¹O Israel, return unto Jehovah thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.

¹Samaaria peab kandma karistust, sest ta on vastu pannud oma Jumalale: nad langevad mõõga läbi, nende lapsed rebitakse tükkideks ja nende rasedad lõigatakse lõhki.

²Take with you words, and return unto Jehovah: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and accept that which is good: so will we render [as] bullocks [the offering of] our lips.

²Pöördu, Iisrael, Issanda, oma Jumala juurde, sest sa oled komistanud omaenese süü läbi!

³Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, [Ye are] our gods; for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.

³Võtke enestega kaasa sõnad ja pöörduge Issanda poole, öelge temale: 'Anna andeks kõik süü, võta meid armulikult vastu, me toome oma huulte vilja!

⁴I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely; for mine anger is turned away from him.

⁴Assur ei päästa meid, me ei taha sõita hobuste seljas ja me ei ütle enam oma kätetööle: 'Meie jumal!', sest sinu juures leiab ka vaeslaps halastust.'

⁵I will be as the dew unto Israel; he shall blossom as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon.

⁵Mina parandan nende taganemise, ma armastan neid oma heast tahtest, mu viha pöördub nendelt ära.

⁶His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive-tree, and his smell as Lebanon.

⁶Ma olen Iisraelile nagu kaste: tema õitseb nagu lilleke ja juurdub otsekui Liibanon.

⁷They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive [as] the grain, and blossom as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon.

⁸Ephraim [shall say], What have I to do any more with idols? I have answered, and will regard him: I am like a green fir-tree; from me is thy fruit found.

⁸Nad pöörduvad tagasi, elavad minu varju all, kasvatavad vilja ja õitsevad nagu viinapuu. Ta on kuulus nagu Liibanoni vein.

⁹Who is wise, that he may understand these things? prudent, that he may know them? for the ways of Jehovah are right, and the just shall walk in them; but transgressors shall fall therein.

⁹Efraim, mis on sul veel tegemist ebajumalatega? Mina võtan kuulda ja juhin teda. Mina olen nagu haljendav küpress: minult tuleb sinu vili.

¹⁰Kes on tark, mõistku seda; kes on arukas, võtku teatavaks; sest Issanda teed on õiged: õiged käivad nende peal, aga üleastujad komistavad.'
