¹And now, hear, O Jacob, My servant, And Israel, whom I have fixed on:

¹“याकोब, तू माझा सेवक आहेस. माझे ऐक इस्राएल, मी तुला निवडले आहे. मी काय म्हणतो ते ऐक.

²Thus said Jehovah, thy Maker, and thy Former, From the womb He doth help thee; Fear not, my servant Jacob, And Jeshurun, whom I have fixed on.

²मी परमेश्वर आहे. मी तुला निर्माण केले. तुला तुझे हे रूप देणारा मी आहे. तू आईच्या गर्भात असल्यापासून मी तुला मदत केली. याकोबा, माझ्या सेवका, घाबरू नकोस. यशुरूना, मी तुझी निवड केली.

³For I pour waters on a thirsty one, And floods on a dry land, I pour My Spirit on thy seed, And My blessing on thine offspring.

³“मी तहानेलेल्यांसाठी पाण्याचा वर्षाव करीन. मी कोरड्या जमिनीवर झरे निर्माण करीन. मी तुझ्या संततीमध्ये माझा आत्मा घालीन. आणि वंशजांना आशीर्वाद देईन. ते वाहत्या पाण्याच्या झऱ्याप्रमाणे असतील.

⁴And they have sprung up as among grass, As willows by streams of water.

⁴झऱ्याकाठी वाढणाऱ्या झाडांप्रमाणे ते जगातील लोकांत वाढतील.

⁵This [one] saith, For Jehovah I [am], And this calleth [himself] by the name of Jacob, And this [one] writeth [with] his hand, `For Jehovah,` and by the name of Israel surnameth himself.

⁵“एकजण म्हणेल, ‘मी परमेश्वराचा आहे’ दुसरा ‘याकोबचे’ नाव लावील आणखी एक आपली सही ‘मी परमेश्वराचा’ अशी करील, तर आणखी एक स्वत:ला ‘इस्राएल’ म्हणवून घेईल.”

⁶Thus said Jehovah, king of Israel, And his Redeemer, Jehovah of Hosts: `I [am] the first, and I the last, And besides Me there is no God.

⁶परमेश्वर इस्राएलचा राजा आहे सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर इस्राएलला वाचवितो. परमेश्वर म्हणतो, “मीच फक्त देव आहे. दुसरे कोणीही देव नाहीत. मीच आरंभ आहे आणि मीच अंत आहे.

⁷And who as I, doth call and declare it, And arrange it for Me, Since My placing the people of antiquity, And things that are coming, And those that do come, declare they to them?

⁷माझ्यासारखा दुसरा कोणीही देव नाही. जर असा कोणी असेल, तर त्याने आता बोलावे. त्याने यावे व तो माझ्यासारखा आहे हे सिध्द करावे. मी ह्या लोकांनी निर्माण केल्यापासून जे घडले आणि जे अनंत काळ घडत राहील ते काय ते त्याने मला सांगावे. भविष्यात काय घडणार आहे हे त्याला माहीत असल्याचे त्याने काही खुणेने पटवून द्यावे.

⁸Fear not, nor be afraid, Have I not from that time caused thee to hear, and declared? And ye [are] My witnesses, Is there a God besides Me? yea, there is none, A Rock I have not known.

⁸घाबरू नका. काळजी करू नका. मी काय घडणार हे नेहमीच तुम्हाला सांगितले आहे. तुम्ही लोक माझे साक्षीदार आहात. दुसरा कोणीही देव नाही. मीच एकमेव देव आहे. दुसरा कोणीही ‘खडक’ नाही. मला माहीत आहे की मी एकमेव आहे.”

⁹Framers of a graven image [are] all of them emptiness, And their desirable things do not profit, And their own witnesses they [are], They see not, nor know, that they may be ashamed.

⁹काही लोक मूर्ती करतात. (म्हणजेच खोटे देव करतात.) पण त्यांचा काही उपयोग नाही. लोक त्या मूर्तीवर प्रेम करतात पण त्यांना काही किंमत नाही. हे लोक त्या मूर्तीचे साक्षीदार आहेत पण ते काही पाहू शकत नाहीत. ते काही जाणत नाहीत. आपल्या कृत्यांबद्दल लज्जित व्हावे एवढेही ज्ञान त्यांना नाही.

¹⁰Who hath formed a god, And a molten image poured out — not profitable?

¹⁰हे खोटे देव कोणी घडवले? ह्या निरूपयोगी मूर्ती कोणी निर्माण केल्या?

¹¹Lo, all his companions are ashamed, As to artizans — they [are] of men, All of them gather together, they stand up, They fear, they are ashamed together.

¹¹कारगिरांनी त्या तयार केल्या. ते सर्व कारगीर माणसेच होती देव नव्हते. त्या सर्व लोकांनी एकत्र येऊन ह्या गोष्टीबद्दल विचार केला तर ते लज्जित होतील व घाबरतील.

¹²He hath wrought iron [with] an axe, And hath wrought with coals, And with hammers doth form it, And doth work it by his powerful arm, Yea, he is hungry, and there is no power, He doth not drink water, and he is wearied.

