¹Whence [come] wars and whence [come] fightings among you? [come they] not hence, [even] of your pleasures that war in your members?

¹ O ble y daeth ymrafaelion a chwerylon yn eich plith? Onid o'r chwantau sy'n milwrio yn eich aelodau?

²Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and covet, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war; ye have not, because ye ask not.

² Yr ydych yn chwennych ac yn methu cael; yr ydych yn llofruddio ac eiddigeddu ac yn methu meddiannu; yr ydych yn ymladd a rhyfela. Nid ydych yn cael am nad ydych yn gofyn.

³Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend [it] in your pleasures.

³ A phan fyddwch yn gofyn, nid ydych yn derbyn, a hynny am eich bod yn gofyn ar gam, �'ch bryd ar wario yr hyn a gewch ar eich pleserau.

⁴Ye adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world maketh himself an enemy of God.

⁴ Chwi rai anffyddlon, oni wyddoch fod cyfeillgarwch �'r byd yn elyniaeth tuag at Dduw? Y mae unrhyw un sy'n mynnu bod yn gyfaill i'r byd yn ei wneud ei hun yn elyn i Dduw.

⁵Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? Doth the spirit which he made to dwell in us long unto envying?

⁵ Neu a ydych yn tybio nad oes ystyr i'r Ysgrythur sy'n dweud, "Y mae Duw'n dyheu hyd at eiddigedd am yr ysbryd a osododd i drigo ynom."

⁶But he giveth more grace. Wherefore [the scripture] saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

⁶ A gras mwy y mae ef yn ei roi. Oherwydd y mae'r Ysgrythur yn dweud: "Y mae Duw'n gwrthwynebu'r beilchion, ond i'r gostyngedig y mae'n rhoi gras."

⁷Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

⁷ Felly, ymddarostyngwch i Dduw. Gwrthsafwch y diafol, ac fe ffy oddi wrthych.

⁸Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded.

⁸ Nesewch at Dduw, ac fe nes� ef atoch chwi. Glanhewch eich dwylo, chwi bechaduriaid, a phurwch eich calonnau, chwi bobl ddau feddwl.

⁹Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

⁹ Tristewch a galarwch ac wylwch. Bydded i'ch chwerthin droi'n alar a'ch llawenydd yn brudd-der.

¹⁰Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall exalt you.

¹⁰ Ymostyngwch o flaen yr Arglwydd, a bydd ef yn eich dyrchafu chwi.

¹¹Speak not one against another, brethren. He that speaketh against a brother, or judgeth his brother, speaketh against the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judgest the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

¹¹ Peidiwch � dilorni eich gilydd, gyfeillion; y mae'r sawl sy'n dilorni rhywun arall, neu'n ei farnu, yn dilorni'r Gyfraith ac yn barnu'r Gyfraith. Ac os wyt ti yn barnu'r Gyfraith, yna nid gwneuthurwr y Gyfraith mohonot, ond ei barnwr hi.

¹²One [only] is the lawgiver and judge, [even] he who is able to save and to destroy: but who art thou that judgest thy neighbor?

¹² Nid oes ond un deddfroddwr a barnwr, sef yr un sy'n abl i achub a dinistrio. Pwy wyt ti i eistedd mewn barn ar dy gymydog?

¹³Come now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go into this city, and spend a year there, and trade, and get gain:

¹³ Clywch yn awr, chwi sy'n dweud, "Heddiw neu yfory, byddwn yn mynd i'r ddinas a'r ddinas, ac fe dreuliwn flwyddyn yno yn marchnata ac yn gwneud arian."

¹⁴whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? For ye are a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

¹⁴ Nid oes gan rai fel chwi ddim syniad sut y bydd hi ar eich bywyd yfory. Nid ydych ond tarth, sy'n cael ei weld am ychydig, ac yna'n diflannu.

¹⁵For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that.

¹⁵ Dylech ddweud, yn hytrach, "Os yr Arglwydd a'i myn, byddwn yn fyw ac fe wnawn hyn neu'r llall."

¹⁶But now ye glory in your vauntings: all such glorying is evil.

¹⁶ Ond yn lle hynny, ymffrostio yr ydych yn eich honiadau balch. Y mae pob ymffrost o'r fath yn ddrwg.

¹⁷To him therefore that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

¹⁷ Ac felly, pechod yw i rywun beidio � gwneud y daioni y mae'n gwybod y dylai ei wneud.
