¹Thus said Jehovah, `Go, and thou hast got a potter`s earthen vessel, and of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests,

¹परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला, “यिर्मया, जा आणि कुंभारकडून एक मातीचे मडके विकत घे.

²and thou hast gone forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, that [is] at the opening of the gate of the pottery, and hast proclaimed there the words that I speak unto thee,

²खापराच्या प्रवेशद्वाराजवळच्या बेन हिन्नोनच्या दरीकडे जा. काही वडीलधाऱ्यांना नेत्यांना आणि याजकांना तुझ्या बरोबर घे. मी तुला सांगतो त्या गोष्टी तेथे तू त्यांना सांग.

³and hast said, Hear a word of Jehovah, ye kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: `Lo, I am bringing in evil on this place, at which the ears of every one who is hearing it do tingle,

³तुझ्याबरोबर असलेल्या लोकांना सांग, ‘यहूदाच्या राजांनो आणि यरुशलेमच्या लोकांनो, परमेश्वराकडून आलेला संदेश ऐका. सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर, इस्राएल लोकांचा देव म्हणतो, “मी ह्या ठिकाणी लवकरच काहीतरी भयंकर घडवून आणि हे ऐकणारा प्रत्येकजण विस्मत होईल व घाबरुन जाईल.

⁴because that they have forsaken Me, and make known this place, and make perfume in it to other gods, that they knew not, they and their fathers, and the kings of Judah, and they have filled this place [with] innocent blood,

⁴यहूदातील लोकांनी मला अनुसरायचे सोडल्यामुळे मी हे घडवून आणीन. त्यांनी ही जागा परक्या दैवतांना दिली. त्यांनी येथे दुसऱ्या दैवतांना होमबली अर्पण केले. पूर्वी हे लोक त्या दैवतांना पूजत नव्हते. त्यांच्या पूर्वजांनीही ह्या दैवतांची पूजा केली नाही. हे दुसऱ्या देशातून आलेले दैवते आहेत. यहूदाच्या राजाने हे ठिकाण अश्राप बआलकांच्या रक्ताने भिजवून टाकले आहे.

⁵and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons with fire, burnt-offerings to Baal, that I commanded not, nor spake of, nor did it come up on My heart.

⁵यहूदाच्या राजाने बआल दैवतासाठी उच्चासने बांधली. लोक ह्या जागांचा उपयोग आपल्या मुलांना अग्नीत जाळण्यासाठी करतात. बआल दैवताला होमबली अर्पण केल्याप्रमाणे ते आपली मुले जाळतात. मी त्यांना असे करायला सांगितलेले नाही. मी तुमच्याजवळ तुमच्या मुलांचे बळी मागितलेले नाहीत. अशा कधीही माझ्या मनातही आल्या नाहीत.

⁶`Therefore, lo, days are coming — an affirmation of Jehovah — and this place is not called any more, Tophet, and Valley of the son of Hinnom, but, Valley of slaughter.

⁶हल्ली हिन्नोनच्या दरीला तोफेत म्हणतात. पण मी तुम्हाला खात्रीपूर्वक सांगतो की अशी वेळ येईल की, हा परमेश्वराकडून आलेला संदेश आहे, त्या वेळी ह्या दरीला लोक कत्तलीची दरी म्हणून ओळखतील.

⁷And I have made void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and have caused them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those seeking their life, and I have given their carcase for food to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth,

⁷येथेच मी यहूदातील व यरुशलेममधील रचलेले बेत हाणून पाडीन. त्या लोकांचा शत्रू पाठलाग करतील. मी ह्या ठिकाणी यहूदातील लोकांना तलवारीच्या घावांनी मरु देईन. त्यांची प्रेते गिधाडे व वन्य पशू ह्यांचे भक्ष्य होईल.

⁸and I have made this city for a desolation, and for a hissing, every passer by it is astonished, and doth hiss for all its plagues.

