¹And when it came to pass that were parted from them and had set sail, we came with a straight course unto Cos, and the next day unto Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara:

¹Nous nous embarquâmes, après nous être séparés d'eux, et nous allâmes directement à Cos, le lendemain à Rhodes, et de là à Patara.

¹ויהי כאשר נפרדנו מהם ונרד באניה ונבוא דרך ישרה אל קוס וממחרת אל רודוס ומשם אל פטרה׃

²and having found a ship crossing over unto Phoenicia, we went aboard, and set sail.

²Et ayant trouvé un navire qui faisait la traversée vers la Phénicie, nous montâmes et partîmes.

²שם מצאנו אניה עברת אל פינוקיא ונרד בה ונעבר׃

³And when we had come in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left hand, we sailed unto Syria, and landed at Tyre; for there the ship was to unlade her burden.

³Quand nous fûmes en vue de l'île de Chypre, nous la laissâmes à gauche, poursuivant notre route du côté de la Syrie, et nous abordâmes à Tyr, où le bâtiment devait décharger sa cargaison.

³ונרא את פני קפרוס ונעזבנה לשמאל ונעבר אל סוריא ונגיע אל צור כי שמה יוציאו את מעמסת האניה׃

⁴And having found the disciples, we tarried there seven days: and these said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not set foot in Jerusalem.

⁴Nous trouvâmes les disciples, et nous restâmes là sept jours. Les disciples, poussés par l'Esprit, disaient à Paul de ne pas monter à Jérusalem.

⁴ונמצא את התלמידים ונשב שם שבעת ימים והם אמרו אל פולוס על פי הרוח לבלתי עלות ירושלים׃

⁵And when it came to pass that we had accomplished the days, we departed and went on our journey; and they all, with wives and children, brought us on our way till we were out of the city: and kneeling down on the beach, we prayed, and bade each other farewell;

⁵Mais, lorsque nous fûmes au terme des sept jours, nous nous acheminâmes pour partir, et tous nous accompagnèrent avec leurs femmes et leurs enfants jusque hors de la ville. Nous nous mîmes à genoux sur le rivage, et nous priâmes.

⁵ויהי אחרי מלאת לנו הימים האלה ונצא ללכת לדרכנו וילוו אתנו כלם עם נשיהם ועם טפם עד מחוץ לעיר ונכרע על ברכינו על חוף הים ונתפלל׃

⁶and we went on board the ship, but they returned home again.

⁶Puis, ayant pris congé les uns des autres, nous montâmes sur le navire, et ils retournèrent chez eux.

⁶ונברך איש את רעהו ונעל אל האניה והמה שבו איש לביתו׃

⁷And when we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais; and we saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

⁷Achevant notre navigation, nous allâmes de Tyr à Ptolémaïs, où nous saluâmes les frères, et passâmes un jour avec eux.

⁷ואנחנו כלינו את דרך הים ונרד מצור אל עכו ונשאל לשלום האחים ונשב אתם יום אחד׃

⁸And on the morrow we departed, and came unto Caesarea: and entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we abode with him.

⁸Nous partîmes le lendemain, et nous arrivâmes à Césarée. Etant entrés dans la maison de Philippe l'évangéliste, qui était l'un des sept, nous logeâmes chez lui.

⁸וממחרת נסענו פולוס ואשר אתו ונבא אל קסרין ונלך אל בית פילפוס המבשר אשר הוא אחד מן השבעה ונשב עמו׃

⁹Now this man had four virgin daughters, who prophesied.

⁹Il avait quatre filles vierges qui prophétisaient.

⁹ולו היו ארבע בנות בתולות מתנבאות׃

¹⁰And as we tarried there some days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.

¹⁰Comme nous étions là depuis plusieurs jours, un prophète, nommé Agabus, descendit de Judée,

¹⁰ויהי בהיותנו שם ימים רבים וירד נביא אחד מיהודה ושמו אגבוס׃

¹¹And coming to us, and taking Paul's girdle, he bound his own feet and hands, and said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

¹¹et vint nous trouver. Il prit la ceinture de Paul, se lia les pieds et les mains, et dit: Voici ce que déclare le Saint-Esprit: L'homme à qui appartient cette ceinture, les Juifs le lieront de la même manière à Jérusalem, et le livreront entre les mains des païens.

