¹Now faith is assurance of [things] hoped for, a conviction of things not seen.

¹Karon, ang pagtoo mao ang katinoan sa mga butang nga ginapaabut, ang kasayuran mahitungod sa mga butang nga dili makita.

²For therein the elders had witness borne to them.

²Kay sa gahum niini ang mga anciano may pagpamatuod nga gidala kanila.

³By faith we understand that the worlds have been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen hath not been made out of things which appear.

³Tungod sa pagtoo hingsabtan nato nga nabuhat ang mga kalibutan tungod sa pulong sa Dios, sa paagi nga ang mga butang nga makita wala pagbuhata sa mga butang nga nagapakita.

⁴By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had witness borne to him that he was righteous, God bearing witness in respect of his gifts: and through it he being dead yet speaketh.

⁴Tungod sa pagtoo si Abel naghalad sa Dios ug usa ka halad nga labing maayo kay sa kang Cain, nga pinaagi niini, siya may pagpamatuod nga gidala kaniya nga siya matarung, ang Dios nagapamatuod mahitungod sa iyang mga gasa, ug pinaagi niini, siya bisan patay apan nagasulti.

⁵By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and he was not found, because God translated him: for he hath had witness borne to him that before his translation he had been well-pleasing unto God:

⁵Tungod sa pagtoo si Enoc gilalin aron dili siya makakita sa kamatayon, ug wala siya hikit-i kay gilalin man siya sa Dios; kay siya may pagpamatuod nga gihimo mahitungod kaniya nga sa wala pa siya paglalina nakapahimuot siya sa Dios;

⁶And without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing [unto him]; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that seek after him.

⁶Ug gawas sa pagtoo dili gayud mahimo ang pagpahimuot kaniya, kay ang moduol sa Dios kinahanglan gayud motoo nga mao siya, ug nga siya mao ang magbabalus sa mga nagapangita kaniya.

⁷By faith Noah, being warned [of God] concerning things not seen as yet, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

⁷Tungod sa pagtoo si Noe, sa gipasidan-an sa Dios mahitungod sa mga butang nga wala pa makita, milihok nga may kahadlok nga diosnon, nag-andam ug arca sa pagluwas sa iyang panimalay; nga tungod niini gihukman niya sa silot ang kalibutan, ug nahimong manununod sa pagkamatarung nga sumala sa pagtoo.

⁸By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out unto a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

⁸Tungod sa pagtoo si Abraham, sa gitawag siya, misugot sa pag-adto sa dapit nga iyang pagadawaton ingon nga panulondon; ug milakaw siya nga wala mahibalo kong asa siya paingon.

⁹By faith he became a sojourner in the land of promise, as in a [land] not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

⁹Tungod sa pagtoo nahimo siya nga dumuloong sa yuta sa saad, ingon nga sa yuta nga dili iyang kaugalingon, nga nagapuyo sa mga balongbalong, uban kang Isaac ug kang Jacob, ang mga manununod uban kaniya sa mao gihapon nga saad.

¹⁰for he looked for the city which hath the foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

¹⁰Kay nagpaabut siya sa lungsod nga may mga patukoranan, kang kansang magtutukod ug magbubuhat mao ang Dios.

¹¹By faith even Sarah herself received power to conceive seed when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised:

¹¹Tungod sa pagtoo bisan si Sara sa iyang kaugalingon nakadawat sa gahum sa pagpanamkon sa diha nga minglapas na ang panuigon, sanglit iyang giisip nga matinumanon kadtong nagsaad.

¹²wherefore also there sprang of one, and him as good as dead, [so many] as the stars of heaven in multitude, and as the sand, which is by the sea-shore, innumerable.

¹²Tungod niana, may nagpakatawo nga gikan sa usa, ug kini daw patay na, ang usa ka gidaghanon nga daw ang mga bitoon sa langit, ug ingon sa balas nga anaa sa baybayon, nga dili maisip.

¹³These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

¹³Kini ngatanan nangamatay sumala sa pagtoo, nga wala makadawat sa mga saad, apan nakakita kanila ug nakapanghimamat kanila gikan sa halayo, ug sa tapus makasugid nga sila mga dumuloong ug mga lumalangyaw dinhi sa yuta.

¹⁴For they that say such things make it manifest that they are seeking after a country of their own.

¹⁴Kay ang mga nagapamulong niining mga butanga nagapahayag nga sila nagapangita ug yuta nga ilang kaugalingon.

¹⁵And if indeed they had been mindful of that [country] from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return.

¹⁵Ug kong tinuod gayud nga sila may pagtagad sa yuta nga ilang gibiyaan, may higayon unta sila sa pagbalik.

¹⁶But now they desire a better [country], that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.

¹⁶Apan karon nagatinguha sila ug usa ka labing maayo nga yuta, nga mao ang langitnon; tungod niana, ang Dios wala magakaulaw tungod kanila, nga siya paganganlan ilang Dios, kay nakaandam siya alang kanila ug usa ka ciudad.

¹⁷By faith Abraham, being tried, offered up Isaac: yea, he that had gladly received the promises was offering up his only begotten [son];

¹⁷Tungod sa pagtoo si Abraham, sa gisulayan siya, naghalad kang Isaac; sa pagkamatuod, ang nakadawat nga malipayon sa mga saad nagahalad sa iyang anak nga bugtong;

¹⁸even he to whom it was said, In Isaac shall thy seed be called:

¹⁸Bisan siya nga tungod kaniya ginaingon: Diha kang Isaac paganganlan ang imong kaliwat;

¹⁹accounting that God [is] able to raise up, even from the dead; from whence he did also in a figure receive him back.

