1Lo, Jehovah is emptying the land, And is making it waste, And hath overturned [it on] its face, And hath scattered its inhabitants.
1पाहा! परमेश्वर ह्या देशाचा नाश करील. ही भूमी पूर्णपणे स्वच्छ करील. परमेश्वर लोकांना बळजबरीने दूर जायला लावील.
2And it hath been — as a people so a priest, As the servant so his master, As the maid-servant so her mistress, As the buyer so the seller, As the lender so the borrower, As the usurer so he who is lifting [it] on himself.
2त्या वेळेला सामान्य लोक आणि याजक यांना एकाच मापाने मोजले जाईल. गुलाम व मालक हे सारखेच समजले जातील. दासी आणि मालकीण यांच्यात फरक केला जाणार नाही. खरीददार व विक्रेते, कर्ज घेणारे व कर्ज देणारे आणि धनको व ऋणको ह्यांत भेद केला जाणार नाही.
3Utterly emptied is the land, and utterly spoiled, For Jehovah hath spoken this word:
3सर्व लोकांना देशातून बळजबरीने हाकलून दिले जाईल. सर्व संपत्ती लुटली जाईल. परमेश्वराच्या आज्ञेवरून हे घडेल.
4Mourned, faded hath the land, Languished, faded hath the world, Languished have they — the high place of the people of the land.
4देश ओस पडून त्याच्यावर शोककळा पसरेल. जग ओसाड व दु:खी होईल. ह्या देशातील महान नेते दुबळे होतील.
5And the land hath been defiled under its inhabitants, Because they have transgressed laws, They have changed a statute, They have made void a covenant age-during.
5ह्या देशातील लोकांनी देशाला ओंगळ केले. हे कसे झाले? देवाच्या शिकवणुकी विरूध्द जाऊन त्यांनी चुकीचे आचरण केले. देवाचे नियम त्यांनी मानले नाहीत. पूर्वी लोकांनी देवाबरोबर करार केला पण ती त्यांनीच मोडला.
6Therefore a curse hath consumed the land, And the inhabitants in it are become desolate, Therefore consumed have been inhabitants of the land, And few men have been left.
6ह्या देशात राहणारे लोक दुष्कृत्यांचे धनी आहेत. म्हणून देवाने हा देश नष्ट करायचा पण केला. लोकांना शिक्षा होईल. फारच थोडे वाचतील.
7Mourned hath the new wine, languished the vine, Sighed have all the joyful of heart.
7द्राक्षवेली सुकत चालल्या आहेत. नवीन मद्य खराब आहे. पूर्वी लोक सुखी होते. पण आता तेच लोक दु:खी झाले आहेत.
8Ceased hath the joy of tabrets, Ceased hath the noise of exulting ones, Ceased hath the joy of a harp.
8लोकांचे आनंदप्रदर्शन थांबले आहे. सगळे आनंददात थांबले आहेत. सांरगीतून आणि डफातून उठणारे आनंदसंगीत बंद पडले आहे.
9With a song they drink not wine, Bitter is strong drink to those drinking it.
9लोक मद्य पिताना आनंदगीते म्हणत नाहीत. मद्याची चव कडू झाली आहे.
10It was broken down — a city of emptiness, Shut hath been every house from entrance.
10“संपूर्ण गोंधळ” हेच नाव या शहराला शोभेल. शहराचा नाश झाला आहे. लोक घरात प्रवेश करू शकत नाहीत. दारांना अडसर घातले आहेत.
11A cry over the wine [is] in out-places, Darkened hath been all joy, Removed hath been the joy of the land.
11बाजारात लोक अजूनही मद्याची मागणी करतात पण त्यात पूर्वीचा आनंद नाही. सगळीच मजा गेली आहे.
12Left in the city [is] desolation, And [with] wasting is the gate smitten.
12सर्वत्र पडझड झाली आहे. वेशीसुध्दा कोलमडून पडल्या आहेत.
