¹Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.

¹Hoiduge aga, et te oma vagasid tegusid ei tee inimeste ees, et nemad teid vaataksid, muidu ei ole teil palka oma Isalt, kes on taevas!

²When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

²Kui sa nüüd almuseid jagad, siis ära lase enese ees pasunat puhuda, nii nagu silmakirjatsejad teevad sünagoogides ja tänavatel, et inimesed neid ülistaksid. Tõesti, ma ütlen teile, neil on oma palk käes!

³But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

⁴that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

⁵And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

⁵Ja kui te palvetate, siis ärge olge nagu silmakirjatsejad, sest nemad armastavad palvetada sünagoogides ja tänavanurkadel, et olla inimestele nähtavad! Tõesti, ma ütlen teile, neil on oma palk käes!

⁶But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

⁶Aga sina, kui sa palvetad, siis mine oma kambrisse ja lukusta uks, palveta oma Isa poole, kes on varjatud, ja su Isa, kes näeb varjatutki, tasub sulle!

⁷And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

⁷Palvetades ärge lobisege nii nagu paganad, sest nemad arvavad, et neid võetakse kuulda nende sõnaohtruse tõttu.

⁸Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

⁸Ärge siis saage nende sarnaseks, sest teie Isa teab, mida teile vaja läheb, enne kui te teda palute!

⁹After this manner therefore pray ye. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

⁹Teie palvetage siis nõnda: Meie Isa, kes sa oled taevas! Pühitsetud olgu sinu nimi!

¹⁰Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.

¹⁰Sinu riik tulgu, sinu tahtmine sündigu nagu taevas, nõnda ka maa peal!

¹¹Give us this day our daily bread.

¹¹Meie igapäevast leiba anna meile tänapäev!

¹²And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

¹²Ja anna meile andeks meie võlad, nagu meiegi andeks anname oma võlglastele!

¹³And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil [one.]

¹³Ja ära saada meid kiusatusse, vaid päästa meid ära kurjast! [Sest sinu päralt on riik ja vägi ja au igavesti. Aamen.]

¹⁴For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

¹⁴Sest kui te annate inimestele andeks nende eksimused, siis annab ka teie taevane Isa teile andeks,

¹⁵But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

¹⁵kui te aga ei anna inimestele andeks, siis ei anna ka teie Isa teie eksimusi andeks.

¹⁶Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen of men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

¹⁶Kui te aga paastute, siis ärge olge kurvanäolised nagu silmakirjatsejad, sest nemad teevad oma palge näotuks, et näidata inimestele oma paastumist. Tõesti, ma ütlen teile, neil on oma palk käes!

¹⁷But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;

¹⁷Aga sina, kui sa oled paastumas, siis võia oma pead ja pese oma nägu,

¹⁸that thou be not seen of men to fast, but of thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall recompense thee.

¹⁸et su paastumine ei oleks näha inimestele, vaid su Isale, kes on varjatud, ja sinu Isa, kes näeb varjatutki, tasub sulle!

¹⁹Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal:

¹⁹Ärge koguge endile aardeid maa peale, kus koi ja rooste neid rikuvad ja kuhu vargad sisse murravad ja varastavad!

²⁰but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

²⁰Koguge endile aardeid taevasse, kus koi ega rooste neid ei riku ja kuhu vargad sisse ei murra ega varasta!

²¹for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also.

²¹Sest kus su aare on, seal on ka su süda.

²²The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

²²Silm on ihu lamp. Kui su silm on selge, siis on kogu su ihu valgust täis.

²³But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness!

²³Kui su silm on aga vigane, on kogu su ihu pimedust täis. Kui nüüd valgus sinu sees on pime, kui suur on siis pimedus?

²⁴No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

²⁴Keegi ei saa teenida kahte isandat, ikka on nii, et ta vihkab üht ja armastab teist või et ta pooldab üht ja põlgab teist. Teie ei saa teenida nii Jumalat kui mammonat.

²⁵Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment?

²⁵Seepärast ma ütlen teile: Ärge muretsege oma hinge pärast, mida süüa, ega oma ihu pärast, millega riietuda! Eks hing ole enam kui toidus ja ihu enam kui rõivas?

²⁶Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they?

²⁶Pange tähele taeva linde: nad ei külva ega lõika ega kogu aitadesse, ning teie taevane Isa toidab neid. Eks teie ole palju enam väärt kui nemad?

²⁷And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life?

²⁷Aga kes teie seast suudab muretsemisega oma elule ühe küünragi juurde lisada?

²⁸And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

²⁸Ja rõivastuse pärast, mis te muretsete? Pange tähele lilli väljal, kuidas nad kasvavad: ei näe nad vaeva ega ketra,

²⁹yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

²⁹aga ma ütlen teile, et isegi Saalomon kogu oma hiilguses ei olnud nõnda ehitud nagu igaüks neist.

³⁰But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, [shall he] not much more [clothe] you, O ye of little faith?

³⁰Kui aga Jumal nõnda rüütab väljal rohtu, mis täna on ja homme visatakse ahju, eks siis veelgi enam teid, te nõdrausulised!

³¹Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

³¹Ärge siis hakake muretsema, öeldes: 'Mis me sööme?' või 'Mis me joome?' või 'Millega me riietume?'

³²For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

³²Sest kõike seda taotlevad paganad. Teie taevane Isa teab ju, et te seda kõike vajate.

³³But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

³³Aga otsige esmalt Jumala riiki ja tema õigust, siis seda kõike antakse teile pealegi!

³⁴Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

³⁴Ärge siis hakake muretsema homse pärast, sest küll homne päev muretseb ise enese eest! Igale päevale piisab oma vaevast.
