¹And having entered, he was passing through Jericho,

¹Yesu aliingia mjini Yeriko, akawa anapita katika njia za mji huo.

²and lo, a man, by name called Zaccheus, and he was a chief tax-gatherer, and he was rich,

²Kulikuwa na mtu mmoja mjini, jina lake Zakayo ambaye alikuwa mkuu wa watoza ushuru tena mtu tajiri.

³and he was seeking to see Jesus, who he is, and was not able for the multitude, because in stature he was small,

³Alitaka kuona Yesu alikuwa nani, lakini kwa sababu ya umati wa watu, na kwa vile alikuwa mfupi, hakufaulu.

⁴and having run forward before, he went up on a sycamore, that he may see him, because through that [way] he was about to pass by.

⁴Hivyo, alitangulia mbio, akapanda juu ya mkuyu ili aweze kumwona Yesu, kwa maana alikuwa apitie hapo.

⁵And as Jesus came up to the place, having looked up, he saw him, and said unto him, `Zaccheus, having hastened, come down, for to-day in thy house it behoveth me to remain;`

⁵Basi, Yesu alipofika mahali pale, aliangalia juu akamwambia, "Zakayo, shuka upesi, maana leo ni lazima nishinde nyumbani mwako."

⁶and he having hastened did come down, and did receive him rejoicing;

⁶Zakayo akashuka haraka, akamkaribisha kwa furaha.

⁷and having seen [it], they were all murmuring, saying — `With a sinful man he went in to lodge!`

⁷Watu wote walipoona hayo, wakaanza kunung'unika wakisema, "Amekwenda kukaa kwa mtu mwenye dhambi."

⁸And Zaccheus having stood, said unto the Lord, `Lo, the half of my goods, sir, I give to the poor, and if of any one anything I did take by false accusation, I give back fourfold.`

⁸Lakini Zakayo akasimama akamwambia Yesu, "Sikiliza Bwana! Mimi nitawapa maskini nusu ya mali yangu, na kama nimenyang'anya mtu yeyote kitu, nitamrudishia mara nne."

⁹And Jesus said unto him — `To-day salvation did come to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham;

⁹Yesu akamwambia, "Leo wokovu umefika katika nyumba hii, kwa vile huyu pia ni wa ukoo wa Abrahamu.

¹⁰for the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.`

¹⁰Kwa maana Mwana wa Mtu amekuja kutafuta na kuokoa waliopotea."

¹¹And while they are hearing these things, having added he spake a simile, because of his being nigh to Jerusalem, and of their thinking that the reign of God is about presently to be made manifest.

¹¹Wakati watu walipokuwa bado wanasikiliza hayo, Yesu akawaambia mfano. (Hapo alikuwa anakaribia Yerusalemu, na watu wale walidhani kwamba muda si muda, Ufalme wa Mungu ungefika.)

¹²He said therefore, `A certain man of birth went on to a far country, to take to himself a kingdom, and to return,

¹²Hivyo akawaambia, "Kulikuwa na mtu mmoja wa ukoo wa kifalme aliyefanya safari kwenda nchi ya mbali ili apokee madaraka ya ufalme, halafu arudi.

¹³and having called ten servants of his own, he gave to them ten pounds, and said unto them, Do business — till I come;

¹³Basi, kabla ya kuondoka aliwaita watumishi wake kumi, akawapa kiasi cha fedha kila mmoja na kumwambia: Fanyeni nazo biashara mpaka nitakaporudi.

¹⁴and his citizens were hating him, and did send an embassy after him, saying, We do not wish this one to reign over us.

¹⁴Lakini wananchi wenzake walimchukia na hivyo wakatuma wajumbe waende wakaseme: Hatumtaki huyu atutawale.

¹⁵`And it came to pass, on his coming back, having taken the kingdom, that he commanded these servants to be called to him, to whom he gave the money, that he might know what any one had done in business.

¹⁵"Huyo mtu mashuhuri alirudi nyumbani baada ya kufanywa mfalme, na mara akaamuru wale watumishi aliowapa zile fedha waitwe ili aweze kujua kila mmoja amepata faida gani.