¹⁹Nga nagaisip nga gamhanan ang Dios sa pagpabanhaw bisan gikan sa mga minatay; nga gikan didto siya sa usa ka dagway, iya usab nga gidawat.

²⁰By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even concerning things to come.

²⁰Tungod sa pagtoo si Isaac nagpanalangin kang Jacob ug kang Esau, bisan mahitungod sa mga butang nga umalabut.

²¹By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, [leaning] upon the top of his staff.

²¹Tungod sa pagtoo si Jacob, sa diha nga himalatyon na, nagpanalangin sa tagsatagsa sa mga anak ni Jose; ug nagsimba, nga nagaakbo sa tumoy sa iyang sungkod,

²²By faith Joseph, when his end was nigh, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

²²Tungod sa pagtoo si Jose, sa haduol na ang iyang kamatayon, nagpahinumdum mahitungod sa paggikan sa mga anak ni Israel; ug naghatag ug sugo mahitungod sa iyang mga bukog.

²³By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months by his parents, because they saw he was a goodly child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.

²³Tungod sa pagtoo si Moises, sa iyang pagkatawo, gitagoan sa iyang mga ginikanan sulod sa totolo ka bulan, kay nakita nila nga siya maoy usa ka matahum nga bata, ug sila wala mahadlok sa sugo sa hari.

²⁴By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;

²⁴Tungod sa pagtoo si Moises, sa diha nga daku na siya, wala mosugot nga paganganlan nga anak sa anak nga babaye ni Faraon;

²⁵choosing rather to share ill treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

²⁵Kondili nagpalabi hinoon sa pagpakig-ambit sa kagul-anan uban sa mga tawo sa Dios, kay sa pagpahimulos sa mga kalipayan sa sala sulod sa usa ka panahon;

²⁶accounting the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he looked unto the recompense of reward.

²⁶Nga nag-isip nga ang pagkatalamayon ni Cristo labi pang dakung bahandi kay sa mga bahandi sa Egipto; kay nagpaabut siya sa balus sa katumbasan.

²⁷By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

²⁷Tungod sa pagtoo mibiya siya sa Egipto, sa walay kahadlok sa kaligutgut sa hari, kay nagpadayon siya nga daw nakakita sa dili makita.

²⁸By faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them.

²⁸Tungod sa pagtoo gitukod niya ang pasko, ug ang pagpanablig sa dugo, aron ang maglalaglag sa mga panganay dili makatandog kanila.

²⁹By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were swallowed up.

²⁹Tungod sa pagtoo milatas sila sa dagat nga Mapula nga daw sa mamala nga yuta, nga sa gisulayan sa mga taga-Egipto ang paglatas, nangalumos sila.

³⁰By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they had been compassed about for seven days.

³⁰Tungod sa pagtoo nangapukan ang mga kuta sa Jerico sa human nila paglibuti kini sulod sa pito ka adlaw.

³¹By faith Rahab the harlot perished not with them that were disobedient, having received the spies with peace.

³¹Tungod sa pagtoo si Rahab nga bigaon wala malaglag uban niadtong mga masukihon, sa midawat siya sa mga maniniid nga may pakigdait.

³²And what shall I more say? for the time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah; of David and Samuel and the prophets:

³²Ug unsa pay akong igapamulong? Kay pagakulangon ako sa panahon kong magahisgut pa ako mahitungod kang Gideon, kang Barac, kang Samson, kang Jepte; mahitungod kang David ug kang Samuel, ug sa mga manalagna:

³³who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

³³Nga tungod sa pagtoo nanagpakadaug sa mga gingharian, nanagbuhat sa pagkamatarung, nagpakabaton ug mga saad, nakagtak-up sa mga baba sa mga leon.

³⁴quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, waxed mighty in war, turned to flight armies of aliens.

³⁴Nagpalong sa gahum sa kalayo, nakalikay sa sulab sa espada, gikan sa kaluyahon nangahimong malig-on, nangabaskug sa gubat, nakapakalagiw sa mga kasundalohan sa mga kaaway.

³⁵Women received their dead by a resurrection: and others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

³⁵Mga babaye nanagdawat sa ilang mga minatay pinaagi sa pagkabanhaw: ug ang uban ginasakit nga wala modawat sa ilang kagawasan, aron lamang mahiagum sila sa usa ka labing maayo nga pagkabanhaw.

³⁶and others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

³⁶Ug ang uban may mga pagsulay pinaagi sa mga pagbiaybiay ug mga hampak, oo, ug labaw pa niini, sa mga gapus ug pagkabinilanggo.

³⁷they were stoned, they were sawn asunder, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword: they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated

³⁷Gibato sila, gipanaggabas sila, gipanagtintal, gipamatay sa espada, nagasuroysuroy sila nga nagasaput sa mga panit sa carnero ug sa mga panit sa kanding; sanglit mga nahutdan mga gisakit, mga gipasipalahan,

³⁸(of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves, and the holes of the earth.

³⁸(Kanila ang kalibutan dili takus), nanghisalaag sa mga kamingawan ug kabukiran ug mga langub, ug sa mga lungib sa yuta.

³⁹And these all, having had witness borne to them through their faith, received not the promise,

³⁹Ug kining tanan, sa nabatonan nila ang pagpamatuod kanila tungod sa ilang pagtoo, wala makadawat sa saad,

⁴⁰God having provided some better thing concerning us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.

⁴⁰Sanglit ang Dios nakagtagana na ug labing maayong butang mahitungod kanato, nga gawas kanato dili sila pagahingpiton.
