¹And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.

²And now, behold, the king walketh before you; and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my youth unto this day.

³Here I am: witness against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I taken a ransom to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

³Siin ma olen! Tunnistage minu vastu Issanda ja tema võitu ees: kelle härja ma olen võtnud? Või kelle eesli ma olen võtnud? Või keda ma olen rõhunud, kellele liiga teinud? Või kelle käest ma olen võtnud meelehead, et sellega petta oma silmi? Ma siis tasun teile!'

⁴And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man's hand.

⁴Nad vastasid: 'Sa ei ole meid rõhunud ega meile liiga teinud, ja sa ei ole kellegi käest midagi võtnud.'

⁵And he said unto them, Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand. And they said, He is witness.

⁵Siis ta ütles neile: 'Issand on tunnistajaks teie vastu ja tema võitu on tunnistajaks tänasel päeval, et teie ei ole mu käest midagi leidnud.' Ja nad vastasid: 'Tema on tunnistaja.'

⁶And Samuel said unto the people, It is Jehovah that appointed Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

⁶Ja Saamuel ütles rahvale: 'Tunnistaja on Issand, kes kutsus Moosese ja Aaroni ja kes tõi teie vanemad ära Egiptusemaalt.

⁷Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah concerning all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which he did to you and to your fathers.

⁷Nüüd astuge ette ja ma lähen teiega kohtusse Issanda ees kõigi Issanda õiglaste tegude pärast, mis ta teile ja teie vanemaile on teinud!

⁸When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto Jehovah, then Jehovah sent Moses and Aaron, who brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place.

⁸Kui Jaakob oli tulnud Egiptusesse ja teie vanemad kisendasid Issanda poole, siis läkitas Issand Moosese ja Aaroni ja nemad tõid teie vanemad ära Egiptusest ning asustasid nad sellesse paika.

⁹But they forgat Jehovah their God; and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab; and they fought against them.

⁹Aga nad unustasid Issanda, oma Jumala, ja tema andis nad Haasori väepealiku Siisera, vilistite ja Moabi kuninga kätte ja need sõdisid nende vastu.

¹⁰And they cried unto Jehovah, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have served the Baalim and the Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.

¹⁰Siis nad kisendasid Issanda poole ja ütlesid: Me oleme pattu teinud, et jätsime maha Issanda ning teenisime baale ja astartesid; aga päästa meid nüüd meie vaenlaste käest, siis me teenime sind!

¹¹And Jehovah sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and ye dwelt in safety.

¹¹Ja Issand läkitas Jerubbaali, Bedani, Jefta ja Saamueli ning päästis teid teie ümberkaudsete vaenlaste käest ja te võisite elada julgesti.

¹²And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when Jehovah your God was your king.

¹²Aga kui te nägite, et ammonlaste kuningas Naahas tuli teie vastu, siis te ütlesite mulle: Ei! Meie üle valitsegu kuningas! Kuigi Issand, teie Jumal oli teie kuningas.

¹³Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have asked for: and, behold, Jehovah hath set a king over you.

¹³Ja nüüd, vaata, siin on kuningas, kelle te olete valinud, keda te nõudsite. Jah, näe, Issand on andnud teile kuninga.

¹⁴If ye will fear Jehovah, and serve him, and hearken unto his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, and both ye and also the king that reigneth over you be followers of Jehovah your God, [well]:

¹⁴Kui te kardate Issandat ja teenite teda ja kuulate tema häält ega tõrgu Issanda käsu vastu, siis te jääte elama, niihästi teie kui kuningas, kes valitseb teie üle pärast Issandat, teie Jumalat.

¹⁵but if ye will not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah, but rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then will the hand of Jehovah be against you, as it was against your fathers.

¹⁵Aga kui te ei kuula Issanda häält ja tõrgute Issanda käsu vastu, siis on Issanda käsi teie vastu, nõnda nagu ta oli teie vanemate vastu.

¹⁶Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which Jehovah will do before your eyes.

¹⁶Astuge nüüd ette ja vaadake seda suurt tegu, mis Issand teeb teie silme ees!

¹⁷Is it not wheat harvest to-day? I will call unto Jehovah, that he may send thunder and rain; and ye shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of Jehovah, in asking you a king.

¹⁷Eks ole nüüd nisulõikuse aeg? Aga mina hüüan Issanda poole, et ta annaks äikest ja vihma, et te mõistaksite ja näeksite, kui suur on Issanda silmis teie pahategu, mis te olete teinud, nõudes enestele kuningat.'

¹⁸So Samuel called unto Jehovah; and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel.

¹⁸Ja Saamuel hüüdis Issanda poole ning Issand andis selsamal päeval äikest ja vihma. Siis kogu rahvas kartis väga Issandat ja Saamueli.

¹⁹And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto Jehovah thy God, that we die not; for we have added unto all our sins [this] evil, to ask us a king.

¹⁹Ja kogu rahvas ütles Saamuelile: 'Palu oma sulaste eest Issandat, oma Jumalat, et me ei sureks, sest me oleme lisanud kõigile oma pattudele veel selle pahateo, et nõudsime enestele kuningat!'

²⁰And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not; ye have indeed done all this evil; yet turn not aside from following Jehovah, but serve Jehovah with all your heart:

²⁰Ja Saamuel ütles rahvale: 'Ärge kartke! Te olete küll teinud kõike seda kurja, ometi ärge taganege Issanda järelt, vaid teenige Issandat kõigest südamest!

²¹and turn ye not aside; for [then would ye go] after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver, for they are vain.

²¹Ärge taganege järgnema tühiseile jumalaile, kes ei too kasu ega päästa, sellepärast et need on tühised!

²²For Jehovah will not forsake his people for his great name's sake, because it hath pleased Jehovah to make you a people unto himself.

²²Sest Issand ei jäta maha oma rahvast oma suure nime pärast, vaid Issand on otsustanud teha teid enesele rahvaks.

²³Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovah in ceasing to pray for you: but I will instruct you in the good and the right way.

²³Ka mina ise - jäägu see minust kaugele! - teeksin pattu Issanda vastu, kui ma lakkaksin palvetamast teie eest. Mina aga tahan teile õpetada head ja õiget teed.

²⁴Only fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider how great things he hath done for you.

²⁴Kartke ainult Issandat ja teenige teda ustavalt kõigest südamest, sest vaadake, mis suuri asju ta teile on teinud!

²⁵But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

²⁵Aga kui te ikkagi teete kurja, siis te hukkute, niihästi teie ise kui teie kuningas.'
