1And at Ezra`s praying, and at his making confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there have been gathered unto him out of Israel an assembly very great — men and women and children — for the people have wept, multiplying weeping.

2And Shechaniah son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, answereth and saith to Ezra, `We — we have trespassed against our God, and we settle strange women of the peoples of the land; and now there is hope for Israel concerning this,
2त्यावेळी एलाम वंशातल्या यहिएलचा मुलगा शखन्या एज्राला म्हणाला, “आपण देवाचे वचन पाळले नाही आपल्या आसपास राहणाऱ्या लोकांमध्ये आपण विवाह केले. पण एवढे करुनही इस्राएलींच्या बाबतीत अजून आशा जागा आहे.
3and now, let us make a covenant with our God, to cause all the women to go out, and that which is born of them, by the counsel of the Lord, and of those trembling at the command of our God, and according to law it is done;
3तर आता, एज्रा आणि देवाच्या धर्मशास्त्राचा धाक असलेले लोक यांच्या उपदेशानुसार आपण त्या बायका आणि त्यांची संतती यांना देशाबाहेर घालवून देण्याची आपल्या देवासमोर शपथ वाहू या. परमेश्वराने घालून दिलेले नियम पाळू या
4rise, for on thee [is] the matter, and we [are] with thee; be strong, and do.`
4एज्रा, आता ऊठ ही तुझी जबाबदारी आहे. आमच्या पाठिंब्याने तू ती धैर्याने पार पाड.”
5And Ezra riseth, and causeth the heads of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear to do according to this word — and they swear.
5तेव्हा एज्रा उठला, प्रमुख यजाक, लेवी आणि सर्व इस्राएली लोक यांच्याकडून त्याने आपल्या म्हणण्यानुसार वागण्याची शपथ घेतली.
6And Ezra riseth from before the house of God, and goeth unto the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib; yea, he goeth there, bread he hath not eaten, and water he hath not drunk, for he is mourning because of the trespass of the removal.
6मग एज्रा मंदिराच्या समोरच्या भागातून उठून एल्याशीबचा मुलगा यहोहानान याच्या दालनात गेला. यहोहानाने एज्रा समोर अन्नपाण्याला स्पर्शही केला नाही. यरुशलेमहून परत आलेल्या इस्राएलींचा पापांनी तो व्यथित झाला होता.
7And they cause a voice to pass over into Judah and Jerusalem, to all sons of the removal, to be gathered to Jerusalem,
7त्याने मग यहुदा आणि यरुशलेमच्या प्रत्येक ठिकाणी दवंडी पिटवली. बंदिवासातून आलेल्या समस्त यहुदी लोकांना त्याने यरुशलेममध्ये जमायला सांगितले
8and every one who cometh not in by the third day, according to the counsel of the heads and of the elders, all his substance is devoted, and himself separated from the assembly of the removal.
8आणि जो कोणी तीन दिवसाच्या आत यरुशलेमला येणार नाही त्याची सर्व मालमत्ता जप्त होईल आणि अशा व्यक्ति आपल्या जातीत वाळीत सदस्य म्हणून राहू शकणार नाही असेही अधिकाऱ्यांनी आणि वडीलधाऱ्यांनी एकमताने ठरवले.
9And gathered are all the men of Judah and Benjamin to Jerusalem by the third day, it [is] the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month, and all the people sit in the broad place of the house of God, trembling on account of the matter and of the showers.
9त्यानुसार यहुदा आणि बन्यामीन यांच्या घराण्यातील सर्व पुरुषमंडळी तीन दिवसांच्या आत यरुशलेममध्ये जमली. हे लोक मंदिराच्या चौकात एकत्र आले. तो नवव्या महिन्याचा विसावा दिवस होता. एकत्र येण्यामागचे कारण आणि प्रचंड पाऊस यांच्यामुळे सर्वजण अतिशय कंपित झाले होते.
10And Ezra the priest riseth, and saith unto them, `Ye — ye have trespassed, and ye settle strange women, to add to the guilt of Israel;
10एज्रा याजक त्यांच्यासमोर उभा राहून म्हणाला, “तुम्ही देवाचे वचन पाळले नाही. परक्या स्त्रियांशी तुम्ही विवाह केलेत. या कृत्यामुळे इस्राएलच्या पापात तुम्ही भर टाकली आहे
11and, now, make confession to Jehovah, God of your fathers, and do His good pleasure, and be separated from the peoples of the land, and from the strange women.`
11आता देवासमोर आपले अपराध कबूल करा. आपल्या पूर्वजांच्या देवाची आज्ञा तुम्ही पाळली पाहिजे. तुमच्या मध्ये राहणारे लोक आणि आपल्या परक्या बायका यांच्यापासून वेगळे व्हा.”
12And all the assembly answer and say [with] a great voice, `Right; according to thy word — on us to do;
12यावर त्या जमावाने एज्राला खणखणीत आवाजात उत्तर दिले की, “एज्रा, तू म्हणतोस ते खरे आहे. तुझ्या सांगण्याप्रमाणे आम्हाला वागले पाहिजे.
13but the people [are] many, and [it is] the time of showers, and there is no power to stand without, and the work [is] not for one day, nor for two, for we have multiplied to transgress in this thing.
13पण आम्ही पुष्कळजण आहोत शिवाय हा पावसाळा आहे त्यामुळे आम्ही बाहेर थांबू शकत नाही. आमचा अपराध फार तीव्र असल्यामुळे हा एकदोन दिवसात सुटण्यासारखा प्रश्न नाही.
14`Let, we pray thee, our heads of all the assembly stand, and all who [are] in our cities, who have settled strange wives, do come in at the times appointed, and with them the elders of city and city, and its judges, till the turning back of the fury of the wrath of our God from us, for this thing.`
14या समुदायाच्या वतीने आमच्यातूनच काहींना मुखत्यार नेमावे प्रत्येक नगरातल्या ज्या रहिवाश्यांनी परकीय बायकांशी लग्ने केली आहेत त्यांनी यरुशलेमला नेमलेल्या वेळी यावे त्या त्या नगरातील न्यायाधीश आणि वडीलधारी मंडळी यांनीही त्यांच्याबरोबर यावे. असे झाले की मग देवाचा आमच्यावरचा क्रोध मावळेल.”
15Only Jonathan son of Asahel, and Jahaziah son of Tikvah, stood against this, and Meshullam, and Shabbethai the Levite, helped them.
15असएलचा मुलगा योनाथान आणि तिकवाचा मुलगा यहज्या तसेच मशुल्लाम व शब्बथई लेवी अशा मोजक्याच लोकांनी या योजनेला विरोध केला.
16And the sons of the removal do so, and Ezra the priest, [and] men, heads of the fathers, for the house of their fathers, are separated, even all of them by name, and they sit on the first day of the tenth month, to examine the matter;
16यरुशलेमला आलेल्या बाकी सर्व इस्त्राएली लोकांनी या योजनेला संमती दिली. एज्राने प्रत्येक घराण्यातून एकेका प्रमुख व्यक्तीची नेमणूक केली. त्या प्रत्येकाच्या नावाने निवडले गेली. हे नियुक्त केलेले सर्वजण दहाच्या महिन्याच्या पहिल्या दिवशी प्रत्येक प्रकरणाचा बारकाईने विचार करायला बसले
17and they finish with all the men who have settled strange women unto the first day of the first month.

