¹واما ساراي امرأة ابرام فلم تلد له. وكانت لها جارية مصرية اسمها هاجر.

¹Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bare him no children: and she had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

²فقالت ساراي لابرام هوذا الرب قد امسكني عن الولادة. ادخل على جاريتي. لعلي أرزق منها بنين. فسمع ابرام لقول ساراي.

²And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, Jehovah hath restrained me from bearing; go in, I pray thee, unto my handmaid; it may be that I shall obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

³فاخذت ساراي امرأة ابرام هاجر المصرية جاريتها من بعد عشر سنين لاقامة ابرام في ارض كنعان واعطتها لابرام رجلها زوجة له.

³And Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband to be his wife.

⁴فدخل على هاجر فحبلت. ولما رأت انها حبلت صغرت مولاتها في عينيها.

⁴And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

⁵فقالت ساراي لابرام ظلمي عليك. انا دفعت جاريتي الى حضنك. فلما رأت انها حبلت صغرت في عينيها. يقضي الرب بيني وبينك.

⁵And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I gave my handmaid into they bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: Jehovah judge between me and thee.

⁶فقال ابرام لساراي هوذا جاريتك في يدك. افعلي بها ما يحسن في عينيك. فاذلّتها ساراي. فهربت من وجهها

⁶But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her that which is good in thine eyes. And Sarai dealt hardly with her, and she fled from her face.

⁷فوجدها ملاك الرب على عين الماء في البرية. على العين التي في طريق شور.

⁷And the angel of Jehovah found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

⁸وقال يا هاجر جارية ساراي من اين أتيت والى اين تذهبين. فقالت انا هاربة من وجه مولاتي ساراي.

⁸And he said, Hagar, Sarai's handmaid, whence camest thou? and whither goest thou? And she said, I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.

⁹فقال لها ملاك الرب ارجعي الى مولاتك واخضعي تحت يديها.

⁹And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.

¹⁰وقال لها ملاك الرب تكثيرا اكثر نسلك فلا يعد من الكثرة.

¹⁰And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, I will greatly multiply thy seed, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

¹¹وقال لها ملاك الرب ها انت حبلى فتلدين ابنا. وتدعين اسمه اسماعيل لان الرب قد سمع لمذلّتك.

¹¹And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son; and thou shalt call his name Ishmael, because Jehovah hath heard thy affliction.

¹²وانه يكون انسانا وحشيّا. يده على كل واحد ويد كل واحد عليه. وامام جميع اخوته يسكن.

¹²And he shall be [as] a wild ass among men; his hand [shall be] against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell over against all his brethren.

¹³فدعت اسم الرب الذي تكلم معها انت ايل رئي. لانها قالت أههنا ايضا رأيت بعد رؤية.

¹³And she called the name of Jehovah that spake unto her, Thou art a God that seeth: for she said, Have I even here looked after him that seeth me?

¹⁴لذلك دعيت البئر بئر لحي رئي. ها هي بين قادش وبارد

¹⁴Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.

¹⁵فولدت هاجر لابرام ابنا. ودعا ابرام اسم ابنه الذي ولدته هاجر اسماعيل.

¹⁵And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bare, Ishmael.

¹⁶وكان ابرام ابن ست وثمانين سنة لما ولدت هاجر اسماعيل لابرام

¹⁶And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
