1But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that aught be written unto you.
1Aegade ja tundide kohta, vennad, ei ole aga vaja teile kirjutada,
2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
2sest te teate täpselt, et Issanda päev tuleb just nii nagu varas öösel.
3When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.
3Kui öeldakse: 'Nüüd on rahu ja kindel olek', siis langeb äkiline hukatus nende peale nagu sünnitusvalud lapseootel naise peale, ja nad ei pääse pakku.
4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief:
4Teie aga, vennad, ei ole pimeduses, nii et see päev saaks teid tabada nagu varas.
5for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness;
5Teie kõik olete ju valguse lapsed ja päeva lapsed. Meie ei ole öö ega pimeduse lapsed.
6so then let us not sleep, as do the rest, but let us watch and be sober.
6Niisiis, ärgem magagem nagu teised, vaid olgem ärkvel ja kained,
7For they that sleep sleep in the night: and they that are drunken are drunken in the night.

8But let us, since we are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
8Aga meie, kes me oleme päeva lapsed, olgem kained, rõivastatud usu ja armastuse kaitserüüga ning päästelootuse kiivriga,
9For God appointed us not into wrath, but unto the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
9sest Jumal ei ole meid asetanud viha alla, vaid pääste saamiseks meie Issanda Jeesuse Kristuse läbi,
10who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
10kes meie eest on surnud, et meie, kas me oleme ärkvel või magame, üheskoos temaga elaksime.
11Wherefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as also ye do.
11Seepärast julgustage üksteist ja igaüks kosutagu teist, nagu te seda teetegi!
12But we beseech you, brethren, to know them that labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
12Ent me palume teid, vennad, tunnustada neid, kes teie seas tööd teevad ja teid Issandas juhatavad ning noomivad,
13and to esteem them exceeding highly in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
13ja pidada neist armastuses üliväga lugu nende töö pärast. Hoidke omavahel rahu!
14And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all.
14Meie aga manitseme teid, vennad: noomige korratuid, julgustage pelglikke, aidake nõrku, olge pika meelega kõikide vastu!
15See that none render unto any one evil for evil; but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all.
15Vaadake, et keegi teisele kurja ei tasuks kurjaga, vaid taotlege alati head üksteisele ja kõikidele!
16Rejoice always;
16Rõõmustage alati,
17pray without ceasing;
17palvetage lakkamatult,
18in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you-ward.
18tänage kõige eest - sest see on, mida Jumal teilt tahab Jeesuses Kristuses!
19Quench not the Spirit;
19Ärge kustutage Vaimu,
20despise not prophesyings;
20ärge põlastage prohvetiandi,
21prove all things; hold fast that which is good;
21katsuge läbi kõik, pidage kinni heast,
22abstain from every form of evil.
22hoiduge igasuguse kurja eest!
23And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
23Aga rahu Jumal ise pühitsegu teid läbinisti ning teie vaim ja hing ja ihu olgu tervikuna hoitud laitmatuna meie Issanda Jeesuse Kristuse tulemiseks!
24Faithful is he that calleth you, who will also do it.
24Ustav on see, kes teid kutsub; küll tema teebki seda.
25Brethren, pray for us.

26Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.

27I adjure you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the brethren.