18And there are found of the sons of the priests that have settled strange women: of the sons of Jeshua son of Jozadak, and his brethren, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah;

19and they give their hand to send out their wives, and, being guilty, a ram of the flock, for their guilt.

20And of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah;

21and of the sons of Harim: Masseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah;
21हारीमच्या वंशातले मासेया, एलीया, शमाया, यहीएल व उज्जीया,
22and of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
22पशहूरच्या वंशातले एल्योवेनय, मासेया, इश्माएल, नथनेल, योजाबाद, एलासा,
23And of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah — he [is] Kelita, — Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
23लेव्यांपैकी योजाबाद, शिमी, कलाया उर्फ-कलीटा, पूथह्या, यहूदा आणि अलियेजर,
24And of the singers: Eliashib. And of the gatekeepers: Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.
24गायकांपैकी एल्याशीब, द्वारपालांमधले, शल्लूम, तेलेम, ऊरी,
25And of Israel: of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchijah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.
25इस्राएलीमंधले परोशाच्या वंशातले रम्या व यिज्जीया, मल्कीया, मियानीन, एलाजार, मल्कीया, बनाया,
26And of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.
26एलामच्या वंशातले मत्तन्या, जखऱ्या, यहीएल, अब्दी, यरेमोथ व एलीया,
27And of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.
27जत्तूच्या वंशातले एल्योवेनय, एल्याशीब, मत्तन्या, यरेमोथ, जाबाजाबाद, अजीजा,
28And of the sons of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai.
28बेबाईच्या वंशातील यहोहानान, इनन्या, जब्बइ, अथलइ
29And of the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.

30And of the sons of Pahath-Moab: Adna, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezaleel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.

43Of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jadau, and Joel, Benaiah;
43नबोच्या वंशातील ईयेल, मत्तिथ्या, जाबाद, जबिना, इद्दो, योएल, बनाया.
44all these have taken strange women, and there are of them women — who adopt sons.
44वरील सर्वांनी परकीय बायकांशी लग्ने केली होती. त्यापैकी काहींना या संबंधातून संतती झाली होती.
