1And Joseph hath been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, a eunuch of Pharaoh, head of the executioners, an Egyptian man, buyeth him out of the hands of the Ishmaelites who have brought him thither.
1योसेफाला विकत घेतलेल्या व्यापाऱ्यांनी त्याला मिसरला नेले व फारो राजाचा एक अधिकारी गारद्यांचा म्हणजे संरक्षक दलाचा सरदार पोटीफर यास विकले.
2And Jehovah is with Joseph, and he is a prosperous man, and he is in the house of his lord the Egyptian,
2परंतु परमेश्वराने योसेफाला सहाय्य केले म्हणून तो यशस्वी पुरुष झाला. योसेफ आपला स्वामी मिसरचा रहिवासी पोटीफर याच्यास घरी राहात असे.
3and his lord seeth that Jehovah is with him, and all that he is doing Jehovah is causing to prosper in his hand,
3परमेश्वर योसेफा बरोबर आहे आणि म्हणून त्याच्या हर एक कामात तो त्याला यश देतो हे पोटीफरला दिसून आले.
4and Joseph findeth grace in his eyes and serveth him, and he appointeth him over his house, and all that he hath he hath given into his hand.
4म्हणून पोटीफर योसेफावर फार खुष होता. त्याने योसेफाला आपल्या घरचा कारभार पाहाण्यात मदत करण्यास सांगितले.
5And it cometh to pass from the time that he hath appointed him over his house, and over all that he hath, that Jehovah blesseth the house of the Egyptian for Joseph`s sake, and the blessing of Jehovah is on all that he hath, in the house, and in the field;
5तेव्हा पोटीफराच्या सर्व कारभाराचा अधिकारी नेमल्यावर परमेश्वराने योसेफामुळे पोटीफराचे घरदार, शेतीबाडी इत्यादी त्याच्या मालकीच्या सर्व मालमत्तेस आशीर्वाद दिला.
6and he leaveth all that he hath in the hand of Joseph, and he hath not known anything that he hath, except the bread which he is eating. And Joseph is of a fair form, and of a fair appearance.
6याप्रमाणे पोटीफराने आपल्या घरादाराचा सर्व कारभार योसेफाच्या हवाली केला; म्हणून पोटीफर फक्त पुढ्यात वाढलेले भोजन घेई, त्या पलीकडे कशाचीही जबाबदारी त्याच्यावर नव्हती. योसेफ फार देखणा व बांधेसूद तरुण होता.
7And it cometh to pass after these things, that his lord`s wife lifteth up her eyes unto Joseph, and saith, `Lie with me;`
7काही काळानंतर पोटीफराच्या बायकोला तो आवडू लागला. एके दिवशी ती त्याला म्हणली, “माझ्याबरोबर नीज”
8and he refuseth, and saith unto his lord`s wife, `Lo, my lord hath not known what [is] with me in the house, and all that he hath he hath given into my hand;
8परंतु तसे करण्यास योसेफाने तिला नकार दिला. तो म्हणाला, “पाहा, या घराच्या सर्व कारभाराबद्दल माझ्या स्वामीचा माझ्यावर पूर्ण विश्वास आहे आणि तुम्हा खेरीज येथील सर्व गोष्टी त्याने माझ्या ताब्यात देऊन त्यांची सर्व जबाबदारी माझ्यावर सोपवली आहे.
9none is greater in this house than I, and he hath not withheld from me anything, except thee, because thou [art] his wife; and how shall I do this great evil? — then have I sinned against God.`
9माझ्या स्वामीने मला या घरात जवळ जवळ त्याच्या समान मोठपणा दिला आहे; असे असताना अशा उदार स्वामीच्या बायकोपाशी निजणे मला योग्य नाही. ते चुकीचे आहे; ते परमेश्वराच्या विरुद्ध घोर पाप आहे!”
10And it cometh to pass at her speaking unto Joseph day [by] day, that he hath not hearkened unto her, to lie near her, to be with her;
10पोटीफराची बायको दररोज योसफाबरोबर बोलत असे परंतु त्याने तिच्याबरोबर निजण्यास स्पष्ट पणे नकार दिला.
11and it cometh to pass about this day, that he goeth into the house to do his work, and there is none of the men of the house there in the house,
11एके दिवशी योसेफ आपले काही काम करण्याकरिता आतल्या घरात गेला. तो तेथे अगदी एकटाच होता व घरात दुसरे कोणीही नव्हते.
