¹የእግዚአብሔር ልጅ የኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ወንጌል መጀመሪያ።

¹Beginning of the glad tidings of Jesus Christ, Son of God;

²እነሆ፥ መንገድህን የሚጠርግ መልክተኛዬን በፊትህ እልካለሁ የጌታን መንገድ አዘጋጁ ጥርጊያውንም አቅኑ እያለ በምድረ በዳ የሚጮኽ ሰው ድምፅ ተብሎ በነቢዩ በኢሳይያስ እንደ ተጻፈ፥

²as it is written in [Isaiah] the prophet, Behold, *I* send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way.

⁴ዮሐንስ በምድረ በዳ እያጠመቀ የንስሐንም ጥምቀት ለኃጢአት ስርየት እየሰበከ መጣ።

³Voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of [the] Lord, make his paths straight.

⁵የይሁዳም አገር ሁሉ የኢየሩሳሌምም ሰዎች ሁሉ ወደ እርሱ ይወጡ ነበር፥ ኃጢአታቸውንም እየተናዘዙ በዮርዳኖስ ወንዝ ከእርሱ ይጠመቁ ነበር።

⁴There came John baptising in the wilderness, and preaching [the] baptism of repentance for remission of sins.

⁶ዮሐንስም የግመል ጠጉር ለብሶ በወገቡ ጠፍር ይታጠቅ አንበጣና የበረሀ ማርም ይበላ ነበር።

⁵And there went out to him all the district of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem, and were baptised by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁷ተጎንብሼ የጫማውን ጠፍር መፍታት የማይገባኝ ከእኔ የሚበረታ በኋላዬ ይመጣል።

⁶And John was clothed in camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins, and ate locusts and wild honey.

⁸እኔ በውኃ አጠመቅኋችሁ እርሱ ግን በመንፈስ ቅዱስ ያጠምቃችኋል እያለ ይሰብክ ነበር።

⁷And he preached, saying, There comes he that is mightier than I after me, the thong of whose sandals I am not fit to stoop down and unloose.

⁹በዚያ ወራትም ኢየሱስ ከገሊላ ናዝሬት መጥቶ ከዮሐንስ በዮርዳኖስ ወንዝ ተጠመቀ።

⁸*I* indeed have baptised you with water, but *he* shall baptise you with [the] Holy Spirit.

¹⁰ወዲያውም ከውኃው በወጣ ጊዜ ሰማያት ሲቀደዱ መንፈስም እንደ ርግብ ሲወርድበት አየና። የምወድህ ልጄ አንተ ነህ፥

⁹And it came to pass in those days [that] Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptised by John at the Jordan.

¹¹በአንተ ደስ ይለኛል የሚል ድምፅ ከሰማያት መጣ።

¹⁰And straightway going up from the water, he saw the heavens parting asunder, and the Spirit, as a dove, descending upon him.

¹²ወዲያውም መንፈስ ወደ ምድረ በዳ አወጣው።

¹¹And there came a voice out of the heavens: *Thou* art my beloved Son, in thee I have found my delight.

¹³በምድረ በዳም ከሰይጣን እየተፈተነ አርባ ቀን ሰነበተ ከአራዊትም ጋር ነበረ፥ መላእክቱም አገለገሉት።

¹²And immediately the Spirit drives him out into the wilderness.

¹⁴ዮሐንስም አልፎ ከተሰጠ በኋላ ኢየሱስ የእግዚአብሔርን መንግሥት ወንጌል እየሰበከና። ዘመኑ ተፈጸመ የእግዚአብሔርም መንግሥት ቀርባለች ንስሐ ግቡ በወንጌልም እመኑ እያለ ወደ ገሊላ መጣ።

¹³And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.

¹⁶በገሊላ ባሕርም አጠገብ ሲያልፍ ስምዖንን ወንድሙንም እንድርያስን መረባቸውን ወደ ባሕር ሲጥሉ አየ፥ ዓሣ አጥማጆች ነበሩና።

¹⁴But after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee preaching the glad tidings of the kingdom of God,

¹⁷ኢየሱስም። በኋላዬ ኑና ሰዎችን አጥማጆች እንድትሆኑ አደርጋችኋለሁ አላቸው።

¹⁵and saying, The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God has drawn nigh; repent and believe in the glad tidings.

