¹Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

¹Ug may tawo nga nagamasakiton, nga si Lazaro sa Betania, lungsod nga diyutay ni Maria, ug sa igsoon niya nga si Marta.

²And it was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.

²Ug siya mao ang Maria nga nagdihog sa Ginoo sa pahumot, ug nagapahid sa mga tiil niini sa iyang mga buhok, kang kansang igsoon nga si Lazaro, nagmasakiton.

³The sisters therefore sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

³Busa, ang mga igsoon nga babaye nanagpasugo kaniya, sa pag-ingon: Ginoo, ania karon, ang imong gihigugma nagamasakiton.

⁴But when Jesus heard it, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified thereby.

⁴Ug sa hingdunggan ni Jesus, miingon: Kining sakita dili makamatay, kondili nga sa himaya sa Dios, aron ang Anak sa Dios pagahimayaon tungod niini.

⁵Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

⁵Si Jesus nahagugma kang Marta ug sa iyang igsoon nga babaye, ug kang Lazaro.

⁶When therefore he heard that he was sick, he abode at that time two days in the place where he was.

⁶Busa sa nakadungog siya, nga kini nagamasakiton, mipabilin pa siya ug duha ka adlaw niadtong dapita diin didto siya.

⁷Then after this he saith to the disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.

⁷Sa human niini miingon siya sa iyang mga tinon-an: Mangadto kita pag-usab sa Judea:

⁸The disciples say unto him, Rabbi, the Jews were but now seeking to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?

⁸Ang mga tinon-an nanag-ingon kaniya: Rabbi, dili pa lamang dugay nga ang mga Judio nanagpaninguha sa pagbato kanimo, ug moadto ba ikaw pag-usab didto?

⁹Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

⁹Si Jesus mitubag: Dili ba napulo ug duha ang mga takna sa adlaw? Ang nagalakaw sa adlaw, dili mahipangdol, kay makakita sa kahayag niining kalibutan.

¹⁰But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.

¹⁰Apan ang nagalakaw sa gabii, mahipangdol siya; kay wala kaniya ang kahayag.

¹¹These things spake he: and after this he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus is fallen asleep; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

¹¹Kining mga butanga gisulti niya, ug siya miingon kanila: Ang atong abyan nga si Lazaro natulog; apan moadto ako sa pagpukaw kaniya gikan sa paghikatulog.

¹²The disciples therefore said unto him, Lord, if he is fallen asleep, he will recover.

¹²Unya ang iyang mga tinon-an nanag-ingon kaniya: Ginoo, kong natulog siya, mamaayo siya.

¹³Now Jesus had spoken of his death: but they thought that he spake of taking rest in sleep.

¹³Apan ang gisulti ni Jesus mao ang mahatungod sa iyang kamatayon, ug sila nagadahum nga nagasulti siya sa paghikatulog nga kinaiya.

¹⁴Then Jesus therefore said unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

¹⁴Busa, si Jesus miingon kanila sa mahayag gayud: Si Lazaro namatay;

¹⁵And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

¹⁵Ug ako nalipay tungod kaninyo, nga wala ako didto, aron managpanoo kamo. Mangadto kita kaniya.

¹⁶Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said unto his fellow-disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

¹⁶Unya si Tomas, nga ginanganlan Didimo, miingon sa iyang mga masigkatinon-an: Moadto usab kita, aron mangamatay kita uban kaniya.

¹⁷So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.

¹⁷Sa ingon niana sa pag-abut ni Jesus, hingkit-an niya nga may upat na ka adlaw nga siya didto sa lubnganan;

¹⁸Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off;

¹⁸Ug ang Betania haduol sa Jerusalem, nga may tolo ka kilometro.

¹⁹and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.

¹⁹Ug daghan sa mga Judio ang nanganhi sa paglipay kang Marta ug kang Maria mahatungod sa ilang igsoon.

²⁰Martha therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary still sat in the house.

²⁰Unya si Marta, sa pagkadungog niya nga si Jesus nagapaingon nganhi, miadto ug misugat kaniya; apan si Maria napabilin nga nagalingkod sa balay.

²¹Martha therefore said unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

²¹Unya si Marta miingon kang Jesus: Ginoo, ug dinhi ka pa unta, wala unta mamatay ang akong igsoon;

²²And even now I know that, whatsoever thou shalt ask of God, God will give thee.

