1Wherefore from the Mighty One Times have not been hidden, And those knowing Him have not seen His days.
1“त्या सर्वशक्तिमान देवाला माणसाच्या आयुष्यातल्या सर्व गोष्टी कशा माहीत असतात? परंतु त्याच्या भक्तांना मात्र त्याच्याबद्दल काहीच माहीत नसते.”
2The borders they reach, A drove they have taken violently away, Yea, they do evil.
2“लोक शेतातली हद्द दर्शविणाऱ्या खुणा जास्त जमीन मिळवण्यासाठी सरकवतात. लोक पशूंचे कळप चोरुन दुसऱ्या रानात चरायला नेतात.
3The ass of the fatherless they lead away, They take in pledge the ox of the widow,
3ते अनाथ मुलांची गाढवे चोरतात. ते विधवेची गाय पळवून नेतात आणि त्यांच्या ऋणाची ती जोपर्यंत परतफेड करत नाही तोपर्यंत ती गाय आपल्याकडे ठेवून घेतात.
4They turn aside the needy from the way, Together have hid the poor of the earth.
4ते गरीब लोकांना घरादाराशिवाय इकडे तिकडे हिंडायला लावतात. सगळ्या गरीबांना या दुष्टांपासून लपून राहावे लागते.
5Lo, wild asses in a wilderness, They have gone out about their work, Seeking early for prey, A mixture for himself — food for young ones.
5“गरीब लोक वाळवंटात हिंडून अन्न शोधणाऱ्या मोकाट गाढवाप्रमाणे आहेत ते अन्नाच्या शोधात लवकर उठतात. ते मुलाबाळांना अन्न देण्यासाठी रात्रीपर्यंत काम करतात.
6In a field his provender they reap, And the vineyard of the wicked they glean.
6गरीब लोकांना शेतात गवत आणि चारा कापत रात्रीपर्यंत काम करावे लागते. त्यांना श्रीमंतांच्या शेतातली द्राक्षे वेचावी लागतात.
7The naked they cause to lodge Without clothing. And there is no covering in the cold.
7त्यांना रात्री कपड्यांशिवाय झोपावे लागते. थंडीपासून रक्षण करण्यासाठी त्यांच्याजवळ पांघरुण नसते.
8From the inundation of hills they are wet, And without a refuge — have embraced a rock.
8ते डोंगरावर पावसात भिजतात. थंडीवाऱ्यापासून रक्षण करण्यासाठी त्यांच्याजवळ काही नसते म्हणून ते मोठ्या खडकांना चिकटून बसतात.
9They take violently away From the breast the orphan, And on the poor they lay a pledge.
9दुष्ट लोक स्तनपान करणारे बाळ आईजवळून घेतात. ते गरीबाच्या त्याने काढलेल्या कर्जाबद्दल तारण म्हणून ठेवून घेतात.
10Naked, they have gone without clothing, And hungry — have taken away a sheaf.
10गरीबांजवळ कपडे नसतात. म्हणून काम करताना ते उघडेच असतात. ते दुष्टांसाठी धान्याच्या पेढं्या वाहतात पण स्वत: मात्र उपाशीच राहतात.
11Between their walls they make oil, Wine-presses they have trodden, and thirst.
11ते आँलिव्हचे तेल काढतात. द्राक्षाचा रस काढतात. व त्यासाठी द्राक्षकुंडात द्राक्षं तुडवतात. परंतु त्यांच्याजवळ मात्र पिण्यासाठी काही नसते.
12Because of enmity men do groan, And the soul of pierced ones doth cry, And God doth not give praise.
12शहरात मरायला टेकलेल्या माणसांचे दु:खद रडणे ऐकू येते ते दु:खी कष्टी लोक मदतीसाठी हाका मारतात. परंतु देव ते ऐकत नाही.
13They have been among rebellious ones of light, They have not discerned His ways, Nor abode in His paths.
13“काही लोक प्रकाशाविरुद्द बंड करतात. देवाला काय हवे आहे हे जाणून घ्यायची त्यांची इच्छा नसते. देवाच्या इच्छेप्रमाणे जगणे त्यांना आवडत नाही.
