¹After these things hath the word of Jehovah been unto Abram in a vision, saying, `Fear not, Abram, I [am] a shield to thee, thy reward [is] exceeding great.`

¹या सर्व गोष्टी घडल्यावर अब्रामाला दृष्टांन्तात परमेश्वराचे वचन आले. देव म्हणाला, “अब्रामा, भिऊ नको; मी तुझे रक्षण करीन आणि तुला आनंद होईल असे मी तुला मोठे प्रतिफळ देईन.”

²And Abram saith, `Lord Jehovah, what dost Thou give to me, and I am going childless? and an acquired son in my house is Demmesek Eliezer.`

²परंतु अब्राम म्हणाला, “परमेश्वर देवा, असे काहीही प्रतिफळ नाही की जेणे कडून मला आनंद होईल, कारण मला मुलगा नाही; म्हणून माझ्या मरणानंतर माझे सर्वकाही दिमिष्कातील माझा गुलाम, अलिएजर यालाच मिळेल.”

³And Abram saith, `Lo, to me Thou hast not given seed, and lo, a domestic doth heir me.`

³अब्राम पुढे म्हणाला, “तू मला मुलगा दिला नाहीस म्हणून माझ्या घरात जन्मलेला माझा गुलामच माझ्या सगळ्या मालमत्तेचा वारस होईल.”

⁴And lo, the word of Jehovah [is] unto him, saying, `This [one] doth not heir thee; but he who cometh out from thy bowels, he doth heir thee;`

⁴परमेश्वर अब्रामाशी बोलला, तो म्हणाला, “तुझे सर्वकाही त्या तुझ्या गुलामाला मिळणार नाही; तर तुला मुलगा होईल आणि तोच तुझ्या सगळ्या मालमत्तेचा वारस होईल.”

⁵and He bringeth him out without, and saith, `Look attentively, I pray thee, towards the heavens, and count the stars, if thou art able to count them;` and He saith to him, `Thus is thy seed.`

⁵मग देवाने अब्रामाला रात्रीचे आकाश दाखविण्यासाठी बाहेर नेले. देव म्हणाला, “ह्या आकाशातील ताऱ्यांकडे पाहा, तुला मोजता येणार नाहीत इतके ते आहेत; येथून पुढच्या काळात तुझी संततीही त्या ताऱ्यांइतकी अगणित होईल.”

⁶And he hath believed in Jehovah, and He reckoneth it to him — righteousness.

⁶अब्रामाने देवावर विश्वास ठेवला देवाने त्याची प्रामाणिकांता गणना केली प्रमाणिक जीवन जगण्यास योग्य असा त्याचा विश्वस होता.

⁷And He saith unto him, `I [am] Jehovah who brought thee out from Ur of the Chaldees, to give to thee this land to possess it;`

⁷देव अब्रामाला म्हणाला, “हा देश तुला वतन करुन देण्याकरिता खास्द्यांच्या ऊर नगरातून तुला आणणारा मीच परमेश्वर आहे.”

⁸and he saith, `Lord Jehovah, whereby do I know that I possess it?`

⁸परंतु अब्राम म्हणाला, “परमेश्वरा, माझ्या स्वामी, हा देश कायमचा वतन करुन मला मिळेल, याची खात्री मला कशी यावी?”

⁹And He saith unto him, `Take for Me a heifer of three years, and a she-goat of three years, and a ram of three years, and a turtle-dove, and a young bird;`

⁹देव अब्रामाला म्हणाला, “माझ्यासाठी तीन वर्षांची एक कालवड, तीन वर्षांची एक शेळी, तीन वर्षांचा एक एडका तसेच एक होला व एक पारव्याचे पिल्लू आण.”

¹⁰and he taketh to him all these, and separateth them in the midst, and putteth each piece over against its fellow, but the bird he hath not divided;

¹⁰अब्रामाने तीं सर्व देवाकडे आणली अब्रामाने त्यांना चिरुन त्या प्रत्येकाचे दोन दोन अर्धे तुकडे केले; व ते समोरा समोर ठेवले; पक्षी मात्र त्याने दोन अर्धे चिरले नाहीत;

¹¹and the ravenous birds come down upon the carcases, and Abram causeth them to turn back.

¹¹मग कापलेल्या प्राण्यांचे मांस खाण्याकरिता हिंस्र पक्ष्यांनी उडून त्यावर झडप घातली; परंतु अब्रामाने त्यांना हाकलून लावले.

¹²And the sun is about to go in, and deep sleep hath fallen upon Abram, and lo, a terror of great darkness is falling upon him;

¹²नंतर त्या दिवशी सूर्य मावळू लागला, तेव्हा अब्रामाला गाढ झोप लागली म्हणून तो झोपला; तो झोपेत असताना अती भयंकर अंधार त्याच्यावर पडला;

¹³and He saith to Abram, `knowing — know that thy seed is a sojourner in a land not theirs, and they have served them, and they have afflicted them four hundred years,

¹³मग परमेश्वर अब्रामाला म्हणाला, “तुला या गोष्टी समजल्या पाहिजेत; तुझे वंशज परक्या देशात राहतील ते तेथे परके असतील, ते तेथे गुलाम होतील आणि 400 वर्षे त्यांचा छळ होईल, त्यांच्यावर जुलूम केला जाईल;

¹⁴and the nation also whom they serve I judge, and after this they go out with great substance;

¹⁴परंतु चारशे वर्षानंतर ज्याने त्यांना गुलाम बनवले त्या राष्ट्राला मी शिक्षा करीन, आणि मग आपल्या बरोबर पुष्कळ धन घेऊन ते त्या देशातून निघतील.

¹⁵and thou — thou comest in unto thy fathers in peace; thou art buried in a good old age;

¹⁵“तू स्वत: फार म्हातारा होऊन शांतीने मरण पावशील आणि तुझे पूर्वज जेथे पुरलेले आहेत तेथे तुला मूठमाती देतील.

¹⁶and the fourth generation doth turn back hither, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.`

¹⁶मग चार पिढ्यानंतर तुझे लोक या देशात माघारे येतील. त्यावेळी ते येथे राहाणाऱ्या अमोरी लोकांचा पराभव करतील, अमोरी लोकांना शिक्षा करण्यासाठी मी तुझ्या लोकांचा उपयोग करीन. (हे काही काळानंतर घडेल कारण अमोरी लोकांचा दुष्टपणा अद्याप शिगेला पोहोंचला नाहीं.)”

¹⁷And it cometh to pass — the sun hath gone in, and thick darkness hath been — and lo, a furnace of smoke, and a lamp of fire, which hath passed over between those pieces.

¹⁷सूर्य मावळल्यानंतर गडद अंधार पडला; मारलेल्या जनावरांच्या तेथेच पडलेल्या धडांच्या दोन दोन अर्ध्या तुकड्यांमधून धुराचा लोट आणि अग्नी निघून गेला.

¹⁸In that day hath Jehovah made with Abram a covenant, saying, `To thy seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Phrat,

¹⁸म्हणून त्या दिवशी परमेश्वराने अब्रामाला वचन दिले व त्याच्याशी करार केला. परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “मिसर देशाच्या नदी पासून फरात म्हणजे युफ्रेटीस या महानदीपर्यंतचा प्रदेश मी तुझ्या वंशजांना देतो;

¹⁹with the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite,

¹⁹केनी, कनिजी, कदमोनी,

²⁰and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim,

²⁰हित्ती, परिजी, रफाईम,

²¹and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.`

²¹अमोरी, कनानी, गिर्गाशी व यबूसी या लोकांचा प्रदेश मी तुम्हाला देतो.”