²²Apan bisan karon ako nahibalo, nga bisan unsang butanga nga pangayoon mo sa Dios, igatugot sa Dios kanimo.

²³Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

²³Si Jesus miingon kaniya: Ang imong igsoon mabanhaw.

²⁴Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

²⁴Si Marta miingon kaniya: Ako nahibalo nga mabanhaw siya sa pagkabanhaw sa adlaw nga katapusan.

²⁵Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live;

²⁵Si Jesus miingon kaniya: Ako mao ang pagkabanhaw ug ang kinabuhi: ang motoo kanako, bisan siya namatay, mabuhi pa siya.

²⁶and whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die. Believest thou this?

²⁶Ug ang tanan nga nabuhi ug mitoo kanako, dili na gayud mamatay. Mitoo ba ikaw niini?

²⁷She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I have believed that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, [even] he that cometh into the world.

²⁷Siya miingon kaniya: Oo, Ginoo, ako mitoo nga ikaw mao ang Cristo, ang Anak sa Dios, nga mianhi sa kalibutan.

²⁸And when she had said this, she went away, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Teacher is her, and calleth thee.

²⁸Ug sa nakaingon siya niini, milakaw siya, ug gitawag sa tago si Maria, nga iyang igsoon, ug miingon kaniya: Ang Magtutudlo ania dinhi, ug nagatawag kanimo.

²⁹And she, when she heard it, arose quickly, and went unto him.

²⁹Sa pagkadungog niya, mitindog sa madali, ug miadto ngadto kaniya.

³⁰(Now Jesus was not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha met him.)

³⁰(Ug si Jesus wala pa makasulod sa balangay, kondili nga atua pa sa dapit diin siya hikit-i ni Marta.)

³¹The Jews then who were with her in the house, and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, supposing that she was going unto the tomb to weep there.

³¹Unya ang mga Judio nga didto kauban ni Maria sa balay ug nagalipay kaniya, sa hingkit-an nila, nga siya mitindog sa madali ug milakaw, mingnunot sila kaniya, nga nanag-ingon: Moadto siya sa lubnganan sa paghilak didto.

³²Mary therefore, when she came where Jesus was, and saw him, fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

³²Unya si Maria, sa pag-abut niya didto sa dapit diin si Jesus, ug sa hingkit-an niya siya, mihapa sa iyang mga tiil, ug nag-ingon kaniya: Ginoo, kong dinhi ka pa unta, wala unta mamatay ang akong igsoon.

³³When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews [also] weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,

³³Busa sa pagkakita ni Jesus kaniya nga nagahilak, ug sa mga Judio nga nanghilak usab, nga nanguban kaniya, nanghupaw siya sa iyang espiritu, ug naguol;

³⁴and said, Where have ye laid him? They say unto him, Lord, come and see.

³⁴Ug miingon: Hain ninyo ibutang siya? Sila nanag-ingon kaniya: Ginoo, umari ka ug tuman-aw.

³⁵Jesus wept.

³⁵Si Jesus mihilak.

³⁶The Jews therefore said, Behold how he loved him!

³⁶Unya ang mga Judio nanag-ingon: Tan-awa, pagkadaku sa iyang gugma kaniya!

³⁷But some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of him that was blind, have caused that this man also should not die?

³⁷Ug ang uban kanila nanag-ingon: Dili ba makahimo kini, nga nagpabuka sa mga mata sa buta, sa pagbuhat aron kining tawohana dili mamatay?

³⁸Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.

³⁸Unya si Jesus, sa nanghupaw pag-usab sa iyang kaugalingon, miduol sa lubnganan. Kadto usa ka lungib ug may usa ka bato nga gisampong niini.

³⁹Jesus saith, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time the body decayeth; for he hath been [dead] four days.

³⁹Si Jesus miingon: Kuhaa ninyo ang bato. Si Marta, nga igsoon sa minatay, miingon kaniya: Ginoo, niining panahona mabaho na siya, kay may upat na ka adlaw nga siya namatay.

⁴⁰Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou believedst, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

⁴⁰Si Jesus miingon kaniya: Wala ba ako mag-ingon kanimo, nga kong motoo ka, makakita ka sa himaya sa Dios?

⁴¹So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou heardest me.

⁴¹Unya gikuha nila ang bato. Ug si Jesus miyahat sa iyang mga mata sa itaas, ug miingon: Amahan, nagapasalamat ako kanimo nga gipatalinghugan mo ako.

