¹A son of twenty and five years hath Amaziah reigned, and twenty and nine years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Jehoaddan of Jerusalem,

¹अमस्या राजा झाला तेव्हा पंचवीस वर्षांचा होता. नंतर त्याने यरुशलेममध्ये एकोणतीस वर्षे राज्य केले. याच्या आईचे नाव यहोअदान. ती यरुशलेमची होती.

²and he doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah -- only, not with a perfect heart.

²त्याची वर्तणूक परमेश्वराला पटेल अशी होती पण त्यात मन:पूर्वकता नव्हती.

³And it cometh to pass, when the kingdom hath been strong upon him, that he slayeth his servants, those smiting the king his father,

³अमस्या शक्तिशाली राजा झाला मग त्याने आपल्या वडलांच्या मारेकऱ्यांची हत्या केली.

⁴and their sons he hath not put to death, but [did] as is written in the law, in the book of Moses, whom Jehovah commanded, saying, `Fathers do not die for sons, and sons die not for fathers, but each for his own sin they die.'

⁴पण त्याच्या मुलांना त्याने ठार केले नाही कारण याबाबतीत मोशेच्या नियमशास्त्रातली आज्ञा त्याने पाळली. परमेश्वराची आज्ञा अशी आहे, “मुलांच्या अपराधासाठी आईवडलांना आणि आईवडलांच्या अपराधासाठी मुलांना मृत्युदंड देऊ नये. ज्याच्या हातून अपराध झाला त्या व्यक्तीलाच देहदंड व्हावा.”

⁵And Amaziah gathereth Judah, and appointeth them, according to the house of the fathers, for heads of the thousands, and for heads of the hundreds, for all Judah and Benjamin; and he inspecteth them from a son of twenty years and upward, and findeth them three hundred thousand chosen ones, going forth to the host, holding spear and target.

⁵अमस्याने सर्व यहूदा लोकांना एकत्र केले आणि त्यांच्या घराण्यांवर सेनापती आणि सेनानायक यांच्या नेमणुका केल्या. समस्त यहूदा आणि बन्यामिन सैनिकांवर या प्रमुखांचा अंमल होता. युध्दात भाग घेण्यासाठी वय वर्षे किमान वीस आणि त्यापुढील वयाचे सैनिक निवडले. भाले आणि ढाली या आयुधांनी सज्ज असे सैनिक त्याने मोजले. ते एकंदर 3,00,000 निवडक सैनिक युध्दाला तयार होते.

⁶And he hireth out of Israel a hundred thousand mighty ones of valour, with a hundred talents of silver;

⁶यांच्याखोरीज आणखी 1 लक्ष सैन्याची कुमक अमस्याने इस्राएलकडून मागवली. त्यासाठी त्याने 3 3/4 टन चांदी एवढी किंमत मोजली.

⁷and a man of God hath come in unto him, saying, `O king, the host of Israel doth not go with thee; for Jehovah is not with Israel -- all the sons of Ephraim;

⁷पण यावेळी देवाचा एक माणूस अमस्याकडे येऊन त्याला म्हणाला, “हे राजा, इस्राएलच्या सैन्याला आपल्याबरोबर घेऊ नकोस. एफ्राइमच्या वंशजांना म्हणजेच इस्राएलच्या लोकांना परमेश्वराची साथ नाही.

⁸but if thou art going -- do [it], be strong for battle, God doth cause thee to stumble before an enemy, for there is power in God to help, and to cause to stumble.'

⁸तू भले कितीही तयारी करुन लढाईत उतरलास तरी तुझा जय पराजय होणे देवाच्याच हातात आहे.”

⁹And Amaziah saith to the man of God, `And what -- to do for the hundred talents that I have given to the troop of Israel?' And the man of God saith, `Jehovah hath more to give to thee than this.'

⁹यावर अमस्या त्या देवाच्या माणसाला म्हणाला, “पण इस्राएली सैन्याला मी पैसे देऊन बसलो आहे, त्याचे काय?” देवाचा माणूस म्हणाला, “परमेश्वराकडे अलोट संपत्ती आहे, तो तुला त्यापेक्षा कितीतरी जास्त देऊ शकेल.”

¹⁰And Amaziah separateth them -- for the troop that hath come in unto him from Ephraim to go to their own place, and their anger doth burn mightily against Judah, and they turn back to their place in the heat of anger.

¹⁰तेव्हा अमस्याने इस्राएलच्या सैन्याला एफ्राइमला परत पाठवले. या कृत्यामुळे इस्राएली सैन्य, यहुदाचा राजा आणि यहूदाचे लोक यांच्यावर संतापले आणि रागानेच घरी परतले.

