1And Rehoboam goeth to Shechem, for [to] Shechem have all Israel come to cause him to reign.
1रहबाम शखेम येथे गेला कारण त्याला राजा करण्यासाठी सर्व इस्राएल लोक तेथे गेले होते.
2And it cometh to pass, at Jeroboam son of Nebat's -- who [is] in Egypt because he hath fled from the face of Solomon the king -- hearing, that Jeroboam turneth back out of Egypt;
2यावेळी यराबाम मिसरमध्ये होता कारण त्याने राजा शलमोनापुढून पळ काढला होता. यराबाम हा नबाटाचा मुलगा. रहबाम राजा होणार हे त्याने ऐकले म्हणून तो मिसरहून आला.
3and they send and call for him, and Jeroboam cometh in, and all Israel, and speak unto Rehoboam, saying,
3तेव्हा इस्राएल लोकांनी यराबामलाही आपल्याबरोबर येण्यास सांगितले. अशा तऱ्हेने यराबाम आणि सर्व इस्राएल लोक रहबामकडे आले. त्याला ते म्हणाले, “रहबाम,
4`Thy father made our yoke sharp, and now, make light [somewhat] of the sharp service of thy father, and of his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we serve thee.'
4तुमच्या वडलांनी आमचे आयुष्य फार जिकिरीचे केले होते. त्यांनी जणू आमच्या मानेवर जू ठेवले होते. ते आता हलके करा म्हणजे आम्ही तुमच्या आज्ञेत राहू.”
5And he saith unto them, `Yet three days -- then return ye unto me;' and the people go.
5यावर रहबाम त्यांना म्हणाला, “तुम्ही तीन दिवसांनी परत या.” तेव्हा लोक निघून गेले.
6And king Rehoboam consulteth with the aged men who have been standing before Solomon his father in his being alive, saying, `How are ye counselling to answer this people?'
6राजा रहबामने मग आपल्या वडलांच्या पदरी असणाऱ्या वडीलधाऱ्या मंडळींशी चर्चा केली. रहबाम त्यांना म्हणाला, “मी या लोकांशी काय बोलावे? मला या बाबतीत तुमचा सल्ला हवा आहे.”
7And they speak unto him, saying, `If thou dost become good to this people, and hast been pleased with them, and spoken unto them good words, then they have been to thee servants all the days.'
7तेव्हा ती वयोवृध्द मंडळी रहबामला म्हणाली, “तू या लोकांशी प्रेमाने वागलास, त्यांना संतुष्ट केलेस आणि त्यांच्याशी गोड बोललास तर ते चिरकाल तुझी सेवा करतील.”
8And he forsaketh the counsel of the aged men that they counselled him, and consulteth with the lads who have grown up with him, those standing before him,
8पण रहाबामने त्यांचा हा सल्ला मानला नाही. तो मग आपल्या पदरी असलेल्या आणि आपल्या बरोबर लहानाचे मोठे झालेल्या तरुण मंडळींशी बोलला.
9and he saith unto them, `What are ye counselling, and we answer this people that have spoken unto me, saying, Make light [somewhat] of the yoke that thy father put upon us?'
9रहबाम त्यांना म्हणाला, “तुम्ही मला काय सल्ला द्याल? आपण लोकांना काय सांगावे? त्यांना आपले ओझे हलके करुन हवे आहे. माझ्या वडलांनी त्यांच्या मानेवर ठेवलेले जूं आता त्यांना मी हलके करायला हवे आहे.”
10And the lads who have grown up with him, speak with him, saying, `Thus dost thou say to the people who have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and thou, make light [somewhat] of our yoke; thus dost thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than the loins of my father;
10तेव्हा त्याच्या पिढीची ती तरुण मुले रहबामला म्हणाली, “तुमच्याकडे आलेल्या लोकांना तुम्ही असे सांगावे. लोक तुम्हाला म्हणाले की, ‘मानेवर जूं ठेवल्याप्रमाणे तुमच्या वडलांनी आम्हाला कठोर जिणे जगायला लावले. तुम्ही आता ते हलके करावे असे आम्हाला वाटते.’ पण रहबाम, तुम्ही त्यांना असे सांगावे, ‘माझी करंगळी माझ्या वडीलांच्या कमरेपेक्षा जाड असेल.