¹²एकजण लोखंड चिमट्यात धरून विस्तवावर तापवितो. मग तो त्यावर घणाचे घाव घालतो आणि त्यातून मूर्ती तयार होते. हा कारागीर आपल्या बळकट हातांचा उपयोग करतो पण तो उपाशी असताना त्याची शक्ती कमी होते. पाणी न मिळाल्यास तो अशक्त होतो.

¹³He hath wrought [with] wood, He hath stretched out a rule, He doth mark it out with a line, He maketh it with carving tools, And with a compass he marketh it out, And maketh it according to the form of a man, According to the beauty of a man, To remain in the house.

¹³दुसरा कारागीर ओळंबा आणि कर्कटक यांच्या साहाय्याने लाकडावर कापण्यासाठी रेषा आखून घेतो. मग छिन्नीने लाकडातून तो मूर्ती कोरतो. तो मोजपट्टीने मूर्तीचे मोजमाप करतो. अशा तऱ्हेने कारागीर हुबेहूब मनुष्याप्रमाणे दिसणारी मूर्ती करतो आणि ही माणसाची मूर्ती घरात बसून राहण्यापलीकडे काहीही करीत नाही.

¹⁴Cutting down to himself cedars, He taketh also a cypress, and an oak, And he strengtheneth [it] for himself Among the trees of a forest, He hath planted an ash, and the shower doth nourish [it].

¹⁴माणूस गंधसरू, देवदारू वा कधी कधी अल्लोनची झाडे तोडतो (त्या माणसाने ती झाडे वाढवलेली नव्हती. ती जंगलात आपल्या सामर्थ्याने वाढली. जर कोणी भद्रदारू लावला तर पावसामुळे तो वाढतो.)

¹⁵And it hath been for man to burn, And he taketh of them, and becometh warm, Yea, he kindleth [it], and hath baked bread, Yea, he maketh a god, and boweth himself, He hath made it a graven image, And he falleth down to it.

¹⁵तो ह्या झाडांचा उपयोग सरपणासाठी करतो. तो झाडांच्या बारीक ढलप्या करतो आणि त्यांचा उपयोग अन्न शिजविण्यासाठी व ऊबेसाठी करतो. एखाद्या लाकडाच्या ढलपीने अग्नी प्रज्वलित करून तो भाकरी भाजतो आणि त्याच लाकडाच्या तुकड्याचा उपयोग तो देवाची मूर्ती करण्यासाठी करतो व त्या देवाची पूजा करतो. तो देव म्हणजे माणसाने तयार केलेला पुतळा आहे. पण माणूस त्यापुढे नतमस्तक होतो.

¹⁶Half of it he hath burnt in the fire, By [this] half of it he eateth flesh, He roasteth a roasting, and is satisfied, Yea, he is warm, and saith: `Aha, I have become warm, I have enjoyed the light.

¹⁶माणूस अर्ध्याहून अधिक लाकूड जाळतो. अग्नीचा उपयोग तो अन्न स्वत:ला ऊबदार ठेवण्यासाठी तो करतो. मग तो म्हणतो, “छान! मला ऊब आली. अग्नीच्या प्रकाशात मी पाहूही शकतो.”

¹⁷And its remnant for a god he hath made — For his graven image, He falleth down to it, and worshippeth, And prayeth unto it, and he saith, `Deliver me, for my god thou [art].`

¹⁷पण थोडे लाकूड शिल्लक आहे. मग त्यापासून मूर्ती करून तो त्या मूर्तीलाच देव म्हणतो. तो तिच्यापुढे वाकतो आणि तिची पूजा करतो. तो प्रार्थना करतो, “तू माझा देव आहेस. माझे रक्षण कर.”

¹⁸They have not known, nor do they understand, For He hath daubed their eyes from seeing, Their heart from acting wisely.

¹⁸त्या लोकांना ते काय करीत आहे कळत नाही. त्यांना काही समजत नाही. जणू काही त्यांच्या डोळ्यावर पडदा पडला आहे, त्यामुळे ते पाहू शकत नाही. त्यांची हृदये (मने) समजून घ्यायचा प्रयत्न करीत नाहीत.

¹⁹And none doth turn [it] back unto his heart, Nor hath knowledge nor understanding to say, `Half of it I have burned in the fire, Yea, also, I have baked bread over its coals, I roast flesh and I eat, And its remnant for an abomination I make, To the stock of a tree I fall down.`

¹⁹त्यांनी ह्या गोष्टींचा कधीच विचार केला नाही. त्यांना काही समजत नसल्याने त्यांनी असा विचार केला नाही “अर्धे लाकूड मी जाळले. त्या विस्तवावर मी भाकरी भाजली, मांस शिजविले. मग मी जेवलो आणि उरलेल्या लाकडातून मी ही भयानक वस्तू तयार केली. मी लाकडाच्या ओंडक्याचीच पूजा करीत आहे.”