¹¹And Amaziah hath strengthened himself, and leadeth his people, and goeth to the Valley of Salt, and smiteth the sons of Seir -- ten thousand.

¹¹यानंतर अमस्याने मोठेच धाडस करुन अदोम देशातील मिठाच्या खोऱ्यावर हल्ला चढवला. अमस्याच्या सैन्याने या ठिकाणी सेइर मधील 10,000 लोकांना ठार केले.

¹²And ten thousand alive have the sons of Judah taken captive, and they bring them to the top of the rock, and cast them from the top of the rock, and all of them have been broken.

¹²आणखी 10,000 जणांना बंदिवान केले. त्यांना धरुन खडकाच्या माध्यावर नेले आणि एवढ्या उंचीवरुन त्यांचा कडेलोट केला. खालच्या दगडधोंड्यांवर त्यांचे देह छिन्नविच्छिन्न होऊन पडले.

¹³And the sons of the troop that Amaziah hath sent back from going with him to battle -- they rush against cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-Horon, and smite of them three thousand, and seize much prey.

¹³नेमक्या याचवेळी इस्राएली सैन्याने यहूदातील काही नगरांवर हल्ला चढवला. त्यांनी बेथ - होरोनपासून थेट शोमरोनपर्यंत गावे उद्ध्वस्त केली. 3000 लोकांना जिवे मारले आणि मौल्यवान चीजवस्तू लुटल्या. अमस्याने आपल्याला लढाईत सामील करुन न घेतल्यामुळे हे इस्राएली सैन्य भडकले होते.

¹⁴And it cometh to pass, after the coming in of Amaziah from smiting the Edomites, that he bringeth in the gods of the sons of Seir, and establisheth them to him for gods, and before them doth bow himself, and to them he maketh perfume.

¹⁴अदोम्यांचा पाडाव करुन अमस्या आपल्या नगरात परतला. येताना त्याने सेइरमधील लोकांच्या देवाच्या मूर्ती बरोबर आणल्या आणि त्यांची पूजाअर्चा सुरु केली. या दैवतांना वंदन करुन तो त्यांच्यापुढे धूप जाळू लागला.

¹⁵And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Amaziah, and He sendeth unto him a prophet, and he saith unto him, `Why hast thou sought the gods of the people that have not delivered their people out of thy hand?'

¹⁵या कृतीमुळे परमेश्वराचा अमस्यावर कोप झाला. परमेश्वराने संदेष्ट्याला अमस्याकडे पाठवले. संदेष्टा राजाला म्हणाला, “अमस्या, त्या लोकांच्या दैवतांची पूजा तू का करत आहेस? त्या दैवतांना तर स्वत:च्याच लोकांचे तुझ्यापासून रक्षण करता आले नाही.”

¹⁶And it cometh to pass, in his speaking unto him, that he saith to him, `For a counsellor to the king have we appointed thee? cease for thee; why do they smite thee?' And the prophet ceaseth, and saith, `I have known that God hath counselled to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened to my counsel.'

¹⁶अमस्या संदेष्ट्याच्या या बोलण्यावर म्हणाला, “आम्ही तुला राजाचा सल्लागार म्हणून नेमलेले नाही, तेव्हा तू गप्प राहावे हे चांगले नाहीतर जिवाला मुकशील.” संदेष्टा गप्प बसला पण नंतर म्हणाला, “देवाने तुझा नाश करायचे निश्चित केले आहे. कारण तू करु नये त्या गोष्टी केल्यास आणि माझे ऐकले नाहीस.”

¹⁷And Amaziah king of Judah taketh counsel, and sendeth unto Joash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying,

¹⁷यहूदाचा राजा अमस्या याने यावर आपल्या सल्लागारांबरोबर विचार विनिमय केला. मग योवाशला त्याने निरोप पाठवला की, “आपली एकदा प्रत्यक्ष गाठ पडली पाहिजे.” योवाश हा यहोआहाजचा मुलगा आणि यहोआहाज येहूचा. होहू इस्राएलचा राजा होता.

¹⁸`Come, we look one another in the face.' And Joash king of Israel sendeth unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that [is] in Lebanon hath sent unto the cedar that [is] in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by doth a beast of the field that [is] in Lebanon, and treadeth down the thorn.