¹¹ויבא אצלנו ויקח את אזור פולוס ויאסר בו את ידיו ואת רגליו ויאמר כה אמר רוח הקדש ככה יאסרו היהודים בירושלים את האיש אשר לו האזור הזה ויסגירהו בידי הגוים׃

¹²And when we heard these things, both we and they of that place besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.

¹²Quand nous entendîmes cela, nous et ceux de l'endroit, nous priâmes Paul de ne pas monter à Jérusalem.

¹²ויהי כאשר שמענו את זאת ונבקש ממנו אנחנו ואנשי המקום אשר לא יעלה ירושלים׃

¹³Then Paul answered, What do ye, weeping and breaking my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹³Alors il répondit: Que faites-vous, en pleurant et en me brisant le coeur? Je suis prêt, non seulement à être lié, mais encore à mourir à Jérusalem pour le nom du Seigneur Jésus.

¹³ויען פולוס ויאמר מה לכם אשר תבכו ותשברו לבבי כי נכון אנכי לא לבד להאסר כי גם למות בירושלים על שם ישוע האדון׃

¹⁴And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

¹⁴Comme il ne se laissait pas persuader, nous n'insistâmes pas, et nous dîmes: Que la volonté du Seigneur se fasse!

¹⁴ולא אבה שמע ונרף ממנו לאמר רצון יהוה יעשה׃

¹⁵And after these days we took up our baggage and went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁵Après ces jours-là, nous fîmes nos préparatifs, et nous montâmes à Jérusalem.

¹⁵ואחרי הימים האלה נשאנו את כלינו ונעל ירושלים׃

¹⁶And there went with us also [certain] of the disciples from Caesarea, bringing [with them] one Mnason of Cyprus, an early disciple, with whom we should lodge.

¹⁶Quelques disciples de Césarée vinrent aussi avec nous, et nous conduisirent chez un nommé Mnason, de l'île de Chypre, ancien disciple, chez qui nous devions loger.

¹⁶וילכו אתנו גם תלמידים מקסרין ויביאו אתנו ללון בבית איש כתי ושמו מנסון והוא תלמיד ישן׃

¹⁷And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

¹⁷Lorsque nous arrivâmes à Jérusalem, les frères nous reçurent avec joie.

¹⁷ויהי כבאנו ירושלים ויקבלו אתנו האחים בשמחה׃

¹⁸And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.

¹⁸Le lendemain, Paul se rendit avec nous chez Jacques, et tous les anciens s'y réunirent.

¹⁸וממחרת היום נכנס פולוס עמנו אל יעקב ויבאו שמה כל הזקנים׃

¹⁹And when he had saluted them, he rehearsed one by one the things which God had wrought among the Gentiles through his ministry.

¹⁹Après les avoir salués, il raconta en détail ce que Dieu avait fait au milieu des païens par son ministère.

¹⁹וישאלם לשלום ויספר אחת לאחת את אשר עשה האלהים לגוים בשרותו׃

²⁰And they, when they heard it, glorified God; and they said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of them that have believed; and they are all zealous for the law:

²⁰Quand ils l'eurent entendu, ils glorifièrent Dieu. Puis ils lui dirent: Tu vois, frère, combien de milliers de Juifs ont cru, et tous sont zélés pour la loi.

²⁰וישמעו ויהללו את האלהים ויאמרו אליו הנך ראה אחינו כמה רבבות יהודים באו להאמין וכלם מקנאים לתורה׃

²¹and they have been informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children neither to walk after the customs.

²¹Or, ils ont appris que tu enseignes à tous les Juifs qui sont parmi les païens à renoncer à Moïse, leur disant de ne pas circoncire les enfants et de ne pas se conformer aux coutumes.

²¹והם שמעו עליך שמועה כי תלמד את כל היהודים אשר בקרב הגוים לסור ממשה באמרך כי אין עליהם למול את בניהם וללכת בחקות התורה׃

²²What is it therefore? They will certainly hear that thou art come.

