¹ከዚህም በኋላ ኢየሱስ አይሁድ ሊገድሉት ይፈልጉ ስለ ነበር በይሁዳ ሊመላለስ አይወድም ነበርና በገሊላ ይመላለስ ነበር።

¹And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

²የአይሁድም የዳስ በዓል ቀርቦ ነበር።

²Now the tabernacles, the feast of the Jews, was near.

³እንግዲህ ወንድሞቹ። ደቀ መዛሙርትህ ደግሞ የምታደርገውን ሥራ እንዲያዩ ከዚህ ተነሣና ወደ ይሁዳ ሂድ፤

³His brethren therefore said to him, Remove hence and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou doest;

⁴ራሱ ሊገለጥ እየፈለገ በስውር የሚሠራ የለምና። እነዚህን ብታደርግ ራስህን ለዓለም ግለጥ አሉት።

⁴for no one does anything in secret and himself seeks to be [known] in public. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world:

⁵ወንድሞቹ ስንኳ አላመኑበትም ነበርና።

⁵for neither did his brethren believe on him.

⁶ኢየሱስም እንዲህ አላቸው። ጊዜዬ ገና አልደረሰም፥ ጊዜያችሁ ግን ዘወትር የተመቸ ነው።

⁶Jesus therefore says to them, My time is not yet come, but your time is always ready.

⁷ዓለም እናንተን ሊጠላ አይቻለውም፤ እኔ ግን ሥራው ክፉ መሆኑን እመሰክርበታለሁና እኔን ይጠላኛል።

⁷The world cannot hate you, but me it hates, because I bear witness concerning it that its works are evil.

⁸እናንተ ወደዚህ በዓል ውጡ፤ እኔስ ጊዜዬ ገና ስላልተፈጸመ ወደዚህ በዓል ገና አልወጣም።

⁸Ye, go ye up to this feast. I go not up to this feast, for *my* time is not yet fulfilled.

⁹ይህንም አላቸውና በገሊላ ቀረ።

⁹Having said these things to them he abode in Galilee.

¹⁰ወንድሞቹ ግን ወደ በዓሉ ከወጡ በኋላ በዚያን ጊዜ እርሱ ደግሞ በግልጥ ሳይሆን ተሰውሮ ወጣ።

¹⁰But when his brethren had gone up, then he himself also went up to the feast, not openly, but as in secret.

¹¹አይሁድም። እርሱ ወዴት ነው? እያሉ በበዓሉ ይፈልጉት ነበር።

¹¹The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

¹²በሕዝብም መካከል ስለ እርሱ ብዙ ማንጐራጐር ነበረ፤ አንዳንዱም። ደግ ሰው ነው፤ ሌሎች ግን። አይደለም፥ ሕዝቡን ግን ያስታል ይሉ ነበር።

¹²And there was much murmuring concerning him among the crowds. Some said, He is [a] good [man]; others said, No; but he deceives the crowd.

¹³ዳሩ ግን አይሁድን ስለ ፈሩ ማንም ስለ እርሱ በግልጥ አይናገርም ነበር።

¹³However, no one spoke openly concerning him on account of [their] fear of the Jews.

¹⁴አሁንም በበዓሉ እኩሌታ ኢየሱስ ወደ መቅደስ ወጥቶ ያስተምር ነበር።

¹⁴But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

¹⁵አይሁድም። ይህ ሰው ሳይማር መጻሕፍትን እንዴት ያውቃል? ብለው ይደነቁ ነበር።

¹⁵The Jews therefore wondered, saying, How knows this [man] letters, having never learned?

¹⁶ስለዚህ ኢየሱስ መለሰ እንዲህም አላቸው። ትምህርቴስ ከላከኝ ነው እንጂ ከእኔ አይደለም፤

¹⁶Jesus therefore answered them and said, My doctrine is not mine, but [that] of him that has sent me.

¹⁷ፈቃዱን ሊያደርግ የሚወድ ቢኖር፥ እርሱ ይህ ትምህርት ከእግዚአብሔር ቢሆን ወይም እኔ ከራሴ የምናገር ብሆን ያውቃል።

¹⁷If any one desire to practise his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is of God, or [that] I speak from myself.

¹⁸ከራሱ የሚናገር የራሱን ክብር ይፈልጋል፤ የላከውን ክብር የሚፈልግ ግን እርሱ እውነተኛ ነው በእርሱም ዓመፃ የለበትም።

¹⁸He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he that seeks the glory of him that has sent him, he is true, and unrighteousness is not in him.

