¹And God saith unto Jacob, `Rise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared unto thee in thy fleeing from the face of Esau thy brother.`

¹தேவன் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து பெத்தேலுக்குப் போய், அங்கே குடியிருந்து, நீ உன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவின் முகத்திற்கு விலகி ஓடிப்போகிறபோது, உனக்குத் தரிசனமான தேவனுக்கு அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்கு என்றார்.

²And Jacob saith unto his household, and unto all who [are] with him, `Turn aside the gods of the stranger which [are] in your midst, and cleanse yourselves, and change your garments;

²அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு தன் வீட்டாரையும் தன்னோடேகூட இருந்த மற்ற அனைவரையும் நோக்கி: உங்களிடத்தில் இருக்கிற அந்நிய தெய்வங்களை விலக்கிப்போட்டு, உங்களைச் சுத்தம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, உங்கள் வஸ்திரங்களை மாற்றுங்கள்.

³and we rise, and go up to Bethel, and I make there an altar to God, who is answering me in the day of my distress, and is with me in the way that I have gone.`

³நாம் எழுந்து பெத்தேலுக்குப் போவோம் வாருங்கள்; எனக்கு ஆபத்து நேரிட்ட நாளில் என் விண்ணப்பத்துக்கு உத்தரவு அருளிச்செய்து, நான் நடந்த வழியிலே என்னோடேகூட இருந்த தேவனுக்கு அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்குவேன் என்றான்.

⁴And they give unto Jacob all the gods of the stranger that [are] in their hand, and the rings that [are] in their ears, and Jacob hideth them under the oak which [is] by Shechem;

⁴அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் தங்கள் கையில் இருந்த எல்லா அந்நிய தெய்வங்களையும், தங்கள் காதணிகளையும் யாக்கோபிடத்தில் கொடுத்தார்கள்; யாக்கோபு அவைகளைச் சீகேம் ஊர் அருகே இருந்த ஒரு கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழே புதைத்துப்போட்டான்.

⁵and they journey, and the terror of God is on the cities which [are] round about them, and they have not pursued after the sons of Jacob.

⁵பின்பு பிரயாணம் புறப்பட்டார்கள்; அவர்களைச் சுற்றிலும் இருந்த பட்டணத்தாருக்குத் தேவனாலே பயங்கரம் உண்டானதினால், அவர்கள் யாக்கோபின் குமாரரைப் பின்தொடராதிருந்தார்கள்.

⁶And Jacob cometh in to Luz which [is] in the land of Canaan (it [is] Bethel), he and all the people who [are] with him,

⁶யாக்கோபும் அவனோடேகூட இருந்த எல்லா ஜனங்களும் கானான் தேசத்திலுள்ள பெத்தேல் என்னும் லூசுக்கு வந்தார்கள்.

⁷and he buildeth there an altar, and proclaimeth at the place the God of Bethel: for there had God been revealed unto him, in his fleeing from the face of his brother.

⁷அங்கே அவன் ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக்கட்டி, தன் சகோதரனுடைய முகத்துக்குத் தப்பி ஓடினபோது, அங்கே தனக்கு தேவன் தரிசனமானபடியால், அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்கு ஏல்பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

⁸And Deborah, Rebekah`s nurse, dieth, and she is buried at the lower part of Bethel, under the oak, and he calleth its name `Oak of weeping.`

⁸ரெபெக்காளின் தாதியாகிய தெபொராள் மரித்து, பெத்தேலுக்குச் சமீபமாயிருந்த ஒரு கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழ் அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டாள்; அதற்கு அல்லோன்பாகூத் என்னும் பேர் உண்டாயிற்று.

⁹And God appeareth unto Jacob again, in his coming from Padan-Aram, and blesseth him;

⁹யாக்கோபு பதான் அராமிலிருந்து வந்தபின்பு தேவன் அவனுக்கு மறுபடியும் தரிசனமாகி, அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்து:

¹⁰and God saith to him, `Thy name [is] Jacob: thy name is no more called Jacob, but Israel is thy name;` and He calleth his name Israel.

¹⁰இப்பொழுது உன் பேர் யாக்கோபு, இனி உன் பேர் யாக்கோபு என்னப்படாமல், இஸ்ரவேல் என்று உனக்குப் பேர் வழங்கும் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு இஸ்ரவேல் என்று பேரிட்டார்.

¹¹And God saith to him, `I [am] God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply, a nation and an assembly of nations is from thee, and kings from thy loins go out;

¹¹பின்னும் தேவன் அவனை நோக்கி: நான் சர்வவல்லமையுள்ள தேவன், நீ பலுகிப் பெருகுவாயாக; ஒரு ஜாதியும் பற்பல ஜாதிகளின் கூட்டங்களும் உன்னிலிருந்து உண்டாகும்; ராஜாக்களும் உன் சந்ததியில் பிறப்பார்கள்.

¹²and the land which I have given to Abraham and to Isaac — to thee I give it, yea to thy seed after thee I give the land.`

¹²நான் ஆபிரகாமுக்கும் ஈசாக்குக்கும் கொடுத்த தேசத்தை உனக்குக் கொடுப்பேன்; உனக்குப்பின் உன் சந்ததிக்கும் இந்த தேசத்தைக் கொடுப்பேன் என்று சொல்லி,

¹³And God goeth up from him, in the place where He hath spoken with him.

¹³தேவன் அவனோடே பேசின ஸ்தலத்திலிருந்து அவனைவிட்டு எழுந்தருளிப்போனார்.