13When thus it is in the heart of the land, In the midst of the peoples, As the compassing of the olive, As gleanings when harvest hath been finished,
13सुगीच्या काळात, लोक जैतूनची फळे झाडावरून पाडतात. पण काही झाडावर राहतातच. अनेक देशांमध्ये असलेल्या ह्या देशाचे देखील असेच होईल.
14They — they lift up their voice, They sing of the excellency of Jehovah, They have cried aloud from the sea.
14वाचलेले लोक आरडाओरड सुरू करतील. त्यांचा आवाज महासागराच्या गर्जनेपेक्षा मोठा असेल. परमेश्वराची महानता पाहून ते आनंदित होतील.
15Therefore in prosperity honour ye Jehovah, In isles of the sea, the name of Jehovah, God of Israel.
15ते लोक म्हणतील, “पूर्वेकडच्या लोकांनो, परमेश्वराचे स्तवन करा. दूरच्या देशांतील लोकांनो, इस्राएलच्या परमेश्वर देवाचे स्तवन करा.”
16From the skirt of the earth we heard songs, The desire of the righteous. And I say, `Leanness [is] to me, Leanness [is] to me, wo [is] to me.` Treacherous dealers dealt treacherously, Yea, treachery, treacherous dealers dealt treacherously.
16जगाच्या कानाकोपऱ्यातून देवाचे स्तुतिस्तोत्र आपल्याला ऐकायला येतील. ह्या गीतांतून खऱ्या देवाची स्तुती असेल. पण मी म्हणतो, “पुरे पुष्कळ झाले. मी ज्या गोष्टी पाहतो त्या भयानक आहेत. लोकांच्या विरूध्द विश्वासघातकी उठले आहेत. व त्यांना त्रास देत आहेत.
17Fear, and a snare, and a gin, [Are] on thee, O inhabitant of the land.
17ह्या देशात राहणाऱ्या लोकांवर येणारे संकट मला दिसत आहे. त्यांची भीती, त्यांच्या पुढे असलेले खाचखळगे व सापळे मला दिसतात.
18And it hath come to pass, He who is fleeing from the noise of the fear Doth fall into the snare, And he who is coming up from the midst of the snare, Is captured by the gin, For windows on high have been opened, And shaken are foundations of the land.
18लोकांना संकटाची चाहूल लागून ते घाबरून जातील. काही लोक सैरावैरा पळतील. पण ते खाचखळग्यात पडतील आणि सापळ्यात अडकतील. त्यातील काही खड्ड्यातून चढून बाहेर येतील. पण ते दुसऱ्या सापळ्यात अडकतील,” आकाश फाटेल आणि प्रलय होईल. पृथ्वीचा पाय कापू लागेल.
19Utterly broken down hath been the land, Utterly broken hath been the land, Utterly moved hath been the land.
19धरणीकंप होऊन जमीन दुभंगेल.
20Stagger greatly doth the land as a drunkard, And it hath been moved as a lodge, And heavy on it hath been its transgression, And it hath fallen, and addeth not to rise.
20पृथ्वीला पापांचा भार झाला आहे. म्हणून ती त्या ओझ्याखाली दबून जाईल. पृथ्वी एखाद्या खिळखिळ्या झालेल्या घरासारखी उगमगेल. एखाद्या मद्यप्याप्रमाणे कोसळेल आणि पुन्हा उठणार नाही.
21And it hath come to pass, in that day, Jehovah layeth a charge on the host of the high place in the high place, And on the kings of the land on the land.
21त्या वेळी, परमेश्वर, स्वर्गातील सैन्यांचा स्वर्गात व पृथ्वीवरील राजांचा पृथ्वीवर, न्यायानिवाडा करील.
22And they have been gathered — A gathering of bound ones in a pit, And shut up they have been in a prison, And after a multitude of days are inspected.

23And confounded hath been the moon, And ashamed hath been the sun, For reigned hath Jehovah of Hosts In mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, And over-against His elders — honour!
23यरूशलेममधील सीयोन पर्वतावर परमेश्वराचे राज्य असेल. त्या देवाचे तेज नेत्यांना दिसेल. त्याच्या तेजापुढे चंद्र ओशाळेल आणि सूर्याला लाज वाटेल.