12and she catcheth him by his garment, saying, `Lie with me;` and he leaveth his garment in her hand, and fleeth, and goeth without.
12अशावेळी त्याच्या स्वामीच्या बायकोने त्याचे वस्त्र धरुन त्याला म्हटले “तू माझ्यापाशी नीज.” परंतु योसेफ ते वस्त्र तिच्या हातात सोडून आतल्या घरातून बाहेर पळून गेला.
13And it cometh to pass when she seeth that he hath left his garment in her hand, and fleeth without,
13तेव्हा योसेफ आपले वस्त्र आपल्या हाती सोडून पळून गेला हे तिने पाहिले. खोटे बोलून या घटनेचा अर्थ उलट करायचा असे तिने ठरवले.
14that she calleth for the men of her house, and speaketh to them, saying, `See, he hath brought in to us a man, a Hebrew, to play with us; he hath come in unto me, to lie with me, and I call with a loud voice,
14आणि तिने आरडा ओरडा करुन बाहेरील माणसांना बोलावले. ती म्हणाली, “पाहा, हा इब्री तरुण गुलाम आमच्या घरच्या माणसांची अब्रू घेण्यासाठी येथे आणून ठेवला आहे. त्याने आत येऊन माझ्यावर बळजबरी करण्याचा प्रयत्न केला. परंतु मी मोठयाने आरडा ओरडा केला;
15and it cometh to pass, when he heareth that I have lifted up my voice and call, that he leaveth his garment near me, and fleeth, and goeth without.`
15त्यामुळे घाबरुन हे त्याचे वस्त्र माइयापाशी टाकून तो पळून गेला.”
16And she placeth his garment near her, until the coming in of his lord unto his house.
16तेव्हा तिने आपला नवरा, योसेफाचा स्वामी घरी येईपर्यंत ते वस्त्र आपल्याजवळ सांभाळून ठेवले.
17And she speaketh unto him according to these words, saying, `The Hebrew servant whom thou hast brought unto us, hath come in unto me to play with me;
17आणि आपला नवरा घरी आल्यावर तिने त्याला तीच गोष्ट सांगितली. ती म्हणाली, “तुम्ही हा जो इब्री तरुण गुलाम घरी आणून ठेवला आहे त्याने माझ्यावर बळजबरी करण्याचा प्रयत्न केला.
18and it cometh to pass, when I lift my voice and call, that he leaveth his garment near me, and fleeth without.`
18परंतु तो माझ्याजवळ आल्यावर मी आरडा ओरडा केला म्हणून तो घाबरून आपले वस्त्र टाकून पळून गेला;”
19And it cometh to pass when his lord heareth the words of his wife, which she hath spoken unto him, saying, `According to these things hath thy servant done to me,` that his anger burneth;
19आपल्या बायकोचे बोलणे एकल्यावर योसेफाच्या स्वामीचा राग खूप भडकला.
20and Joseph`s lord taketh him, and putteth him unto the round-house, a place where the king`s prisoners [are] bound; and he is there in the round-house.
20राजाच्या शत्रूंना डांबण्यासाठी एक तुरुंग होता. तेव्हा पोटीफराने योसेफाला त्या तुरुंगात टाकले. योसेफ त्या तुरुंगात राहिला.
21And Jehovah is with Joseph, and stretcheth out kindness unto him, and putteth his grace in the eyes of the chief of the round-house;
21परंतु परमेश्वर योसेफाबरोबर होता; आणि योसेफावर परमेश्वराची दया सतत राहिली; काही काळानंतर तुरुंगाच्या अधिकाऱ्यास योसेफ आवडूं लागला.
22and the chief of the round-house giveth into the hand of Joseph all the prisoners who [are] in the round-house, and of all that they are doing there, he hath been doer;
22त्या अधिकाऱ्याने तुरुंगातील सर्व कैद्यांना योसेफाच्या स्वाधीन केले योसेफ; त्यांचा प्रमुख होता तरी पण तोही त्यांच्या सारखेच काम करी.
23the chief of the round-house seeth not anything under his hand, because Jehovah [is] with him, and that which he is doing Jehovah is causing to prosper.
23तुरुंगाच्या अधिकाऱ्याने तुरुंगातील सर्व गोष्टीसाठी योसेफावर विश्वास ठेवला; परमेश्वर योसेफाबरोबर होता म्हणून हे सर्व काही झाले. योसेफ जे काही करी त्यात परमेश्वर त्याला यश देई.
