¹And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert?

¹Les Ziphiens allèrent auprès de Saül à Guibea, et dirent: David n'est-il pas caché sur la colline de Hakila, en face du désert?

¹ויבאו הזפים אל שאול הגבעתה לאמר הלוא דוד מסתתר בגבעת החכילה על פני הישימן׃

²Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

²Saül se leva et descendit au désert de Ziph, avec trois mille hommes de l'élite d'Israël, pour chercher David dans le désert de Ziph.

²ויקם שאול וירד אל מדבר זיף ואתו שלשת אלפים איש בחורי ישראל לבקש את דוד במדבר זיף׃

³And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

³Il campa sur la colline de Hakila, en face du désert, près du chemin. David était dans le désert; et s'étant aperçu que Saül marchait à sa poursuite au désert,

³ויחן שאול בגבעת החכילה אשר על פני הישימן על הדרך ודוד ישב במדבר וירא כי בא שאול אחריו המדברה׃

⁴David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come of a certainty.

⁴il envoya des espions, et apprit avec certitude que Saül était arrivé.

⁴וישלח דוד מרגלים וידע כי בא שאול אל נכון׃

⁵And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had encamped; and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay within the place of the wagons, and the people were encamped round about him.

⁵Alors David se leva et vint au lieu où Saül était campé, et il vit la place où couchait Saül, avec Abner, fils de Ner, chef de son armée. Saül couchait au milieu du camp, et le peuple campait autour de lui.

⁵ויקם דוד ויבא אל המקום אשר חנה שם שאול וירא דוד את המקום אשר שכב שם שאול ואבנר בן נר שר צבאו ושאול שכב במעגל והעם חנים סביבתו׃

⁶Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.

⁶David prit la parole, et s'adressant à Achimélec, Héthien, et à Abischaï, fils de Tseruja et frère de Joab, il dit: Qui veut descendre avec moi dans le camp vers Saül? Et Abischaï répondit: Moi, je descendrai avec toi.

⁶ויען דוד ויאמר אל אחימלך החתי ואל אבישי בן צרויה אחי יואב לאמר מי ירד אתי אל שאול אל המחנה ויאמר אבישי אני ארד עמך׃

⁷So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the place of the wagons, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Abner and the people lay round about him.

⁷David et Abischaï allèrent de nuit vers le peuple. Et voici, Saül était couché et dormait au milieu du camp, et sa lance était fixée en terre à son chevet. Abner et le peuple étaient couchés autour de lui.

⁷ויבא דוד ואבישי אל העם לילה והנה שאול שכב ישן במעגל וחניתו מעוכה בארץ מראשתו ואבנר והעם שכבים סביבתו׃

⁸Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered up thine enemy into thy hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not smite him the second time.

⁸Abischaï dit à David: Dieu livre aujourd'hui ton ennemi entre tes mains; laisse-moi, je te prie, le frapper de ma lance et le clouer en terre d'un seul coup, pour que je n'aie pas à y revenir.

⁸ויאמר אבישי אל דוד סגר אלהים היום את אויבך בידך ועתה אכנו נא בחנית ובארץ פעם אחת ולא אשנה לו׃

⁹And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not; for who can put forth his hand against Jehovah's anointed, and be guiltless?

⁹Mais David dit à Abischaï: Ne le détruis pas! car qui pourrait impunément porter la main sur l'oint de l'Eternel?

⁹ויאמר דוד אל אבישי אל תשחיתהו כי מי שלח ידו במשיח יהוה ונקה׃

¹⁰And David said, As Jehovah liveth, Jehovah will smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall go down into battle and perish.

¹⁰Et David dit: L'Eternel est vivant! c'est à l'Eternel seul à le frapper, soit que son jour vienne et qu'il meure, soit qu'il descende sur un champ de bataille et qu'il y périsse.

¹⁰ויאמר דוד חי יהוה כי אם יהוה יגפנו או יומו יבוא ומת או במלחמה ירד ונספה׃

¹¹Jehovah forbid that I should put forth my hand against Jehovah's anointed: but now take, I pray thee, the spear that is at his head, and the cruse of water, and let us go.

¹¹Loin de moi, par l'Eternel! de porter la main sur l'oint de l'Eternel! Prends seulement la lance qui est à son chevet, avec la cruche d'eau, et allons-nous-en.

¹¹חלילה לי מיהוה משלח ידי במשיח יהוה ועתה קח נא את החנית אשר מראשתו ואת צפחת המים ונלכה לנו׃

¹²So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's head; and they gat them away: and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither did any awake; for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from Jehovah was fallen upon them.

¹²David prit donc la lance et la cruche d'eau qui étaient au chevet de Saül; et ils s'en allèrent. Personne ne les vit ni ne s'aperçut de rien, et personne ne se réveilla, car ils dormaient tous d'un profond sommeil dans lequel l'Eternel les avait plongés.

¹²ויקח דוד את החנית ואת צפחת המים מראשתי שאול וילכו להם ואין ראה ואין יודע ואין מקיץ כי כלם ישנים כי תרדמת יהוה נפלה עליהם׃

¹³Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mountain afar off; a great space being between them;

¹³David passa de l'autre côté, et s'arrêta au loin sur le sommet de la montagne, à une grande distance du camp.

¹³ויעבר דוד העבר ויעמד על ראש ההר מרחק רב המקום ביניהם׃

¹⁴and David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?

¹⁴Et il cria au peuple et à Abner, fils de Ner: Ne répondras-tu pas, Abner? Abner répondit: Qui es-tu, toi qui pousses des cris vers le roi?