⁸ह्या नगरीचा मी पूर्णपणे नाश करीन. यरुशलेम जवळून जाताना लोक निराशेने माना हलवतील व सुस्कारे सोडतील अशा तऱ्हेने नगरीचा नाश झालेला पाहून त्यांना धक्का बसेल.

⁹And I have caused them to eat the flesh of their sons, and the flesh of their daughters, and each the flesh of his friend they do eat, in the siege and in the straitness with which straiten them do their enemies, and those seeking their life.

⁹नगरीला शत्रूसैन्याचा वेढा पडेल. ते सैन्य नगरीची रसद तोडेल. मग नगरीतील लोकांची उपासमार सुरु होईल. लोकांना एवढी भूक लागेल की ते स्वत:च्याच मुलांना खातील आणि एकमेकांना खायला लागतील.’

¹⁰`And thou hast broken the bottle before the eyes of the men who are going with thee,

¹⁰“यिर्मया, ह्या गोष्टी तू लोकांना सांग आणि लोक पाहत असतानाच हे मडके फोड.

¹¹and hast said unto them: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Thus do I break this people and this city, as one breaketh the potter`s vessel, that is not able to be repaired again, and in Tophet they bury — without place to bury;

¹¹त्या वेळी पुढील गोष्टी सांग: सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर म्हणतो, ‘कोणीतरी मातीचे मडके फोडावे त्याप्रमाणे मी यहूदा व यरुशलेमला फोडीन; हे मडके परत जोडता येणार नाही. यहूदाच्या बाबतही असेच होईल. तोफेतमध्ये इतक्या मृतांना पुरण्यात येईल की आणखी प्रेतांना पुरण्यास तेथे जागाच राहणार नाही.

¹²so I do to this place — an affirmation of Jehovah — and to its inhabitants, so as to make this city as Tophet;

¹²मी हे ह्या लोकांच्या बाबतीत ह्याच जागेवर घडवून आणीन. मी ह्या नगरीला तोफेतप्रमाणे करीन.’ हा परमेश्वराकडून आलेला संदेश आहे.

¹³and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, have been — as the place of Tophet — defiled, even all the houses on whose roofs they have made perfume to all the host of the heavens, so as to pour out oblations to other gods.`

¹³‘यरुशलेममधील घरे तोफेतप्रमाणे अपवित्र होतील. राजांचे राजवाडे पण तोफेतप्रमाणेच होतील. का? कारण लोकांनी त्या घराच्या छपरांवर खोट्या देवांची पूजा केली. त्यांनी ताऱ्यांना पूजले आणि त्यांच्याबद्दल आदर दाखविण्यासाठी हवी अर्पण केले. दैवतांना त्यांनी पेयेही अर्पण केली.”

¹⁴And Jeremiah cometh in from Tophet, whither Jehovah had sent him to prophesy, and he standeth in the court of the house of Jehovah, and he saith unto all the people:

¹⁴परमेश्वराने यिर्मयाला ज्या जागी प्रवचन देण्यास सांगितले होते ती जागा म्हणजे तोफेत यिर्मयाने सोडली. तो मग परमेश्वराच्या मंदिराकडे गेला आणि मंदिराच्या प्रांगणात उभा राहिला. यिर्मया सर्व लोकांना म्हणाला,

¹⁵`Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Lo, I am bringing in unto this city, and on all its cities, all the evil that I have spoken against it, for they have hardened their neck — not to hear My words!`

¹⁵“सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर, इस्राएलचा देव काय म्हणतो पाहा: ‘मी यरुशलेमवर आणि त्याच्या आजूबाजूच्या खेड्यांवर खूप अरिष्टे आणीन. लवकरच मी हे घडवून आणीन. का? कारण लोक फार हट्टी झाले आहेत. ते माझे ऐकत नाहीत आणि माझ्या आज्ञा पाळण्याचे नाकारतात.”
