11and the servants of Achish say unto him, `Is not this David king of the land? is it not of this one they sing in dances, saying, `Saul smote among his thousands, and David among his myriads?`
11शौलाकडून दावीद पळाला, तो गथचा राजा आखीश याच्याकडे आला.
12And David layeth these words in his heart, and is exceedingly afraid of the face of Achish king of Gath,
12आखीशच्या अधिकाऱ्याला हे आवडले नाही. त्याचे अधिकारी म्हणाले, “हा दावीद, इस्राएल भूमीचा राजा. इस्राएल याचे गुणगान गातात. नाचत गात ते याच्याविषयी म्हणतात, “शौलने हजार शत्रूंना मारले तर दावीदाने लाखोंचा वध केला.”
13and changeth his behaviour before their eyes, and feigneth himself mad in their hand, and scribbleth on the doors of the gate, and letteth down his spittle unto his beard.
13दावीदाने त्यांचे बोलणे लक्षपूर्वक ऐकले. गथचा राजा आखीश याला सामोरे जायची त्याला भीती वाटली.
14And Achish saith unto his servants, `Lo, ye see a man acting as a madman; why do ye bring him in unto me?
14म्हणून राजा व त्याचा दरबार यांच्यापुढे त्याने वेड्याचे सोंग वठवले. प्रवेशद्वारावर थुंकला, दाढीवर लाळ ओघळू दिली.
15A lack of madmen [have] I, that ye have brought in this one to act as a madman by me! doth this one come in unto my house?`
15आखीश हे पाहून आपल्या अधिकाऱ्यांना म्हणाला, “पाहा, हा माणूस वेडा आहे. याला इथे कशाला येऊ दिलेत?