¹⁹ሙሴ ሕግን አልሰጣችሁምን? ከእናንተ ግን ሕግን የሚያደርግ አንድ ስንኳ የለም። ልትገድሉኝ ስለ ምን ትፈልጋላችሁ?

¹⁹Has not Moses given you the law, and no one of you practises the law? Why do ye seek to kill me?

²⁰ሕዝቡ መለሱና። ጋኔን አለብህ፤ ማን ሊገድልህ ይፈልጋል? አሉት።

²⁰The crowd answered [and said], Thou hast a demon: who seeks to kill thee?

²¹ኢየሱስ መለሰ አላቸውም። አንድ ሥራ አደረግሁ ሁላችሁም ታደንቃላችሁ።

²¹Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all wonder.

²²ስለዚህ ሙሴ መገረዝን ሰጣችሁ፤ ከአባቶችም ነው እንጂ ከሙሴ አይደለም፤ በሰንበትም ሰውን ትገርዛላችሁ።

²²Therefore Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and ye circumcise a man on sabbath.

²³የሙሴ ሕግ እንዳይሻር ሰው በሰንበት መገረዝን የሚቀበል ከሆነስ ሰውን ሁለንተናውን በሰንበት ጤናማ ስላደረግሁ ትቈጡኛላችሁን?

²³If a man receives circumcision on sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be violated, are ye angry with me because I have made a man entirely sound on sabbath?

²⁴ቅን ፍርድ ፍረዱ እንጂ በመልክ አትፍረዱ።

²⁴Judge not according to sight, but judge righteous judgment.

²⁵እንግዲህ ከኢየሩሳሌም ሰዎች አንዳንዶቹ እንዲህ አሉ። ሊገድሉት የሚፈልጉት ይህ አይደለምን?

²⁵Some therefore of those of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?

²⁶እነሆም፥ በግልጥ ይናገራል አንዳችም አይሉትም። አለቆቹ ይህ ሰው በእውነት ክርስቶስ እንደ ሆነ በእውነት አወቁን?

²⁶and behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers then indeed recognised that this is the Christ?

²⁷ነገር ግን ይህን ከወዴት እንደ ሆነ አውቀናል፤ ክርስቶስ ሲመጣ ግን ከወዴት እንደ ሆነ ማንም አያውቅም።

²⁷But [as to] this [man] we know whence he is. Now [as to] the Christ, when he comes, no one knows whence he is.

²⁸እንግዲህ ኢየሱስ በመቅደስ ሲያስተምር። እኔንም ታውቁኛላችሁ ከወዴትም እንደ ሆንሁ ታውቃላችሁ፤ እኔም በራሴ አልመጣሁም ነገር ግን እናንተ የማታውቁት የላከኝ እውነተኛ ነው፤

²⁸Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me and ye know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye do not know.

²⁹እኔ ግን ከእርሱ ዘንድ ነኝ እርሱም ልኮኛልና አውቀዋለሁ ብሎ ጮኸ።

²⁹I know him, because I am from him, and *he* has sent me.

³⁰ስለዚህ ሊይዙት ይፈልጉ ነበር፤ ነገር ግን ጊዜው ገና ስላልደረሰ ማንም እጁን አልጫነበትም።

³⁰They sought therefore to take him; and no one laid his hand upon him, because his hour had not yet come.

³¹ከሕዝቡ ግን ብዙዎች አመኑበትና። ክርስቶስ በመጣ ጊዜ ይህ ካደረጋቸው ምልክቶች ይልቅ ያደርጋልን? አሉ።

³¹But many of the crowd believed on him, and said, Will the Christ, when he comes, do more signs than those which this [man] has done?

³²ፈሪሳውያንም ሕዝቡ ሰለ እርሱ እንደዚህ ሲያንጐራጕሩ ሰሙ፤ የካህናት አለቆችም ፈሪሳውያም ሊይዙት ሎሌዎችን ላኩ።

³²The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they might take him.

³³ኢየሱስም። ገና ጥቂት ጊዜ ከእናንተ ጋር እቆያለሁ ወደ ላከኝም እሄዳለሁ።

³³Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while I am with you, and I go to him that has sent me.

³⁴ትፈልጉኛላችሁ አታገኙኝምም፤ እኔም ወዳለሁበት እናንተ ልትመጡ አትችሉም አለ።

³⁴Ye shall seek me and shall not find [me], and where I am ye cannot come.

³⁵እንግዲህ አይሁድ። እኛ እንዳናገኘው ይህ ወዴት ይሄድ ዘንድ አለው? በግሪክ ሰዎች መካከል ተበትነው ወደሚኖሩት ሊሄድና የግሪክን ሰዎች ሊያስተምር አለውን?