²⁰Feeding on ashes, the heart is deceived, It hath turned him aside, And he delivereth not his soul, nor saith: `Is there not a lie in my right hand?`

²⁰त्या माणसाला, तो काय करीत आहे, ते कळत नाही. तो गोंधळलेला आहे. त्यामुळे त्याचे मन त्याला चुकीच्या मार्गाने नेते. तो स्वत:ला वाचवू शकत नाही. तो चूक करतोय हे त्याला दिसत नाही. “मी हातात धरलेली मूर्ती म्हणजे खोटा देव आहे” असे तो म्हणणार नाही.

²¹Remember these, O Jacob, and Israel, For My servant thou [art], I formed thee, a servant to Me thou [art], O Israel, thou dost not forget Me.

²¹“याकोबा, ह्या गोष्टी लक्षात ठेव. इस्राएला, तू माझा सेवक आहेस. हे लक्षात ठेव. मी तुला निर्माण केले. तू माझा सेवक आहेस. म्हणून इस्राएल, तू मला विसरू नकोस.

²²I have blotted out, as [by] a thick cloud, Thy transgressions, And as [by] a cloud thy sins, Return unto Me, for I have redeemed thee.

²²तुझी पापे मोठ्या ढगासारखी होती. पण मी ती सर्व पुसून टाकली. ढग हवेत विरून जातो तशी तुझी पापे दिसेनाशी झाली. मी तुला सोडविले आणि तुझे रक्षण केले. म्हणून तू माझ्याकडे परत ये.”

²³Sing, O heavens, for Jehovah hath wrought, Shout, O lower parts of earth, Break forth, O mountains, with singing, Forest, and every tree in it, For Jehovah hath redeemed Jacob, And in Israel He doth beautify Himself.

²³परमेश्वराने महान गोष्टी केल्या म्हणून आकाश आनंदात आहे खोलवरची भूमीसुध्दा सुखात आहे. डोंगर गाण्यातून देवाचे आभार मानीत आहेत. रानातील सर्व वृक्ष आनंदात आहेत. का? कारण परमेश्वराने याकोबला वाचविले. परमेश्वराने इस्राएलसाठी फार मोठ्या गोष्टी केल्या.

²⁴Thus said Jehovah, thy redeemer, And thy framer from the womb: `I [am] Jehovah, doing all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself, Spreading out the earth — who [is] with Me?

²⁴तू आता आहेस तसा तुला परमेश्वराने बनविले. तू आईच्या गर्भात असताना परमेश्वराने हे केले. परमेश्वर म्हणतो, “मी, परमेश्वराने प्रत्येक गोष्ट निर्माण केली. मी स्वत: आकाश तेथे ठेवले आणि माझ्यासमोर जमीन पसरली.”

²⁵Making void the tokens of devisers, And diviners it maketh mad, Turning the wise backward, And their knowledge it maketh foolish.

²⁵खोटे संदेष्टे खोट्या गोष्टी सांगतात. पण परमेश्वर त्यांचा खोटेपणा उघड करतो. जादूटोणा करणाऱ्यांना परमेश्वर मूर्ख बनवितो. शहाण्यांनासुध्दा परमेश्वर गोंधळात टाकतो. त्यांना वाटते आपल्याला फार समजते पण देव त्यांना हास्यास्पद बनवितो. 26लोकांना संदेश देण्यासाठी परमेश्वर त्याच्या सेवकांना पाठवितो. आणि परमेश्वर त्या संदेशातील गोष्टी खऱ्या करून दाखवितो. लोकांनी काय करावे हे सांगण्यासाठी परमेश्वर दूत पाठवितो आणि त्यांचा सल्ला योग्य आहे हे परमेश्वर दाखवून देतो.

²⁶Confirming the word of His servant, The counsel of His messengers it perfecteth, Who is saying of Jerusalem, She is inhabited, And of cities of Judah, They shall be built, and her wastes I raise up,

²⁶परमेश्वर यरूशलेमला म्हणतो, “तुझ्यात परत लोक राहू लागतील.” परमेश्वर यहुदातील नगरांना म्हणतो, “तुमची पुनर्बांधणी होईल.” ज्या शहरांचा नाश झाला, त्या शहरांना परमेश्वर म्हणतो, “मी तुम्हाला परत शहराचे रूप देईन.”

²⁷Who is saying to the deep, Be dry, and thy rivers I cause to dry up,

²⁷परमेश्वर खोल पाण्याला आटून जायला सांगतो “तो म्हणतो की मी तुमचे झरे सुकवीन.”

²⁸Who is saying of Cyrus, My shepherd, And all my delight He doth perfect, So as to say of Jerusalem, Thou art built, And of the temple, Thou art founded.

²⁸परमेश्वर कोरेशला म्हणतो, “तू माझा मेंढपाळ आहेस. मला पाहिजे ते तू करशील. तू यरूशलेमला म्हणशील, ‘तुझी पुनर्बांधणी केली जाईल. ‘तू मंदिराला सांगशील, ‘तुझा पाया परत घातला जाईल.”‘
