¹And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

²Then Jezebel send a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to-morrow about this time.

²Siis läkitas Iisebel käskjala Eelijale ütlema: 'Jumalad tehku minuga ükskõik mida, kui ma homme sel ajal ei tee sinu hingega, nagu sündis kõigi nende hingedega!'

³And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

³Kui Eelija seda nägi, siis ta võttis kätte ja läks ära oma hinge pärast. Ta jõudis Beer-Sebasse, mis kuulub Juudale, ja jättis oma poisi sinna.

⁴But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper-tree: and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is enough; now, O Jehovah, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

⁴Ta ise aga käis kõrbes ühe päevateekonna ja tuli ning istus ühe leetpõõsa alla; siis soovis ta oma hinges, et ta võiks surra, ja ütles: 'Küllalt! Nüüd, Issand, võta mu hing, sest ma pole parem kui mu vanemad!'

⁵And he lay down and slept under a juniper-tree; and, behold, an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

⁵Ja ta heitis maha ning jäi magama leetpõõsa alla. Aga vaata, üks ingel puudutas teda ja ütles temale: 'Tõuse üles, söö!'

⁶And he looked, and, behold, there was at his head a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

⁶Ja kui ta vaatas, ennäe, siis oli ta peatsis üks kuumadel kividel küpsetatud kook ja kruus vett. Ta sõi ja jõi ning heitis jälle magama.

⁷And the angel of Jehovah came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for thee.

⁷Aga Issanda ingel tuli veel teist korda ja puudutas teda ning ütles: 'Tõuse üles, söö, sest sul on veel pikk tee ees!'

⁸And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

⁸Siis ta tõusis, sõi ja jõi ning käis selle söömise rammuga nelikümmend päeva ja nelikümmend ööd kuni Jumala mäeni, Hoorebini.

⁹And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of Jehovah came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

⁹Seal läks ta ühte koopasse ja ööbis seal. Ja vaata, temale tuli Issanda sõna, kes küsis temalt: 'Mis sa siin teed, Eelija?'

¹⁰And he said, I have been very jealous for Jehovah, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword: and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

¹⁰Ja ta vastas: 'Ma olen tõsiselt ägestunud Issanda, vägede Jumala pärast, sest Iisraeli lapsed on hüljanud sinu lepingu, nad on kiskunud maha sinu altarid ja on mõõgaga tapnud sinu prohvetid. Mina üksi olen üle jäänud ja nad püüavad võtta mu hinge.'

¹¹And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before Jehovah. And, behold, Jehovah passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before Jehovah; but Jehovah was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but Jehovah was not in the earthquake:

¹¹Siis ta ütles: 'Mine välja ja seisa mäe peal Issanda ees!' Ja vaata, Issand läks mööda, ja tugev ning võimas tuul, mis lõhestas mägesid ja purustas kaljusid, käis Issanda ees. Aga Issandat ei olnud tuules. Ja tuule järel tuli maavärisemine, aga Issandat ei olnud maavärisemises.

¹²and after the earthquake a fire; but Jehovah was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

¹²Ja maavärisemise järel tuli tuli, aga Issandat ei olnud tules. Ja tule järel tuli vaikne, tasane sahin.

¹³And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

¹⁵And Jehovah said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, thou shalt anoint Hazael to be king over Syria;

¹⁵Ja Issand ütles temale: 'Mine tagasi oma tuldud teed Damaskuse kõrbe! Mine ja võia Hasael Süüria kuningaks!

¹⁶and Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

¹⁶Jehu, Nimsi poeg, aga võia Iisraeli kuningaks ja Eliisa, Saafati poeg Aabel-Meholast, võia enda asemel prohvetiks!

¹⁷And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay; and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

¹⁷Ja olgu nõnda: kes pääseb Hasaeli mõõga eest, selle surmab Jehu, ja kes pääseb Jehu mõõga eest, selle surmab Eliisa!

¹⁸Yet will I leave [me] seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

¹⁸Aga ma jätan Iisraelis üle seitse tuhat: kõik põlved, mis ei ole nõtkunud Baali ees, ja kõik suud, mis ei ole teda suudelnud.'

¹⁹So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing, with twelve yoke [of oxen] before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed over unto him, and cast his mantle upon him.

¹⁹Siis ta läks sealt ära ja leidis Eliisa, Saafati poja, kes oli kündmas; ta ees käis kaksteist härjapaari ja ta ise oli kaheteistkümnendaga. Kui Eelija temast mööda läks, siis ta heitis oma kuue tema peale.

²⁰And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again; for what have I done to thee?

²⁰Ja Eliisa jättis veised ja jooksis Eelijale järele ning ütles: 'Lase mind ometi oma isale ja emale suud anda, siis ma käin su järel!' Ta vastas temale: 'Mine, aga tule tagasi, sest ära unusta, mis ma sulle olen teinud!'

²¹And he returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

²¹Ja ta läks tema juurest tagasi, võttis veistepaari ning tappis need; veiste iketega keetis ta liha ning andis rahvale, ja nad sõid. Siis ta tõusis ja käis Eelija järel ning teenis teda.
