¹The word of Jehovah came unto me again, saying,

¹Ja mulle tuli Issanda sõna; ta ütles:

²What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?

²'Mis teil on mõttes, kui lausute seda kõnekäändu Iisraeli maa kohta, öeldes: 'Isad sõid tooreid viinamarju, aga laste hambad on hellad'?

³As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, ye shall not have [occasion] any more to use this proverb in Israel.

³Nii tõesti kui ma elan, ütleb Issand Jumal, ei tohi teil enam olla selle kõnekäänu lausujat Iisraelis.

⁴Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

⁴Vaata, kõik hinged on minu päralt: nagu isa hing, nõnda poja hing - need on minu. Hing, kes teeb pattu, peab surema!

⁵But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,

⁵Aga kui keegi on õige ja teeb, mis on seadusepärane ja õige:

⁶and hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbor's wife, neither hath come near to a woman in her impurity,

⁶ei söö mägedel, ei tõsta silmi Iisraeli soo ebajumalate poole, ei häbista oma ligimese naist, ei ligine naisele, kellel on kuuveri,

⁷and hath not wronged any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath taken nought by robbery, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;

⁷ei rõhu kedagi, annab tagasi oma võlglase pandi, ei röövi, annab oma leiba näljasele, riietab alastiolijat,

⁸he that hath not given forth upon interest, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true justice between man and man,

⁸ei anna raha rendi peale ega võta liigkasu, hoiab oma käe ülekohtust, teeb tõelist õigust inimeste vahel,

⁹hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept mine ordinances, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord Jehovah.

⁹käib mu määruste järgi ja peab mu seadusi, neid ustavalt täites - see on õige: ta peab tõesti elama, ütleb Issand Jumal.

¹⁰If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth any one of these things,

¹⁰Aga kui temale sünnib üleannetu poeg, kes valab verd ja kes teeb üheainsagi neist tegudest -

¹¹and that doeth not any of those [duties], but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbor's wife,

¹¹kusjuures tema ise ei ole aga teinud kõike seda -, ja too sööb mägedel, häbistab oma ligimese naist,

¹²hath wronged the poor and needy, hath taken by robbery, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,

¹²rõhub viletsat ja vaest, röövib, ei anna panti tagasi, tõstab silmad ebajumalate poole, teeb jäledust,

¹³hath given forth upon interest, and hath taken increase; shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.

¹³annab raha rendi peale ja võtab liigkasu - kas peaks too jääma elama? Ta ei jää, ta on teinud kõiki neid jäledusi, ta peab surema, ta veri tulgu tema peale!

¹⁴Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins, which he hath done, and feareth, and doeth not such like;

¹⁴Aga vaata, kui temale sünnib poeg, kes näeb kõiki oma isa patte, mida see on teinud, ja ta kardab ega tee nõnda:

¹⁵that hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbor's wife,

¹⁵tema ei söö mägedel, ei tõsta silmi Iisraeli soo ebajumalate poole, ei häbista oma ligimese naist,

¹⁶neither hath wronged any, hath not taken aught to pledge, neither hath taken by robbery, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;

¹⁶ei rõhu kedagi, ei võta panti, ei röövi, annab oma leiba näljasele, riietab alastiolijat,

¹⁷that hath withdrawn his hand from the poor, that hath not received interest nor increase, hath executed mine ordinances, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

¹⁷hoiab oma käe viletsa kallalt, ei võta renti ega liigkasu, teeb mu seaduste järgi, käib mu määruste järgi - tema ei sure oma isa süü pärast, ta jääb tõesti elama.

¹⁸As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he shall die in his iniquity.

¹⁸Aga tema isa, vaata, peab surema oma süü pärast, sest ta on rõhunud, on röövinud oma venda ja on teinud oma rahva keskel, mis ei ole hea.

¹⁹Yet say ye, Wherefore doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? when the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.

¹⁹Ja teie küsite: 'Mispärast ei kanna poeg isa süüd?' Kui poeg on teinud, mis on kohus ja õige, on pidanud kõiki mu määrusi ja on neid täitnud - siis peab ta tõesti jääma elama!

²⁰The soul that sinneth, it shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

²⁰Hing, kes teeb pattu, peab surema! Poeg ei kanna isa süüd ja isa ei kanna poja süüd: õige peale tulgu tema õigus ja õela peale tema õelus!

²¹But if the wicked turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

²¹Aga kui õel pöördub kõigist oma pattudest, mis ta on teinud, ja peab kõiki mu määrusi ja teeb, mis on kohus ja õige - siis peab ta tõesti elama; ta ei sure.

²²None of his transgressions that he hath committed shall be remembered against him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

²²Ühtegi tema üleastumist, mis ta on teinud, ei tule meeles pidada; oma õiguse pärast, mida ta on osutanud, peab ta jääma elama.

²³Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? saith the Lord Jehovah; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?

²³Kas mul tõesti peaks olema hea meel õela surmast, ütleb Issand Jumal? Kas mitte sellest, et ta pöördub ära oma teedelt ja jääb elama?

²⁴But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? None of his righteous deeds that he hath done shall be remembered: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

²⁴Ja kui õige pöördub oma õigusest ja teeb ülekohut, teeb kõiki neidsamu jäledusi, mida õel teeb, kas ta peaks jääma elama? Ühtegi tema õiget tegu, mis ta on teinud, ei tule meeles pidada; oma truudusetuse pärast, mida ta on osutanud, ja oma patu pärast, mida ta on teinud, peab ta surema.

²⁵Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel: Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?

²⁵Aga teie ütlete: 'Issanda tee ei ole õige!' Kuulge ometi! Iisraeli sugu! Minu tee ei olevat õige! Kas mitte nõnda: teie oma teed ei ole õiged?

²⁶When the righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth therein; in his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

²⁶Kui õige pöördub oma õigusest ja teeb ülekohut ning nende pärast sureb, siis ta sureb oma ülekohtu pärast, mida ta on teinud.

²⁷Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

²⁷Ja kui õel pöördub oma õelusest, mida ta on teinud, ja teeb, mis on kohus ja õige, siis ta hoiab oma elu alles.

²⁸Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

²⁸Sest kui ta näeb ja pöördub kõigist oma üleastumistest, mida ta on teinud, siis ta jääb tõesti elama; ta ei sure.

²⁹Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?

²⁹Aga Iisraeli sugu ütleb: 'Issanda tee ei ole õige!' Minu teed ei olevat õiged, Iisraeli sugu! Kas mitte nõnda: teie oma teed ei ole õiged?

³⁰Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord Jehovah. Return ye, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

³⁰Seepärast ma mõistan kohut teie üle, Iisraeli sugu, igaühe üle ta eluviiside kohaselt, ütleb Issand Jumal. Pöörduge ja taganege kõigist oma üleastumistest, et teie süü ei saaks teile komistuseks.

³¹Cast away from you all your transgressions, wherein ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

³¹Heitke eneste pealt ära kõik oma üleastumised, millega te olete üle astunud, ja valmistage enestele uus süda ja uus vaim! Miks te tahate surra, Iisraeli sugu?

³²For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord Jehovah: wherefore turn yourselves, and live.

³²Sest mul ei ole head meelt surija surmast, ütleb Issand Jumal. Seepärast pöörduge ja elage!