³⁵The Jews therefore said to one another, Where is he about to go that we shall not find him? Is he about to go to the dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

³⁶እርሱ። ትፈልጉኛላችሁ አታገኙኝምም እኔም ወዳለሁበት እናንተ ልትመጡ አትችሉም የሚለው ይህ ቃል ምንድር ነው? ብለው እርስ በርሳቸው ተነጋገሩ።

³⁶What word is this which he said, Ye shall seek me and shall not find [me]; and where I am ye cannot come?

³⁷ከበዓሉም በታላቁ በኋለኛው ቀን ኢየሱስ ቆሞ። ማንም የተጠማ ቢኖር ወደ እኔ ይምጣና ይጠጣ።

³⁷In the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink.

³⁸በእኔ የሚያምን መጽሐፍ እንዳለ፥ የሕይወት ውኃ ወንዝ ከሆዱ ይፈልቃል ብሎ ጮኸ።

³⁸He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

³⁹ይህን ግን በእርሱ የሚያምኑ ሊቀበሉት ስላላቸው ስለ መንፈስ ተናገረ፤ ኢየሱስ ገና ስላልከበረ መንፈስ ገና አልወረደም ነበርና።

³⁹But this he said concerning the Spirit, which they that believed on him were about to receive; for [the] Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

⁴⁰ስለዚህ ከሕዝቡ አያሌ ሰዎች ይህን ቃል ሲሰሙ። ይህ በእውነት ነቢዩ ነው አሉ፤

⁴⁰[Some] out of the crowd therefore, having heard this word, said, This is truly the prophet.

⁴¹ሌሎች። ይህ ክርስቶስ ነው አሉ፤ ሌሎች ግን። ክርስቶስ በእውኑ ከገሊላ ይመጣልን?

⁴¹Others said, This is the Christ. Others said, Does then the Christ come out of Galilee?

⁴²ክርስቶስ ከዳዊት ዘር ዳዊትም ከነበረባት መንደር ከቤተ ልሔም እንዲመጣ መጽሐፍ አላለምን? አሉ።

⁴²Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from the village of Bethlehem, where David was?

⁴³እንግዲህ ከእርሱ የተነሣ በሕዝቡ መካከል መለያየት ሆነ፤

⁴³There was a division therefore in the crowd on account of him.

⁴⁴ከእነርሱም አንዳንዶቹ ሊይዙት ወደዱ ነገር ግን እጁን ማንም አልጫነበትም።

⁴⁴But some of them desired to take him, but no one laid hands upon him.

⁴⁵ሎሌዎቹም ወደ ካህናት አለቆችና ወደ ፈሪሳውያን መጡ፤ እነዚያም። ያላመጣችሁት ስለ ምን ነው? አሉአቸው።

⁴⁵The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, Why have ye not brought him?

⁴⁶ሎሌዎቹ። እንደዚህ ሰው ማንም እንዲሁ ከቶ አልተናገረም ብለው መለሱ።

⁴⁶The officers answered, Never man spoke thus, as this man [speaks].

⁴⁷እንግዲህ ፈሪሳውያን። እናንተ ደግሞ ሳታችሁን?

⁴⁷The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also deceived?

⁴⁸ከአለቆች ወይስ ከፈሪሳውያን በእርሱ ያመነ አለን?

⁴⁸Has any one of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?

⁴⁹ነገር ግን ሕግን የማያውቀው ይህ ሕዝብ ርጉም ነው ብለው መለሱላቸው።

⁴⁹But this crowd, which does not know the law, are accursed.

⁵⁰ከእነርሱ አንዱ በሌሊት ቀድሞ ወደ እርሱ መጥቶ የነበረ ኒቆዲሞስ።

⁵⁰Nicodemus says to them (being one of themselves),

⁵¹ሕጋችን አስቀድሞ ከእርሱ ሳይሰማ ምንስ እንዳደረገ ሳያውቅ በሰው ይፈርዳልን? አላቸው።

⁵¹Does our law judge a man before it have first heard from himself, and know what he does?

⁵²እነርሱም መለሱና። አንተም ደግሞ ከገሊላ ነህን? ነቢይ ከገሊላ እንዳይነሣ መርምርና እይ አሉት።

⁵²They answered and said to him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and look, that no prophet arises out of Galilee.

⁵³እያንዳንዱም ወደ ቤቱ ሄደ።

⁵³And every one went to his home.
