¹And a messenger of Jehovah goeth up from Gilgal unto Bochim,

¹परमेश्वराचा दूत गिलगाल नगरातून बोखीम या नगरात आला. इस्राएल लोकांना त्याने परमेश्वराचा संदेश सांगितला. संदेश असा होता; “मी तुम्हाला मिसरमधून बाहेर आणले. तुमच्या पूर्वजांना वचन दिलेल्या प्रदेशापर्यंत तुम्हाला आणले. तुमच्याशी केलेला करार मी मोडणार नाही असे मी तुम्हाला सांगितले होते.

²and saith, `I cause you to come up out of Egypt, and bring you in unto the land which I have sworn to your fathers, and say, I do not break My covenant with you to the age; and ye — ye make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land — their altars ye break down; and ye have not hearkened to My voice — what [is] this ye have done?

²त्यामुळे तुम्ही त्या प्रदेशात राहणाऱ्यां लोकांशी करार करू नका. त्यांच्या वेद्यां उध्वस्त करा असे मी तुम्हाला स्पष्ट सांगितले होते, पण तुम्ही माझे ऐकले नाही.”

³And I also have said, I do not cast them out from your presence, and they have been to you for adversaries, and their gods are to you for a snare.`

³“म्हणून मी म्हणतो, “आता या लोकांना त्यांचा देश सोडून जायला मी भाग पाडणार नाही. तुमच्यापुढे ते समस्या निर्माण करतील. त्यांचा पाश तुमच्याभोवती पडेल. त्यांच्या खोठ्या देवता जाळ्यांप्रमाणे तुम्हाला अडकवून टाकतील.”’

⁴And it cometh to pass, when the messenger of Jehovah speaketh these words unto all the sons of Israel, that the people lift up their voice and weep,

⁴देवदूताने परमेश्वराचा हा संदेश इस्राएल लोकांना ऐकवल्यावर ते आक्रोश करु लागले.

⁵and they call the name of that place Bochim, and sacrifice there to Jehovah.

⁵म्हणून त्या ठिकाणाचे नाव त्यांनी बोखीम असे ठेवले. बोखीम येथे त्यांनी परमेश्वरासाठी यज्ञ केले.

⁶And Joshua sendeth the people away, and the sons of Israel go, each to his inheritance, to possess the land;

⁶मग यहोशवाने सर्वाना घरी जायला सांगितले. तेव्हा सर्व वंशांचे लोक आपापल्या वतनाचा ताबा घ्यायाला परतले.

⁷and the people serve Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, who saw all the great work of Jehovah which He did to Israel.

⁷यहोशवाच्या हयातीत आणि त्याच्या मृत्यूनंतर. वडीलधारी मंडळी जिवंत असे पर्यंत इस्राएलचे लोक परमेश्वराची उपासना करत होते. या वृध्द मंडळीनी परमेश्वराने इस्राएल लोकांसाठी केलेल्या महान गोष्टी पाहिल्या होत्या.

⁸And Joshua son of Nun, servant of Jehovah, dieth, a son of a hundred and ten years,

⁸परमेश्वराचा सेवक नूनपुत्र यहोशवा एकशेदहा वर्षाचा होऊन वाराला.

⁹and they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of mount Gaash;

⁹इस्राएल लोकांनी त्याचे दफन केले. तिम्राथ-हेरेम येथे, गाश डोंगराच्या उत्तरेस एफ्राईमच्या डोंगराळ प्रदेशात त्याला मिळालेल्या जमिनीत त्याला त्यांनी पुरले.

¹⁰and also all that generation have been gathered unto their fathers, and another generation riseth after them who have not known Jehovah, and even the work which He hath done to Israel.

¹⁰जुन्या पिढीतील सर्व मृत्यू पावल्यानंतर नवीन पिढी पुढे आली. त्यांना परमेश्वराविषयी आणि परमेश्वराने इस्राएल लोकांसाठी काय केले याविषयी काहीही माहिती नव्हती.

¹¹And the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and serve the Baalim,

¹¹तेव्हा या इस्राएल लोकांनी परमेश्वराच्या दृष्टीने वाईट अशी दृष्कृत्ये केली आणि बआल या दैवताच्या भजनी लागले. हे निंद्य कृत्य करताना त्यांना परमेश्वराने पाहिले.

¹²and forsake Jehovah, God of their fathers, who bringeth them out from the land of Egypt, and go after other gods (of the gods of the peoples who [are] round about them), and bow themselves to them, and provoke Jehovah,

¹²परमेश्वराने इस्राएल लोकांना मिसरमधून बाहेर आणले होते. आणि त्यांच्या पूर्वजांनी परमेश्वराची उपासना केली होती. पण आता या इस्राएल लोकांनी परमेश्वराचे अनुसरण करण्याचे सोडून दिले होते. आणि त्यांच्या अवती भोवतीच्या लोकांच्या खोठ्या दैवतांची पूजा करायला सुरुवात केली होती. याचा परमेश्वराला संताप आला.

¹³yea, they forsake Jehovah, and do service to Baal and to Ashtaroth.

¹³इस्राएल लोकांनी आता परमेश्वराला सोडून बआल आणि अष्टारोथ यांची उपासना करायला सुरुवात केली.