11and now, my father laid on you a heavy yoke, and I -- I add unto your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- with scorpions.'
11माझ्या वडीलांनी तुमच्यावर फार ओझे लादले ना! मी तर ते अधिकच भारी करणार आहे. माझ्या वडलांनी तुम्हाला चाबकांचे फटकारे मारले. मी त्या चाबकांना धातूची अणकुचीदार टोके लावून शासन करीन.”
12And Jeroboam cometh in, and all the people, unto Rehoboam on the third day, as the king spake, saying, `Return unto me on the third day.'
12“यराबाम आणि सर्व लोक तीन दिवसांनी रहबामकडे आले.” राजा रहबामने त्यांना तसेच सांगितले होते.
13And the king answereth them sharply, and king Rehoboam forsaketh the counsel of the aged men,
13रहबाम त्यांच्याशी यावेळी अविचारीपणाने बोलला. मोठ्यांचा सल्ला त्याने मानला नाही.
14and speaketh unto them according to the counsel of the lads, saying, `My father made your yoke heavy, and I -- I add unto it; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- with scorpions.'
14तरुणांनी दिलेल्या सल्ल्याप्रमाणे तो बोलला. तो लोकांना म्हणाला, “माझ्या वडीलांनी तुमच्यावर फार ओझे लादले ते मी अधिकच भारी करीन. त्यांनी तुम्हाला चाबकाने शासन केले असेल पण मी टोकदार धातूची टोके जोडलेल्या चांबकांनी शासन करीन.”
15And the king hath not hearkened unto the people, for the revolution hath been from God, for the sake of Jehovah's establishing His word that He spake by the hand of Abijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam son of Nebat.
15राजा रहबामने लोकांचे ऐकून घेतले नाही. तो असे बोलला कारण हा बदल परमेश्वरानेच घडवून आणला होता. अहीया मार्फत परमेश्वर यराबामशी जे बोलला होता ते प्रत्यक्षात यावे म्हणूनच त्याने अशी वेळ येऊ दिली. अहीया हा शिलोनी लोकांपैकी होता आणि यराबाम नबाटाचा मुलगा होता.
16And all Israel have seen that the king hath not hearkened to them, and the people send back [to] the king, saying, `What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in a son of Jesse; each to thy tents, O Israel; now, see thy house -- David,' and all Israel go to their tents.
16राजा रहबामने आपल्या म्हणण्याकडे दुर्लक्ष केले हे इस्राएल लोकांच्या लक्षात आले. ते राजाला म्हणले, “आम्ही काय दावीदाच्या घराण्यातले आहोत का? मुळीच नाही! इशायच्या जमिनीत आमचा वाटा आहे का? नाही! तेव्हा इस्राएल लोकांनो, आपण आपले आपापल्या घरी जाऊ या दावीदाच्या मुलाला आपल्या घरच्यांवरच राज्य करु द्या.” सर्व इस्राएल लोक मग घरोघर गेले.
17As to the sons of Israel who are dwelling in the cities of Judah -- Rehoboam reigneth over them.
17पण यहूदाच्या नगरांमध्ये राहाणारे काही इस्राएल लोक होते. रहबाम त्यांच्यावर राज्य करत राहिला.
18And king Rehoboam sendeth Hadoram, who [is] over the tribute, and the sons of Israel cast at him stones, and he dieth; and king Rehoboam hath strengthened himself to go up into a chariot to flee to Jerusalem;
18हदोराम हा वेठबिगारांवरचा मुकादम होता. रहबामने त्याला इस्राएल लोकांकडे पाठवले. पण इस्राएल लोकांनी त्याच्यावर दगडफेक करुन त्याला मरेपर्यंत मारले. इकडे रहबामने रथाचा आश्रय घेतला आणि त्वरेने पळ काढला. तो यरुशलेमला पळून गेला.
19and Israel transgress against the house of David unto this day.
19तेव्हापासून आजतागायत इस्राएलचे दावीदाच्या घराण्याशी वैर आहे.