¹⁸इस्राएलचा राजा योवाश याने यहूदाचा राजा अमस्या याच्याकडे आपले उत्तर पाठवले. योवाशने दृष्टांत दिला तो असा: “लबानोन मधल्या एका काटेरी झुडुपाने लबानोनच्याच एका गंधसरुला निरोप पाठवला की, ‘तुझ्या मुलींचे माझ्या मुलाशी लग्न व्हावे.’ पण तेवढ्यात ते झुडुप तिथून जाणाऱ्या एका वन्यपशूच्या पायाखाली तुडवले गेले.

¹⁹Thou hast said, Lo, I have smitten Edom; and thy heart hath lifted thee up to boast; now, abide in thy house, why dost thou stir thyself up in evil, that thou hast fallen, thou, and Judah with thee?'

¹⁹‘मी अदोमचा पारभव केला.’ असे तू खुशाल म्हण. तू हे प्रौढीने म्हणतो आहेस खरे पण तू आपल्या घरी स्वस्थ बसावेस हे बरे. उगीच नसत्या फंदात पडून अडचणीत येऊ नकोस! पण तू तसे केलेस तर तू स्वत:च्या आणि त्याबरोबर यहूदाच्या नाशाला कारणीभूत होशील.”

²⁰And Amaziah hath not hearkened, for from God it [is] in order to give them into hand, because they have sought the gods of Edom;

²⁰पण अमस्याने या निरोपाला दाद दिली नाही. देवाच्याच मनात तसे होते. यहूदाच्या लोकांनी अदोमी लोकांच्या दैवताचे भजनपूजन सुरु केल्यामुळे इस्राएलकडून यहूदाचा पराभव करायचे परमेश्वराने योजले होते.

²¹and go up doth Joash king of Israel, and they look one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-Shemesh, that [is] Judah's,

²¹तेव्हा इस्राएलचा राजा योवाश आणि यहूदाचा राजा अमस्या यांची बेथ - शेमेश नगरात समोरासमोर गाठ पडली. बेथ - शेमेश यहूदातच आहे.

²²and Judah is smitten before Israel, and they flee -- each to his tents.

²²इस्राएलने यहूदाचा पराभव केला. झाडून सर्व यहूद्यांनी या लढाईतून पळ काढला.

²³And Amaziah king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, hath Joash king of Israel caught in Beth-Shemesh, and bringeth him in to Jerusalem, and breaketh down in the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits,

²³योवाशने बेथ - शेमेश येथे अमस्याला पकडले आणि यरुशलेमला नेले. अमस्याच्या वडलांचे नाव योवाश. योवाशचे वडील यहोआहाज. योवाशने एफ्राइम वेशीपासून कोपऱ्याच्या वेशीपर्यंतची यरुशलेमच्या तटबंदीची 600 हात लांबीची भिंत पार मोडून तोडून टाकली.

²⁴and [taketh] all the gold, and the silver, and all the vessels that are found in the house of God with Obed-Edom, and the treasures of the house of the king, and the sons of the pledges, and turneth back to Samaria.

²⁴सर्व सोनेरुपे तसेच मंदिरातील उपकरणी, भांडी देखील त्याने हस्तगत केली. देवाच्या मंदिरातील वस्तूंची देखभाल करण्याची जबाबदारी ओबेअदोमची होती. राजमहालातील चीजवस्तूही योवाशने लुटली. काही जणांना बंदिवान केले. या सगळ्यासह तो शोमरोनला परतला.

²⁵And Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, liveth after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, fifteen years;

²⁵योवाशच्या मृत्यूनंतर अमस्या पंधरा वर्षे जगला. अमस्याचे वडील म्हणजे यहुदाचा राजा योवाश.

²⁶and the rest of the matters of Amaziah, the first and the last, lo, are they not written on the books of the kings of Judah and Israel?

²⁶यहूदा आणि इस्राएलमधील राजांचा इतिहास या पुस्तकात, अमस्याने बाकी जे जे केले त्याची साद्यंत हकीकत आली आहे.

²⁷And from the time that Amaziah hath turned aside from after Jehovah -- they make a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fleeth to Lachish, and they send after him to Lachish, and put him to death there,

²⁷अमस्याने परमेश्वराचे आज्ञापालन करायचे थांबवल्यावर यरुशलेमच्या लोकांनी त्याच्याविरुध्द कट केला. तेव्हा तो लाखीश येथे पळून गेला. पण लोकांनी त्याच्या मागावर माणसे पाठवून त्याचा तेथे वध केला.

²⁸and lift him up on the horses, and bury him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

²⁸अमस्याचा मृत देह मग लोकांनी घोड्यावर लादला आणि यहूदानगरात आणून त्याला पूर्वजांशेजारी पुरले.