²²Que faire donc? Sans aucun doute la multitude se rassemblera, car on saura que tu es venu.

²²ועתה מה לעשות הנה האסף יאסף המון העם כי ישמעו כי באת׃

²³Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men that have a vow on them;

²³C'est pourquoi fais ce que nous allons te dire. Il y a parmi nous quatre hommes qui ont fait un voeu;

²³לכן עשה זאת אפוא אשר נאמר אליך׃

²⁴these take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges for them, that they may shave their heads: and all shall know that there is no truth in the things whereof they have been informed concerning thee; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, keeping the law.

²⁴prends-les avec toi, purifie-toi avec eux, et pourvois à leur dépense, afin qu'ils se rasent la tête. Et ainsi tous sauront que ce qu'ils ont entendu dire sur ton compte est faux, mais que toi aussi tu te conduis en observateur de la loi.

²⁴הנה יש אתנו ארבעה אנשים אשר נדר עליהם אתם קח לך והטהר אתם ושלם ההוצאות בעדם למען אשר יגלחו את ראשם וידעו כלם כי שמועת שוא שמעו עליך וכי אתה בעצמך מתהלך בחקות התורה׃

²⁵But as touching the Gentiles that have believed, we wrote, giving judgment that they should keep themselves from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from fornication.

²⁵A l'égard des païens qui ont cru, nous avons décidé et nous leur avons écrit qu'ils eussent à s'abstenir des viandes sacrifiées aux idoles, du sang, des animaux étouffés, et de l'impudicité.

²⁵ועל דבר המאמינים בגוים כתבנו וגזרנו אשר לא ישמרו דבר מאלה רק להשמר מזבחי אלילים ומן הדם ומבשר הנחנק ומן הזנות׃

²⁶Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them went into the temple, declaring the fulfilment of the days of purification, until the offering was offered for every one of them.

²⁶Alors Paul prit ces hommes, se purifia, et entra le lendemain dans le temple avec eux, pour annoncer à quel jour la purification serait accomplie et l'offrande présentée pour chacun d'eux.

²⁶ויקח פולוס את האנשים ויטהר אתם וממחרת בא אל המקדש ויגד כי מלאו ימי טהרתם עד כי הקרב קרבן כל אחד מהם׃

²⁷And when the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the multitude and laid hands on him,

²⁷Sur la fin des sept jours, les Juifs d'Asie, ayant vu Paul dans le temple, soulevèrent toute la foule, et mirent la main sur lui,

²⁷ויהי כאשר קרבו שבעת הימים לכלות והיהודים אשר מאסיא ראו אתו במקדש ויעוררו את כל ההמון וישלחו בו את ידיהם׃

²⁸crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man that teacheth all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place; and moreover he brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath defiled this holy place.

²⁸en criant: Hommes Israélites, au secours! Voici l'homme qui prêche partout et à tout le monde contre le peuple, contre la loi et contre ce lieu; il a même introduit des Grecs dans le temple, et a profané ce saint lieu.

²⁸ויצעקו לאמר אנשי ישראל עזרו זה הוא האיש המלמד את כל אדם אשר בכל הארץ סרה על העם הזה ועל התורה ועל המקום הזה וגם הביא אל המקדש אנשים יונים ויחלל את המקום הקדוש הזה׃

²⁹For they had before seen with him in the city Trophimus the Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.

²⁹Car ils avaient vu auparavant Trophime d'Ephèse avec lui dans la ville, et ils croyaient que Paul l'avait fait entrer dans le temple.

²⁹כי היו ראים את טרופימוס האפסי בעיר אתו ויחשבו כי פולוס הביא אתו אל המקדש׃

³⁰And all the city was moved, and the people ran together; and they laid hold on Paul, and dragged him out of the temple: and straightway the doors were shut.

³⁰Toute la ville fut émue, et le peuple accourut de toutes parts. Ils se saisirent de Paul, et le traînèrent hors du temple, dont les portes furent aussitôt fermées.

³⁰ותהם כל העיר וירץ העם ויקבץ ויאחזו את פולוס וימשכהו אל מחוץ למקדש ופתאם סגרו הדלתות׃

³¹And as they were seeking to kill him, tidings came up to the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in confusion.