¹⁸ወዲያውም መረባቸውን ትተው ተከተሉት።

¹⁶And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew, [Simon's] brother, casting out a net in the sea, for they were fishers.

¹⁹ከዚያም ጥቂት እልፍ ብሎ የዘብዴዎስን ልጅ ያዕቆብን ወንድሙንም ዮሐንስን ደግሞ በታንኳ ላይ መረባቸውን ሲያበጁ አየ።

¹⁷And Jesus said to them, Come after me, and I will make you become fishers of men;

²⁰ወዲያውም ጠራቸው አባታቸውንም ዘብዴዎስን ከሞያተኞቹ ጋር በታንኳ ላይ ትተው ተከትለውት ሄዱ።

¹⁸and straightway leaving their trawl-nets they followed him.

²¹ወደ ቅፍርናሆምም ገቡ፤ ወዲያውም በሰንበት ወደ ምኵራብ ገብቶ አስተማረ።

¹⁹And going on thence a little, he saw James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, and these [were] in the ship repairing the trawl-nets;

²²እንደ ባለ ሥልጣን ያስተምራቸው ነበር እንጂ እንደ ጻፎች አይደለምና በትምህርቱ ተገረሙ።

²⁰and straightway he called them; and leaving their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, they went away after him.

²³በዚያን ጊዜም በምኩራባቸው ርኵስ መንፈስ ያለው ሰው ነበረ፤

²¹And they go into Capernaum. And straightway on the sabbath he entered into the synagogue and taught.

²⁴እርሱም። የናዝሬቱ ኢየሱስ ሆይ፥ ከአንተ ጋር ምን አለን? ልታጠፋን መጣህን? ማን እንደ ሆንህ አውቄአለሁ፥ የእግዚአብሔር ቅዱሱ ብሎ ጮኸ።

²²And they were astonished at his doctrine, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.

²⁵ኢየሱስም። ዝም በል ከእርሱም ውጣ ብሎ ገሠጸው።

²³And there was in their synagogue a man [possessed] by an unclean spirit, and he cried out

²⁶ርኵሱም መንፈስ አንፈራገጠውና በታላቅ ድምፅ ጮኾ ከእርሱ ወጣ።

²⁴saying, Eh! what have we to do with thee, Jesus, Nazarene? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the holy one of God.

²⁷ሁሉም። ይህ ምንድር ነው? በሥልጣን ርኵሳን መናፍስትን ያዝዛል፤ እነርሱም ይታዘዙለታልና ይህ አዲስ ትምህርት ምንድር ነው? ብለው እስኪጠያየቁ ድረስ አደነቁ።

²⁵And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace and come out of him.

²⁸ዝናውም ወዲያው በየስፍራው ወደ ገሊላ ዙሪያ ሁሉ ወጣ።

²⁶And the unclean spirit, having torn him, and uttered a cry with a loud voice, came out of him.

²⁹ወዲያውም ከምኵራብ ወጥቶ ከያዕቆብና ከዮሐንስ ጋር ወደ ስምዖንና ወደ እንድርያስ ቤት ገባ።

²⁷And all were amazed, so that they questioned together among themselves, saying, What is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.

³⁰የስምዖንም አማት በንዳድ ታማ ተኝታ ነበር፥ ስለ እርስዋም ወዲያው ነገሩት።

²⁸And his fame went out straightway into the whole region of Galilee around.

³¹ቀርቦም እጅዋን ይዞ አስነሣት ንዳዱም ወዲያው ለቀቃትና አገለገለቻቸው።

²⁹And straightway going out of the synagogue, they came with James and John into the house of Simon and Andrew.