14At the light doth the murderer rise, He doth slay the poor and needy, And in the night he is as a thief.
14खुनी सकाळी लवकर उठतो आणि गरीब व असहाय्य लोकांना ठार मारतो. तो रात्रीच्या वेळी चोर बनतो.
15And the eye of an adulterer Hath observed the twilight, Saying, `No eye doth behold me.` And he putteth the face in secret.
15ज्या माणसाला व्यभिचार करायचा आहे तो रात्रीची वाट बघतो. ‘मला कुणीही बघणार नाही’ असे त्याला वाटते.’ पण तरीही तो त्याचा चेहरा झाकतो.
16He hath dug in the darkness — houses; By day they shut themselves up, They have not known light.
16रात्रीच्या वेळी अंधार असतो तेव्हा दुष्ट लोक दुसऱ्यांची घरे फोडतात. पण दिवसा ते स्वत:ला त्यांच्या घरांत कोंडून घेतात. ते प्रकाशाला टाळतात.
17When together, morning [is] to them death shade, When he discerneth the terrors of death shade.
17त्या दुष्टांना काळीकुटृ रात्र सकाळसारखी वाटते. त्या भयंकर काळोखाची भयानकता त्यांना चांगलीच माहीत असते.
18Light he [is] on the face of the waters, Vilified is their portion in the earth, He turneth not the way of vineyards.
18“पुरात जशा वस्तू वाहून जातात तशी दुष्ट माणसे वाहून नेली जातात. त्यांनी त्यांच्या शेतात द्राक्ष गोळा करु नयेत म्हणून त्यांच्या जमिनीला शाप दिला जातो.
19Drought — also heat — consume snow-waters, Sheol [those who] have sinned.
19हिवाळ्यातल्या बफर्पासून मिळालेले त्यांचे पाणी उष्ण आणि कोरडी हवा शोषून घेते. त्याप्रमाणे त्या पापी लोकांना थडग्यात नेले जाते.
20Forget him doth the womb, Sweeten [on] him doth the worm, No more is he remembered, And broken as a tree is wickedness.
20हा दुष्ट माणूस मरेल आणि त्याची आईदेखील त्याला विसरुन जाईल. त्याची प्रेयसी म्हणजे त्याचे शरीर खाणारे किडे असतील. लोक त्याची आठवण ठेवणार नाहीत. त्यामुळे दुष्टपणा लाकडासारखा मोडून पडेल.
21Treating evil the barren [who] beareth not, And [to] the widow he doth no good,
21दुष्ट माणसे वांझ बायकांना त्रास देतात आणि ते विधवांना मदत करायचे नाकारतात.
22And hath drawn the mighty by his power, He riseth, and none believeth in life.
22सामर्थ्यवान लोकांना नष्ट करण्यासाठी दुष्ट आपली शक्ती खर्ची घालतात. दुष्ट माणसे सामर्थ्यवान बनू शकतात परंतु त्यांना त्यांच्या आयुष्याची खात्री नसते.
23He giveth to him confidence, and he is supported, And his eyes [are] on their ways.
23दुष्टांना थोड्या वेळासाठी सुरक्षित आणि निर्धास्त वाटते. आपण सामर्थ्यवान व्हावे असे त्यांना वाटते.
24High they were [for] a little, and they are not, And they have been brought low. As all [others] they are shut up, And as the head of an ear of corn cut off.
24दुष्ट लोक थोड्या काळापुरते यशस्वी होतात. परंतु नंतर ते जातात. धान्याप्रमाणे त्यांची कापणी होते, इतर लोकांप्रमाणे दुष्टांनादेखील कापले जाते.
25And if not now, who doth prove me a liar, And doth make of nothing my word?
25“या गोष्टी खऱ्या आहेत हे मी शपर्थपूर्वक सांगतो. मी खोटे बोललो हे कोण सिध्द करेल? मी चुकलो हे कोण दाखवेल?”