¹⁶`And the first came near, saying, Sir, thy pound did gain ten pounds;

¹⁶Mtumishi wa kwanza akatokea, akasema: Mheshimiwa, faida iliyopatikana ni mara kumi ya zile fedha ulizonipa.

¹⁷and he said to him, Well done, good servant, because in a very little thou didst become faithful, be having authority over ten cities.

¹⁷Naye akamwambia: Vema; wewe ni mtumishi mwema. Kwa kuwa umekuwa mwaminifu katika jambo dogo, utakuwa na madaraka juu ya miji kumi!

¹⁸`And the second came, saying, Sir, thy pound made five pounds;

¹⁸Mtumishi wa pili akaja, akasema: Mheshimiwa, faida iliyopatikana ni mara tano ya zile fedha ulizonipa.

¹⁹and he said also to this one, And thou, become thou over five cities.

¹⁹Naye akamwambia pia: Nawe utakuwa na madaraka juu ya miji mitano.

²⁰`And another came, saying, Sir, lo, thy pound, that I had lying away in a napkin;

²⁰"Mtumishi mwingine akaja, akasema: Chukua fedha yako; niliificha salama katika kitambaa,

²¹for I was afraid of thee, because thou art an austere man; thou takest up what thou didst not lay down, and reapest what thou didst not sow.

²¹kwa maana niliogopa kwa sababu wewe ni mtu mkali. Wewe ni mtu ambaye huchukua yasiyo yako, na huchuma ambacho hukupanda.

²²`And he saith to him, Out of thy mouth I will judge thee, evil servant: thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow!

²²Naye akamwambia: Nakuhukumu kutokana na msemo wako, ewe mtumishi mbaya! Ulijua kwamba mimi ni mtu mkali, ambaye huchukua yasiyo yangu na kuchuma nisichopanda.

²³and wherefore didst thou not give my money to the bank, and I, having come, with interest might have received it?

²³Kwa nini basi, hukuiweka fedha yangu benki, nami ningeichukua pamoja na faida baada ya kurudi kwangu?

²⁴`And to those standing by he said, Take from him the pound, and give to him having the ten pounds —

²⁴Hapo akawaambia wale waliokuwa pale: Mnyang'anyeni hizo fedha, mkampe yule aliyepata faida mara kumi.

²⁵(and they said to him, Sir, he hath ten pounds) —

²⁵Nao wakamwambia: Lakini Mheshimiwa, huyo ana faida ya kiasi hicho mara kumi!

²⁶for I say to you, that to every one having shall be given, and from him not having, also what he hath shall be taken from him,

²⁶Naye akawajibu: Kila aliye na kitu atapewa na kuzidishiwa. Lakini yule asiye na kitu, hata kile alicho nacho kitachukuliwa.

²⁷but those my enemies, who did not wish me to reign over them, bring hither and slay before me.`

²⁷Na sasa, kuhusu hao maadui wangu ambao hawapendi niwe mfalme wao, waleteni hapa, mkawaue papa hapa mbele yangu."

²⁸And having said these things, he went on before, going up to Jerusalem.

²⁸Yesu alisema hayo, kisha akatangulia mbele yao kuelekea Yerusalemu.

²⁹And it came to pass, as he came nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, unto the mount called of the Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

²⁹Alipokaribia kufika Bethfage na Bethania, karibu na mlima wa Mizeituni, aliwatuma wanafunzi wake wawili,

³⁰having said, Go away to the village over-against, in which, entering into, ye shall find a colt bound, on which no one of men did ever sit, having loosed it, bring [it];

³⁰akawaambia: "Nendeni katika kijiji kilicho mbele yenu. Mtakapokuwa mnaingia kijijini, mtamkuta mwana punda amefungwa ambaye hajatumiwa na mtu. Mfungeni, mkamlete hapa.

³¹and if any one doth question you, Wherefore do ye loose [it]? thus ye shall say to him — The Lord hath need of it.`

³¹Kama mtu akiwauliza, kwa nini mnamfungua, mwambieni, Bwana ana haja naye."

