¹Thus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, a basket of summer fruit.

¹Le Seigneur, l'Eternel, m'envoya cette vision. Voici, c'était une corbeille de fruits.

¹כה הראני אדני יהוה והנה כלוב קיץ׃

²And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said Jehovah unto me, The end is come upon my people Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

²Il dit: Que vois-tu, Amos? Je répondis: Une corbeille de fruits. Et l'Eternel me dit: La fin est venue pour mon peuple d'Israël; Je ne lui pardonnerai plus.

²ויאמר מה אתה ראה עמוס ואמר כלוב קיץ ויאמר יהוה אלי בא הקץ אל עמי ישראל לא אוסיף עוד עבור לו׃

³And the songs of the temple shall be wailings in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah: the dead bodies shall be many: in every place shall they cast them forth with silence.

³En ce jour-là, les chants du palais seront des gémissements, Dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel; On jettera partout en silence une multitude de cadavres.

³והילילו שירות היכל ביום ההוא נאם אדני יהוה רב הפגר בכל מקום השליך הס׃

⁴Hear this, O ye that would swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail,

⁴Ecoutez ceci, vous qui dévorez l'indigent, Et qui ruinez les malheureux du pays!

⁴שמעו זאת השאפים אביון ולשבית ענוי ארץ׃

⁵saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit;

⁵Vous dites: Quand la nouvelle lune sera-t-elle passée, Afin que nous vendions du blé? Quand finira le sabbat, afin que nous ouvrions les greniers? Nous diminuerons l'épha, nous augmenterons le prix, Nous falsifierons les balances pour tromper;

⁵לאמר מתי יעבר החדש ונשבירה שבר והשבת ונפתחה בר להקטין איפה ולהגדיל שקל ולעות מאזני מרמה׃

⁶that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the refuse of the wheat?

⁶Puis nous achèterons les misérables pour de l'argent, Et le pauvre pour une paire de souliers, Et nous vendrons la criblure du froment.

⁶לקנות בכסף דלים ואביון בעבור נעלים ומפל בר נשביר׃

⁷Jehovah hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

⁷L'Eternel l'a juré par la gloire de Jacob: Je n'oublierai jamais aucune de leurs oeuvres.

⁷נשבע יהוה בגאון יעקב אם אשכח לנצח כל מעשיהם׃

⁸Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? yea, it shall rise up wholly like the River; and it shall be troubled and sink again, like the River of Egypt.

⁸Le pays, à cause d'elles, ne sera-t-il pas ébranlé, Et tous ses habitants ne seront-ils pas dans le deuil? Le pays montera tout entier comme le fleuve, Il se soulèvera et s'affaissera comme le fleuve d'Egypte.

⁸העל זאת לא תרגז הארץ ואבל כל יושב בה ועלתה כאר כלה ונגרשה ונשקה כיאור מצרים׃

⁹And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.

⁹En ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel, Je ferai coucher le soleil à midi, Et j'obscurcirai la terre en plein jour;

⁹והיה ביום ההוא נאם אדני יהוה והבאתי השמש בצהרים והחשכתי לארץ ביום אור׃

¹⁰And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

¹⁰Je changerai vos fêtes en deuil, Et tous vos chants en lamentations, Je couvrirai de sacs tous les reins, Et je rendrai chauves toutes les têtes; Je mettrai le pays dans le deuil comme pour un fils unique, Et sa fin sera comme un jour d'amertume.

¹⁰והפכתי חגיכם לאבל וכל שיריכם לקינה והעליתי על כל מתנים שק ועל כל ראש קרחה ושמתיה כאבל יחיד ואחריתה כיום מר׃

¹¹Behold, the days come, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Jehovah.

¹¹Voici, les jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel, Où j'enverrai la famine dans le pays, Non pas la disette du pain et la soif de l'eau, Mais la faim et la soif d'entendre les paroles de l'Eternel.

¹¹הנה ימים באים נאם אדני יהוה והשלחתי רעב בארץ לא רעב ללחם ולא צמא למים כי אם לשמע את דברי יהוה׃

¹²And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of Jehovah, and shall not find it.

¹²Ils seront alors errants d'une mer à l'autre, Du septentrion à l'orient, Ils iront çà et là pour chercher la parole de l'Eternel, Et ils ne la trouveront pas.

¹²ונעו מים עד ים ומצפון ועד מזרח ישוטטו לבקש את דבר יהוה ולא ימצאו׃

¹³In that day shall the fair virgins and the young men faint for thirst.

¹³En ce jour, les belles jeunes filles et les jeunes hommes mourront de soif.

¹³ביום ההוא תתעלפנה הבתולת היפות והבחורים בצמא׃

¹⁴They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, As thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, As the way of Beer-sheba liveth; they shall fall, and never rise up again.

¹⁴Ils jurent par le péché de Samarie, Et ils disent: Vive ton Dieu, Dan! Vive la voie de Beer-Schéba! Mais ils tomberont, et ne se relèveront plus.

¹⁴הנשבעים באשמת שמרון ואמרו חי אלהיך דן וחי דרך באר שבע ונפלו ולא יקומו עוד׃
