¹Strengthen yourselves, sons of Benjamin, From the midst of Jerusalem, And in Tekoa blow ye a trumpet, And over Beth-Haccerem lift ye up a flame, For evil hath been seen from the north, And great destruction.

¹बन्यामीनच्या लोकांनो, जीव वाचविण्यासाठी पळा. यरुशलेमपासून दूर पळा. तकोवामध्ये तुतारी फुंका. बेथ-हक्करेमवर धोक्याचा इशारा देणारे निशाण उभारा. हे सर्व करा कारण उत्तरेकडून अरिष्ट येत आहे. भयानक नाश तुमच्याकडे येत आहे.

²The comely and the delicate one I have cut off, The daughter of Zion.

²सियोनच्या कन्ये, तू सुंदर कुरणासारखी आहेस.

³Unto her come do shepherds and their droves, They have stricken tents by her round about, They have fed each [in] his own station.

³मेंढपाळ आपापले कळप घेऊन यरुशलेमला येतात. ते तिच्या सर्व बाजूंना तंबू ठोकतात. प्रत्येक मेंढपाळ स्वत:च्या कळपाची काळजी घेतो.

⁴Sanctify ye against her the battle, Rise, and we go up at noon. Wo to us, for turned hath the day, For stretched out are the shades of evening,

⁴“यरुशलेमविरुद्ध लढण्यास तयार व्हा. उठा! आपण दुपारी नगरावर हल्ला करु पण आधीच उशीर होत आहे. संध्याछाया लांबत आहेत.

⁵`Rise, and we go up by night, And we destroy her palaces.`

⁵म्हणून उठा! आपण रात्रीच तिच्यावर हल्लाकरु या व यरुशलेमच्या भक्कम तटबंदीचा नाश करु या.”

⁶For thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Cut down her wood, And pour out against Jerusalem a mount, She [is] the city to be inspected, Wholly — she is oppression in her midst.

⁶सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर असे म्हणतो, “यरुशलेमच्या भोवतालची झाडे कापा आणि तिच्याविरुद्ध मोर्चा बांधा. ह्या नगरीला शिक्षा व्हावीच ह्या नगरीच्या आत जुलुमाशिवाय काहीही नाही.

⁷As the digging of a well, is [for] its waters, So she hath digged [for] her wickedness, Violence and spoil is heard in her, Before My face continually [are] sickness and smiting.

⁷जशी विहीर आपले पाणी ताजे ठेवते, तशीच यरुशलेम आपला दुष्टपणा ताजा ठेवते. मी नेहमीच येथील लूटमार व हिंसाचार याबद्दल ऐकतो. मी येथे सदोदित पीडा आणी घृणा पाहतो.

⁸Be instructed, O Jerusalem, Lest My soul be alienated from thee, Lest I make thee a desolation, a land not inhabited.

⁸यरुशलेम, धोक्याचा इशारा ऐक. जर तू ऐकले नाहीस तर मी तुझ्याकडे पाठ फिरवीन, तुझ्या भूमीचे ओसाड वाळवंट करीन. येथे कोणीही राहू शकणार नाही.”

⁹Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: They surely glean, as a vine, the remnant of Israel, Put back thy hand, as a gatherer to the baskets.

⁹सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर असे म्हणतो “इस्राएलमध्ये मागे उरलेल्या इस्राएली लोकांना गोळा करा. द्राक्षवेलींवरची उरलेली द्राक्षे तुम्ही जशी गोळा करता, तसे त्यांना गोळा करा.” द्राक्ष गोळा करणारा जसा प्रत्येक वेल तपासतो, तशी तुम्ही प्रत्येकाची तपासणी करा.”

¹⁰To whom do I speak, and testify, and they hear? Lo, their ear [is] uncircumcised, And they are not able to attend. Lo, a word of Jehovah hath been to them for a reproach, They delight not in it.

¹⁰मी कोणाशी बोलू शकतो? मी कोणाला इशारा देऊ शकतो? माझे कोण ऐकेल? इस्राएलच्या लोकांनी आपले कान बंद करुन घेतले आहेत. म्हणून ते माझा इशारा ऐकू शकत नाहीत. लोकांना परमेश्वराची शिकवण आवडत नाही. त्यांना परमेश्वराचा संदेश ऐकावासा वाटत नाही.

¹¹And with the fury of Jehovah I have been filled, (I have been weary of containing,) To pour [it] on the suckling in the street, And on the assembly of youths together, For even husband with wife are captured, An elder with one full of days,

¹¹पण माझ्यात (यिर्मयात) परमेश्वराचा राग पूर्ण भरला आहे. “तो आतल्या आत दाबून धरण्याचा मला आता कंटाळा आला आहे. रस्त्यावर खेळणाऱ्या मुलांवर, एकत्र जमलेल्या तरुणांवर परमेश्वराचा राग ओत. पुरुष व त्याची बायको असे दोघही, तसेच सर्व म्हातारे पकडले जातील.