¹⁴ויקרא דוד אל העם ואל אבנר בן נר לאמר הלוא תענה אבנר ויען אבנר ויאמר מי אתה קראת אל המלך׃

¹⁵And David said to Abner, Art not thou a [valiant] man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept watch over thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.

¹⁵Et David dit à Abner: N'es-tu pas un homme? et qui est ton pareil en Israël? Pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas gardé le roi, ton maître? Car quelqu'un du peuple est venu pour tuer le roi, ton maître.

¹⁵ויאמר דוד אל אבנר הלוא איש אתה ומי כמוך בישראל ולמה לא שמרת אל אדניך המלך כי בא אחד העם להשחית את המלך אדניך׃

¹⁶This thing is not good that thou hast done. As Jehovah liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept watch over your lord, Jehovah's anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his head.

¹⁶Ce que tu as fait là n'est pas bien. L'Eternel est vivant! vous méritez la mort, pour n'avoir pas veillé sur votre maître, sur l'oint de l'Eternel. Regarde maintenant où sont la lance du roi et la cruche d'eau, qui étaient à son chevet!

¹⁶לא טוב הדבר הזה אשר עשית חי יהוה כי בני מות אתם אשר לא שמרתם על אדניכם על משיח יהוה ועתה ראה אי חנית המלך ואת צפחת המים אשר מראשתו׃

¹⁷And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king.

¹⁷Saül reconnut la voix de David, et dit: Est-ce bien ta voix, mon fils David? Et David répondit: C'est ma voix, ô roi, mon seigneur!

¹⁷ויכר שאול את קול דוד ויאמר הקולך זה בני דוד ויאמר דוד קולי אדני המלך׃

¹⁸And he said, Wherefore doth my lord pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in my hand?

¹⁸Et il dit: Pourquoi mon seigneur poursuit-il son serviteur? Qu'ai-je fait, et de quoi suis-je coupable?

¹⁸ויאמר למה זה אדני רדף אחרי עבדו כי מה עשיתי ומה בידי רעה׃

¹⁹Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it be Jehovah that hath stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if it be the children of men, cursed be they before Jehovah: for they have driven me out this day that I should not cleave unto the inheritance of Jehovah, saying, Go, serve other gods.

¹⁹Que le roi, mon seigneur, daigne maintenant écouter les paroles de son serviteur: si c'est l'Eternel qui t'excite contre moi, qu'il agrée le parfum d'une offrande; mais si ce sont des hommes, qu'ils soient maudits devant l'Eternel, puisqu'ils me chassent aujourd'hui pour me détacher de l'héritage de l'Eternel, et qu'ils me disent: Va servir des dieux étrangers!

¹⁹ועתה ישמע נא אדני המלך את דברי עבדו אם יהוה הסיתך בי ירח מנחה ואם בני האדם ארורים הם לפני יהוה כי גרשוני היום מהסתפח בנחלת יהוה לאמר לך עבד אלהים אחרים׃

²⁰Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of Jehovah: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.

²⁰Oh! que mon sang ne tombe pas en terre loin de la face de l'Eternel! Car le roi d'Israël s'est mis en marche pour chercher une puce, comme on chasserait une perdrix dans les montagnes.

²⁰ועתה אל יפל דמי ארצה מנגד פני יהוה כי יצא מלך ישראל לבקש את פרעש אחד כאשר ירדף הקרא בהרים׃

²¹Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David; for I will no more do thee harm, because my life was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.

²¹Saül dit: J'ai péché; reviens, mon fils David, car je ne te ferai plus de mal, puisqu'en ce jour ma vie a été précieuse à tes yeux. J'ai agi comme un insensé, et j'ai fait une grande faute.

²¹ויאמר שאול חטאתי שוב בני דוד כי לא ארע לך עוד תחת אשר יקרה נפשי בעיניך היום הזה הנה הסכלתי ואשגה הרבה מאד׃

²²And David answered and said, Behold the spear, O king! let then one of the young men come over and fetch it.

²²David répondit: Voici la lance du roi; que l'un de tes gens vienne la prendre.

²²ויען דוד ויאמר הנה החנית המלך ויעבר אחד מהנערים ויקחה׃

²³And Jehovah will render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; forasmuch as Jehovah delivered thee into my hand to-day, and I would not put forth my hand against Jehovah's anointed.

²³L'Eternel rendra à chacun selon sa justice et sa fidélité; car l'Eternel t'avait livré aujourd'hui entre mes mains, et je n'ai pas voulu porter la main sur l'oint de l'Eternel.

²³ויהוה ישיב לאיש את צדקתו ואת אמנתו אשר נתנך יהוה היום ביד ולא אביתי לשלח ידי במשיח יהוה׃

²⁴And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of Jehovah, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.

²⁴Et comme aujourd'hui ta vie a été d'un grand prix à mes yeux, ainsi ma vie sera d'un grand prix aux yeux de l'Eternel et il me délivrera de toute angoisse.

²⁴והנה כאשר גדלה נפשך היום הזה בעיני כן תגדל נפשי בעיני יהוה ויצלני מכל צרה׃

²⁵Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do mightily, and shalt surely prevail. So David went his way, and Saul returned to his place.

²⁵Saül dit à David: Sois béni, mon fils David! tu réussiras dans tes entreprises. David continua son chemin, et Saül retourna chez lui.

²⁵ויאמר שאול אל דוד ברוך אתה בני דוד גם עשה תעשה וגם יכל תוכל וילך דוד לדרכו ושאול שב למקומו׃