⁴²And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the multitude that standeth around I said it, that they may believe that thou didst send me.

⁴²Ug ako nahibalo nga sa gihapon ginapatalinghugan mo ako; apan tungod sa panon sa katawohan nga nanag-alirong giingon ko kini, aron sila motoo nga gisugo mo ako.

⁴³And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

⁴³Ug sa naka-ingon siya niini, misinggit siya sa dakung tingog: Lazaro, umari ka sa gawas.

⁴⁴He that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave-clothes; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁴⁴Ug migula ang namatay, nga ginapus ang mga tiil ug mga kamot, sa mga igabugkos nga sa lubnganan; ug ang iyang nawong naputos sa usa ka panyo. Si Jesus miingon kanila: Badbari ninyo siya, ug palakta siya.

⁴⁵Many therefore of the Jews, who came to Mary and beheld that which he did, believed on him.

⁴⁵Busa daghan sa mga Judio nga nanganhi kang Maria, ug nanagpakakita sa gibuhat ni Jesus, nanagpanoo kaniya.

⁴⁶But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them the things which Jesus had done.

⁴⁶Apan ang uban kanila nangadto sa mga Fariseo, ug ilang gisugilon kanila ang gibuhat ni Jesus.

⁴⁷The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs.

⁴⁷Unya ang mga pangulong sacerdote ug ang mga Fariseo nanagtigum sa Sanhedrin ug nanag-ingon: Unsay atong pagabuhaton? Kay kining tawohana nagabuhat sa daghang mga ilhanan.

⁴⁸If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.

⁴⁸Kong atong pasagdan kini sa ingon, ang tanan managpanoo kaniya; ug manganhi ang mga Romanhon, ug pagakuhaan nila kita sa atong dapit nga puloy-anan ug sa atong nasud.

⁴⁹But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

⁴⁹Ug ang usa kanila, si Caifas, nga mao ang labawng sacerdote niadtong tuiga, miingon kanila: Kamo walay bisan unsa nga hingbaloan;

⁵⁰nor do ye take account that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

⁵⁰Wala ngani kamo managhunahuna nga maayo kaninyo nga mamatay ang usa ka tawo tungod sa katawohan ug nga dili mawala ang tibook nga nasud.

⁵¹Now this he said not of himself: but, being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation;

⁵¹Karon kini wala iga-ingon niya sa iyang kaugalingon; kondili kay siya mao ang labawng sacerdote niadtong tuiga, gitagna niya nga si Jesus mamatay tungod sa nasud.

⁵²and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God that are scattered abroad.

⁵²Ug dili lamang tungod sa nasud, kondili usab aron matingub niya sa usa ang mga anak sa Dios, nga ginapatlaag.

⁵³So from that day forth they took counsel that they might put him to death.

⁵³Sa ingon niana, sukad niadtong adlawa nanagsabut sila sa pagpatay kaniya.

⁵⁴Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed thence into the country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there he tarried with the disciples.

⁵⁴Busa, si Jesus wala na molakaw sa dayag sa taliwala sa mga Judio, kondili mipahawa siya didto napaingon sa yuta nga haduol sa kamingawan, sa lungsod nga ginganlan Efraim, ug didto mipuyo siya kauban sa iyang mga tinon-an.

⁵⁵Now the passover of the Jews was at hand: and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the passover, to purify themselves.

⁵⁵Ug nagakahaduol na ang pasko sa mga Judio; ug daghan ang mitungas gikan sa kaumahan paingon sa Jerusalem, sa wala pa ang pasko, aron sa pagpanghinlo sa ilang kaugalingon.

⁵⁶They sought therefore for Jesus, and spake one with another, as they stood in the temple, What think ye? That he will not come to the feast?

⁵⁶Ug sila nanagpangita kang Jesus, ug nanag-ingon ang uban sa uban nga didto sa templo: Unsa ba ang inyong hunahuna? Nga dili ba siya moanhi sa fiesta?

⁵⁷Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given commandment, that, if any man knew where he was, he should show it, that they might take him.

⁵⁷Karon ang mga pangulong sacerdote ug ang mga Fariseo, nanagsugo nga, kong kinsa ang nasayud kong hain si Jesus, magpahayag siya niini aron siya pagadakpon nila.