¹²And their houses have been turned to others, Fields and wives together, For I stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land, An affirmation of Jehovah.

¹²त्यांची घरे दुसऱ्यांना दिली जातील. त्यांची शेते व त्यांच्या बायका दुसऱ्यांना दिल्या जातील. मी माझा हात उगारीन आणि यहूदातील लोकांना शिक्षा करीन.” हा परमेश्वराचा संदेश होता.

¹³For from their least unto their greatest, Every one is gaining dishonest gain, And from prophet even unto priest, Every one is dealing falsely,

¹³“इस्राएलमधल्या सर्व लोकांना जास्तीच जास्त पैसा पाहिजे. अति महत्वाचे व अति सामान्य, सर्व सारखेच आहेत. संदेष्ट्यांपासून याजकापर्यंत सर्व खोटे बोलतात.

¹⁴And they heal the breach of the daughter of my people slightly, Saying, `Peace, peace!` and there is no peace.

¹⁴माझे लोक अतिशय वाईटरीतीने दुखवले जात आले आहेत. संदेष्ट्यांनी आणि याजकांनी त्यांच्या जखमा बांधाव्यात. पण ते तर त्या जखमावर, किरकोळ खरचटल्यावर करतात त्याप्रमाणे इलाज करतात. ते म्हणतात, ‘ठीक आहे, ठीक आहे ‘पण हे ठीक नाही.

¹⁵They were ashamed when they did abomination! Yea, they are not at all ashamed, Yea, blushing they have not known, Therefore they do fall among those falling, In the time I have inspected them, They stumble, said Jehovah.

¹⁵संदेष्ट्यांना आणि याजकांना त्यांनी केलेल्या दुष्कृत्यांबद्दल लाज वाटली पाहिजे. पण त्यांना अजिबात लाज वाटत नाही. आपल्या दुष्कृत्यांची शरम वाटण्याएवढीही त्यांना जाणीव नाही. म्हणून बाकीच्याबरोबर त्यांना शिक्षा होईल. मी जेव्हा लोकांना शिक्षा करीन तेव्हा हे सर्वजण जमिनीवर फेकले जातील.” परमेश्वराने ह्या गोष्टी सांगितल्या.

¹⁶Thus said Jehovah: Stand ye by the ways and see, and ask for paths of old, Where [is] this — the good way? and go ye in it, And find rest for yourselves. And they say, `We do not go.`

¹⁶परमेश्वर पुढील गोष्टी सांगतो: “चौकात उभे राहा आणि पाहा. जुना रस्ता कोणता ते विचारा. चांगल्या रस्त्याची चौकशी करा व चांगल्या रस्त्यावरुन चाला. तुम्ही असे केल्यास तुमचा तुम्हाला विश्वास सापडेल. पण तुम्ही लोक म्हणाला आहात की, ‘आम्ही चांगल्या रस्त्यावरुन चालणार नाही.’

¹⁷And I have raised up for you watchmen, Attend ye to the voice of the trumpet. And they say, `We do not attend.`

¹⁷तुमच्यावर लक्ष ठेवण्यासाठी मी रखवालदार निवडले. मी त्यांना सांगितले, ‘रणशिंगाचा आवाज ऐका.’ पण ते म्हणाले, ‘आम्ही ऐकणार नाही.’

¹⁸Therefore hear, O nations, and know, O company, That which [is] upon them.

¹⁸तेव्हा सर्व राष्ट्रांनो, ऐका! त्या देशातील लोकांनो, लक्ष द्या.

¹⁹Hear, O earth, lo, I am bringing evil on this people, The fruit of their devices, For to My words they gave no attention, And My law — they kick against it.

¹⁹पृथ्वीवरच्या लोकांनो, ऐका! यहुदातील लोकांवर मी अरिष्ट आणणार आहे. का? कारण त्यांनी हेतूपूर्वक दुष्कृत्ये केली. माझ्या संदेशाकडे दुर्लक्ष केले, माझ्या आज्ञांचे पालन करण्याचे नाकारले.”

²⁰Why [is] this to Me? frankincense from Sheba cometh, And the sweet cane from a land afar off, Your burnt-offerings [are] not for acceptance, And your sacrifices have not been sweet to Me.

²⁰परमेश्वर म्हणतो, “तुम्ही शेबाहून माझ्यासाठी धूप कशाला आणता? दूरवरच्या देशातून सुगंधी काड्या कशाला आणता? तुम्ही आणलेल्या ह्या अग्नीत अर्पण करण्याच्या गोष्टी मला आनंदित करीत नाहीत. तुमचे यज्ञ मला संतुष्ट करीत नाहीत.”