³¹Comme ils cherchaient à le tuer, le bruit vint au tribun de la cohorte que tout Jérusalem était en confusion.

³¹והמה מבקשים להמיתו והשמועה באה אל שר האלף של הגדוד כי כל ירושלים נבוכה׃

³²And forthwith he took soldiers and centurions, and ran down upon them: and they, when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, left off beating Paul.

³²A l'instant il prit des soldats et des centeniers, et courut à eux. Voyant le tribun et les soldats, ils cessèrent de frapper Paul.

³²וימהר ויקח אתו אנשי צבא ושרי מאות וירץ אליהם ויהי כראותם את שר האלף ואת אנשי הצבא ויחדלו מהכות את פולוס׃

³³Then the chief captain came near, and laid hold on him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and inquired who he was, and what he had done.

³³Alors le tribun s'approcha, se saisit de lui, et le fit lier de deux chaînes. Puis il demanda qui il était, et ce qu'il avait fait.

³³ויגש שר האלף ויחזק בו ויצו לאסרו בנחשתים וישאל מי הוא זה ומה עשה׃

³⁴And some shouted one thing, some another, among the crowd: and when he could not know the certainty for the uproar, he commanded him to be brought into the castle.

³⁴Mais dans la foule les uns criaient d'une manière, les autres d'une autre; ne pouvant donc rien apprendre de certain, à cause du tumulte, il ordonna de le mener dans la forteresse.

³⁴ויענו מן העם אלה בכה ואלה בכה ולא יכל לדעת מאומה אל נכון מרב השאון ויצו להוליכו אל המצד׃

³⁵And when he came upon the stairs, so it was that he was borne of the soldiers for the violence of the crowd;

³⁵Lorsque Paul fut sur les degrés, il dut être porté par les soldats, à cause de la violence de la foule;

³⁵ויהי כבואו עד המעלות וישאהו אנשי הצבא מפני חמת העם׃

³⁶for the multitude of the people followed after, crying out, Away with him.

³⁶car la multitude du peuple suivait, en criant: Fais-le mourir!

³⁶כי עם רב הלך אחריו והם צעקים ואמרים הסר אתו׃

³⁷And as Paul was about to be brought into the castle, he saith unto the chief captain, May I say something unto thee? And he said, Dost thou know Greek?

³⁷Au moment d'être introduit dans la forteresse, Paul dit au tribun: M'est-il permis de te dire quelque chose? Le tribun répondit: Tu sais le grec?

³⁷וכאשר הקריב פולוס להאסף אל המצד אמר אל שר האלף התניח לי לדבר אליך דבר ויאמר הידעת יונית׃

³⁸Art thou not then the Egyptian, who before these days stirred up to sedition and led out into the wilderness the four thousand men of the Assassins?

³⁸Tu n'es donc pas cet Egyptien qui s'est révolté dernièrement, et qui a emmené dans le désert quatre mille brigands?

³⁸האם אינך המצרי אשר לפני הימים האלה העיר מרד והוציא המדברה ארבעת אלפים אנשי דמים׃

³⁹But Paul said, I am a Jew, of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and I beseech thee, give me leave to speak unto the people.

³⁹Je suis Juif, reprit Paul, de Tarse en Cilicie, citoyen d'une ville qui n'est pas sans importance. Permets-moi, je te prie, de parler au peuple.

³⁹ויאמר פולוס איש יהודי אנכי מטרסוס בן עיר קיליקיא אשר איננה בלי שם ועתה אשאלה מאתך הניחה לי לדבר אל העם׃

⁴⁰And when he had given him leave, Paul, standing on the stairs, beckoned with the hand unto the people; and when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew language, saying,

⁴⁰Le tribun le lui ayant permis, Paul, debout sur les degrés, fit signe de la main au peuple. Un profond silence s'établit, et Paul, parlant en langue hébraïque, dit:

⁴⁰וינח לו ויעמד פולוס על המעלות הניף ידו אל העם ותהי דממה רבה וידבר בלשון עברית ויאמר׃