¹⁴And Jacob setteth up a standing pillar in the place where He hath spoken with him, a standing pillar of stone, and he poureth on it an oblation, and he poureth on it oil;

¹⁴அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு தன்னோடே அவர் பேசின ஸ்தலத்திலே ஒரு கற்றூணை நிறுத்தி, அதின்மேல் பானபலியை ஊற்றி, எண்ணையையும் வார்த்தான்.

¹⁵and Jacob calleth the name of the place where God spake with him Bethel.

¹⁵தேவன் தன்னோடே பேசின அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்கு யாக்கோபு பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

¹⁶And they journey from Bethel, and there is yet a kibrath of land before entering Ephratha, and Rachel beareth, and is sharply pained in her bearing;

¹⁶பின்பு, பெத்தேலை விட்டுப் பிரயாணம் புறப்பட்டார்கள். எப்பிராத்தாவுக்கு வர இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் தூரமிருக்கும்போது, ராகேல் பிள்ளைபெற்றாள்; பிரசவத்தில் அவளுக்குக் கடும்வேதனை உண்டாயிற்று.

¹⁷and it cometh to pass, in her being sharply pained in her bearing, that the midwife saith to her, `Fear not, for this also [is] a son for thee.`

¹⁷பிரசவிக்கும்போது, அவளுக்குக் கடும் வேதனையாயிருக்கையில், மருத்துவச்சி அவளைப் பார்த்து: பயப்படாதே, இந்த முறையும் புத்திரனைப் பெறுவாய் என்றாள்.

¹⁸And it cometh to pass in the going out of her soul (for she died), that she calleth his name Ben-Oni; and his father called him Benjamin;

¹⁸மரணகாலத்தில் அவள் ஆத்துமா பிரியும்போது, அவள் அவனுக்கு பெனொனி என்று பேரிட்டாள்; அவன் தகப்பனோ, அவனுக்கு பென்யமீன் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

¹⁹and Rachel dieth, and is buried in the way to Ephratha, which [is] Bethlehem,

¹⁹ராகேல் மரித்து, பெத்லகேம் என்னும் எப்பிராத்தா ஊருக்குப் போகிற வழியிலே அடக்கம் பண்ணப்பட்டாள்.

²⁰and Jacob setteth up a standing pillar over her grave; which [is] the standing pillar of Rachel`s grave unto this day.

²⁰அவள் கல்லறையின்மேல் யாக்கோபு ஒரு தூணை நிறுத்தினான்; அதுவே இந்நாள் வரைக்கும் இருக்கிற ராகேலுடைய கல்லறையின் தூண்.

²¹And Israel journeyeth, and stretcheth out his tent beyond the tower of Edar;

²¹இஸ்ரவேல் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி, ஏதேர் என்கிற கோபுரத்திற்கு அப்புறத்தில் கூடாரம் போட்டான்.

²²and it cometh to pass in Israel`s dwelling in that land, that Reuben goeth, and lieth with Bilhah his father`s concubine; and Israel heareth.

²²இஸ்ரவேல் அந்தத் தேசத்தில் தங்கிக் குடியிருக்கும்போது, ரூபன் போய், தன் தகப்பனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியாகிய பில்காளோடே சயனித்தான்; அதை இஸ்ரவேல் கேள்விப்பட்டான்.

²³And the sons of Jacob are twelve. Sons of Leah: Jacob`s first-born Reuben, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun.

²³யாக்கோபின் குமாரர் பன்னிரண்டு பேர். யாக்கோபின் மூத்தமகனாகிய ரூபன், சிமியோன், லேவி, யூதா, இசக்கார், செபுலோன் என்பவர்கள் லேயாள் பெற்ற குமாரர்.

²⁴Sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

²⁴யோசேப்பு, பென்யமீன் என்பவர்கள் ராகேல் பெற்ற குமாரர்.

²⁵And sons of Bilhah, Rachel`s maid-servant: Dan and Naphtali.

²⁵தாண், நப்தலி என்பவர்கள் ராகேலுடைய பணிவிடைக்காரியாகிய பில்காள் பெற்ற குமாரர்.

²⁶And sons of Zilpah, Leah`s maid-servant: Gad and Asher. These [are] sons of Jacob, who have been born to him in Padan-Aram.

²⁶காத், ஆசேர் என்பவர்கள் லேயாளின் பணிவிடைக்காரியாகிய சில்பாள் பெற்ற குமாரர்; இவர்களே யாக்கோபுக்குப் பதான் அராமிலே பிறந்த குமாரர்.

²⁷And Jacob cometh unto Isaac his father, at Mamre, the city of Arba (which [is] Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac have sojourned.

²⁷பின்பு, யாக்கோபு அர்பாவின் ஊராகிய மம்ரேக்கு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கினிடத்தில் வந்தான்; அது ஆபிரகாமும் ஈசாக்கும் தங்கியிருந்த எபிரோன் என்னும் ஊர்.

²⁸And the days of Isaac are a hundred and eighty years,

²⁸ஈசாக்கு விருத்தாப்பியமும் பூரண ஆயுசுமுள்ளவனாகி, நூற்றெண்பது வருஷம் ஜீவித்திருந்து,

²⁹and Isaac expireth, and dieth, and is gathered unto his people, aged and satisfied with days; and bury him do Esau and Jacob his sons.

²⁹பிராணன்போய் மரித்து, தன் ஜனத்தாரோடே சேர்க்கப்பட்டான். அவன் குமாரராகிய ஏசாவும் யாக்கோபும் அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்.