²¹Therefore thus said Jehovah: Lo, I do give to this people stumbling blocks, And stumbled against them have fathers and sons together, The neighbour and his friend do perish.

²¹मग परमेश्वर पुढे असे म्हणतो: “मी यहूदाच्या लोकांपुढे अडचणी निर्माण करीन. त्या वाटेत असलेल्या दगडाप्रमाणे असतील. वाटेतल्या दगडाला अडखळून लोक पडतात, त्याप्रमाणे वडील व मुले अडखळून पडतील. मित्र आणि शेजारी मरतील.”

²²Thus said Jehovah: Lo, a people hath come from a north country, And a great nation is stirred up from the sides of the earth.

²²परमेश्वर पुढे असे म्हणतो: “उत्तरेकडून सैन्य येत आहे. पृथ्वीवरच्या अतीदूरच्या ठिकाणाहून मोठे राष्ट्र येत आहे.

²³Bow and javelin they take hold of, Fierce it [is], and they have no mercy, Their voice as a sea doth sound, And on horses they ride, set in array as a man of war, Against thee, O daughter of Zion.

²³त्या सैनिकांजवळ धनुष्यबाण आहेत. ते क्रूर आहेत. त्यांना दया माहीत नाही. ते खूप शक्तिशाली आहेत. ते घोड्यावर स्वार होऊन येतात, तेव्हा समुद्राच्या गर्जनेसारखा आवाज येतो. ते युद्धाच्या तयारीने येत आहेत. सियोनच्या कन्ये, ते सैन्य तुझ्यावर हल्ला करण्यासाठी येत आहे.

²⁴`We have heard its sound, feeble have been our hands, Distress hath seized us, pain as of a travailing woman.

²⁴त्या सैन्याची बातमी आम्ही ऐकली आहे. आम्ही भीतीने गर्भगळीत झालो आहोत. आम्ही अडचणीत सापडलो आहोत असे वाटते. प्रसूती होणाऱ्या स्त्रीप्रमाणे आमची स्थिती झाली आहे.

²⁵Go not forth to the field, And in the way walk not, For a sword hath the enemy, fear [is] round about.

²⁵बाहेर शेतात जाऊ नका. रस्त्यावर जाऊ नका. का? कारण शत्रूजवळ तलवारी आहेत आणि सगळीकडे धोका आहे.

²⁶O daughter of My people, Gird on sackcloth, and roll thyself in ashes, The mourning of an only one make for thee, A lamentation most bitter, For suddenly come doth the spoiler against us.

²⁶माझ्या लोकांनो, शोकवस्त्रे घाला. राखेत लोळा. मृतांसाठी आक्रोश करा. एकुलता एक मुलगा गेल्याप्रमाणे आकांत करा. कारण नाश करणारा अगदी लवकरच आपल्याकडे येईल.

²⁷A watch-tower I have given thee, Among My people a fortress, And thou knowest, and hast tried their way.

²⁷“यिर्मया, मी (देवाने) तुला धातू पारखणाऱ्याप्रमाणे केले आहे. तू माझ्या लोकांची परीक्षा कर आणि ते कसे जगतात त्यावर नजर ठेव.

²⁸All of them are turned aside by apostates, Walking slanderously — brass and iron, All of them are corrupters.

²⁸माझे लोक माझ्याविरुद्ध गेले आहेत आणि ते दुराग्रही आहेत. ते लोकांबद्दल खोट्या गोष्टी बोलतात. ते सर्व दुष्ट आहेत. ते गंजलेल्या व कलंकित झालेल्या जस्त वा लोखंडाप्रमाणे आहेत.

²⁹The bellows have been burnt, By fire hath the lead been consumed, In vain hath a refiner refined, And the wicked have not been drawn away.

²⁹चांदी शुद्ध करणाऱ्या कारागिराप्रमाणे ते आहेत. फुंकणीने जोरात फुंकताच विस्तवाचा जाळ झाला आणि त्यातून शिसे बाहेर आले. चांदी शुध्द करण्याच्या प्रयत्नात त्या कारागिराने आपला वेळ वाया घालविला. त्याचप्रमाणे माझ्या लोकांमधून दुष्टपणा काढला गेला नाही.

³⁰`Silver rejected,` they have called to them, For Jehovah hath kicked against them!

³⁰माझ्या लोकांना, ‘टोकाऊ चांदी’ असे म्हटले जाईल. देवाने त्यांचा स्वीकार केला नाही म्हणून त्यांना हे नाव दिले जाईल.”