³²ፀሐይም ገብቶ በመሸ ጊዜ፥ የታመሙትንና አጋንንት ያደረባቸውን ሁሉ ወደ እርሱ አመጡ፤

³⁰And the mother-in-law of Simon lay in a fever. And straightway they speak to him about her.

³³ከተማይቱም ሁላ በደጅ ተሰብስባ ነበር።

³¹And he went up to [her] and raised her up, having taken her by the hand, and straightway the fever left her, and she served them.

³⁴በልዩ ልዩ ደዌም የታመሙትን ብዙዎችን ፈወሰ፥ ብዙዎችንም አጋንንት አወጣ፥ አጋንንትም ክርስቶስ መሆኑን አውቀው ነበርና ሊናገሩ አልፈቀደላቸውም።

³²But evening being come, when the sun had gone down, they brought to him all that were suffering, and those possessed by demons;

³⁵ማለዳም ተነሥቶ ገና ሌሊት ሳለ ወጣ ወደ ምድረ በዳም ሄዶ በዚያ ጸለየ።

³³and the whole city was gathered together at the door.

³⁶ስምዖንና ከእርሱ ጋር የነበሩትም ገሥግሠው ተከተሉት፥

³⁴And he healed many suffering from various diseases; and he cast out many demons, and did not suffer the demons to speak because they knew him.

³⁷ባገኙትም ጊዜ። ሁሉ ይፈልጉሃል አሉት።

³⁵And rising in the morning long before day, he went out and went away into a desert place, and there prayed.

³⁸እርሱም። በዚያ ደግሞ ልሰብክ ወደ ሌላ ስፍራ በቅርብ ወዳሉ መንደሮች እንሂድ ስለዚህ ወጥቻለሁና አላቸው።

³⁶And Simon and those with him went after him:

³⁹በምኵራባቸውም እየሰበከ አጋንንትንም እያወጣ ወደ ገሊላ ሁሉ መጣ።

³⁷and having found him, they say to him, All seek thee.

⁴⁰ለምጻምም ወደ እርሱ መጥቶ ተንበረከከና። ብትወድስ ልታነጻኝ ትችላለህ ብሎ ለመነው።

³⁸And he says to them, Let us go elsewhere into the neighbouring country towns, that I may preach there also, for for this purpose am I come forth.

⁴¹ኢየሱስም አዘነለት እጁንም ዘርግቶ ዳሰሰውና። እወድዳለሁ፤ ንጻ አለው።

³⁹And he was preaching in their synagogues in the whole of Galilee, and casting out demons.

⁴²በተናገረም ጊዜ ለምጹ ወዲያው ለቀቀውና ነጻ።

⁴⁰And there comes to him a leper, beseeching him, and falling on his knees to him, and saying to him, If thou wilt thou canst cleanse me.

⁴³በብርቱም ተናግሮ ወዲያው አወጣው፤

⁴¹But Jesus, moved with compassion, having stretched out his hand, touched him, and says to him, I will, be thou cleansed.

⁴⁴ለማንም አንዳች እንዳትናገር ተጠንቀቅ፥ ነገር ግን ሄደህ ራስህን ለካህን አሳይ ለእነርሱም ምስክር እንዲሆን ስለ መንጻትህ ሙሴ ያዘዘውን አቅርብ አለው።

⁴²And as he spoke straightway the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.

⁴⁵እርሱ ግን ሲወጣ ብዙ ሊሰብክና ነገሩን ሊያወራ ጀመረ፥ ስለዚህም ኢየሱስ ተገልጦ ወደ ከተማ መግባት ወደ ፊት ተሳነው፥ ነገር ግን በውጭ በምድረ በዳ ይኖር ነበር፤ ከየስፍራውም ወደ እርሱ ይመጡ ነበር።

⁴³And having sharply charged him, he straightway sent him away,

⁴⁴and says to him, See thou say nothing to any one, but go, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing what Moses ordained, for a testimony to them.

⁴⁵But he, having gone forth, began to proclaim [it] much, and to spread the matter abroad, so that he could no longer enter openly into the city, but was without in desert places, and they came to him from every side.