¹⁴And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He giveth them into the hand of spoilers, and they spoil them, and He selleth them into the hand of their enemies round about, and they have not been able any more to stand before their enemies;

¹⁴परमेश्वराचा इस्राएल लोकांवर कोप झाल्यामुळे त्यांच्यावर शत्रू चाल करुन येऊ लागला व त्यांना लुटू लागला. भोवताली राहणाऱ्या शत्रूंकडून ते पराभूत होऊ लागले. इस्राएल लोकांना शत्रूपासून आपले रक्षण करता येईना.

¹⁵in every [place] where they have gone out, the hand of Jehovah hath been against them for evil, as Jehovah hath spoken, and as Jehovah hath sworn to them, and they are distressed — greatly.

¹⁵लढाईत त्यांना नेहमी अपयश येऊ लागले. परमेश्वराची साथ आता त्यांना नसल्यामुळे ते पराजित होऊ लागले. त्यांच्या भोवती राहणाऱ्या लोकांच्या दैवतांची सेवा केल्यास इस्राएल लोकांना पराभव पत्करावा लागेल हे परमेश्वराने आधीच बजावले होते.

¹⁶And Jehovah raiseth up judges, and they save them from the hand of their spoilers;

¹⁶तेव्हा परमेश्वराने न्यायाधीश म्हणून, ओळखल्या जाणाऱ्या नेत्यांची नेमणूक केली. हे नेते इस्राएलांचा ताबा घेणाऱ्या शत्रुंपासून त्यांची सुटका करीत.

¹⁷and also unto their judges they have not hearkened, but have gone a-whoring after other gods, and bow themselves to them; they have turned aside [with] haste out of the way [in] which their fathers walked to obey the commands of Jehovah — they have not done so.

¹⁷इस्राएल लोक या न्यायाधीशांनाही जुमानीतनासे झाले. आपल्या परमेश्वराशी इस्राएल लोक निष्ठावंत राहिले नाहीत ते इतर दैवतांच्या भजनी लागले. पूर्वी या इस्राएल लोकांचे पूर्वज परमेश्वराच्या आज्ञा पाळत असत. पण आता त्यांच्या वागणुकीत बदल झाला आणि परमेश्वराने सांगितलेला मार्ग त्यांनी सोडून दिला.

¹⁸And when Jehovah raised up to them judges — then was Jehovah with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it repenteth Jehovah, because of their groaning from the presence of their oppressors, and of those thrusting them away.

¹⁸अनेकदा शत्रु इस्राएलांचा जाच करत. अशावेळी ते मदतीलाठी परमेश्वराचा धावा करीत आणि तेव्हा त्यांची दया येऊन परमेश्वर त्यांच्या सुटकेसाठी न्यायाधीशाला पाठवी. परमेश्वर या न्यायाधीशांच्या बरोबर होता. म्हणून इस्राएल लोकांचे दरवेळी शत्रूपासून रक्षण झाले.

¹⁹And it hath come to pass, at the death of the judge — they turn back and have done corruptly above their fathers, to go after other gods, to serve them, and to bow themselves to them; they have not fallen from their doings, and from their stiff way.

¹⁹पण प्रत्येक न्यायाधीशाच्या मृत्यूनंतर ते पुन्हा पुन्हा पापाकडे झुकत आणि अन्य दैवतांची उपासना करत आणि त्यांची सेवा करत असत. त्यांच्या पूर्वजांपेक्षाही ते अधिक वाईट वागत असत. त्यांच्या आडमुठ्या स्वभावामुळे आपल्या दुर्वतनात फरक करायाला त्यांनी नकार दिला.

²⁰And the anger of Jehovah doth burn against Israel, and He saith, `Because that this nation have transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened to My voice —

²⁰तेव्हा परमेश्वाराचा इस्राएल लोकांवर अतिशय संताप झाला व तो म्हणाला, “मी यांच्या पूर्वजांशी केलेला करार या राष्ट्राने मोडला आहे. त्यांनी माझे ऐकले नाही.

²¹I also continue not to dispossess any from before them of the nations which Joshua hath left when he dieth,

²¹तेव्हा मी यापुढे त्यांच्या शत्रूंचा पराभव करुन इस्राएल लोकांचा मार्ग मोकळा करत जाणार नाही. यहोशवा वारला तेव्हा जी राष्ट्रे या भूमीत होती त्यांना मी येथेच राहू देईन.

²²in order to try Israel by them, whether they are keeping the way of Jehovah, to go in it, as their fathers kept [it] or not.`

²²इस्राएल लोकांच्या कसोटीसाठी मी या राष्ट्रांचा वापर करीन. आपल्या पूर्वजांप्रमाणे आताचे इस्राएल लोक परमेश्वराची आज्ञा पाळतात का ते बघू.”

²³And Jehovah leaveth these nations, so as not to dispossess them hastily, and did not give them into the hand of Joshua.

²³तेव्हा परमेश्वराने इतर राष्ट्रांना त्या त्या ठिकाणी राहू दिले. त्यांना तो देश लगेच सोडून जायची बळजबरी केली नाही. त्यांचा पराभव करायला परमेश्वराने यहोशवाच्या सैन्याला साहाय्य केले नाही.