³²And those sent, having gone away, found according as he said to them,

³²Basi, wakaenda, wakakuta sawa kama alivyowaambia.

³³and while they are loosing the colt, its owners said unto them, `Why loose ye the colt?`

³³Walipokuwa wanamfungua yule mwana punda, wenyewe wakawauliza, "Kwa nini mnamfungua mwana punda huyu?"

³⁴and they said, `The Lord hath need of it;`

³⁴Nao wakawajibu, "Bwana anamhitaji."

³⁵and they brought it unto Jesus, and having cast their garments upon the colt, they did set Jesus upon it.

³⁵Basi, wakampelekea Yesu yule mwana punda. Kisha wakatandika mavazi yao juu yake wakampandisha Yesu.

³⁶And as he is going, they were spreading their garments in the way,

³⁶Yesu akaendelea na safari, na watu wakatandaza mavazi yao barabarani.

³⁷and as he is coming nigh now, at the descent of the mount of the Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began rejoicing to praise God with a great voice for all the mighty works they had seen,

³⁷Alipofika karibu na Yerusalemu, katika mteremko wa mlima wa Mizeituni, umati wote na wanafunzi wake, wakaanza kushangilia na kumtukuza Mungu kwa sauti kubwa, kwa sababu ya mambo makuu waliyoyaona;

³⁸saying, `blessed [is] he who is coming, a king in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.`

³⁸wakawa wanasema: "Abarikiwe Mfalme ajaye kwa jina la Bwana. Amani mbinguni, na utukufu juu mbinguni!"

³⁹And certain of the Pharisees from the multitude said unto him, `Teacher, rebuke thy disciples;`

³⁹Hapo baadhi ya Mafarisayo waliokuwako katika lile kundi la watu, wakamwambia Yesu, "Mwalimu, wanyamazishe wanafunzi wako!"

⁴⁰and he answering said to them, `I say to you, that, if these shall be silent, the stones will cry out!`

⁴⁰Yesu akawajibu, "Nawaambieni, kama hawa wakinyamaza, hakika hayo mawe yatapaza sauti."

⁴¹And when he came nigh, having seen the city, he wept over it,

⁴¹Alipokaribia zaidi na kuuona ule mji, Yesu aliulilia

⁴²saying — `If thou didst know, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things for thy peace; but now they were hid from thine eyes.

⁴²akisema: "Laiti ungelijua leo hii yale yaletayo amani! Lakini sasa yamefichika machoni pako.

⁴³`Because days shall come upon thee, and thine enemies shall cast around thee a rampart, and compass thee round, and press thee on every side,

⁴³Maana siku zaja ambapo adui zako watakuzungushia maboma, watakuzingira na kukusonga pande zote.

⁴⁴and lay thee low, and thy children within thee, and they shall not leave in thee a stone upon a stone, because thou didst not know the time of thy inspection.`

⁴⁴Watakupondaponda wewe pamoja na watoto wako ndani ya kuta zako; hawatakuachia hata jiwe moja juu jingine, kwa sababu hukuutambua wakati Mungu alipokujia kukuokoa."

⁴⁵And having entered into the temple, he began to cast forth those selling in it, and those buying,

⁴⁵Kisha, Yesu aliingia Hekaluni, akaanza kuwafukuzia nje wafanyabiashara

⁴⁶saying to them, `It hath been written, My house is a house of prayer — but ye made it a den of robbers.`

⁴⁶akisema, "Imeandikwa: Nyumba yangu itakuwa nyumba ya sala; lakini ninyi mmeifanya kuwa pango la wanyang'anyi."

⁴⁷And he was teaching daily in the temple, but the chief priests and the scribes were seeking to destroy him — also the chiefs of the people —

⁴⁷Yesu akawa anafundisha kila siku Hekaluni. Makuhani wakuu, walimu wa Sheria na viongozi wa watu walitaka kumwangamiza,

⁴⁸and they were not finding what they shall do, for all the people were hanging on him, hearing him.

⁴⁸lakini hawakuwa na la kufanya, maana watu wote walikuwa wakimsikiliza kwa makini kabisa.
